CD/DVD drive is not detected, the disc is missing or disconnected

Well I have not tried to play anything or anything either burning on my laptop in a while and all of a sudden is not working more I followed suggestions on the microsoft site, but when I went into Device Manager to check on my drive anywhere it lists same CD-ROM/dvd-rom I'm so confused, I don't know what I tried to use microsoft not fixed and it's just as stuck as I am all he tells me it is than its disconnected or missing and cannot be found.

Oh and while I'm asking questions my sound stopped working a few months back the small volume in the lower right corner icon has an 'x' next to him now and he says: no audio output device is installed, I tried following the suggestions online for this with no luck either. I hope that its not anything internal since I just had the motherboard replaced by a few months before this happened

Thank you very much I hope you can help!

Hello

Well it still might be hardware or wiring.

Restart to make sure that nothing is inteferring with the process.

Step 1: Please make all underneath the same if you've done it before as it's often the total of the process which
solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are some registry entries

  • CD/DVD drive is not detected.

For some reason my CD/DVD drive is more functional.  I can't even eject the disc that is in it and it does not recognize.  I have searched for corrections and so far all I've done was to remove the filter lower and upper filters in the registry.  I'll try to uninstall and reinstall this drive, but I can't even find on device manager

Any help would be appreciated... Thank you!

Here is the solution I mentioned earlier. Good luck and thank you Greg!

I thought I had posted the solution.  The upper and lower filters need to be refreshed.  Here is a solution I found on the Adobe forums. http://kb2.Adobe.com/CPS/402/kb402306.html

Refresh the CD and DVD drivers list in the Windows registry.

Warning: The registry contains information on the system that are critical to your computer and applications. Before editing the registry, be sure to make a backup of it. Adobe does not provide support for problems that result from incorrectly modifying the registry. Adobe strongly recommends that you have experience editing system files before you modify the registry. For more information on the Windows Registry Editor, see the Windows documentation or contact Microsoft Technical Support.

To refresh the CD and DVD drivers list in the Windows registry:

Important: After you refresh the list of drivers in the Windows registry, you may need to reinstall any other CD or DVD on your computer to write applications. If you restart Windows after this procedure and other burning CD or DVD applications do not recognize the CD or DVD drive, and then reinstall those applications.

    1. Uninstall your Adobe application.
    2. Open the Registry Editor:
      • On Windows 2000 and XP: click Start > run. Type regedit in the box text open, and then click OK.
      • On Windows Vista: Click Start. Type regedit in the search text box, and then press ENTER.
    3. In the left pane of the registry editor, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class and select the {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} key, which appears as a folder.
    4. Select file > export (Windows XP and Vista) or registry > export a file from the registry (Windows 2000).
    5. In the export registry file dialog box, select the branch selected under export range, name the file (for example, CDDVDkey.reg) and click Save to save the file to the desktop.
    6. In the Panel to the right of the registry editor, select the LowerFilters line, and then choose the editing command > delete. Click Yes in the dialog box confirm deleting key.
    7. Select the UpperFilters line, and then choose the editing command > delete. Click Yes in the dialog box confirm deleting key.
    8. Close the registry editor.
    9. Open the Device Manager:
      • On Windows 2000 and XP: click Start > Control Panel. Double-click the system icon, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
      • On Windows Vista: Click Start > Control Panel, double-click System, and then click Device Manager in the task pane.
    10. Click on the symbol more then to CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives.
    11. For each listed DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive, select the icon then choose Action > uninstall.
    12. Restart Windows.
    13. Windows will automatically detect and reinstall your CD-ROM or DVD - ROM drives. You can check that the drives are installed in the device (see step 9) Manager. If the drives are not present, open Device Manager and choose Actions > Scan for hardware changes.
    14. Reinstall your Adobe application.
    15. Restart Windows.

Important: If this solution doesn't solve the problem with the application you reinstalled, then you must restore the CD and DVD drivers list in the Windows registry.

To restore the exported CD and DVD drivers list:

    1. Double-click the registry key that you exported.
    2. Close the registry editor.
    3. Restart Windows.

    Hello

Please ALL these even if you've done it before as it's often the total process that
solves the problem. You should also check with the system manufacturer as some readers do not use windows
by default the drivers and need their own, use the bottom and if no joy check on the site of the manufacturer of the system.

  • DVD drive does not detect DVD satellite 1900-303

My CD-RW/DVD drive refuses to read DVDs, acting as if there is no disc in the drive, no matter what I try. I have not used the machine regularly in a while and just starting to discover this.

