Cannot save as a movie in Movie Maker 2.1

I have a big wmv file and I'm cutting sections of the file for individual presentations. I integrate the Movie Maker file without problem and seem to be able to cut the part out I want. However, when I save the video file, and then click workstation the progress bar stops at 11% and the remaining time continues to grow. I left it overnight and in the morning time remaining was 4000 minutes. The clip, I'm saving is a little more than 13 minutes of a series of 2 hours.

Thank you

FWIW... just because a video file plays in Windows
Media Player is no guarantee that it will be compatible
with Movie Maker.

It may be interesting to try to import the WMV file in a
conversion of program and convert it to WMV. Seems
redundant, I know... but it will create a new version
the WMV file, which can be more compatible than
the current.

There are many programs that can do conversions...
The following freeware is an example...:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

(the 'direct link' is faster)
(the file you want to download is: > FFSetup260.zip<>
(FWIW... installation..., you can uncheck
('all' boxes on the last screen)

First, you will need to decompress the file or just open the
Drag FFSetup260.exe out of the folder
and drop it on your desktop. To install left click.

Next, after the download and installation of Format
Factory... you can open the program and
left click on the toolbar, the "Option" button and
"Select an output folder to" / apply / OK.
(this is where you find your files after they)
are converted)

Drag and drop your video clips on the main screen...

Select "all to WMV" / OK...

Click on... Beginning... in the toolbar...

That should do it...

Good luck...

I worked on a film for weeks, save that I will. Now, I try to open again to finish, and a box will appear indicating that another user is open on this computer. But it's not. How can I open it?

    Hi slbscb,

    Method 1
I suggest you to start Task Manager and check if moviemk.exe is running. If this is the case, put end to the process and then try to start Windows Movie maker.

  • Windows Movie Maker - savings-older version

HI - my daughter received a project to make a band trailer of the movie using Windows Movie Maker.  We have 6 Version, no problem.  But the school has V2.1.4026.0 with a Spk2 V5.1.

The teacher said that we have to save the project, so it can be read by an earlier version of the software.  I went to the save option under and the "Save as type" gives only the option "Save as Windows Movie maker Project.  I'm sure it's a simple solution, but since this is our first experience with this package I need help.

So, how to save a Version6 project file so it can be read by older Versions of Windows Movie Maker?
    Anyone?

    Hi Harleysfran,

Thank you for using the Microsoft Windows Vista Forums.

Project files more Movie Maker version are not compatible with the lower version of Movie Maker. However, you can publish the project to .avi or .wmv format so that you can play these video files on any computer.

But you cannot change the published video file.

Live Movie Maker. WLMP project files are not
compatible with XP, Movie Maker. So, you will not
be able to continue to edit the project WLMM in

One possibility would be to Save the Live Movie Maker

  • Windows movie maker won't save or burn to a cd

I worked for 3 days, set up a movie with pictures and sound. When I go to save on the computer or save it on a cd, he gives a status bar that never changes to 0% and below it is a counter that indicates the remaining minutes. This counter goes well to the top instead of the bottom. the film that I put in place was about 25 minutes and I left the pc 9 hours and the minute was contrary to 3 600 000 minutes go. It's very confusing because I then dropped. I ended up using a program called dazzle to record video, but is very unstable and guard lock up when setting up a video image. hope someone has an answer for me. I am running win XP

There is a small chance that you may have better results if you
record in DV - AVI format. I will paste the instructions below.

Also, it may be worth trying to go to... Tools / Options / Compatibility
tab and disable ALL filters before attempting to save.

  • Save a movie in Windows Movie Maker

When I try to save a movie in WMM 5.2 I get the message "Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Check the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the backup location is still available and that there is enough free disk space and then are trying again. »

I can still play the files in Media Player, but not in WMM.

There is no version 5.2, so please go back to the help > screen on Movie Maker and read the last line for the current version of Movie Maker.

You are apparently one of the "classic" versions of Movie Maker.  This message indicates that Movie Maker has problems with one or more of your source files.  The solution is to convert all the .wma music files and all the videos to .wmv.  Freemake (freemake.com) has a pair of converters that should work to convert your audio and video files well.

My windows Movie Maker will not save my movie file, error rises and says: Windows Movie Maker is unable to save to the specified location. The error you see usually occurs when we
