Cannot step 3 of 3 for Vista updates

I have a number of Vista updates that will not be installed.  A site to help/support windows was a suggestion that you could install manually by going to the Microsoft Vista download site.  So, I chose the 2 most old and manually, and to install several days ago.  In both cases, an error message came back indicating that the updates were for a 64 bit system.  Later that night I turned off the computer and turned it on the next morning.  I got a message saying Setup updated step 1 of 3-0% complete.  This message has been on the computer for several hours before I did a manual close.  Now, when I reboot, the message says configuration updates step 3 of 3-0% complete.  This message will remain on the computer for about 1 minute, after which the system attempts to restart again.  This process continues indefinitely.  I tried to go in 'safe mode', but the same thing happens.  I do not have a startup disk, so may not exercise this option.  Please help - I'm sure that the solution cannot be that hard.  Also, please tell us if there is a way to avoid this situation in the future.

most of the computers I sold recently are affected - ms Ko 949358 describes this well - using repair CD allows you to rename the folder (files) waiting - but - so far, the problem always resurfaced after 2 or 3 days - repair ms KO suggested in the previous KB 937287 update will not - install version wrong system error - now the good news : change of name by using CD repair can be done repeatedly and will copy/backup all files on an external user - using a full system reinstall after a cold start automatic tracking updates (about 100) will produce a system vista stable basic with no missing updates.

A description of the differences between 32-bit versions of Windows Vista and 64 bit versions of Windows Vista:
         http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/946765

    You have 2 two versions of Internet explore 8 (IE8), 64-bit IE8 and IE8 32 bit. IE8 64-bit is the default value.

It is not a 64-bit version of Flash Player (at least not yet). While IE8 64 bit is your default browser, Flash contentshould open in IE8 32 bit. If you know any page contained Flash (or dependent on one or more ActiveX controls), open an instance of IE8 32 bit to access the page.

IE64-bit is a "level 2" browser Flash and ActiveX controls are supported in browsers 'level 1' (e.g., IE 32 bits). Seelevels of browser support on this somewhat linked page: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc263526.aspx#section2

You should familiarize yourself with this FAQ: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/32-bit-and-64-bit-Windows-frequently-asked-questions

The following is based on a related post from my colleague MVP Don Varnau aboutFlash & IE8 32 bit:

The executable file for IE8 32 bit can be found here:

    C:\Program Files (x 86) \Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

The executable for IE8 64 bit can be found here:

    C:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe

Browse to the appropriate Program Files folder and create a shortcut to this version ofiexplore.exe
    - - -
    Then using IE8 32 bit:

    1. download and save to the desktop, the Flash Player uninstaller
    http://download.Macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/Current/uninstall_flash_player.exe

    2. download and save to the desktop, the Flash Player installer

    - - -
    Then...
Right click on the uninstall program, and then select run as administrator of
    Reset.
Right click on the installer, unzip it and select run as administrator
    Reset.
    - - -
    Then...
Make sure IE8 32-bit is the default open.

When you right-click on the icons of IE in the quick launch area, the Start Menu and the desktop, then click Properties, which is in the target field?

(From a previous post by Peter Csaszar... version)

    Targets should be either:
    IE8 32 bit "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe"
    IE8 64-bit "C:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe"

Change these objectives to be "C:\Program Files (x 86) \Internet ' (including the quotes) and IE8 32 bit should open by default

To create a shortcut to IE8 64 bit for occasional use, navigate to the file iexplore.exe inC:\Program may Explorer\iexplore.exe. Right-click iexplore.exe , and then select send to. Desktop (create shortcut). Rename this shortcut so that you know this is the shortcut for IE8 64 bit.

To make sure IE8 32-bit is the default, try this link http://www.Microsoft.com. When the browser opens lookhelp | About Internet Explorer. If there is no mention of 64-bit, 32-bit is the default value. If you have disabled the Menu bar, you will need to right click on the IE toolbar and put a controlmenu bar to have help available (or simply press ALT to move focus to themenu bar temporarily).

Welcome to the wonderful world of Windows 64-bit!

  • Cannot install Brother HL-2070N for Vista

I can't install Brother HL-2070N for Vista correctly. I went to the Brother Solution Center, downloaded the drivers and installed. However, when I printed, it did not work. Could someone help?

How is it connected to your system (directly, wireless, network,...)?  Don't show the printer upward in the start menu / control panel / printers.  If so, right-click on it and select properies and review each tab for anythiing that seems wrong or could interfere with printing proess.  Go to start / Control Panel / Device Manager and make sure that the driver is working properly.

While I await you response, try the implementation again from scratch to ensure that you don't miss a step along the way.  See the new printer can print a test page.

I await your response and we can go from there.

    Thanks and good luck!

  • Cannot find the display driver for Vista 64 bit for Satellite L300 - 17l

    Hello

I installed now windows 64 vista on my laptop, but I can't find a driver for my display that works in vista 64.
On the Toshiba site, they have just the version of Vista 32.

Maybe someone can help me to find the right one.

    Greetings

    Hello

I discovered that Portege M700 (PPM70E) has the same graphics card and it is supported for Vista 64-bit. Download and try to install the version of the driver 15.2.6.64.1272.

You can find it on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads
Please inform us if everything works well.

BTW: you have created recovery DVDs until you have installed the new version of Vista?

  • Satellite A300D-17Z - cannot install the display driver for Vista

    Hello

There is a big problem with my A300D-17Z.

The laptop has ATI HD3470 Hybrid Crossfire display system. I'm trying to install the driver in Vista Ultimate, but it does not work. The ATI Catalyst control cannot install and ATI driver file is empty. Shows Device Manager still there are two graphics card with «!» I tried so many ways. Install framework 3.5, pilot of the AMD 7 series, last version of the ATI driver, driver of the same other computer brand who says that worked.

Please help me, I had been tormented for nearly 48 hours. PLEASE, I BEG YOU!

    Hello!

Have you tried to install the driver to display on the Toshiba site? You can find it here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

Before you try to install a new display driver, you must remove any old version in Add/Remove programs. Then, restart the laptop and use CCleaner to clean the system. Restart again and then install the new version.

You have the same problem with the factory settings? In the worst case, you must reinstall Windows using Toshiba recovery disc.

    Hello

Microsoft said that your files are corrupt? Well, bad news. I think that you need to reinstall Windows Vista again and then will be updated to SP1

  • Satellite L40 - nothing happens if I install the Atheros WLAN for Vista update

I answered the TEMPRO alert to download this update for my laptop Satellite L40. After you have downloaded and double-clicked as suggested on the SetUp.exe file, after a few seconds of 'small wheel', absolutely nothing happens more.

    Any ideas?

    Hello

Have you tried to download the driver yourself on the Toshiba site? You can check it out here:
    http://EU.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com-online decision-making supported Downloads & => Download drivers

But to be honest the update a driver is not required, or you have problems with your laptop? If you don t have any problems with your WLAN card it s not necessary to update a driver.
For example, I deleted TEMPRO because I don t need. I can download the drivers myself if I have a few questions.

    Welcome them