It also has a problem with burning discs, if it is of no interest. I bought a lens cleaner, but it won't work because the laptop still does not recognize the disc. Also, I've never fiddled with the control of the region and have already tried reinstalling the driver, but to no avail.

    It's a S1900-303, the number of model PS192E-00G1N-EN.
Any help that anyone can give is much appreciated, it's really annoying.

    Thank you very much.

    Hello guys

First of all if there are problems with burning CD or DVD, you will need to test different CD or DVD. Not all CD or DVD is compatible and can be used in the drive.
That's why check different CD/DVD from different manufacturers.

But if the drive is not able to burn or play a CD/DVD, so I assume that the reader has a malfunction and only the replacement of the device could help.

@Judith: unit you seems to be new and the guarantee must cover replacing the drive.
But before you contact the ASP in your country, check the different media.
In the user manual a list with compatible and tested the CD and the DVD.

  • CD/DVD drive does not recognize the DVD media disc.

    Greetings,

Had problems with my CD/DVD drive not being able to recognize that a DVDmovie disc is in the drive.

I tried to turn on/off, reinstalled the driver, update the driver, check if AutoPlay is enabled (currently set to invite me) and have used the Microsoft Automated Troubleshooting system which could not solve the problem.

I am able to burn data and audio files on CD/DVD very well, it will read the same types without problems.  But whenever a DVDmovie disc is, it does not recognize, there is a disc in the drive, or Autoplay hit.

Also clean the laser lens with isopropyl alcohol.

    Thoughts?

Honestly, I had not checked immediately after I cleaned the lens, but it works now.  I am convinced that cleaning the lens resolved.

I had posted this, and then read somewhere else to clean the lens, has made, edited my post saying I had it done and then tried a DVD and it worked.

  • CD/DVD drive does not read the newspapers.

A blank 'CD' message appears when a DVD + R disc is inserted (IE a disc created images or slide show)

First of all, what version of Windows®, the edition and service pack level is your system running?

Second, to describe the material in question, please?
What is the manufacturer and model of the optical drive?
What is the manufacturer and model of your system so excited?
What is the manufacturer and model of the motherboard if it is not packed?

Finally and most importantly, please read: KB555375 - how to ask a question.

The manufacturer of the drive and the model is important because there are scanners which were manufactured until the latest optical media definitions were defined.  Many of these same readers have updated firmware that will allow them to recognize several types of media.  If your system is shipped with the disk in it, package manager can have the firmware update on their support site.  If not supplied in a system, you can go to the optical drive manufacturer support web site to search for updates to the firmware.  (Often easier said than done.  A search engine may be involved...)  There may be other material considerations, that's why we ask for the manufacturer of motherboard and model or a system.

  • DVD drive can not read some discs

So I have scowered the Internet trying to find an answer to my problem, but everyone always seems to have the same problem except theirs is slightly different so their solutions don't work for me.

My problem is that my DVD drive (f) works perfectly fine except when I put the CD - RW that I used to save files to my old Toshiba laptop, my laptop (also a Toshiba) seems to ignore my CD drive (d), but which has never really bothered before.

So my DVD player works perfectly fine for other CD or DVD that I put in, it's only the CD that I used on my old laptop. When I put one in, I can hear it trying to read the CD, then it's just a few stops, when I double click to open the drive, it just comes up with a message saying "Please insert a disc into drive F:."

The CD works perfectly well on my dads, which is also a Vista laptop so I do not understand why mine doesn't seem to like their reading.

Any help would be greatly appreciated I need the contents of the CD to my university work.

    Thank you.

  • Why my DVD player will not see the disc of Windows 7 Installation?

The TEAC DV-W58E DVD on my Dimension PC drive will play videos and games and will read and write data on DVD.

Why he won't see the Windows 7 Installation disc that has delivered today? It's the only drive, that he has never read. He don't think that the drive is empty, sees just 0 used bytes, free 0 bytes.

The drive is seen by the two other PCs but not one I want to install W7 on.

My PC runs XP Professional and the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor test and is up-to-date with Windows Update and has the latest driver for the DVD drive.

I can't install the new operating system unless I can get the PC to read the disc.

Cause the most likely not to read the DVD, is that its firmware is too old.  Double layer and encryption more recent methods are old 1 x, 2 x and 4 x dvd drives cannot read 16 x media recorded.

Windows 7 has some minimum requirements.

Windows 8 adds a lot of SPECIFIC requirements as NX Bit is supported in the BIOS.

If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:

    • 1 gigabyte (GB) of RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit), this excludes most INTEL 815 chipset

Pentium 3 systems.  512 Meg is MAX for the 815 chipset.
