Cannot take possession of the two machines after power failure

Greetings...  Recently, I experienced a power failure to my office when I was running two different virtual machines.  After the reboot, I am unable to connect to machines like VMWare tells me "this virutal machine seems to be running."  If I press the button "Take Ownership", he immediantely is back with a dialog box saying "Appropriation of this virtual machine failed."  How to unlock these machines?

Thanks in advance

Jason

Hello

First stop of VMware Workstation, then go and have a look at the folders where are stored the your virtual machines.

It is likely that you will see some .lck .lock files or folders. Which ones you will see (lck or lock) depends on the version of your VMware product.

Delete these files (move them to another folder if you are more comfortable with it), and then return to VMware Workstation.

Reopen the virtual machines and chances are big enough to make them work as they used to be.

Good luck!

  • Cannot take possession of the hard drive Partition

I have a partition on my hard drive to store media. OS is XP home SP3. For some reason, I didn't have full access to certain folders on the partition so I tried to change the permissions for the entire score. I don't remember exactly what I did, but the main thing is that I have more access to the root of the partition. (I can always access all files using the file Explorer). I tried to appropriate the partition via the safe mode and the administrator account, but it won't allow me to take this way. I also tried to merge with the c drive partition using partition magic, but I had an error half way through the process. I suppose that the permissions would not happen. I read on the internet that "you can always take ownership' and I wonder what I'm doing wrong.

    Can someone help me?

Manually apply permissions to a file or folder, follow these steps. Manually apply permissions, it's something that only advanced users should do because you could end up with unexpected results.

    1. right click on the file or folder and then clickProperties.

    2. click on the tab Security and then clickchange.

    3. If you want to set permissions for a user who is not listed undergroup or user names, click Add, type everyone in the name of the user or group, clickOK, select permissions and then click OK.

  • Take possession of the key to register via command line

Is there a way to take ownership of a registry key without having access to the registry? Editing the registry is disabled, I could activate normally using command line, but I don't have permission to change the key. I was wondering if so there is a way to take possession of the key by command line, so I can set the button to activate the registry change.

    Give this extract a whirl:

... If the registry editor has also been disabled, you will not be able to run registry changes to fix the rest of the problems, then you must first activate the command registry editor run.  Even if the registry editor is not broken, these commands are safe to run.

Click Start, run and enter in the box (copy/paste would be safer) the following text:

    Tracking Add HKCU/v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0

Click OK and answer Yes, if you are prompted with a message of crash.

Click Start, run and enter in the box (copy/paste would be safer) the following text:

    Tracking Add HKLM/v DisableRegistryTools /t REG_DWORD /d 0

Click OK and answer Yes, if you are prompted with a message of crash.

    Now try your registry editor.

If you inflict not on purpose to this situation on your system, no doubt there are other things on your system that are also affected... we can fix them then.

Hi theodoor, welcome to the forums.

I am not personally acquainted with the Q180, but I had a quick glance in the simulator of BIOS and I am sure that the service you're looking for is available in the BIOS.

  • UEFI auto turn on after power failure

I bought a desktop computer HP Pavillion PC500-225es (have a holiday home in Spain where the suffix are).

It is running Windows 8.1 equipped a UEFI BIOS.

I want the PC automatically restarts when power is restored after a power failure, but I don't see any option to do this in the UEFI BIOS. Is it normal for a UEFI BIOS? I have had many computers with a BIOS for old style and that I can remember all had the ability to set the auto restart after power fail.

I don't know how a UEFI BIOS integrates with Windows 8.1 but I see no option for this in point 8.1 of Windows either.

    Someone at - it ideas?

In addition, because the PC was bought in Spain, the BIOS is in Spanish. It seems not be anyway to change that in English, my native language. Not a big problem I can get in Spanish and may apply to the Google translate if I have to, but it would be easier if there was an option to switch to English.

I ran the HP Support Assistant, and everything is up-to-date, there is no update to download BIOS.

I guess I'm just stuck with the situation unless HP come with an update of the BIOS to add installation.

Please see the BIOS for the motherboard Jasmine settings the settings you are looking for. Although this document is intended for the 'Jasmine' motherboard and your computer uses the "JasmineR', the settings should be similar if not the same thing.

  • root > \system32/had.dll message after power failure.

