CD DVD problem

After a recent upgrade Vista on my Dell XPS1330, DVD readers no longer appear in Windows Explorer, nor do they operate. They also show that problems in Device Manager. I used system restore to go to a March 13 last restore point, and then it was normal. I went back to the last update in order to have the best security, but readers of DVD (internal and external) are inoperative again.

Is there any solution for this?

In addition, it could be related? My battery icon shows "plugged in, but do not load", and the computer crashes if I unplug the power adapter. I don't know how long this condition exists, but the restoration of a restore point has not changed, she.

    Hello

You can Google DVD decoders and find several good ones. One is usually supplied with the system
    or the CD/DVD drive.

You are right that sometimes it's easier to re - install Windows however most of these CD/DVD problems
can be fixed in a step or two. Sometimes, nothing works except a re-installation.

  • Pavilion 2 detachable x: external DVD problems

    Hello

I bought a Samsung SE208 external DVDRW use the USB port on my full size tablet. It was purchased primarily for watching DVDs while working there and copy my music in iTunes.

I plugged the instructions and immediately stuck a CD that has been copied to my library without problem. So, I got a DVD to watch (flushed away if anyones interested) and its here that the problems seem to start.

With a DVD in the drive, you can see this whirring away and my Tablet produces occasional beep noise. It does not display messages and nothing on the screen indicates that the DVD will play. In Device Manager the DVD player is not. It shows as installed correctly when I managed to catch him and look in the properties, but the driver is for a CD-ROM drive only. I tried it on my laptop (6 years) and it works perfectly. The laptop is running Windows 10 too, but shows a bunch of different drivers in Device Manager.

Ideas, suggestions, new uses for it would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Rob.

I just tried the drive again and it won't play CD's. Maybe it'll work as a lead only which is useless, or ornament for me. Any suggestions?

    Hi PeerOne.

Thanks for the reply but I have VLC and it still doesn't work.

It turns out that the SE208 is announced as compatible on a certain website large companies USB3.0 is not something of the sort. With a result pretty obvious.

Needless to say that the offending article was returned and the search for an external DVD drive VFM who will work with USB 3.0 continues.

First I would recommend you to check this page for troubleshooting MS:
    https://support.Microsoft.com/en-us/...drive_problems

It fixes the problems with CD or DVD players that cannot read or write media

In addition you can uninstall/remove optical drive from Device Manager.

  • Satellite L30: Watch DVD problem - slowly and the sound is distorted

    Hello!
I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite L30-115. I use WinDVD preinstalled to watch DVD. everything was fine until yesterday. Since then, my DVD drive seems to have problems with playback of DVD movies (original).

It's a little slower that should be, and the sound is a bit distorted. The same DVD my laptop no problems to play now, it seems impossible to play properly.

I tried system recovery to date, everything was good, but that did not help.

Everything's fine, when I play movies from my hard drive, but apparently my DVD Player cannot play fair.
I tried various combinations (turn on/off digital playback in Device Manager), but nothing seems to work.

    No idea how to fix?

First of all, give it a try with cleaning the lens of your DVD player. Several times a lens dirty or CD/DVD that makes impossible to correct read causing delays.
Because the movies read from the HARD disk correctly, it does not seem to be a related problem of codec, but... you should still try to use other DVD player software to ensure that WinDVD is not the source.

I suggest you also to keep longer, to install software of reduction of CD speed during normal use of all the days of the life of your drive. As you know, the disc spins a lot faster than actually required inside the car which complicates the procedure for reading (especially on the scratched CD) and consumes more energy, too.

Reduce speed solves problems like the one you have several times. Here is a link to the Version of acoustic silencer of TOSHIBA 1.00.008 (from page of the pilot satellite L30), give it a try:

  • Tecra S2 - write on DVD problems

I have a Toshiba Tecra S2 under XP Pro SP3. He has a stack * a UJ - 831S - DVD - RW drive. I have long written files to the DVD-R and RW - simply by drag-and - drop in Windows Explorer. I've updated to SP3, a few weeks ago, and now I find that while I can read previously recorded or original DVDs and CDs without problem, I can't do anything with blank DVDs. When empty, the drive appears in my computer as a DVD RAM drive D:, but when I put in a blank DVD, it changes the description of the CD player, and when I try to access the DVD, I get the message "D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function ". As it should be for the DVD, the CD registration area is not checked in the properties of the drive.

