Scan to searchable PDF and search using Windows Search
I use a HP Officejet Pro 8600 and try to create PDF files which is using Windows Search, i.e. display the directory tree and type a search term in the search box.
I tried to use the HPScan software to create a "Searchable PDF." type analysis I also tried to create "editable text (OCR)" scan using both the HPScan software and directly from the printer. I was able to select and copy text in all documents resulting (PDF and RTF) and I've seaerch for text in the document when the document is opened. BUT what I need to be able to do is to find a document scanned on my computer looking into the content of the document itself (and not by the search for metadata or tags).
I checked to make sure that Windows Search is to search with the CONTENTS of the statement (he finds all Word documents...). Is there something special I need to do in the software of HP on the printer itself ther to get this working? Thanks in advance for your help.
(P.S. I use Windows 7, 64-bit if it matters.)
I'm afraid that what you are wanting to do is not possible. There is a limitation in how Windows interacts with the PDF file format. It cannot index files as it can for a Word document. You will need to scan the documents in PDF format, and then convert them to Word document, so you can search for the best.

Unable to find files and folders using Windows Search
Original title: Windows search returns no results, but only for a single user - another user works very well - Windows 7
All of a sudden windows search of files and folders (from windows Explorer) do not return results - even if I'm looking for in a folder with a file name that I know is in there. However, it works for the other user on this system.
The things that I tried or looked at who did not work:
- Configuration of the default folder options.
- reconstruction of the index
- sfc/scannow - said "windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to solve some of them. I have the CBS. If necessary log file.
- research done that windows has been archived 'Tour of the windows features turn on or off.
- Ran the registry of Windows Search - he said that he fixed two things (cannot tell you what they were now), but still, it does not solve the problem. When I run it says once again that there are no errors.
- I checked this registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced\\\ and key Start_SearchFiles - which was set to 2, the default - Under Customize Start Menu - search with public folders is selected under search for other files and libraries.
It still does not work. The search box in the start menu seems to work, but not for anything I get.
Frustrated!

How to use windows search to search the contents of a bunch of files with random names / extensions? Plain txt files say 1,000 with random name of file extensions?
You can always search within those, but you need to add extensions to the file system so that it knows to look inside these files. You said that you have a lot, so it's perhaps tedious. Here's How to search within several types of files.
One thing you could try is rather to make a copy of this file, rename all the files to the same extension (even an extension false for example something.bill) and perform your search on this band. Just an idea.

How can I use windows search to search for pdf files containing a specific word?
I have a folder with several pdf files. When I use windows search for a word that I know exists in one of the files, I get no results. It does not work when I use the content: either.
How can I use windows search to search for pdf files containing a specific word?
Do I need to install something to activate search within .pdf?
If you use Win7 32 bit, the iFilter is bundled with Acrobat Reader 9. On Win7 64-bit, you will need to install it separately.

Cannot use Windows Anytime upgrade Windows 7 family premium - product not available
I'm trying to upgrade a computer Windows 7 Home Premium to Windows 7 Pro. When I tried the Windows Anytime Upgrade (launched from the System Properties dialog box) I got an error that says that the product was unavailable (or something like that). I had put in which to purchase, contact and payment information, and then when I went to submit the order I got the message saying something to the effect that the product was not available.
Is this true, is there no way to use this tool to upgrade to Windows 7 Pro?
Thanks for your help.
Online purchase of Microsoft is no longer available.
Also given that Microsoft remove Windows 7 sales prices soared $$$
As meet you these requirements:
Windows Anytime Upgrade will only allow upgrades from a 32-bit version to a 32-bit version or a 64-bit version to a 64-bit version. You cannot pass a version 32-bit to a 64-bit version for Windows Anytime Upgrade, for example. For more information on 32-bit versions and 64-bit Windows, see 32-bit and 64-bit Windows: frequently asked questions.

When you use Windows Search error SearchFilterHost.exe - Application error
When you are using Windows XP (SP3) running Windows Search (4.0), I get the error message:
SearchFilterHost.exe - Application error
The instruction at "0x0af609c" referenced memory at "0 x 00000014. The memory could not be "read".
Click OK to terminate the program
I do nothing especially when this happens and the disabling or uninstalling this feature is not an option that I and some of the programs that I use it. She repeats every few minutes, but I'm pretty sure it's because the application restarts whenever you "Finish". I also tried to reinstall it but to no avail. Thanks in advance for any help.
These errors appear when the index database is corrupted, for example during the crash, etc. The solution is, except disabling or removing the search service, reconstruction of the index. Just reinstall will not solve the problem, because that does not remove the corrupted index.
On XP Pro:
(1) start 'services.msc' and find Windows Search stop.
My personal advice: check user accounts all records and make sure that the "Application Data" and "Local Settings" directories have their attribute 'Index summary' unchecked, including all files and subfolders. You can avoid many possible future performance issues.
2) go to c:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft and delete the entire directory "Search" (or just rename / move elsewhere).
(3) close the session log. Index will rebuild, it may take some time, depending on the amount of documents, music, etc. you have. So be patient with harddisk increased temporary activity. Normally it works with a low priority.
On Vista/7 Search index is located in \ProgramData\Microsoft, otherwise,'s done it the same way. Unfortunately, I do not know how to avoid the real alteration. XP seems more inclined to him.

"File not found" - cannot use Windows
I was rearranging some files on my Mac, and since I restarted merger, I get the "File not found" error when you try to start Windows. During the conversion of the records, I was still able to use the Fusion and windows, so I don't think that there is no problem. I'm fairly certain that I did not remove the file for Windows & Fusion, but now I can't use Windows and I am in desperate need of it. Here's what I see. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The default location to store the virtual machines is ~/Documents/VirtualMachines.
You have moved the file vmwarevm of Windows 7 to another location.
If you remember to move this file to another location, you must manually navigate to the new location and open the file (Windows 7 vmwarevm). Merger will create a new entry in the library and you will be able to access Windows 7.
If you don't remember the location, try searching Windows 7 or Windows 7 vmwarevm in the spotlight.