After power failure, I got the above message.  I tried to rebuild the CD system following the instructions Microsoft but still can't het PC to start.  Any ideas anyone?

    Thank you

Since you didn't say what were these instructions, we do not know what you were doing!

You need to start the recovery console, run chkdsk r, then /Rebuild. bootcfg The first part can be read here:

    http://www.icompute.info/System_restore_from_xp_cd.htm

You will need to understand how your PC (you neglected to tell us the make, model and model number!) can boot from the CD-ROM. Then, run the Recovery Console. DO NOT ENTER THE INSTALLER! (If you do, you run the risk to wipe your entire disk clean!) Follow the indications of the above page and then stops after having successfully performed chkdsk/r. In other words, don't do the fixmbr part!

Then, for the second part, read here:

    http://www.icompute.info/halldll_error.htm

Restart the PC in the usual way (that is, start with the hard drive) and let us know if you are at the back of buisiness.

  • Cannot depend on the virtual machine after reboot

    Hello world

    Thanks for reading this post.

    My version VM ESXI4.1.0, 348481.

    Here's my problem:

One day my VM was hanged, and I tried to restart.

After the reboot, it can be turn on. And I tried to remove the inventory and to recreate the virtual machine.

However, I can't find the. VMX file in the data store.

So I tried to create a new virtual machine and put the files in this folder, but it can also work.

Please see the capture screen, (http://clip2net.com/s/2aNUG)

Could someone give me guidance and advice how to solve?

    Thank you very much.

According to the latest vmware.log file, you have tried to access one of the files base/flat with a wrong header file (40 GB)! This hopefully not bad data on the virtual disk. In any case, I've recreated the missing files (see attachment), so you should be able to redo the work of the virtual machine. Because the vmware.log file did not help, I've recreated the instant chain according to the timestamps of the delta file.

Please follow it below mentioned steps exactly to avoid problems in case something does not work as expacted:

    • Make sure the flat files as well as files 2 6 delta are still in place (not renamed,...)
    • remove the virtual machine from the inventory of the host (right-click-> "Remove from inventory") ESXi
    • delete the temporary/second .vmx unless there is a special need for it
    • Download the files from the .zip file in the folder of the virtual machine on the data store
    • Click right newly downloaded virtual machine's .vmx file and choose "add to the inventory.
    • create a new snapshot (this is important!)
    • Turn on the virtual machine

If something is not or you have questions, please send back before moving on to the other steps.

If everything works as expected you should consider the 'Delete All' snapshots in snapshot Manager. This will release not only almost 200 GB of disk space, but can also improve the performance of the virtual machine. Because the size of the snapshot, remove snapshots may take some time, probably in hours!)

  • Moving backups Time Machine - the operation cannot take place because the backup item is not editable

I want to change the external hard drive that I use for my time machine backups. I went through the steps listed here:

Time Machine: How to transfer backups from a current backup disk to a new backup drive - Apple Support

It seems to work correctly. I shot TM back and adding the new drive. TM is now backing up files on the drive up, but there is a problem.

For some reason, TM has begun to put backups "freely" for lack of better in the external hard drive, and not in the backups.backupdb folder for a week, then returned to save them in the backups.backupdb > ComputerName > files from backups. So in other words, when you click on the hard drive in the finder, it opens the player and you see a folder named Backups.backupdb and then a bunch of mixed in which files are backups time machine named 2016-01-24-XXXXXX, etc.. When you go to the folder Backups.backupdb, there's a more random "loose" time machine backup file 2016-01-23-XXXXXX, and then another folder with the name of computers and in the folder are all TM backups except loose ones I mentioned earlier.

It seems that TM is working properly now, but I don't know why he put the files from the first days outside the backup folder. However, when I do drag, I get the error:

The operation cannot be completed because backup items is not editable

I want to just put all the files in the right folder so that I can A) keep my disk organized and (B) ensure what TM can find everything correctly should I have to go back.

No idea what is happening and how to fix it?

Although the documentation Apple says you can copy Time Machine backups in the Finder, it is very slow and sometimes does not.

This technique works only if the volume that you copy to the same size or larger that that you are copying to.

First of all, please open the Time Machine preference pane and click the Select Disk... button. You may be able to unlock the settings first, by clicking on the padlock icon in the lower left corner of the window. Log in as administrator.

Remove the volume you want to copy in the list of backup destinations. Then turn off Time Machine.