I don't know if the problem is related to the upgrade to SP3 that I have not used the DVD player immediately before and immediately after the upgrade, but I don't have the problem three weeks before the upgrade when the last, I used the function. I used Device Manager to confirm that the most recent driver is installed for the DVD player. If I start the software Sonic RecordNow, that I can write on a DVD without problem - it is just the ability to drag-and - drop in the Windows Explorer that has been lost.

    Any help gratefully received.

  • Salellite 5205 S505 CDRW / DVD problem

    Hello
    I have a problem with a CD - RW,-he does ' t burn a cd :(
but it reads DVDs and CDs
I tried to burn a CD with Nero and got a massage with power calibration error.
Do you know how to fix it?
    Thank you

    concerning
    Keczab

    Hello

The "power calibration error" message is a problem that occurs with the latest as older CD burners. These means of error message that the CD burner cannot write in the blank CD - R, as it can t match the output power of the laser power to write the CD - R. This can have various causes.

You can try reinstalling the burning program.
If you use the Nero Burning ROM of Ahead then the first thing to do is to try to update the ASPI driver This driver is the link between the software and hardware of a CD writer. Google, a little bit on the internet and you can download the driver ASPI try also Nero and research's official website for driver ASPI It must be there for free for download.
Many manufacturers include identification of the different CD - r codes in the software in the CD burner. By these codes the CD writer can determine the maximum speed of writing to CD - R and adapt the necessary laser power. As the codes of identification on the CD - r can change and the engraver can t know anyway latest brands of CD - R, this can be a cause for the "power calibration error".

Update the firmware of the CD writer can be the solution in this case. Manufacturers usually offer these updates on their Web sites. You may also find additional tools that might be needed for the update, but also manuals on how to upgrade the firmware.
It is also possible that the laser unit has become dirty dust over time.

I hope these suggestions help you solve your problem.

    Good luck!

After installing XP Service pack2 son of college clicked on a question about activation of WinDVD 5 for Toshiba and now my DVD does not load the program. How can I fix it, remimbering I need help step by step?

WinDVD is the least of your problems: WinXP SP2 should be installed no later than October 10 2006!

If the computer running Windows XP Gold or SP1 until earlier, may not be a critical functional application of antiviruse protection installed and 3 + years of security updates have not been installed.

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows.  Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) won't fix this!

HOW to do a clean install of Windows XP: see method 1 and http://michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html#steps in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978307

Once installed the clean, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of everything on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) otherwise and before using a flash drive or the SD card that is not brand new, or has not been freshly formatted:

NB: No matter what Norton or McAfee free trial which is preinstalled on the computer when you bought will be reinstalled (but invalid) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free and download/run the removal tool before installing updates, Windows Service Packs or IE upgrades and before installing your new anti-virus application (which will require WinXP SP3 [1] needs to be installed).

    Hi Bahsohpc,

    • You have any third-party CD / DVD burning software installed on the computer? (Like Roxio or Nero).

Since the fix, it has not helped, you can follow the steps below and check if this can help struggling reading CD / DVD edition.

You can access the link below and try other steps mentioned in the article outside the race fix tool and check if it helps.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/321641

If other operations is not enough, you can try to navigate to the following location in the registry editor, delete the upper and lower filter keys filters and check if that helps.

    a. Click Start, and then to run.

    b. in the run box, type regedit, and then press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.

    (c) in the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

    d. in the pane right, look for UpperFilters and UpperFilter keys and select it.
Note You can also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You don't have to delete this entry. Click UpperFilters . If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you may still have to delete the LowerFilters registry entry.

    e. in the Edit menu, click delete.

    f. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

    g. exit from the registry editor.

    h. restart the computer.

Note: Sometimes, this problem is due to two Windows that have been corrupted registry entries. To resolve this problem, you must use the registry editor to delete the corrupted registry entries.

However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs.

For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, follow these steps in the KB Article:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/
