CD Rom Compatability

I have a new system & Windows.   I bought earlier before the old broken computer CD Rom for my son learning from reading Progam.   He says its for Windows 95/98.  Is there a way I can make it work?

Assuming that "Windows &" = "Windows 7", then try this:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Make-older-programs-run-in-this-version-of-Windows .

The program is old, so there is no guarantee that you will get it to work.

All the answers and suggestions are provided by an enthusiastic amateur and are therefore no explicit or implicit guarantee. Basically, you use my suggestions at your own risk.

The CD on my old Satellite 310CDS unit is dead. The drive is a TEAC CD-220EA model. I can get a TEAC CD-224th unit used. Can someone tell me if it is likely to be compatible.

    HI,

TEAC CD224E was that the original fit CD-ROM standard in my SA30 when I bought, so there are possibilities that it will work in your laptop. However, I have not tried this particular combination of CD-ROM and portable, so cannot give you no guarantee that it will work.

original title: CD Rom compatibility with windows 7

    Hello hZL,.

There is no "generic" setting, but I wonder how old it is and if it is actually compatible with Windows 7. It seems that the problem lies in the software, not, as we thought the CD-ROM. You may need to install an application on the CD before you can actually use the CD itself. If the software is really old, then he can simply not be compatible with Windows 7 in which case you may need to upgrade the software, if this is possible, of course.

The software runs under Windows Vista? If so, it should work on Windows 7. The software works on Windows XP? If so there could be a compatibility issue with Windows 7. As a suggestion, assuming it worked on Windows XP you have tried to install the application in compatibility mode? You can access the file "setup.exe", you say? If so right click on this file and in the dropdown menu, select Properties. In the properties, click the Compatibility Mode tab, place a check in the box "run this program in compaitibilty mode for" in the box below, and then select XP (XP should already be selected, but if it isn't, click on the arrow to the right of the dialog box and select it from the list.) The software installation file should settle now.

If this does not work then you may need to contact the software manufacturer to see if they have versions of Windows 7 that you can upgrade.

  • Unable to add data to the Virgin DVD + RW double layer after having ejected backup problem.

Did a backup using DVD + R double layer, and after having ejected the last media due to clerical error, I can no longer continue the backup due to the error: insert a disc - it seems that my hardware is no longer detect dual layer blank media. Works great on regular blank media 4.7 GB.

    Hi sal69,

This problem is caused by physical limitations in DL (Double Layer) media. These limitations prevent any real use multisession. When the media is ejected, the disc session may be closed for DVD-ROM compatibility. On these discs, DVD-ROM compatibility is achieved only when the disc is complete. When the disc is finished, it is closed forever. The physical characteristics of the media require two layers will be burned so that the disc can be played in a DVD player. The two layers can be burned only by closing the disc. As soon as the disc is closed, no additional data can be added to him.

You can follow the steps mentioned in the link below

  • Satellite A200 - HD DVD ROM is not working

    Hello

Can someone give me advice what to do with my HD DVD ROM It's playback discs after departure upward but then if I don't play anything for a while (30 minutes or 1 hour) and then try to play HD DVD ROM stopped reading anything and the laptop became frozen. Sometimes it even stops with the error message.

If I restart my computer then HD DVD ROM still works but for a short time.

    What should I do?

    Kind regards

You have cd/dvd utilities in the system tray? Maybe they are causing a problem.

Try to remove the CD/DVD filters in the registry.
When the associated CD/DVD (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), the software is installed, they install filters in the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.

    (1) run Regedit (start-> Run-> Regedit)
    2) navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
    (3) in the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key and delete the key "LowerFilters".
    (4) restart.

If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).

This utility can remove the filters for you:

  • Tecra A9 - compatibility/AHCI in the BIOS mode

The Toshiba Tecra A9 seems to have a serious lack of implementation of the BIOS: it has an Intel ICH8 - M - SATA controller capable of running in Intels so-called "handset Mode" that allows it to act as a controller SATA AHCI, a normal IDE controller or mix the two for various channels.
The BIOS allows to adjust it to the "compatibility" - mode that seems to work correctly by running in the IDE for all channels mode, but the mode "AHCI" seems to be set up wrongly. AHCI is a standard for SATA devices that is widely used and the Tecra A9 defines only the hard disk to use SATA AHCI - optical drive CD/DVD-ROM rest in IDE mode which leads to conflicts of pilots as only one driver can access the controller in DMA mode - when the value of both SATA and IDE modes, two drivers are needed for one physical chip.
'AHCI' in the BIOS must activate the peripheral subject connected to the controller is running in SATA AHCI mode, but as I already said, it is not. Only the hard drive will be displayed as SATA device.

For me, this looks like a defect in the BIOS that needs to be repaired.

    Best regards
    Peter

    Hello

I think that it s perhaps a default, but you done already encountered problems with the execution of the "compatibility mode" where the CD/DVD drive (IDE ;)) works in "IDE mode"?

Do you have a few mistakes or something similar? If so, then it s probably REALLY a bug, but if not, maybe this 'combined mode' (I know what you´re talking about my old 875P Chipset and my ICH5 have the same thing) works correctly.
In my machine (desktop computer with a DFI Lanparty 875P and northwood at 3 Ghz) runs in the "handset mode" so that everything works to make it compatible in "IDE" mode But I Don t a loss of performance.
It s not as fast when I drive in pure SATA mode, but then my DVD won't work.