Launch disk utility, open the built-in Help and search for the term 'Double '. Follow the instructions. All existing data on the destination volume will be deleted. That shouldn't be a problem, because you do not want to mix non-sauvegarde and backup data on the same drive anyway.

If the volume you are copying has been encrypted by Time Machine, you must first unlock it. Click the release button in the toolbar of the disk utility window.

Turn Time Machine back on and select the new volume as a backup destination. Alternatively, you can continue to use the old volume, if you wish. Both will be alternated when both are available.

ATTENTION: If you copy the volume is corrupted, as shown by the ERD or first aid in disk utility, while corruption is copied to the new drive. Do not copy data from a damaged on a faulty disk volume. Put aside the reader and do not use until you don't know that you no longer need the data. Then securely erase it and bring it to a recycling center. Do the same if the restore operation fails with "disk errors."

  • Cannot start the virtual machine after you create snapshop

I found a strange behaviour. I have a Windows 2008 guest that I just copied in my new box ESXi. I am trying to create a snapshot before upgrading the guest to 2012 Windows operating system. The virtual machine has currently no snapshots. Whenever I have create a snapshot, he succeeds, but then I can't start the virtual machine saying that it does not find the vmdk file delta even though I see there in the data store. In order to start the virtual machine, I have to delete the inventory and it readd, but then I lose the snapshot. I also have another computer virtual running Windows 8.1 that does exactly the same thing. How can I create snapshots safely without damaging the virtual machine? I also tried to create the snapshot while the virtual machine has been activated but that makes crashing and then it does not start again, so I have to repeat the process to remove the inventory and it time. Frustrating. See the screenshots, I have attached.

Once these virtual machines have been in Hyper-V in the past and I just convert to VMware format using the StarWind V2V converter.

Yes, for an ESXi host and target you must either select the ESX f.vmdk as format target (growable option is for VMware Workstation), or you must convert the virtual machine once more instead of simply upload the files to an ESXi host.

  • Cannot take Photos using the LCD

I just bought a D60 and when I try to take a picture using the LCD screen and auto focus it won't take the picture.  It will however, when I get out of auto focus or when I use the viewfinder.  But not using the LCD and AV screen on.

Everyone knows about this problem?  If so, how to solve it?

I assume you mean that the 60 d (he was in fact a D60, but it is more than 10 years.)

Development of systems should has enough light and (b) an object with a certain contrast.

For example: she would have a hard time focusing on a wall of ordinary color in dim light.  But if you give him something with contrast, going to an easier time concentrating.

What kind of lighting you have and what kind of subject you want to photograph?

Have you tried to test the system under ideal circumstances (beautiful light bright and contrasting topics?)

Either way... using the camera through the viewfinder will still be faster to use liveview.  The camera actually uses different systems development depending on how you use it.

When you use the viewfinder, autofocus camera sensors use "phase detection".  These sensors are not on the image sensor.   The reflex mirror bounces low light these sensors.  The sensors are looking for contrasting edges.  Through a Prism-like efect, part of the image moves in one direction and in the other part (imagine use a pair of scissors to cut a picture into two halves and then slightly evil align the image along the cut).  The amount of the displacement varies according to the distance of focus on the subject.   The camera is capable of analyzing the pixels along the edge to determine how the two halves should adjust, and with this, it can determine how the focus needs to be adjusted in order to bring together the image.

There is an additional advantage to the phase system to detect.  The system is able to analyze all areas of focus at the same time.  The direction of movement tells the camera that he needs to focus closer or further away.  That means in a moment, the camaera knows _which _ AF point is on the nearest subject and he knows how and to what extent the development must settle before the picture comes to focus.  That means the phase detect AF systems is generally useless to "hunt" for focus... they know exactly which way to turn the update and how far to go to get a lock.

The phase detection system is very fast.

When the camera using the "live view" mode, the reflex mirror was swinging clear so that the light can strike the image sensor.  This means the tiny mirrors that bounce light in the development of phase-detect sensors are not in-game camera cannot use this system.

Instead, it analyzes the image on the sensor trying to achieve maximum contrast in the target areas.

