Change of card wireless in the Satellite L630

Hello

I recently bought a Satellite L630, which has a Realtek 8172 (or possibly a 8191SE;) I can't say the PCI ID) wireless chipset.
I installed a 64 bit version of Linux on it and there seems to be a total lack of support of the drivers for the wireless card.
The Realtek driver only a binary blob and blocks my entire system when I try to load it.

I have a card Intel 4965AGN Minipci wireless lying around that I know works very well under Linux, and I want to spend this card wireless with the Realtek card if possible. First of all, I need a few questions answered:

1. the Satellite L630 use a miniPCI wireless card slot?
2. about the motherboard location wireless card? (I can't find all the L630 anywhere internal diagrams)
3. If I do this, it void my warranty?

Thanks for your help!
Nick

> 1. The Satellite L630 use a miniPCI wireless card slot?
Yes, the L630 and other new age Toshiba laptops support slot for WLan miniPCI card.

> 2. About where on the motherboard the wireless card is it located? (I can't find all the L630 anywhere internal diagrams)
I think the Bay of WLan is placed at the bottom of the unit.
To my knowledge it s secured with a screw.

> 3. If I do this, it void my warranty?
Yes, I think so.

I don't know the reason behind this, however, whatever the reason, it is totally unacceptable.

I'm a fan of HP and I always recommend my fds HP and they trust in me and buy HP laptops that I am the head of the spirit of my circle.

You can also use usb adaptors as well for the wireless, it doesn't have to be an internal card. But you can be upset by a manufacturer to support only the card with which he delivered. These aren't desktop computers.

What wifi card can I use with it.

    Hello

As far as I know the laptop supports a Wlan miniPCI slot.
So in this case, you should be able to use miniPCI WLan card that supports the 802. 11b standard Wlan.

For example Wireless LAN Mini PCI card (2, 4 GHz, 802 11 b) PA3212U-3MPC should be compatible!

  • Wireless on the Satellite Pro L500 - 1 4 issues

    Dear support,

I have a Toshiba L500 - 1 4 which has been lowered to Windows XP SP3. As standard, it came with a wireless adapter Realtek RTL8191SE, however despite the driver updates, it was extremely difficult to connect to wireless networks.

I saw the same or similar problems with other models of Toshiba and upgrade to an Intel wireless card corrected the problem.

I tried to improve this laptop with an Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6200 and Intel Pro 3945 wireless card. In both cases the orange LED downstairs to the left of the laptop does not illuminate when the laptop computer of messages, however with the Realtek RTL8191SE for this.

When you log on Windows XP, cards both Intel Centrino Advanced - N 6200 wireless Intel 3945 Pro will appear in the Windows Device Manager correctly (once the drivers are installed), but I can get no network at all. I tried the drivers from the Intel website and the Toshiba, it makes no difference.

I've updated to the latest version of the BIOS 2.10 successfully and I tried also to the black and white wireless adapter cables. Yet once this makes no difference. If I re - insert and install the Realtek RTL8191SE, orange LED wireless adapter appears in the POST and I can at least browse wireless networks.

The BIOS has active wireless and pressing FN + F8 in Windows with the Intel does not work. When I try FN + F8 with the Realtek card it does not work.

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Just FYI: here's a forum for user to user means you can talk to normal people like you and me so Don t expect official support from Tohsiba. ;)

Regarding your problem: I put t understand why you made an update of the WLAN card. I never saw similar topics here where Exchange the WLAN card solves these problems.

In my opinion the WLAN new cards are not compatible and I would setup the Realtek card again. The latest Toshiba pre-tested WLAN driver can be downloaded here:

  • Question about WPA with lan card wireless in a Satellite Pro 6100

    Hello world

I wish toshiba Australia had a cool site like this... It's fantastic.

In any case, I just buy a kit (PA3189U-1MPC) wireless lan card for my laptop and network connection problems wireless of the University. The tech guy he says I need to have installed a wpa driver, and then I would be set for the use of bandwidth United.

Anyone know where I can get a newish driver? I can't find anything anywhere...

    Thanks for any help,

    Jonno

    Hello

First of all, it is very nice to read you like this forum. ;)

So my friend from Australia, at first I must say that you use right and compatible WLAN card on your older laptop, but now I have to disappoint you. According to the specification, it is not possible to use WPA encryption with this card.

Really, I don't think you can solve it with the new driver. I have newer computer Tecra laptop and I've tried everything but to no avail. Best solution for you is to use external USB WLAN stick. It will be much better for you. Initially, you can use WPA encryption and with the new card, you can use faster standard G and download speed will be much faster as with integrated WLAN card.

Maybe you should think about it.

    Bye and good luck!

    Hello

As far as I know that the wireless card is optional on this unit. This means that you can upgrade your laptop computer with the Mini-PCI Wireless card that you can put in the slot wireless.

    You can use these maps:
    Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card (2, 4 GHz, 802. 11a / b) PA3273U-1MPC
    Wireless LAN Mini PCI Card (2, 4 GHz, 802 11 b) PA3212U-1MPC

  • How to use card NVIDIA on the Satellite P875-321?

    Hello

I have a Satellite P875-321 with operating system factory upgraded to Windows 8.1, all the latest drivers installed.
Whatever I do, it seems built in graphics card is used only (Intel HD 4000) and the Nvidia GT640M is never used.

    I check this:
    1. with the NVIDIA Control Panel (PhysX configuration shows that all screens are connected to the Intel HD 4000
    2. in resolution 8.1 windows settings / special settings lead me to the Intel HD 4000 properties, which indicates that this card is active

    What I tried:
1 leaving everything default and use the external power supply (hoping that the computer automatically switch to NVIDIA when the external power
    2. use control panel NVIDIA and NVIDIA 3D as favorite graphics card settings

How can I force my laptop to use a NVIDIA graphics card?

    Thank you
    Janos

    Hello

The Intel graphics chip, which is part of the central unit should be used for low performance applications, because it allows you to save energy and reduce the internal temperature.

But to get best performance all in game, it s advisable to use the external GPU (nVidia or AMD)
This setting can be changed in the nVidia control panel s

Here, you should choose manage them 3D settings (can be found on the left in the nVidia control panel)

Now in the main window, you will find two global settings and program parameters tabs
In the program settings tab, select the (game) program that needs to use the nVIdia GPU

If it is not listed, click the Add button
Then choose the graphic processor preferred for this program (generally must be nVidia processor high performance)

Last but no less, in this program-specific settings, you can assign additional features to improve performance.

Subsequent disassembly the case. I need to remove the keyboard, but how?

    2. has someone already done and has had experiences?

Thanks in advance for an answer.

    Hello

You want to disassemble the laptop?
I think that he of known to you that this will affect the guarantee, you will lose the warranty and in addition, it would be possible that the new Wlan module will not work
    Why? Because of the BIOS.

The point is, it might be possible that the new Wlan module would not fully compatible and only in don't would not supported and recognized by the BIOS.

Moreover I don't very well if the Wlan module is placed under the m keyboard.
Various models support different hardware architecture, and in many cases the bottom cover must be removed to gain access to the other pieces of equipment.

But as I have already said: this would negate the validity of the guarantee.

I would recommend you chose another solution: If you want to use another Wlan card, why you n t use a USB WiFi dongle? This dongle is the best option if it is to use a different standard WLan in addition you won't get any problems with BIOS support and would not lose the warranty.