So, if you have problems with the machine then I agree, otherwise "it s not a bug, it s a feature" ;)

    Welcome them

  • Can't burn on a DVD + RW with DVD - ROM SD-R2102

    Hello
I have a Satellite of 6000 Pro with XP. My cd - dvd drive is dvd - rom SD-R2102. I can read and burn CDs, I can read DVD & divxx but I can't burn it to a DVD + RW. Apparently, the cd is not recognized.

    Can someone help me?

    Thank you
    Damien

    Hi guys

    First of all @Ken Roots:
Why you suggest you have the same problem, but when I compare the two messages so I put t see similar problems!

    Now @castor:
In the manual, you should find the media (CD/DVD) that are compatible with your player.
I found some info on the SD-R2102 and it seems that this car doesn t support the DVD + RW!
    http://www.Toshiba-Europe.com/storage/PFT.asp?page=pft&NAV=ISH_PRS&model=SDR2102&PTYPE=C OMBOSL

Why you n t check compatibility first! Sorry, but I don't understand the people who write about problems and finally there is no problem.

  • Satellite M - DVD/CD ROM missing in my device manager

My computer for some reason unknown to me, recognize or load content on any DVD or CD that I put in my combo drive. The disc turns and acts like it is loading, but nothing happens. I want to switch from XP to Vista. whether a disk of music or a dvd movie disc, it always does the same thing. I have a satellite M45-S2652. I tried the registration procedure and nothing has changed. Before that, when I clicked in my device manager and everything was ok, he read "(MAT *** un DVD) RAM UJ - 831 S."

I tried to use my windows recovery disk, but the computer does not recognize it. I tried the restore later, when I clicked in my device manager, under DVD ROM, I saw a bunch of script gibberish with a yellow exclamation point, but the same thing was happening. Y at - it someone who had that same kind of experience and solved. Will you please help me to solve my problem. I want to upgrade to Vista.

    Thank you.

  • M30-704: compatible DVD - ROM readers?

the multidrive on my model m30 704 went to heaven of discs and I need to get a new optical drive. broken drive is a Matsu * a multidrive UJ-811.

which drives are compatible with my camera? What are the issues that I have to look? should I get a disk the same brand, or can I change the brand?

In addition, I don't need the full DVD burning / package DVD RAM - would be possible to 'downgrade' the reader and opt for a cheaper option, say with only the capabilities of DVD playback? [to the United Kingdom, so region 1 discs come out].

I'm very confused by all this and would appreciate greatly any help at all.

    Hello

If you want to buy a new disk, you must check the compatibility because not just any player is supported as a result of the assignment of pins.
Unfortunately I put t found all readers outside Matsu * a UJ-811, but I m sure it is possible to buy only a DVD ROM without the option of engraving.
In my opinion, you should ask the service partner for the supported CD/DVD drive.
In addition, you can change the DVD region four times without any problem. Please check this option in the properties of the drive.

    Good bye

  • Satellite L750-11W - DVD rom doesn't read any DVD

    The problem is very annoying, that the dvd rom is not reading my dvd;

I tried to install a game on a dvd but it doen't want to read it, I have, but another dvd (different game) and it read; the two DVD works on other laptops (I checked)

DVDs are not made by me, they are purchased in the store

any ideas on what's going on? I reinstalled the driver but nothing

    I use w7 ultimate x 64

I found your other son that you posted some time there is failure of CD/DVD drive.
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=72663

My idea was to clean the laser lens, but has already been suggested in other threads as well.

In my opinion, there is not much to do sometimes firmware could be updated to improve the compatibility between the different discs, but this is possible only in case these packages would be available.
I checked the page of the Toshiba UE driver and firmware update is not available for the series L750.
So I guess that your problem is related to the WEIRD malfunction.

  • Satellite 1800-314-replacement of the CD-ROM disc

We have an old Toshiba Satellite 1800-314 the CD-ROM drive appears to be failing - it often will not recognize a CD, or run the applications of one.

First of all, the CD-ROM drive is not removable, so the laptop must be open. I'm familiar enough with opening, laptops, but in a hardware store or repair is not currently available, I thought I would ask if there is something to know, such as coins out of condition precedent, when I open the case?

I would also like to take this opportunity to replace the old CD with a DVD - ROM drive. But I read that there is a problem with a possible conflict of IDE bus:
[REPLACE CD-ROM DRIVE WITH DVD OF TOSHIBA SATELLITE 1800-314 | http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/page-28372_20_0.html] (Their caps, not mine ;))

Apart from "shorting pin 45 and 47" on the connector, there are other suggestions?

The laptop belongs to my little girl, who will give me + hell + if it is out of use for too long, or worse, break... X (so I would like to correct it at once.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

The fact is that each optical disc drive cannot be used on every laptop. you are right and there is nothing other than the compatibility issue. The assignment of pins is the same for all readers and ratings and because of this, you must use compatible discs only.

The good thing is that Toshiba has listed 6-disc compatible optical disc that can be used with this old Satellite notebook.
All of them are listed in the paper manuals user s. check it out.

    Hello

As much as I know there is no public information about it. In my opinion, you should try to pick up some information of service partners. I'm pretty sure that can give you correct information.

You can also try with the external solution but the problem is that your camera has just USB 1.1 and data transfer will be very fast.
