  The Portege is very old machine. I don't know exactly how old, but I guess it's over 15 years is not easy to find information about this old piece of hardware.

  I studied a bit and discovered that the Sat Pro 43xx series was equipped with the graphics chip S3 Savage IX.

  This site contains all the necessary drivers for Win95, Win98, Win98SE, Win XP, ME, W2k.

  I have an old book 320CDS satellite, with only 32 MB of RAM, but it still works fine with Windows95B (4.00.950.b).

  You can try to install the Win98 but on the Toshiba driver page I found only the driver for power management.
  In this case you will not be able to use the other functions of Toshiba. I put t think drivers for Win95 work on Win98 OS.

  I assume that you have just updated the OS from Win95 toWin98 but you have not clearly installed the operating system. And now you have preinstalled utilities for Win95 on the portable Win98. Am I wrong?
  I think the update installation has changed all the registry entries and is therefore not possible to remove utilities.
  To my knowledge, that you can not delete, clean utilities. The only possibility is to use the 3rd app that can do.

• Only 16 colors after formatting Satellite Pro 430cds

  I have an old satellite pro 430cds which I recently formatted to reinstall the operating system.
  I still have the original disk from toshiba which allowed me to re - install the cd-rom, but I am only able to get 16 colors the screen refuses to accept the same 256-color or higher resolution.

  I tried different things and different drivers, update bios and all have proved to be unsuccessful. The graphics card is a chips and tech supervga card and has the correct drivers, but I am getting now at the end of my same with that.
  I would like to buy a new graphics card, but I fear that the same problem would prevail.

  Am I missing something obvious and someone can help me?

  Have you used the Toshiba Recovery CD or an original cd of Microsoft windows?
  I found only the modem driver for Win95 on the European Toshiba driver page.

  On the Toshiba site we found a modem for Tecra 530CDT for Win98 driver

  You need to start your device using the Setup disc disk and after that it is necessary to install the drive of CD-ROM. Please visit http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com. Go to Support & downloads > download drivers and in this place under product type, select Archive option. Family, model and series of product should not be a problem.

  There you can fins several drivers and tools that you can use for your Tecra. It is an old machine and I didn t try to install it but I'm sure you can use any drivers for Win95. You can also try to make two partitions on the HARD disk and copy the Win98 CD on the second partition. After that starting the appliance using the Setup disc disk, go to the second partition and run the SETUP command to start the installation of the OS. I think for the second partition, you will have about 500 MB of free space.

  Try to test several options to install the operating system correctly and if there is some success let us know.

  I checked the European pilot site and since the Satellite 315 is probably identical to the satellite 310 series, you should be able to install win98/2000.

  There are drivers for Win95/98/NT (Windows 2000 architecture is like NT drivers * should * work, but without guarantee!).

  The other thing is: you have to keep in mind that performance under Win2K wouldn be very good, so it would be better to throw Win98 on the machine.
