Catalogue of confusion

Catalogue of confusion

I created a new Master catalogue, then found backup on my previous, old, catalogue; so have two overlapping those and have failed to combine. I ran out of records in each. Advice much appreciated!

You have missing files and missing photos. To reconnect, please read Adobe Lightroom - find folders and files moved or missing

If you have connected to these folders, you can drag them to the "My Lightroom Folder" folder, entirely in Lightroom. Or you can move files to anywhere where you want using your operating system and then to reconnect using the link above.

  • Catalogue of confusion after the removal of the photos on external hard drive. [was: help!]

    I tried to be smart and I bought an external hardrive to free up some space on my laptop.  I transferred all my photos to the hardrive thought that I would be able to work on these photos in lightroom, as long as I had the hard drive plugged into my laptop.  Well this is not the case apparently.  So I imported all the photos into lightroom from the hard drive.  With the hard drive plugged into the laptop I can access all my pictures, but the catalogs that I was editing have lost all their changes.  I tried to open the backup lightroom from yesterday, and nothing happens.  If I select one of my catalogs that none of the images are there, he also says missing photos.  So I tried to locate all missing photos, and nothing happened.  All the photos are in lightroom, they appear in the library under the external hardrive.  But I can't shoot in my catalogs and cannot roll back changes to the photos I was editing when I put all my photos on the external hard drive.

    Hi Amanda,.

    You get the workflow a bit confused here. It is hard to follow all of the steps you took, but I will try to explain the correct procedure.

    1. you have a Lightroom Catalog and all images in the catalog pointing to a location on the internal drive (ideally, it would be a series of folders under the folder of a high level, to make it easier to step 3 below).

    2. copy the image of folders containing images of the Interior on the external drive. You now have two copies of your images.

    3. open Lightroom and you should see all your images again. Open the files Panel and right-click on the top-level folder that contains all the image files (this is where a single top-level folder is priceless). Choose 'location of folder update... »

    4. navigate to the top level on the external drive folder and choose that. Your Lightroom Catalog is now oriented to the external hard drive.

    At this point, you can go on using Lightroom normally. You can copy, move or delete the images of your internal drive, because Lightroom is their use is no longer.

    Note that in step 3 above, if all your image files are not contained in a single top-level folder, you will need to repeat steps 3 and 4 several times, once for each top-level folder.

  • What program to bring in and how multi-catalogue? LR, Photoshop Elements, first Elements

    I use Lightroom 6 purchased programs, 12 items, Photoshop and Premiere of 12 elements.  I'm shooting jpeg + RAW (Sony) and 4K 1080 video.  I sometimes even combine images and videos for editing in first to create video slideshows with video clips.  Sometimes I just use LR to adjust still photos for Web or print.  Or can I use LR or elements to edit the stills of preparation for first video import.

    The question I have is which is the best way to import and catalog so the files are put at my disposal without risk of confusion as to where they are little matter which of the three editing programs I use?  Thank you.

    I think you want to use a single catalog for all of your photos and videos. Put things into several catalogues simply makes it more difficult to find.

    If you choose Lightroom as the only one catalog, you can edit photos and videos in Lightroom and send your photos to PSE for other changes (use the command "Edit In... "), and you can send your videos to the first for mounting (same things, use"Edit In... »)

    If you use PES or first or both depending on your catalog, this makes pretty well useless, there is no easy way for photos in a catalog PSE or videos in the catalogue of the first to be sent to Lightroom for editing in Lightroom.

  • Catalogue again pass PC but moved with the tree files metadata and tag

    I'll start at the beginning. Years ago I had PS elements 4 original and upgraded to PSE11 on the same computer and no problem. . at some point, we moved the files from a PC to a new PC. We knew on the displacement of PES in the catalogue and transfer of files. I guess I have relabelled and organized all the photos and was happy for years.

    Last month my husband used the utility PC mover 'link turn' PES 11 to a new PC by moving all the files. I then found the problem, because all my photos had no information and no tag and no tree tag on the screen.  As a precaution, I saved the metadata to all media and created a tree of xml on the old PC before tags it back up again. We were going to do the process of back-up/restore to the new PC, but when my husband was struggling to install Adobe PES 11 on the new PC he transferred somehow all my photos (12,000) and there they were with labels and information and all organized under their respective keywords.

