Cannot remove a folder on my c drive

I can't delete a folder on my c drive, even though I am the administrator and I checked my permissions and have full control on the c drive.  the folder is a subfolder of a folder called backup.  the folder is a backup date and contains a copy of the entire c drive is a big chunk of memory.  I have only 11 GB of memory left, and whenever I try to delete this file, it seems to take more space. When I checked the windows backup program, it is said there is no backup to restore, so I'm assuming that this file has not been created by windows.

Hey Carvelrita,

  • Cannot remove a folder on my desktop without name - please help!

Hi - I accidentally renamed a folder using the 'Alt + 255"character invisible.  I forgot I was renaming a real folder on my desktop and not a shortcut to a folder.  In fact, what I actually renamed it as "Alt + 255 (x 7)", i.e. of 7 invisible characters.

In any case, I want to delete the folder now.  It is empty because I moved everything out of it.  But I can not remove it- either by dragging it to the trash, or by right-clicking and then clicking 'delete', or by opening the desktop folder in Windows Explorer and remove in there.  It will not just delete, no matter how I try.

By browsing on the internet tells me I should be able to remove it by using the command line, but I can't figure out how.

Please help me because these small things really annoy me!  My system is Windows Vista Home Premium.

    Try this:

    1. click on Start > all programs > Accessories > command prompt to open a command prompt window.

    2. type cd desktop and press enter .

3 copy this command into the Windows Clipboard:

    for /d %d in (*) do rmdir /s "%d".

    4. right click on the command prompt window, click Paste and press Enter. The command will display the name of each folder on the desktop and invite you to press Y (remove the folder) or N (do not remove).  The file you're looking for may appear as an empty name.

  • Cannot remove a folder. Error: Required the approval of the system changes to the folder and the files

I recently encountered a problem with a file of unknown origin and content. When I try to delete files / folder I get a message that I need permission from the system to change the files or folders. I am the only user on my laptop and have always had administrator rights to make the changes necessary and desired.

    Hello

1 are there any changes or updates made on the computer?

    2. What is the full and exact error message?

    Method 1:

I suggest you run Microsoft Safety Scanner for any malware or spyware infection and check if it helps.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: the data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means there is a risk of data loss.

    Method 2:

See article for appropriating the file and then delete it.

    Hello

As you said that when you try to transfer any file on USB all files become a shortcut files. And as you've tried to format the USB & scanned the computer but nothing happened.

First, I advise you to create a new notebook file with the same name as the pragmatic file with the .txt extension. That your problem has been resolved on the next thread proposed by Dave 0 replied on January 26, 2011:

  • Cannot remove a folder regardless if it's bootdrive or external. Windows Explorer fails and sends the contents of the error to Microsoft.

This occurs when you try to delete a folder

I would say that we have a look at your management context menus. There might be something integrated Explorer causing crash.

    1. download the utility Shell here:
    http://www.Nirsoft.net/utils/shexview_setup.exe

    2. Once opened, the utility looks for the components. After the scan, sort results by 'Type' and then expand the "Company name" field, so that you can read all
    3. the idea here would be to disable all THE items in the category 'Context Menu' that are NOT part the category of company name "Microsoft Corporation". Basically, if a context menu, and it doesn't say Microsoft for the extreme right, do a right-click and disable the entry

    4. once all the non Microsoft context menus are disabled, click on the button 'Save' at the top
    5. then restart your computer.

  • Cannot remove the ghost folder. Error message: there is no such mailbox

When I configure Thunderbird to connect to my Alpine Webmail, I had to rearrange my folders. Cannot remove a folder titled "mail" because according to TB "there is no such mailbox" but still shows on the tab my folders. I read through the previous discussions and have tried to unsubscribe the ghost folder, but that did not work or the other. I have a Mac OSX if this affects what it is. Please let me know if you have any suggestions. Thank you.

Hello world. I solved the problem... somehow. By removing the account of Treasury Board and put in place again, TB has been able to sync with the files that were on Alpine. The ghost folder still presented (despite not existing not not on the Alpine site), but by changing the directory to the IMAP server of "mail" to "mailbox" the ghost folder disappeared. I found myself with records who have been named oddly (most likely due to the change of the name of directory) so when I changed the IMAP server directory to "mail" it reset my files with the way they were, with the exception of the ghost folder, that was no longer there. I'm not entirely sure why it worked, but in case someone else has a similar problem, I recommend to give it a try.

Thank you all for your comments and help.

