TX

VikashVivek,

The issue/original post as well as answers related to the re-establishment of the feature to display thumbnails of files instead of file icons.  The answers above solve this 'problem '.

Your post implies that you cannot view the pdf files.  Files with extension '.pdf' are opened by Adobe Reader.  If your problem is that you can't open the pdf files, make sure that install you Adobe Reader.  Most of the websites have links with Adobe.

If Adobe Reader is installed and when you view a list of (or link to) pdf files do not see the icon of Adobe or the thumbnail, try the five steps below.

If you know Adobe Reader is installed, but cannot open a pdf file by double-clicking on the name of the file, try the five steps below.

1. right click on a pdf file

2. you should see a dialog box with a bunch of options

3 move the mouse down to 'Open with' and click on it

4. There will be an option like this 'always open with' box

5. move the pointer to the Adobe Reader icon and click on it

If, in step 5, you don't see Adobe Reader as an option, then Adobe Reader is not a saved application.  In this case, you will need to install or reinstall.

There is another possibility.  When you try to open a pdf file, if you get a message from Windows saying: you are not allowed to open the file (location), you will need to contact the owner of the system.

I hope this helps.

  • Cannot view PSD files in windows Explorer

Not sure why this is, but I just get a miniature icon that says PSD rather than see a preview of the file.  Also the message 'file type cannot be displayed' when you attempt to view with Photo Viewer. Help, please! I have Windows 7 Professional.

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft forums.

You must install Adobe Photoshop 7.0 or higher to view these thumbnails using explore.  Don't use third-party products, this will slow down the performance of your pc.

  • Cannot view thumbnails by using the detailed view

I'm unable to view thumbnails in windows Explorer while I'm using detailed view.  I can't see them when they are Extra Large.  I don't see their small, not in the list, not in an environment... just to Extra Large.  I hate them Extra Large.  I want to display in the detail view.

That's what I've done so far:

Under Folder Options / I "Unchecked" view on the "always show icons never thumbnails".  It does not work.

I go through TONS of problems with thumbnails in the forums, but couldn't find a solution to my problem.

I use Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.  I never had a problem with thumbnails under Windows XP.  Now I'm fighting and I want to show my nail of the thumb again.

I don't know what I can do.  I must be missing something in the settings; But what?

    Can anyone help?

Have you changed the settings of the Visual effect as well?

First of all I suggest you open the Visual effects settings.

This is how you do it:

    1, click Start

    2. open the control panel (all items vew) and click the tools and Information on performance.

    (A) click the link advanced tools in the blue left pane.
    (B) click on adjust them the appearance and performance of Windows liaison, then close this window later.

    4. you will then see the Visual effects settings to select.

    5. check 'Show thumbnails instead of icons'

    6. click on apply and then ok

If this does not work, create a new user account and check.

  • Resources shared on XP in Windows 7 but cannot view shared resources on Windows 7 XP?

Suddenly, my network has gone from wack-o!

I cannot view shared resources (disks, folders) on the 7 machine Windows XP machine, but can view shared resources on Windows 7 machine from XP machine?

    Machine error message Windows 7:
    Windows cannot access \\machine\folder
You are not allowed access to the
\\machine\folder.  Contact your network administrator to request access.

When I created the sharing folders and drives (on both XP machines and 7), the permissions for everyone.  I have the same name of user account on both computers.

    What is going on?

Your general statement "Windows 7 has problems to access shared resources on XP" is incorrect. Yes, you have problems, but I have and none of my clients, amounts of problems to access the resources on XP Windows 7 boxes boxes. If something has changed in your situation, even if you don't think he has. It is very difficult to solve network problems without being on-site, but your error message does not indicate a problem with the username/password accounts, permissions or misconfigured firewall. All I can do is give you my usual network troubleshooting steps and you suggest to go through them. Also given that the problem comes from the XP box, troubleshooting of small network of Hans-Georg Michna MVP might help.

http://winhlp.com/wxnet.htm - small troubleshooting network by Hans-Georg Michna

Problems sharing files between computers on a network are usually caused by 1) a misconfigured firewall or a firewall neglected (including a dynamic firewall in a virtual private network); or (2) inadvertently run two firewalls such as the firewall of Windows and a third-party firewall. and/or (3) do not have accounts to the same users and passwords on all computers in the workgroup. (4) tries to create actions where the operating system does not.

In Windows 7, go to control panel > everything in Control Panel > network and sharing Center. Click on "change the advanced sharing settings. You don't want to use the residential group unless you have all Windows 7 machines. If you do and you want to use the homegroup, see Windows 7 Help & Support. Otherwise, in sharing advanced:

Discovery of plug in the network
Open the files and printers sharing
Turn on the sharing section Public folder sharing
    Plug the password protected sharing

    A. configure the firewall on all machines to allow traffic to local area network (LAN) as being approved. With the Windows Firewall, turning on window file sharing and printer as the above will take care of that for you. If you are not running a third-party firewall or you have an antivirus/security with its own firewall component program, then you're fine.  With a third-party firewall, I usually set up the allocation of LAN with an IP address range. E.g. would be 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254. Obviously you would substitute your correct subnet. Refer to the safety of any third party program or the user forums for how to correctly configure its firewall. Do not run more than one firewall. DON'T STOP FIREWALLS; CONFIGURE THEM CORRECTLY.

