Cannot turn off or disable password protected sharing the network and sharing Center

I'm trying to turn some pretty simple sharing of files between our windows PC (two portable minicomputers running under XP, a desk and a laptop running vista). File sharing functions between the XP computers. However, I am simply unable to influence the "password protected sharing setting" in the network and sharing Center. I check the option to turn it off and I get a click through UAC dialog window, the mouse cursor turns for a short time while as if windows is pretending to do something, but the password protected sharing setting is always on.

I tried to disable Avira Antivir.

I enabled the guest account and set its password to a string explicitly empty with net user guest «»

Nothing helps.

    Hi wjabdella,

    Thank you for your answer!

In the post I provided on the hard reset, he mentioned: sometimes, when plugged into a surge protector or battery backup, the quantity of electricity is not received by the printer.  Power problems can cause printing problems.  It is particularly important to be plugged directly into a wall outlet with wireless connectivity problems, "sleep mode" and other power problems.

So by unplugging the power and waiting, it resets the printer almost to its original state without making a complete factory reset and lose any other information.

Yes, but why do you want to disable iTunes game? When you subscribe to Match iTunes, your library is analyzed to determine what can be matched or must be downloaded. When the scan is complete, your library will be updated automatically when you add new tracks or edit metadata.

  • Win 7 Pro wonder network password when even "password protected sharing" is disabled.

Hello! I use a simple desk Win7 networking with 4 computers, all connected by cable, Win 7 Pro all around. Each computer has a user as an administrator, and all have the same password.  Sometimes after an upgrade or a change in the software, one of the workstations can't connect to the server. Windows security box appears and asks you "Network password". I've never set a network password and any combination of user names and existing PW there will allow him to connect. Other workstations connect properly. Disabling the firewall (McAfee) makes no difference.  Internet access router is OK

Dear Sooraj: I didn't do any of these changes to work stations, but I found another post from Alex Zhao on the change of access to the network and the local network settings. He suggested the translation of names/SID anonymous authorization and Let Everyone permissions apply to anonymous users be activated, so I enabled them. He also suggested setting LAN to send LM and NTLM - use security if negotiated, NTLMv2 session security, so I put it as well. Still no go. However, as soon as I restarted my router, the missing dialog box and I can see the desktop and print OK on the printer and the network is back to normal.  My question is now: these define inappropriate or likely to cause problems for me later? I try to change one of their return? Thanks for your help! Great job. -Dr. Bob

  • Message error "parameter is Incorrect" when powering down wide network of password protected sharing

In the network and sharing Center, when I click on the arrow to option sharing protected by password, select turn off password protected sharing and click on apply, I get an error message saying "the parameter is Incorrect."  In fact, I would keep the Division password protected, but my son is trying to use a printer that is hard, connected to my computer via the wireless network and enter my user name and password.  It also has Vista.  I check the box saying to remember the password on her computer, but it does not work. Whenever he stops his laptop computer and restarts, then try to print, enter my user name and password again!  I need to get Vista to work on one of these computers!

    Hello anderfam,

Thanks for posting on the Microsoft answers Community Forum.

    (1) make sure that the file and printer sharing is enabled.
    (2) If you are using a computer connected to a "working group", click on the arrow next to password protected sharing to expand this section.  Check if password protected sharing is enabled or disabled.

If the password sharing is enabled, only people with a user account and password for this computer will be able to access your printer. Disable this option if you want anyone on the network can access the printer you share unless you give then a user account and password.

    Printer sharing:
    ------------------

To share the printer, configure the printer as a shared printer on the server or the host (the computer connected to the printer).
Make sure that you install the printer driver on each client or the system remote (computers other than the server).
It is preferable to obtain the most recent driver of your Web site.
Also check that the printer is compatible with Windows XP and Windows Vista.

If Windows XP Professional Edition is the host:

    1. open the Printers window.
    2. click the right button on your printer list, and then select "Sharing" in the menu that appears.
    3. Select 'Share this printer', type a share name for the printer and click on 'OK '. Take note of this name as it will be used later.

When Windows Vista is the client:
    Install the printer driver
Use a driver downloaded from the manufacturer's site to install the printer

    1. If you use the downloaded driver, double-click the downloaded file, then click on 'run '. The file will then be extracted and start the driver installation.
2 follow the prompts and continue with the installation until you reach the Setup completed screen appears.
    3. on this screen, check the "Select" printer port box, and then click on the manual button 'Selection '.
    4. Select "" LPT1: port local printer ' and click on 'OK', then click 'Finish'. "
    5. in the Printers window, right-click the printer icon and select 'Properties' (access to the Printers window)
    6. click on the tab "Ports", and then click 'Add Port '.
    7. Select "Local Port" and click "new port" button.
    8. Enter the name of the port using the XP computer name and the name of the printer in the \\ComputerName\PrinterName form and then click 'OK '. Close the Port name window.
    9. click on 'Close' in the Printer Ports window.
    10. the new port poster now as being selected. Click "close".
    11. click on "Install driver" If the following window appears. You are now ready to print.

