  • Cannot take possession of the hard drive Partition

I have a partition on my hard drive to store media. OS is XP home SP3. For some reason, I didn't have full access to certain folders on the partition so I tried to change the permissions for the entire score. I don't remember exactly what I did, but the main thing is that I have more access to the root of the partition. (I can always access all files using the file Explorer). I tried to appropriate the partition via the safe mode and the administrator account, but it won't allow me to take this way. I also tried to merge with the c drive partition using partition magic, but I had an error half way through the process. I suppose that the permissions would not happen. I read on the internet that "you can always take ownership' and I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

    Can someone help me?

Manually apply permissions to a file or folder, follow these steps. Manually apply permissions, it's something that only advanced users should do because you could end up with unexpected results.

    1. right click on the file or folder and then clickProperties.

    2. click on the tab Security and then clickchange.

    3. If you want to set permissions for a user who is not listed undergroup or user names, click Add, type everyone in the name of the user or group, clickOK, select permissions and then click OK.

    Original title: windows xp installation

I had to change hard drives, I went to load my copy of microsoft windows xp and it tells me it cannot format the HDD how many times can we use the xp disc? Or whats wrong?

    Hi Joshua6495,

What is the full error message that you receive?

See the article below, which deals with a similar question

During installation, you are unable to format a Partition with a file Allocation Table Format

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/301340/

You can use the Windows XP installation disc as many times as you want on the same computer

Note: All programs on the computer and the data will be lost if you format the hard drive. It is recommended to make a backup of your data before performing any Installation of Windows.

  • Satellite L305D S5895: Win 7 cannot find the HARD drive or cannot format the HARD drive on a clean install

I have laptop Satellite L305D S5895 of the customer. It was delivered to me by the customer who tried to install Windows XP Pro, Vista and none would install.
He said he tried all the CD that he had finally dropped on it and delivered it to me installation.

When I got the score have been removed, so I tried to install Win 7 and when I do a custom install, I get an error indicating that the hard drive can not be formatted on disk 0 or it will give an error that no hard drives have been found.

I have reset the bios default and no matter what I do, it won't format or find the hard drive. I was going to upgrade the bios, but the only way I found to upgrade the bios is once windows is installed.

Everyone has ideas about this laptop so I can get a system installed. I checked the bios and there is no parameters for a sata, raid or IDE disk drive, so it seems that this version cannot be changed.

Thanks for anyone who can help you.

    Rick

    Hello

First of all it is an American notebook series.
    [Satellite L305D-S5895 | http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=DL&os=&category=&moid=2144776& rpn = PSLC0U & modelFilter = L305D-S5895 & SelCategorie = 3 & selFamily = 1073768663]

The laptop supports a processor AMD and ATI chipset.
This means that the drivers SATA is part of the ATI graphics card driver.

You must include the first SATA driver in order to install the Windows operating system.
You could add the SATA driver for the Windows disk using software like nLite / vLite

    Welcome them

  • Re: My laptop does not start, it cannot detect the hard drive

I'm having the same problem but a bit different. I noticed that the support said to replace the hard drive and that's what I did with a disc Windows 8.1 and I took a step after test and see if my hard drive is not really usable. I put it in another computer that is also running Windows 8.1. It worked but my origianl computer still does not work, it says always "no drive detected". What the heck!

think at this point, the best thing to do for you what we call. It is perhaps that the computer is a little less than a year and is still under warranty. Whatever the case, a technical support professional phone can certainly discuss your options with you.

What you can do, is to use the following link to create yourself a file number, then call and it can help to expedite the appeal process:

Step 1. Open the link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter the product number or select Auto detection
Step 3. Scroll up to "still need help? Fill out the form to select your contact options.
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: contact HP options - click Get phone number

File number and phone number are displayed.

  • The installation of XP Pro cannot find the hard drive

The machine is running XP Pro 32-bit, and I am "upgrading" to 64-bit to work with AutoCAD.  When I boot on the 64-bit Setup installation CD can not find the hard drive and the demolitions.  The drive is already formatted to NTFS.

You try to install on a SATA drive or your disks are on an add-in controller card and the Windows XP Installer x 64 doesn't have the required driver for the controller so it can't detect the drive.

    You have three options:

1 - Use the F6 method to provide the installer for Windows XP x 64 mass storage drivers.  Drivers MUST be provided on a floppy disk, the Setup program will not accept the drivers from other media sources.

2 - enter your CD of Windows XP x 64 drivers.  Note you will find reference to SP3 slipstreaming your Windows CD which you can install Windows on a SATA drive, but please note that Windows XP x 64 doesn't have a SP3, SP2 is the latest service pack for Windows XP x 64.