    (B) to facilitate the Organization, put all computers in the same workgroup. This is done from the System applet in Control Panel, the computer name tab.

    C. create the counterpart of the user accounts and passwords on all machines. You do not need to be logged into the same account on all machines and assigned to each user account passwords can be different; accounts/passwords just need to exist and to match on all machines. DO NOT NEGLECT TO CREATE PASSWORDS, EVEN IF ONLY OF SIMPLE. If you want a machine to boot directly to the desktop (a particular user account) for convenience, you can do this:

Start > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

XP - set up Windows to automatically connect (MVP Ramesh) - http://windowsxp.mvps.org/Autologon.htm

    D. Si one or more of the computers on your network are XP Pro or Media Center, turn off Simple file sharing (Folder Options > view tab).

    E. create share as you wish. In Windows 7 I usually share the Desktop of the user and the Public directory. MS - MVP - Elephant Boy computers - don't panic!

  • Cannot view thumbnails in the Explorer in Win7

Machine: new Toshiba P500 with Intel i7 and Ultimate 64 bit of Windows 7 home

Move my files on the machine and I noticed that not all my files showed the photos properly.  Word documents and Excel as well as photos and videos in all folders display photos properly for medium, Large and Extra Large icons settings.  At the same time, the icon is displayed instead of the thumbnail for all Adobe PDF files.  I have Adobe Reader 10.0 installed.

Note: the last time I met this problem was on a Windows Vista-based computer after a Windows Update (I think it's an update of .NET) has been installed.  I solved the problem by uninstalling the update and test install to hide.

As an additional note. I made sure the "tools > Options > view > always show icons, never thumbnails" is not checked.

    Thanks in advance

    Greetings,

There is another parameter useful to take a look at.

    Try this:

Click on, start > Control Panel > system > top left on System Advanced Page Settings, click, > Advanced tab, performance, click Settings > highlight: show thumbnails instead of icons

    Is it verified?

  • Cannot view thumbnails of .mov in Vista

This seems to be a very common problem and why Windows did not have fixed, I don't know, but I can't see the thumbnails for files .mov, only the logo of quicktime on my Vista computer.
I tried to replace the .mov/shellex the registry part, I tried to delete all the thumbnails of cleanmgr, I downloaded the Pack of codecs K-Lite and still nothing worked.
It's very frustrating because almost all of my videos are .mov and therefore, it is nigh on impossible to establish who's who of just a QuickTime logo. If anyone can help, I would be very grateful.

    Hello

Important: this section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

For more information about how to back up the registry, see the link:

    Back up the registry

I suggest for the link and follow the suggestions and check if that helps:

  • Cannot view my pictures in Windows - coming souvenir photo gallery upward with a pink screen!

Recently when I go to in my photo folders and try to view an of my my photos or images it is endlessly with a pink full screen with a slight preview of the photo (a bit like a photo negative!) Have you tried to change the color and other levels out a bit of luck. This was never a problem until a week ago. Have just got a new Philips monitor 190SW, it would have something to do with it? Any help or ideas on what could cause this problem or how to fix this would be appreciated.

    Hi Dave D

Discovered that the problem was with the new monitor. The problem occurs because an incorrect color profile is used for the device to monitor in color management. When Windows Live Photo Gallery uses the incorrect color profile to manage settings of color for the images, the image may not appear as expected. Note: Microsoft Paint and Microsoft Windows Picture and Fax Viewer does not use color profiles to manage the parameters of color for the images.

I had to do the following (instructions for anyone else having a similar problem). For Windows Vista only.

    1. click on START, type color management in the Search box and press ENTER.

    2. in the color management dialog box, click to select the use my settings for this device check box.

    3. in the list of profiles associated with this device , click the color profile you want to remove and then click RemoveNote if you receive a warning message, click Yes.

    4. click close, and then restart the computer.

Hope this helps someone else with a similar problem.

  • Cannot view Bcc recipients in Windows Live Mail sent mail

I have Windows Live Mail, Windows 7 OS, and IMAP gmail. I tried everything I can find to display the BCC recipients, and all I can see in 'Détails' is "undisclosed recipients". I tried Ctrl + F3 (which used to work when I had Outlook Express), I clicked on properties/details. Some instructions speak by clicking a down arrow that is supposed to be right at the top of a message, but I do not have this arrow. If someone has found a way to solve this problem, I'd love to hear about it.

If you don't know why, then WLMail used its default settings for Gmail accounts, which is IMAP.

POP3 download only new messages in the Inbox. IMAP synchronizes the contents of all folders (labels in Gmail) between client and server (WLMail and Gmail), so no matter what computer you access account to use IMAP, you will see the same messages in the same place.
