Cannot restore backup successful - 0x8007007A Vista Home Premium error code

I use Vista Home Premium that came with my laptop. I had a nightmare with my Dell Inspiron for the last two months. I finally gave up and decided to do a clean install, after completing a successful using the Vista Backup Backup Assistant. Now, here's the problem. I reinstalled Vista, and made sure I had all the Windows updates available. Now I want to restore my data from my removable hard drive files.

I click on the Control Panel, system and maintenance, restore the backup files, Advanced Restore and select my removable hard drive (which is cool). Then, I get the following error message:

"There was an unexpected error. The data area passed to a system call is too small. (0x8007007A).

I tried to copy the backup file on my computer and going through the same process, but I get the same result.

I'm at my wits end with this, I can see all the files on my portable hard drive so I know something is there, it's just Vista backup restore will not do its job.

Help, please!

First, disable any security software you have running on your system.

Then connect the external drive and go to start / Control Panel / Adminiistrative tools / computer Managmernet / Disk Managment and change the drive the drive letter of bacckup (I don't know why, but I saw an answer where this atually worked so it's worth a try).

If this does not work, try a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.  If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem.   Follow the procedures described in the article.  Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall.  Once remember to put Vista in normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work.  More than finding the cause, I want to eliminate anything that might interfere with the process.  Try the restore in clean mode to see if the tht works.  Don't forget to return the system to normal when done regardless of the result.

There is not much on this error code and absolutely nothing of a value - only valid suggestion posted above.

Here is some general information that can help (although unrelated to this particular error)) but it may be useful to solve the problem as a whole.

Here is an article on the restore procedure:http://www.vista4beginners.com/How-to-restore-files to make sure you do this right.  It's a selective restore of a full or selective backup (not a full restore from a full backup) - but since you did a full backup, it matches your process more closely than would a full restore.

This is a GREAT article on the backup and restore processes in Vista http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/magazine/2007.09.backup.aspx , but he won't go into detail about the restoration process - considering almost as easy, of course.  But it teaches you a lot about what is possible and how to do it.  It also focuses primarily on the full backup process, but he did mention the full backup and restore process as well.

Here is an article on the advanced use of restoration (during normal restore does not work):http://www.mayankraichura.com/post/2009/08/06/Avdvanced-Restore-via-Windows-Vista-Backup-and-Restore-Center.aspx.

http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/back-up-and-restore-frequently-asked-questions

I also found the following (but don't know if it of true or not):

1. after the start of "backup and Restore Center."

2. I chose "Advanced Restore"

3. I was did not an administrator password... maybe because my account is an administrator account.

4 choose "files from a backup made on a different computer.

5. in the dialog box indicating "Select the location of the backup to restore", select "hard drive, CD or DVD...". »

6. under the drop-down list box, select your drive/partition and continue

7. If all the backups on your drive, it will show a list of them.

8. in my case, he showed a backup, but in the backup location, it will show "backup location is not available."

9. I was frustrated, but then I somehow just select this backup ("Yes... even if he said that the backup location is not available ' )

10. and you press "next".

11 guess what... no error!

12. a window appeared asking me if I wanted to do a full restore, or I want to select specific folders or files.

13. I selected the folders I wanted to restore and bingo... it their restored smoothly.

14. so that the next time see a mistake, try to continue with him... ;)

I don't know if this will help, but it does not provide much information about the process (when it works).  I hope you find any error or discrepancy in your procedure and it will clear up and allow you to restore.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

    Vista recovery media obtain and/or use the Partition Recovery Vista on your computer to the factory settings .

    There is no Vista free download legal available.

    Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

    Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    In addition, ask them if you have a recovery Partition on your computer/laptop to restore it to factory settings.
    See if a manual provided with the computer or go to the manufacturer's website, email or you can call for information on how to make a recovery.
    Normally, you have to press F10 or F11 at startup to start the recovery process...
    Another way I've seen on some models is press F8 and go to a list of startup options, and launch a recovery of standards of plant with it, by selecting the repair option.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Also ask them if it is possible to do the recovery disk/s for the recovery Partition in case of a system Crash or hard drive failure.

    They will tell you how to do this.

    Every computer manufacturer has their own way of making recovery disk/s.

    Using Windows Update and stand-alone update, I can't install the Update 938371 (which I believe is a sine qua non for SP1) on my Vista Home Premium laptop.