    The problem is PSE11 created a new file (Bethpictures) with all the photos inside.

    Now it seems that we SO 3 separate files with these same pictures 12 000 each. I see all these folders on the left side of the page of the Organizer.

    (1) the original file from Windows

    (2) the old file from PC-bethalbums

    (3) new file of PC-bethpictures

    and XML file - tree of the tag

    so is it possible to remove redundancies and the tag tree file without any screwing or should I delete it all and make the catalog upward and restoration of the process. Can we put the Bethpicture file under bethalbums and remove duplicates? Or get rid of bethalbums (from old PC) and only has Beth photos (new files created by PSE)? Can I delete this file tree of xml tag or ultimately the removal of the tree of the tag on my page of Organizer PSE?

    Should I back up catalog now on the new PC? And then when I get a new PC in the future I can use the backup/restore process or one should always save metadata to file?

    OR should I leave him alone?

    If I take a chance - I have the following questions about the process in two steps:

    Is there a video for me to watch on how to do this?

    some issues are still confused.

    1. on the new should PC-before you begin the process I install PES 11?

    1 a - should there be pictures on the new Windows PC at all? Or get everything restored with AdobePSE11?

    2 - when the backup catalog on CD it will prompt me when another CD is required to be inserted if several CD is necessary?

    Catalogue food 3 when to new PC is there an order to put in the CD?

    Sorry for the delay in responding to...

    You have layoffs after several restorations.

    Before you delete it, you should check which of these 'restorations' are the best.

    Each restoration produced a copy of your image tree and a catalog folder.

    When you open the organizer with one of the catalogues referring to these various restorations, you can consult:

    -where the pictures are stored (in the information on the right panel)

    -where the catalog folder is stored: Help menu > system information.

    If you are satisfied with a given restore session, at the locations above should not be deleted, the others can be deleted completely from the Explorer or Finder.

    Your catalog is probably not in the default location on C:, it may be in a different location. You can use Catalog Manager to move the catalog to the location by default if it is not already there.

    Should I back up catalog now on the new PC? And then when I get a new PC in the future I can use the backup/restore process or one should always save metadata to file?

    OR should I leave him alone?

    It would be a good thing. Registration of metadata to the files is a good and redundant way to be sure, but a healthy backup is sufficient.

    1. on the new should PC-before you begin the process I install PES 11?

    Yes

    1 a - should there be pictures on the new Windows PC at all? Or get everything restored with AdobePSE11?

    No, everything is restored, firstly the photo files, then the catalog. If so, you will need to convert a catalog from an older version;

  • Very confused...

    My problem is the following.  I have a MAC laptop and desktop MAC.  Friday, I bought LightRoom CC on my laptop and it works fine.  All my photos are on an EXTERNAL hard drive.  I have no backup to the external hard drive, and it makes me nervous.  So I installed LightRoom CC on my desk, too.  But when I plug the HDD external desktop, everything doesn't appear on the desktop in Lightroom, as it does on the laptop.  No metatags or collections, only the photos... and there are too many photos.  I had a lot of duplicates, duplicates more than 13000... I deleted them on the laptop, but they do not display as deleted on the desktop...  So, how do the Office to synchronize and be like the laptop?  I want Office to save on the desktop and not on the external hard drive, so that I have a copy of any case where the diving hard drive crashes... I have a lot of desktop space.  Can you please help me get this working correctly?  I really appreciate your help!  Thank you in advance!

    betterthangreens wrote:

    It is confusing because I had 5 Lightroom on computers... and then Friday, I bought Lightroom 6 CC, and when I installed Lightroom 6 CC, he made ANOTHER catalogue... so I'm confused as to which is which...

    Normally the LR 5 catalog file is called Catalog 5 Lightroom and LR CC/6 catalog to Lightroom. No number between Lightroom and catalog.

    Most simple thing to do is to copy the CC/LR6 catalog in a folder of your choice (also copy the file Previews) and then rename it to Lightroom 6 (or CC) catalog. Then in LR, open preferences and in the region of default catalog on the tab general, click the small triangle pointed downward and select other and navigate to the newly renamed LR CC/6 catalog.

  • LR 6 catalogue LR 5 should be updated somehow?

