  Hi, I hope someone can help me to solve this problem, because it drives me crazy. I have Dell Inspiron 4500 which HDD is running out of space. There was also a problem with the disc essentially installed 2 new 1 x 120 GB Maxtor hard drives and 1 x 320 GB Hitachi. I installed Windows XP Home Edition on the Maxtor from scratch and load all the drivers and patches, etc... However whenever I try to put in place the Hitachi under NTFS, it falls on the formatting. If I use third-party tools all right until you try to access it through windows, then I get "cannot access the disk, the files are corrupted or damaged. In windows Disk Manager, you can see the drive, but the file system is empty. I can take out the drive and set up on my other machine without problem. I can set up the correct disk in FAT32? If I then try to CONVERT, switch again.

  Thank you for your message.  You have the jumpers physics master/slave accordingly?  Otherwise, the value OS hard drive (Maxtor) to the master and your Hitachi to the slave.  After a reboot, your system recognizes this drive in 'my computer '?  If so, can you right click and format the drive?  (Keep in mind, the formatting will erase all data on the disk, you will need to back up any important information before formatting).  If you cannot access or recognize this drive:
  Click 'Start' > right click on 'My computer' > select 'manage '.
  Click on "disk management".
  Do you think your player, you can get in shape from here (or assign a drive letter if it is not recognized in my computer)?

  In January of this year my computer would freeze, or be very slow in its normal operation. This happened constantly.   OK, I know that this may be simple for most, but I have an of a moment _ this find.  As I said legal copy that has been saved... I backed up all my files on DVD, I don't care if I lose all the programs that I can always download them later.  Basically I want is that it was when I brought home the first time.  I searched high and low for the original disc of Vista but no luck.  I do not have people upgrade at any time, but I was not able to find a definitive answer about it online.  Not too complicate it again but I have 4 GB of ram and processor can run 64-bit, and I have 32-bit curently I'm sure you know where I'm going with that.  I know a little about how to do it, but want reasurance and direction from someone who knows hit safe and ready to help.  Any person who get end to this nightmare for me will be really appreciated.

  Contact the manufacturer to obtain a set of recovery discs original (for a fee) and use them to make the initial installation.  Activate it.  Then you can do the upgrade and activate that.  You must install the original operating system in order to install the upgrade.  If you are going from 32 bits to 64 bits that cannot be done with an upgrade - which requires complete and clean installation.

  Thanks for posting. The XP CD that the system is referring to is your XP (maybe not the reinstallation CD) installation CD.  I would test of the first reinstallation CD to see if it has components which seeks the system. If it isn't you need to contact your manufacturer and get a CD of the OS on their part.

  1. did uninstall you the USB ports on the Device Manager and reinstalled as mentioned in the previous post?

  Please see the following thread link:

  Uninstall all USB device manager entries and check.

  a. Click Start and typedevmgmt.msc and then click OK. Device Manager opens.

  b. expand Bus USB controllers.

  Note: You will need to scroll down to find this point.

  c. the first USB controller under Bus USB controllers right click and then click on uninstall to remove it.

  d. Repeat steps above for each controller USB is listed under Bus USB controllers.

  e. restart the computer. After the computer starts, Windows will automatically check for changes on the hardware and reinstall all USB controllers that you uninstalled.

  f. check the USB device to see if it works
