Cannot remove Windows XP to update/install Win7 or 8

I need to remove the installed version of Windows XP to install an upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.  I thought Installer Firefox solves, but it's not. Can anyone help?

I need to remove the installed version of Windows XP to install an upgrade to Windows 7 or 8.

No, you don't need to do.

I thought Installer Firefox solves, but it's not.

Firefox has no connection whatsoever with the installation of any version of Windows.

Do you know if Windows 7 or Windows 8 will work even on your computer?  How do you know?

Have you already purchased Windows 7?  Have you already purchased Windows 8?

If you would like more information, please proceed as follows:

  • Open system information (start > run > msinfo32.exe > OK)
  • Click in the system information window and select all (CTRL + A) and copy (CTRL + C)
  • Paste (CTRL + V) the data in your response here

recently, I installed windows xp. The system has automatically downloaded and installed from many windows xp security updates, which slowed the system. also, how open internet browser like IE8/Google chrome/Firefox, the system crashes, but the system speeds up after a while. I always find AVG antivirus free edition is updated at the start of the system upward during which the problem above. can you suggest how to fix it?

Chances are, AVG is you slow down because it downloads the latest anti-virus definition files and will then scan your computer. You can set how often you want these updates. Personally I have mine to search every day and will take the hit on his speed to get the latest definition files. Depending on how your system is configured, it will also look at the updates for other programs / Windows as well and download.

    Hi KinuBug,

In my case, I finally solved my problem by going to the Download Center on Microsoft and I install manually.

Here are the steps that I took... which I think should work:

Try this 1st to see if it helps, and it should:

    If necessary :

Try this - Panel - Windows Updates - on every update that will not be installed - click on the important updates
or the update itself - double click a view more information (or click top then discovers on the right)

Those who will take you to a page where you can download the update.

Or go here and the KBxxxxxx number to download it.

Download Center - mount the KBxxxxxx.

    Microsoft Download Center
    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/en/default.aspx

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - click on - RUN AS ADMIN

Then you can right click on the update in the updates Windows and HIDE.

If you get an error Installer install this version:

  • Cannot download Windows 8.1 update due to unrecognized BIOS version

    Hello

I have a SVD13217PAB - aka - Sony Duo 13... I'm trying to download the 8.1 windows update of windows store but I am facing the following problems in chronological order:

    (1) after the median point in the update download long journey, the computer gave a message saying that my BIOS needs to be updated, however, I've updated the BIOS last week.

TAP 2) down the download and went to Sony support link associated with the 'windows 8.1' object and learned that I have to take care of some driver updates and save the system which gave me a good preparation that should have done earlier.

    (3) after having tried several times to download the update, however, never get past the point of reference of 40%. whenever I'm trying to do, the limit becomes weaker until I reached 15%.

    (4) to the sides of this problem, I face the same penalty that so many people reported you earlier on the wireless reception and how deterioration is the signal when you slightly move the access point.

the question is how to have the update installed and if I'm lucky, the vaio duo wirless 13 problem solving.

    Thank you

Well in this case, you can download it today at least since the United Kingdom of the site:

    http://www.Sony.co.UK/support/en/hub/COMP_VAIO

But as the material is the same everywhere in the world except maybe 3G / 4G LTE in reality it makes no difference which site download you the updates.

You will find everything you need on the uk so site.

  • Cannot remove Windows XP Dual Boot with Windows 7 (partition logic-bootable) (main System Partition)

When I put XP and 7 dual boot I them created on a drive with 2 partitions.  I don't have Windows XP and need space for windows 7 so I followed the instructions to remove it.  I used the Windows 7 disc in repair mode via Diskpart to delete the XP partition and (after release) change the master boot record to Windows 7 using Bootrec/fixmbr and /fixboot.  I then tried to activate Windows 7 new in Diskpart but received the error message:

The VIRTUAL DISK SERVICE ERROR - the specified partition is invalid for this operation.

It's because I had configured Windows 7 in an extended as a logical disk partition.

I had to restore from the image I had taken and copy backup my data files.  However this left me with the following configuration:

    Primary partition

C: Windows XP - local disk, system, Page File Active, primary

    Extended partition

G: Windows 7 - Local, Boot, Crash Dump, logical disk

D: programs - Local, logical disk

Files - Local, logical disk E:

Photos - Local, logical disk F:

I have EaseUS Partition Master which apparently allows me to convert drive G of elementary logic.  However he would not only because it is noted as boot drive.