3 (for the integrated SATA controllers) go into the BIOS and put the controller in IDE, most motherboard with SATA controllers mode on Board have an option to do this.  When mode IDE Windows XP Setup will see the drive and you will be able to install Windows.  Once Windows is installed, you will be able to install the SATA drivers from the installation of Windows XP operational.  You install the SATA drivers before changing the SATA mode controller in the BIOS, or when the Windows boot up upward a BSOD with a 0x7b error.

  • WRT610N trouble: cannot share the HARD drive

    Hello!

The problem is that I can't share HARD drive connected to my WRT610 via USB. The system continues to say "can not find the network address. I use XP with Service Pack 3. I tried all the instructions of the different forums (this statement too - http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?pid=10&login=1&app=search&vw=1&articleid=17419&donelr=1). I tried 2 different HDD-WD My passport Essential 500 GB and 2 TB of Seagate. Without success.

HARD drive sharing is one of the main reasons why I chose this router. If it doesn't work, I have to buy a new one.

I'll be happy to hear any suggestions at all.

    Thanks in advance.

Reset of the router for 1 minute, power cycle the router and check again. Make sure you remove the HARD drive before resetting the router...

  • I want to reinstall Windows Vista, but have 2 partitions on the hard drive partition which should I use?

Which partition should I use to re - install Windows Vista? A partition is much smaller then the other.

    Hello

you don't say how you are trying to reinstall vista

If you use a microsoft vista dvd you would normally select a CUSTOM installation that gives you the opportunity to see what partitiions are available, what size are they and what is currently installed on them etc.

It is then to you to delete the existing partition where vista is already installed and reinstall on the same partition or where you want to

We cannot see how your hard disk is configured

We can only give you general information on this subject

read the tutorial below well especially the steps below:

Now it's time to choose the installation type. Update or custom are the choice, but as you can see, in this case, Custom is the only option. There are two points to note. The first is under Customs where it says you can use this option to change the disks and partitions. This is true to a point. You can create and delete partitions and resize a partition using the command 'Extend '. The second thing to note is that if you want to 'Upgrade '. you need start the installation from Windows inside.

Once determined the type of installation, it's time to decide where to install Vista. As you can see on the screenshot options in this scenario are limited. There is a 20 GB hard drive and it is all unallocated space. If your intention is to return the entire disk in Vista with none of the additional partitions for other uses, all you have to do is click on disk 0, and then click the [next] button. The installation will continue.

    etc.

    etc.

  • Satellite L300 - Chaning the HARD drive partitions

I'm not a computer expert, so answers in clear English + please.

I own a Satellite L300. Recently, the hard disk was doing fairly complete. I save all my files in "My Documents" etc... I had a look under my computer and the volume C: (called 'Vista') has only 5 GB of free space. However, there is also another volume E: (called 'Data'), and this volume is almost empty, apart from a folder called HDDRecovery.

I would like to start using this free space. I tried to reduce the size of the E: volume and the volume C:, but - although I can reduce volume E: via Start-computer-Manage - I can't increase the volume C:. In any case, I could only reduce the E: volume by half.

I created the recovery DVD, so can I remove this volume E: or not? And if I do, I'll be able to extend the C: volume to fill my hard drive?

If not, can I just start to save files in the E: volume it will affect what is already there?

What is the best course of action? What I would really like is just a very large volume, so that my files are in one simple place.

    Any help is appreciated, thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi André,.

First I put t understand why reduce you the E: volume or use only one partition. In my opinion every computer must have at least two partitions. On the second partition, I always save my documents, videos, photos, music, etc.. It is cool and can save a lot of time because if I reinstall Windows using the recovery disk, all the files it will not be deleted, only the first partition.
As you can see, the second partition is a useful feature!

But if you have the Toshiba Recovery disk you can do what you want. If a problem occurs, you can restore the settings from the factory with this disc in a few minutes.

By the way: here's an interesting article on the Windows disk management:

  • Is it possible to remove the recovery on the HARD drive partition?

I had a virus on my laptop, so I gave a "specialist".

When I got it back it turned out, it didn't work properly - another specialist said that the recovery disc has been eliminated - is it possible? or is it just hidden?

And if I have no more HARD drive recovery, what do I know?
Where can I buy ad recovery to recover my system?

Please, help me, cause I'm an ignoramus total that computers are concerned...:)

    Powerless Kate:)

    Hi, pewna.studentka.