  • Cannot share my printer on VISTA Home Premium

    Hello... I configured a Brother printer as a local printer on my computer VISTA Home Premiun (latest printer drivers) and you want to share with the other computer on the network running Windows XP Professional.

    I tried to turn on the sharing of printers in sharing and discovery in Network Center and sharing.  However, every time that I click on the button apply the function remains off.  The network is private.  Working groups are the same.  Using Norton 360 version 3 as the firewall.  I tried adjusting the parameters of traffic in the Firewall Norton for Windows file sharing get through, no difference.  I uninstalled the Norton 360 using the Norton removal tool and tried with no firewall turned on... no luck.

    Also, I tried to turn on Public folder sharing in the same area.  I get an error dialog that says "incorrect function".

    Help, please.  Research on the web (including the site of Norton) gave no response or things to try.

    Thank you. Just like a book four of the liver in a ladle of pint.

    Yes.  I finally got mine works too.  After uninstalling Norton 360 with the Norton Removal Tool and restart a coupla times.  It still does not work.  Then...  I reinstalled VISTA Home Premium.  It's a horrible work-around because you lose all your customizations (mine are about 7 years), but the installer moved all my programs and desktop in a Windows old folder files, so I'm keeping them.

    I need to reinstall literally everything whole again, but this crazy printer sharing button finally lit.

    Thank you Aaron.  Good luck to you.

  • Cannot obtain replacement disks of Vista Home Premium.

    I have a PC that came with a set of disks in the OS (Vista Home Premium) of the desktop type the Gateway FX. Technical support Gateway wants to load more that a new license cost complete and me have to wait a month to get them. Seeing as how I've already paid for the license, it's completely unfair. Can I get a disk of Microsoft (or anyone), if I have my license key? I understand that I must pay a nominal price for the physical disks.

    Thanks in advance,

    Mikey

    Hello

    If it never came with disk recovery, gateway must provide you with another way to reinstall the operating system.

    If they didn't they break their agreement with Microsoft.

    Here is the information on the bridge to access the recovery Partition on your hard disk to reinstall Vista:

    "Full factory recovery"

    There is no Windows Vista downloads available from Microsoft.

    If the above does not work, you may need to try this instead:

    You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

    Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

    And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

  • Getting the 80070005 error during the backup with windows vista home premium then closes backup

    When I use backup in windows I get errors then backup closes. the errors were 0x800700AA and now 0x80070005. I'm not familiar with what they mean but have tried Fixit without success.

    Hi Brian,.

    This error code means that the file or folder you want to backup does not have the necessary permissions.

    Method 1:

    If you need to make a backup of any file or folder, please ensure that give you all the permissions for that particular file or folder.

    To set the permissions of files, see the procedure below:

    a. right click on the file or folder and then click Properties.

    b. click the Security tab.

    c. under group or user names, click your name to see the permissions you have.

    d. If they don't get permission, click on change and give the full control.

    e. then check if you are able to backup.

    What are the permissions?

    Method 2: Check if you are able to backup by following these steps:

    Try to temporarily disable your anti-virus and malware during execution of the backup. If the backup works fine, then you have to search for updates and firewall settings in the security software.

    Note: Make sure that you enable the antivirus software, other security and firewall after the test programs.

    Method 3:

    Disable UAC during backup control.

    Enable or disable the User Account Control

    Note: Make sure that you enable user account control and the back of the antivirus on the computer after you complete these steps. It is not recommended to disable these settings on the computer. It's just to solve the problem.

    Help, please!

    The problem is the cd 'upgrade '.  It assumes that you have a system on the computer that has not been upgraded to Vista, XP or Windows 2000.   You need a full installation disc.  Vista is old, you might have trouble getting a Vista disc, but you might get lucky and they will send you a disc of Windows 7 If you call your computer support team (if it is a possibility).   Otherwise, install Windows 2000 over there and improve it with your upgrade disc.   It should work.

    I changed the hard drive and knowing full well that I would need to install a new operating system, I bought the windows 7 Home premium full license DVDs. I have installed windows on the hard disk with no real probems but as I tried to activate the product key, but I get the error 0xC004E003 Code.

    I tried to find a way to activate by phone but it does not have this as an option, instead, it gives an option to call Toshiba. The warranty on the laptop was completely outdated, but I noticed that in Control Panel-> system-> system security that the product ID is xxxxx-OEM-xxxxxxx-xxxxx.

    What I have to write off the record that I use is more an OEM version of windows? If so how is this done? I would have thought that the new product key would have replaced the OEM version?