    In my LR account (on the drive of my Photos), there are currently too many a LR5 and Previews catalog and a catalog LR6 and realized.  5 catalogue is still readable/usable by LR 6 or is there a conversion or upgrade, I have to perform?  Two catalogues will be always separated?  In the book by Martin Evening on LR6 it indicates there is some kind of process of upgrade for the older catalog, but I'm confused about what it means exactly.

    Thanks for your time,

    BAB

    If you use Lightroom 6, and all your work is as you expect it to be, then the conversion took place. That's all there is to it. You can keep the 5 Lightroom Catalog just in case something goes wrong, before a scheduled backup of the catalog Lightroom 6. But from a technical point of view, you don't need the old catalog. Lightroom 6 won't use it. If you try to open it, Lightroom converts again, and you will be back to the point that you were in this catalogue.

  • Catalogues and several PC

    Hello. I am new to CC & confused about catalogues and several PC. My catalog (5.5 GB) resides on the C: drive to my desktop PC, like the installation of Lightroom. My pictures are on an internal hard drive F:. I also have Lightroom installed on my laptop. The two computers are on the same network. What is the recommended method to access the catalogue of my laptop and have all changes reflected on two computers? I have read many articles and posts on this topic, but I'm still confused.

    Hi davida31228700,

    We do not recommend to store the catalog on the network even if you can have images stored on networks.

    If you want to have the same work in the computer, you can have your catalog on a disk external with the images so that you can use same catalog back and foam between the two computers.

    Check the below thread for more information: Re: Sync Lightroom catalogs between two different computers

  • Confusion between the physical schema definition MSSQL Server

    Hello

    I'm learning ODI 11 g and I am currently working under the physical definition of the schema under topology Navigator. I want to import data from MS SQL Oracle Server; I have defined the source (MSSQL Server) and target servers (Oracle). Testicles of connections and that they are working correctly.

    When you set the physical schema for MS SQL server I am confused with the following fields. Can someone help me understand its use here? I'll be very grateful

    (1) database (catalogue)
    (2) owner (schema) here I read-only user which I already defined as part of the definition of the SQL Server. It does not appear in the list.
    (3) database (catalogue of the work)
    (4) owner (scheme of work)

    Best regards
    Muhammad

    >

    Work catalog database is the location of the temporary objects of ODI (for example, C$, $ I, I have$ tables etc.)
    == I use a single user reading to read the data. How ODI creates temporary objects in SQL server. My work and master repository is the Oracle database.

    Temporary tables are used for a number of things, remember that at this moment in the topology - ODI don't know if your connection to the SQL Server is a source or a target, so he wants all the details, just in case. Reasons for Temp of source tables might be:
    Source of the joins of tables in different data sets with a staging expliitly, set on the source.
    Format (change data capture) objects - Tables to langer, newspaper views (items of $ J) etc.
    If you use only MSSQL tables as sources, you proably find no temporary object created side soruce, arrays of C$ will go into the scheme of work target (in this case, Oracle) that the I'll tables$. So in your case, it's normal.

    Scheme of work is the owner of the database value (catalog of the work) - once again, usually of dbo.
    == use dbo as sys in oracle?

    Type-IIRC no matter what user to the sysadmin role that creates objects have these objects as dbo by default.
    Im not MSSQL DBA if.
    Think of it as a qualifier that ODI will use when generation code selection based on the mappings of interface (for example select database.catalog.table xyz) etc.

    Hope that helps

  • Typekit and font management: still a bit confused

    I'm still a bit confused as to how the new TypeKit creative cloud and how it will or will not affect our workflow.

    1. We currently use Extensis Universal Type Server (UTS). We have a member of the creative team Cloud license. TypeKit itself intervene before the fonts are loaded from UTS?
    2. If the fonts are downloaded to the TypeKit Office should I copy them on the UTS? Should my users mix and match of acquired with UTS and TypeKit fonts or maintain status with UTS? You can disable TypeKit if this is the case? How can resolve us conflicts with fonts if UTS and TypeKit run?
    3. Do we need to buy policies now that with TypeKit, the claim is that all Adobe fonts are free with membership CC? How does this interact with UTS?
    4. Adobe still sells fonts if TypeKit as part of the subscription of the CC means the complete catalogue is free?
    5. How the police license issues with TypeKit? In the past, the licensing of fonts has been a major concern in the edition and still very confused on the use and purchase.