Yes, it ' s possible to delete the recovery hard drive and very easy to do in partitioning, formatting and etc. Once I had an experience to remove it, but in my hp laptop. I recommend you do the following:

    1. contact the Toshiba service authorized in your country or order https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx
    2. find (buy) a copy of Windows, install and drivers downloaded from the Toshiba driver page.

  • M6-1105dx cannot detect the hard drive

my machine is m6-1105dx with Windows 7. It cannot start with an error "boot device not found, please install an operating system on your hard drive. The error number is 3F0 and he recalled by pressing F2 for system diagnostics.

In diagnostic tests, memory test works fine, but the hard disk check gives error "SMART Check: NOT INSTALLED; "DST short: DO NOT INSTALLED."

I tried with two different hard disks and there were mistakes. Anyone know what is happening?

Assuming that hard drives are actually showing good on another PC, then the SATA cable may be bad, does not have the connections, or the contoller is bad.  I would like to start by refuse as those first several elements - HDD, SATA cable, connections, etc are good.  If it is the controller, it is not easy to repair on a laptop.  Probably needs a new motherboard.  I used something similar to THIS to make sure that the disc is good or not.

  • Portege M400 - Windows XP cannot find the hard drive

    Hello

Ive got a Portege M400 who im looking to get a new one, I never had the Tablet XP CD so im trying to install using an XP Pro disk, but whenever I get no hard drive can be detected and I tried another disc of publishing house also.

Ive looked for SCSI / SATA drivers but can only find RAID drivers which are not good for me.

I hope someone can help me

    Thank you

    Hi wacksonjackson,

Why these RAID drivers are not good for you? Windows XP requires RAID drivers if your laptop is RAID controller and there is no other choice to install XP from a normal Windows XP disc. Then download the RAID drivers on the official website of Toshiba. Either you create a new installation with the RAID drivers disc using nLite freeware tool or you copy the drivers on an external USB FDD and load them during the installation of XP.

Also check similar topics here in the forum. You will find hundreds of similar topics on SATA and RAID drivers.

  • Satellite Pro U300: Cannot see the HARD drive during the installation of XP

Due to the restrictions of the network must downgrade the operating system on a new satellite Pro U300. I am unable to run the XP + sp2 cd as it says there is no hard drive installed on the machine. I guess it's because I need 3 scsi drivers or third-party raid.

Does anyone have these or know a place where I can get my hands on them? Or am I completely off the mark that you have another solution?

    Hello

You need the Intel Matrix Storage Management utility for the management of your local storage, including the RAID support.

On the European driver Toshiba page I found Robson tea for Vista package which includes the Intel Matrix Storage Management utility.

The same can be downloaded from the Intel page for the XP operating system.

I found this on the page of Intel:
    http://Downloadcenter.Intel.com/Filter_Results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=2101&OS FullName = Windows * + XP + Professional & lang = eng & strOSs = 44 & submit = Go %21

Something similar is described here in this thread.

  • Cannot defragment the hard drive AND cannot start the computer in safe mode

I have been unable to defragment my hard drive because it tells me that chkdsk /f planned.  I tried manually works in command mode nothing works.  I was advised to try to start up in safe mode, but when I do that all I get is a screen of command lines, and my computer freezes there.  What I'm doing wrong and what I can do differently?

If you try to defragment a volume and see a message like this:

Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (c :))
    Please run Chkdsk /f.

This means that the volume (disk) that you want to defragment was marked 'dirty' XP.

The question was preceded by a loss of power, aborted reboot or abnormal termination?  (this includes the plug pulling, buttons power, remove the battery, etc.)

The afflicted system has a working CD/DVD (internal or external) drive?

You have a genuine XP installation CD bootable, which is the same Service as your installed Service Pack (this is not the same as any recovery CD provided with your system)?

You can check the status of your bit of impurity from a command prompt window.

To do this, click Start, run and enter in the box:

    cmd

Click OK to open a command prompt window.

For example, to query the bit of impurity on drive C, type:

    fsutil dirty query C:

    The sample output:
    Volume c is dirty
    Volume C: is dirty

Is the volume of your sale or it is not dirty?

The only way to disable the on a volume's dirty bit is to run chkdsk with error correction.

You can click on start, run and enter in the box:

    Chkdsk /r

Click OK and answer Yes to schedule the chkdsk next time XP restarts, restart your system and keep your fingers crossed that the chkdsk /r clears the dirty bit (you may need to run once or twice).

If who disobeys, then you will need to start in the XP Recovery Console and run the chkdsk /r from there.