Original title: cannot transfer files to one external hard drive to another

An error message is displayed: "error copying file or folder." Impossible to copy "file/folder name. "The destination folder is the same as the source folder.

    Hi Peter,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

From your problem description, I understand that you are unable to transfer files from an external drive on another drive. Please let me know if this isn't the problem that you are experiencing.

Before troubleshooting, I have little information on the issue.

    1. Do you receive any error or display message?
    2. Did you recent hardware or modifications to the software on the computer before this problem?

Try the methods and then check after each method:

Method 1: Transfer files from a drive to the location on the desktop or a temporary folder and then try to transfer them to the destination disk.

Note: make sure the free space on the disk in the destination drive.

    Method 2: Run the Fixit:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/mats/windows_file_and_folder_diag/

Method 3: Disconnect your player safely, and restart the computer. And then try to transfer the files.

If the problem persists, post your reply with results and questions above. We are happy to help you further in the advanced troubleshooting steps!

    It will be useful.

  • How can I remove the old Windows folder to a different drive?

Original title: Old files Windows, Program Files, etc.

I tried to use before Disk Cleanup and it worked, and I haven't run a complete installation.

I'm having a problem now, this time, and I did a full install.  Disk Cleanup doesn't show any options to remove an old Windows as it did before.

How can I remove the old Windows folder to a different drive?  I also try to remove the Program Files folder, as well as with an implementation since.

It is showing an error message "I need to be in the Administrators group ~", and that TrustedInstaller is owner of the present.

I have a question that "TrustedInstaller" has full authority on the file system, and 'Administrators' has limited access.

I noticed that there are other three to make a total of four names of users who have all or nearly full access to the file system.

Can it be fixed... it's pretty annoying to see this continue..., strictly through Windows Update.

I look forward to your reply.

For more information on the above commands, run these commands from a command prompt window.

  • How to remove a folder from program files in the C drive?

I tried to remove CA my computer for several days. I just discovered how to manually remove programs. However, will not remove the file CA in my program files. I give permission, and then he said please try again. I don't use this program because of the large amount of questions and he won't let me download an anti-virus up-to-date program. Help, please.

You must uninstall the programs start / Control Panel / programs and features - and then select the program you want to remove, right-click on it and click on uninstall or delete - otherwise the pieces of the program stay in various places throughout the operating system and in the register - it cause you problems later and taking space without good reason.

If you really want to remove this folder to appropriate it.

To resolve this problem with the record of CA, appropriating the folder (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for the folders and files that can change permissions.  You can change now switched to read-only (even if the main folder indicates that they are always read-only - you can access yourself as the owner).  You can now delete the files and folders.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html... If ownership doesn't work, someone has placed a deny access to all user somewhere safe - you have to find that entry and delete it and then you will be able to delete the files and folders.

Good luck and I hope this helps!

  • Cannot remove folder AppData in the closed user - administrator account is not enough - owner is "HomeUsers' - OS Win7 Home Premium

Because it is not possible in Home Premium Win7 for access to the control administrator privileges, I can't understand how to erase all files from the folder of the deleted user.  The user, Jake, had somehow "HomeUsers" as long as the owner of the folder for some reason any.  I checked in another location and Jake folder has been shared with the residential group which is listed as the owner?

Can I download a utility that will allow me to have the equivalent of control of folders and groups in professional Win7 and Optimum of operation systems.  All I want to do is remove AppData folder hidden from Jake and all of its subfolders.  I tried to change the owner of HomeUsers to the administrator which I already activated.  But the administrator does not sufficient privileges to delete the folder and subfolders, one at a time or all at once. Or from the bottom up (first of all the latest files and folders).

From what I see in Google ads there are a lot of hit us this security risk... The folder has been shared and accessible for a reason even if we used Page sharing to enable sharing and direct access to the records is used to disable sharing. That's why I pulled off the system Jake account.  We need assistance.  It's not a glitch in nice.  Something had access to our system and that access to create a more powerful than the administrator user.

Try to delete the file when logged in as an administrator in Mode safe account. If failure repeated, follow these steps:

    1. Use F8 during startup to start the machine in Repair Mode.
    2. Open a command prompt.
    3. Type this command:
      RD /s /q C:\Users\Jake

Deleting a folder of this profile is permanent. You will not be able to restore it from the Recycle Bin.

My flash player works well, but lately, I can't create a folder: it simply indicates: cannot create the folder?

    =====================================
The dialog box you received usually indicates that there
are too many files copied to the root directory of the
    flash drive.

The solution is to remove one or more pictures and
create new empty folders in their place... then move
all the photos in the files... problem solved.