    I tried to get a good understanding of the use and rights of fonts throughout my career and with TypeKit, it puts a lot of my recent recognitions in perplexity.

    Thank you for all the answers to my questions.

    I received an email response from and Adobe Rep:

    Let me see if I can clear things here:

    > 1. We currently use Extensis Universal Type Server (UTS). We have a member of the creative team Cloud license. TypeKit itself intervene before the fonts are loaded from UTS?

    A: Unfortunately, I don't have the details here. However, Extensis has announced Typekit can work along the coast UTS: http://blog.extensis.com/font-management/universal-type-server-now-supports-use-typekit-de sktop - fonts.php

    Typekit does not install the fonts in the same way that you install a perpetual license. I hope that this article helps to clarify specific issues.

    > 2. If the fonts are downloaded to the TypeKit Office should I copy them on the UTS? Should my users mix and match fonts with UTS andTypeKit or maintain status with UTS? You can disable TypeKit if this is the case? How can resolve us conflicts with fonts if UTS and TypeKit run?

    A: UTS and Typekit should be able to work at the same time. However, you will not be able to add Typekit fonts to UTS. Each CC Team user to synchronize policies Typekit that they wish to use.

    > 3. Do we need to buy policies now that with TypeKit, the claim is that all Adobe fonts are free with membership CC? How does this interact with UTS?

    A: If the police you need lies in Typekit and you have a portfolio (through the creative teams of cloud or other) Plan you have access to this policy. So, you can synchronize to Typekit and use it in desktop applications. If a font is not available on Typekit, you will need to purchase a perpetual license for the team and add to UTS you have with other fonts.

    > 4. Adobe still sells fonts if TypeKit as part of the subscription of the CC means the complete catalogue is free?

    A: Currently, you can always buy perpetual licenses to Adobe owned fonts as well as some other fonts that they resell. However, the software Adobe fonts and many other commercial fonts are available with a subscription to Typekit. Access to Typekit isn't really free. You pay for it when you pay for creative cloud. It's just that Typekit doesn't cost you anything more because it is included.

    > 5. How the police license issues with TypeKit? In the past, the licensing of fonts has been a major concern in the edition and still very confused on the use and purchase.

    A: This article is a good starting point: http://help.typekit.com/customer/portal/articles/1341590-typekit-font-licensing

    If you have specific questions about licensing or use cases, feel free to ask. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Automation of URLS in InDesign CS4 catalogue numbers

    Hello

    Anyone know if a script can be used to automate the creation of URLS based on catalog numbers in a document? For example, many of our data sheets, brochures, etc. have long lists of numbers of catalog on the last pages. We want to use them as links when you export as a PDF. the problem is, there is so much, he should always click on them all and create individual links.

    I read here on the forums that someone asked a similar question about using character Style sheets to content 'tag' to convert the URL. We want to do the same thing, only to add the catalog number to a static URL. For example, www.mycompany.com/catalogue/XXXX where XXXX is a catalogue number of the text that is in a certain style of character. We would then create a link by using this URL on the catalogue number in the text.

    Thank you

    I find the hyperlink feature in InDesign to be very confusing, but I think this should do what you want:

    var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var myLinkStyle = myDoc.characterStyles.itemByName("link"); // the Character style of the links
    var myURL = "http://www.mycompany.com/catalogue/"; // url of your company
    var i, myLinks, myLink, mySource, myDestination;

    for (i = myDoc.hyperlinkTextSources.length-1; i >= 0; i--){
        mySource =  myDoc.hyperlinkTextSources[i];
        if (mySource.sourceText.appliedCharacterStyle == myLinkStyle){
            mySource.remove(); // removes existing hyperlinks to avoid "double bookings"
        }
    }

    app.findGrepPreferences = null;
    app.findGrepPreferences.appliedCharacterStyle = myLinkStyle;
    myLinks = app.findGrep();

    for (i = 0; i < myLinks.length; i++){
       myLink = myLinks[i];
       mySource = myDoc.hyperlinkTextSources.add(myLink);
       myDestination = myDoc.hyperlinkURLDestinations.add(myURL + myLink.contents);
       myDoc.hyperlinks.add(mySource, myDestination);
    }

  • Confused; automatic writing turns into xmp

    I don't know what settings to use for the parameter options of catalogue concerning the registration of changes in the xmp data or not. Martin Evening says if you check then try to edit in photoshop, there need open in Camera RAW, Photoshop. I'm new to CS5 and recently had because I wanted to get items. He also says that the best option is to let the 'setting to develop the metadata in JPEG, TIFF, and PSD files include', because they may not look the same in other applications of the photo. This whole issue is confusing for me. Can anyone simplify it? I am a serious amateur and do not rely on one of my photos raw giving "customers".