Another thing is to make sure that if the firewall windows is that there is an exception specified for sharing files and printing.
Make sure that all the computers are on the same workgroup. By default, XP machines are set to "MSHOME" while Vista machines are set to "WORKGROUP". They should both say WORKGROUP.

If please reply back and let us know if these measures have helped to solve your problem or if you need further assistance. We will be happy to help you.

    Sincerely,

  • Windows 7 does not ask for password when password protected sharing is on.

    Hi guys,.

I'm no stranger to permissions etc as I work in it, but it confused me after 4 hours of messing around.

I'm trying to make sure that when I share a file on my home network that windows requires a password in order to access what it is not doing.

The following conditions are true for both machines:

    Are windows 7 Home premium

Have file sharing enabled on each respective network adapter

Are members of the home network

Are both on the network, called "WORKING group".

Assistant file sharing was turned on and off then to make sure it wasn't an influence, it is currently off as he auto-actions the user root folder.

    Network discovery is on

File sharing and printer is on

I tried the two combinations of sharing folders public or not, but is currently disabled.

    Streaming media is off

    Password protected sharing is on

Tried the two combinations of user accounts and passwords to connect to other computers. (This is currently set to allow windows to manage)

So I won't list them the public parameters are not relevant.

I put one hand on my laptop remove 'Everyone' and 'administrators' only have my own authorized account which is be an administrator.

My other machine but I still seem to be able to open and access the folder. I tried to change advanced sharing permissions and security settings to exclude any group that can be let my other pc on the network but so far still no prompt for password.

I even went to regedit and apply the following on both machines:

    1. Open Registry Editor (Start search - regedit)
    2. navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
    3. create a new DWORD value with the following properties: NAME: LmCompatibilityLevel
    VALUE: 1
4 reboot your PC and try again to establish the connection.

    Can anyone help?

    Thank you people!

I think I've cracked the question:

I created a new account admin on my PC and the first time I tried to access anything, I got the password. I don't have it a second time.

I then removed and put in the passwords and then disconnected cache and back in and asked again the password.

I tried the same thing on my other account, but it has not yet requested.

It turns out that even on another computer, if you have the same username and password that it automatically authorizes for good once you enter the network password first.

  • Password protected sharing

I've set up according to the "book" of password protected sharing and I only get "access denied" from Vista or XP machines. All the account names and passwords are correct on both computers.

If I put 'All' in the list then everything works but of course no security.

Thank you Anthony T for you answer.

Everything now works as it should in the first place, hope it holds for several days.

    My solution (s):

    1. wait a day, or
    2. turn off the XP machine, then press, or
3 turn off the Windows Firewall on again.
    4. clear your "outer" firewall for a day, do work things out and then turn it back on.

One of these (or all three) or none of them did the trick.

Thanks for help you, I was definitely lost.

  • Cannot turn off bluetooth from the option of the family disappeared in the context menu of Tablet

    Hello

Well, I installed Win 7 on my X61t, as well as new software from Lenovo, and I can't understand how to disable bluetooth now. I used to do that via the context Menu in tablet, I had radios settings there and I could turn off/turn on the WiFi and Bluetooth separately there. Now, I have only one option of radio wireless disable, which basically does the same thing as the wireless switch, so it's a bit useless.

I guess that option could have dissaperaed because I have not installed logins now (and I can't install it because I'm fine with what I get with 7).

So, how can I disable BT now? I tried through the taskbar icon, I tried via the Control Panel, through network connections, even through the Device Manager. Even when I disable all BT devices and connections Bluetooth LED remains on, so it is not totally disabled at the hardware level. Of course, so I want to be able to turn off quickly, as I did through the context menu of the Tablet, via the control panel is not really a solution anyway.

Oh, and I don't know if it's important, but the Bluetooth light is on all the time during the boot now, and I don't think that it was before. Although maybe I just never used on startup with bluetooth turned on, so I didn't notice... here, not sure.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks, has soon!

    Dear Stansfield

Hope a low-tech suggestion works for you.
Have had a similar experience with the portability of devices two radio WLAN and Bluetooth individually vs black & white radio power.

Found I needed to load the last shortcut key driver in your case for a X 61 Tablet 7764 CTO,
    http://www-307.IBM.com/PC/support/site.WSS/document.do?sitestyle=Lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-68009

Then use the combination Fn and F5 (in blue) instead of other options in some menus of the Windows user interface.
And voila, I found that the behavior has been defined in the "Fn + F5 parameters" button at the bottom of the pop-up window, the second box option
"Alternate between turn off all wireless radios and by turning on all radios.
instead of the first choice that I wanted
'Display a menu that allows me to control the parameters of power to radio wireless in my system individually.

Had the behavior corrected, and now he's doing what I want to happen.
It will be useful for you, too.