How to convert G to a logical disk in a primary partition so that I can activate it?

Start Windows 7, and format the partition ON THAT XP is installed. (This assumes that XP is on the 1st partition)

Since the Windows 7 bootloader (BCD store was on the XP partition) you will need for this restore on Windows 7

    partition.

Restart your computer with the Windows 7 DVD in the CD/DVD drive. Wait for Windows Start (this may take a while if you)

have a computer to multiboot), change the language. Time/keyboard if necessary, otherwise click "next". In her "install now".

prompt (do not choose the install now option) instead choose the option "Repair your computer" located at the bottom left

At the DOS prompt, type the following three commands:

    Bootrec.exe /fixmbr

Bootrec.exe /fixboot (may return a not found message "Eliment")

    Bootrec.exe /RebuildBcd

You should now see the number of Windows Installations that have been identified
For a tripple boot computer, after that XP has been removed you will see the number 2 (the 2 other Windows 7/Vista

    facilities)

If you see a prompt "Facility add to the startup list?", enter Y (Yes) for each installation.

Remove the Windows 7 DVD. Close the command prompt window, and then click "Restart" to reboot the PC.

Reboot and XP should have disappeared.

    METHOD No. 3
If the XP partition has been installed has been severely damaged or deleted.

Restart your computer with the Windows 7 DVD in the CD/DVD drive. Wait for Windows Start (this may take a while if you)

  • Windows Update guard same installation updates on update install Win7

    Hello

I've recently updated my Windows Vista to Windows 7 RC running on my DELL XPS M1530 laptop. My current version of McAfee would not work if I installed the free beta version of Panda Antivirus on it.

The problem with my laptop is that whenever I stop, I get a message of 28 updates being installed - and it happens every time I stop. Is it possible that the updates are not able to install? If so, how can I fix it.

    See you soon
    Noémie

If you click on start "Orb" you should see "Windows Update". Click on it, and when the window opens, there should be a list of the available updates...

Click the line that says "important xx updates available" and watch to see who is available.

In my own experience, up-to-date as partain your (driver chipset, driver video and sound card drivers) may already be later. If you you can "uncheck and continue with other updates.

  • Cannot start Windows after trying to install the Vista SP2

I just tried to install Vista SP2 and now whenever I try to turn on the cpu it gives me a blue screen and restarts. It does allow me to start in SafeMode either. In addition, it seems to be impossible to find my restore points. I was able to stop the screen using the F8 menu and it gives me this error on the blue screen

    STOP: 0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0X81C223BB, 0X803998F4, 0X803995F0)

For some reason, when I go to the cmd prompt to advanced troubleshooting guide, I can do, he says that I am the X and not the C drive, if that has something to do with my restore points does not.

I tried to get the menu of the restoration on C manually through C:\windows\system32\restore\, but nothing was there.

Any help would be appreciated. I will not lose rather all my data in a reformat.

    Thank you

A (another) Norton or McAfee application has already been installed on this machine (for example, a free trial version which is preinstalled when you bought it)?

Reformatting a disk deletes all the data on the disk.

To reformat the hard drive of your computer and reinstall Windows, restart your computer using the Windows installation disc (this is commonly known as booting from the installation disc). During the installation process, you can repartition and reformat your hard disk and then reinstall Windows. The process will erase your files and programs, so remember to make backups of your data files and the program before you start. For more information, search Windows Help and Support "installation and reinstalling Windows."

  • Cannot remove Windows Media Player 12 library

I want to remove the entire library in Windows Media Player 12 (running Windows 7) so I can start over with a new database. With previous versions of WMP, it was simple - I get the Media Player folder in the Local environment and remove all files (leaving the files). Now when I try to do it I get the message "cannot complete this action because the file is open in Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service. Close the file and try again. "How can I do this?

    Hi red high Mahoney,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Answers forums.

Make sure that the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service network service or Windows Media Connect does not work as follows:

    1. click on start and then click on run
    2. in the run box, type services.msc
    3. in Services, locate the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service or Windows Media Connect (WMC) and then verify that the status column is started
    4. double-click on the service and click on the Stop button, change the type to disabled startup
    5 restart the computer.

To reactivate the function repeat the above process, by clicking on the Start button instead of the stop and change the type of startup to automatic.

    Now try to delete libraries.