The best example I can think of is to imagine a "UPC code" (bar code) and imagine what it looks like when it is 'in' focus 'out' of focus vs.  If it is, in short, you have a white background with rows of sharp, crisp, black.  But if you think that involved... colors each pixel is 'white' (background) or 'black' (scratches).  There is no pixel 'gray '.    Now, imagine this same barcode horribly blurred... you have a white background, but when you approach a black line, go you through a lot of "grey" get pixels gradually darker until you get to the black parts of the streak.   The camera knows that he emphasized when she reached the highest possible contrast between adjacent pixels.

Unlike the "detection phase" development, the system of 'contrast' doesn't know what direction to adjust to get the update.  It samples should be taken... (adjust and see if it is better or worse... If it gets worse, reverse the sense of the update and try again).  Not only the computer did not have to do further analysis to detect if the image is sharp... He must do more iterations because of the problem of hunting of accent.

Point & shoot cameras and 'live view' mode on cameras digital SLRS generally use this system of the development of "contrast detection.  The system is extremely accurate... but the drawback is that the computer has to analyze the image for contrast several times and it's not nearly as fast as the phase detect sensors (which are usually extremely fast).

Cameras struggle to concentrate when there are nothing to do with contrast high to base its analysis.  They struggle in low light because there is not much difference between the dark and light areas.

Canon has a new system called the "double pixel" AF.  They essentially combined the "phase detection" technology right on the sensor by creating micro-prismes on the surface of the imaging sensor itself.  The camera is actually capable of doing the "phase detection" style auto-focus directly on the surface of the sensor (never possible and Canon are the only company that got it.)

The new 70 d is the first DSLR (and currently only) to get the system.

If shoot you, you don't have the choice... the mirror must be upward in order to record videos so the camera can only use by contrast detection focus when shooting video *-with the exception of the D 70 because he can actually do "phase detection" focus directly on the sensor.

  • Take possession of the System32 folder

I have problems to install things like Visual Studio, the GPU drivers, printer drivers, file transfer from desktop to a folder on the desktop do not let me use or delete the new file, update Windows Defender and who-knows-what else that gives me an error immediately. Understood the problem with the GPU drivers by taking possession of the 'pilot' and 'DriverStore' files in the System32 folder with 'Appropriate' in the context menu. My old PC is running the same OS without any problem at all.
Tried to buy permissions System32 the usual way, but I get an error. For the "pilot" and 'DriverStore', I used the context menu. It works, but it gives me the permissions (Administrator) AND I (users) defines as the owner. I just want to have permissions to change (installation, etc.) things and let the owner of the same. Now, the owner is not the same thing in other folders. SYSTEM and TrustedInstaler all the way with different permissions for them. Generally 'Users' have 3 permissions, 'Administrator' has 0 permissions, 'TrustedInstaler' has 1 authorization, "CREATOR OWNER" has 0 permissions, 'SYSTEM' has 0 or each authorization. Sometimes, there are even my username with 0 permissions, but especially it is not at all here.

I already tried to solve crash Visual Studio start in a forum: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/silverlight/en-US/7703213f-6977-4e51-a4ea-8c2835b5d383/visual-studio-2012-express-for-desktop-crash-after-startup
but they pointed me here. Now, I know for some that this mess of property is the problem in all.

    1. is it safe to take ownership of the whole System32 or even Windows folder?
    2. how to set full control in permissions without getting an error?
    3. as a last resort: if I format my HARD drive and do a clean install, will this problem persists? Or is there a way to prevent it from happening?

I can't do anything else until I get comments. Can anyone recommend a way to solve this problem?

I thought I knew what I was doing, but apparently not...

    I agree

Two a problem with the new drive.

    1. You get the error message comes from the basic disk with a different size than the disks of the snapshot.
    2. With a size of 256 GB, you will not be able to create snapshots of the disk (on ESXi prior to 5.0 with a block size of 1 MB)

What you can try to do is to edit the file PJAEast - DL01_1.vmdk :

    • 536870912 VMFS 'PJAEast-DL01_1 - flat hard' RW--> RW 70943040 VMFS 'PJAEast-DL01_1 - flat hard. "
    • DDB. Geometry.Cylinders = "33418'-> ddb.geometry.cylinders = '4416.

After that, I would recommend to clone the virtual disk to a new one, replace the virtual disk in the virtual machine settings and resize it to a maximum of 254GB (see "calculates the time system required by the snapshot files" at http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1012384)

    • vmkfstools-i PJAEast-DL01_1 - 000003.vmdk PJAEast - DL01_1a.vmdk
