  If you are not accustomed to using the "Request to activate" feature with any of your plugins, here's what to expect:

  Don't like the "tabs on top"? You can change this to display the tabs below the toolbars, for example, one of the following:

  • Using the Firefox button: click on the Firefox button > Options, click on "Tabs at the top" to remove the check mark (checked = on, unchecked = off)
  • Using the Menu bar: click on view > toolbars, click "Tabs at the top" to remove the check mark
  • Hold DOWN the ALT key while pressing keyboard letters ATV (removes / places the checkbox for "Tabs at the top" without having to open a dialog box)

  The MS Installer Cleanup Utility is available at http://majorgeeks.com/Windows_Installer_CleanUp_Utility_d4459.html , that it is a safe to download site from.  Based on warnings from Microsoft on the cleanup utility, however, you might well advised to make a backup disk image or at least a backup of the registry before using it.  C:\WINDOWS\ERUNT is an easy to use free registry backup tool.

  We are porting a huge CRUD type application that leverages many pop-up windows to enter the part 'detail' of relations master / detail. Cannot change design - need to keep the windows pop up, or at least something that "looks like" a popup to the end user. These popups of detail were usually several ComboBoxes which must be dynamically from a database. If I enter the data service to load these items in drop-down list in each respective popup, there is a noticeable delay to the user final pop up while initializes. It's ok, once (the first time), but not all the time they're trying to change a detail record. We found the start of loading data into the parent ComboBox and then passing a reference to the popup. That works, but it makes the parent component inflated by a code that is actually in the context menu, and then must duplicate code on any screen requiring this popup. And there are dozens of these popups on every screen. What are my options? I need basically initialize a child window (have the busy ComboBoxes) no matter how many times the user opens and closes. I use TitleWindows to these popups for the moment. Thanks for all the ideas.

  We went with the concept of "list manager", by creating a class that encapsulates all the data required by each ComboBox in the system recoveries. These are loaded sloths, in the sense that, if a screen needs, say, list A, B and C, this form shall submit these requests to a queue in the ListManager. When all the data list are extracted from the database (they may already be there from a previous call), the ListManager fires an event and the caller know that the data is ready. Serialization is important because Combos must come before setting the value to display. The ListManager contains only data, like ArrayCollections converted from XML and is used as a singleton. The ArrayCollections are accessible to any screen that needs to get a drop-down list box.

  Yes, you will need to purchase a full version of Windows 7.

  You can go two routes:

  1. a full OEM version that will be good for this PC

  It will cost you less than a full retail version, but once again, once you install it on that PC you will not be able to transfer.

  2. a commercial version that you can remove from this PC and transfer it to any other PC you want.

  W7 Home Premium will be less expensive than W7 Pro or Ultimate for OEM versions complete or full retail.