    Thank you

    Jim

    Hi, Jim.

    Writing data to develop in the xmp files will not affect the way Lr & Ps work together. If you open an image in Lr in Ps using the command Ctrl + E I mentioned above, the image does not open in ACR. It opens as a copy in Ps, as you want. Whether you set your preferences to xmp it will even work.

    OK, I read this forum, downloaded psedbtool (including the excellent documentation of John Ellis) and SQLite Database Browser to correct an error "Drive_path_if_bultin." Yet, when I try to convert the catalog in PSE8, I get the error:

    The conversion operation failed. Try to repair the catalog with the software that created it and restart the conversion.

    I tried workaround John suggested for "Files of the wrong volume" error, but it seems to assume that the new catalog (for PSE8) already exists.

    Here, any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

    ZEP

    There are two problems with your catalog that are probably confused the conversion.

    1. your photos are stored in the catalog folder P:\Photo.

    2. you try to place the PSE 8 catalog converted into a subfolder of the PSE 6 catalog file:

    P:/PHOTO to P:/PHOTO / PHOTO copy P:/PHOTO

    To work around this problem, first move the files to the catalog of p: back to a folder on your C: drive, such as described in step 4 of the FAQ:

    http://www.johnrellis.com/psedbtool/photoshopelements-6-7-FAQ.htm#_Problems_converting_cat alogs

    Then, when you call the file > catalog > convert in PSE 8, before clicking on convert, select catalogs accessible by all users, and then click on convert.  This will place the catalog converted on your C drive, not in the P: subfolder.

  • Conversion of a catalogue does not work in Elements 8

    I installed first Elements 8 and Photoshop Elements 8 on my Vista 32 computer. I have 7 items and first Elements 7 installed on my pc too. I tried to convert my version 8 catalog, but it does not work. He said: "the conversion operation failed. Try to repair the catalog with the software that created it and restart conversion. "Catalogue works well in 7 elements. Can someone help me? I don't know how to get my work catalog in 8 elements.

    "copy of catalog doesn't have" an exception

    It seems that you try to place the catalog converted into a subfolder of the original catalogue:

    Original catalogue: C:/ProgramData/Adobe/Photoshop Elements / catalogs / Seijan oma kuva-album

    Catalogue of convert: C:/ProgramData/Adobe/Photoshop Elements / catalogs / Seijan AMO AMO Seijan-album/kuva kuva-album

    PSE gets very confused when you do it (and it produces a very poor error message!). To correct this:

    1. in PSE 8, file > catalog.

    2. in the Catalog Manager window, select custom location.

    3. click Browse and navigate to C:/ProgramData/Adobe/Photoshop elements/catalogs /. Click OK.  This folder should now appear under the custom location:

    4. now, click Convert to convert your original catalog.

  • Confused about the new iPhone to load

    It seems that online, there are many variations on how to charge an iPhone the first times, we don't know what to believe.

    Historically, I charge my iPhone for a day the first time that I get it or after I got a refurb from Apple. My battery life has always been fantastic, representatives of engineering apply even told to say.

    This time, I couldn't wait to load the device as I normally would. I connected my iPhone to my PC, did a restore of backup and wait for the iPhone to be able to load completely (about 30 minutes).

    Given that I had a lot of things happens, I didn't have the opportunity to "condition" of the battery, charge of the day to the next, or as some reports say that I have to load it only via the provided OEM charger (not PC). Some say that your battery die completely and then get away after the phone two hours before recharging.

    All these 'new' information is downright confusing. And yet, I see Apple suggesting as a result a large part of these 'tips '.

    Any thoughts on pricing?

    There is no requirement to 'manage' load.

    Charge at any time, for any period of time.

    You can use the phone while charging.

    Don't deplete the battery at a low level.
