change user creates black screen

When I try to switch users on Windows Vista, the screen goes black and the only thing I can do is turn the computer off.  Then when you turn it back on it, it says: Windows does not stop correctly.  Do you know what is the problem?

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2 on an Acer Extensa 4420.  I had problems with my laptop screen.  Whenever we try to change user or shut down the computer, the laptop screen does not illuminate.  I tried something I read on the internet, where you remove the battery and unplug the unit and then put the back and reboot and it worked for awhile but is less consistent.

I am currently using the computer with an external monitor connected.  I downloaded the latest driver for my graphics card and that didn't make a difference.

  • After using a third party partition manager program left to extend my Windows 8 partition, the system of Windows 8 start to a black screen and Windows 8 partition of the drive letter has changed

Original title: problems of Windows 8

I have Windows 7 (32 bit) and Windows 8 (64-bit) is installed in a dual boot. I tried to extend the partition of Windows 8 with a third party partition manager. Subsequently, I restarted after having learned so much.

Later, the first thing I saw was that the locked screen image is replaced by a blue color. Photos of the user are also missing. Once connected, it took a long time for windows everything ready, and I'm stuck in a black screen with the mouse pointer.

I entered in Safe Mode and found that the drive for Windows 8 letter has been changed (C: = Windows 7;) D: = recovery partition; E: = Windows 8, new drive letter; F: = Windows 8, old drive letter), I tried to change the drive letter, but it does not work.

Partition of Windows 7 works well (it is what I currently use to put this problem), and I can access the data in the partition of Windows 8. I tried the methods of different repair without result (such as chkdsk and sfc/scannow).

Can someone help me with this please? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hello

I understand that you have a problem of black screen with Windows 8 and the drive letter for the partition of Windows 8 is also changed. This problem is due to the use of the third party partition manager program because it affects the registry files and causes the instability of the system.

Try to run auto repair from the Windows recovery environment and check if that helps.

Method 1: start the recovery environment with installation of Windows 8 media.

It is another way to boot the PC and launch recovery tools when something goes wrong with the operating system.

Please follow the steps below. Insert the DVD to install Windows 8 on DVD-ROM and restart your computer.

    (a) once you start your computer by using the Windows DVD or the system repair disc, a black screen is displayed with the gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press a button on any.

    (b) select the good time and the type of keyboard .

    (c) click on repair your computer in the lower left corner.

    (d) select Troubleshooting to Choose an option screen.

    (e) click on advanced options in Troubleshooting screen.

    (f) click Auto repair of Advanced Options screen.

    (g) following, choose the operating system by clicking on its button.

    (h) Windows 8 will be looking for problems on the hard drives and verify that all required files are intact.

Method 2: Run the restoration of the system of the Advanced Options screen.

System Restore to restore your computer to a previous state, quickly and easily without losing any of your files and personal settings. Sometimes when you install programs or drivers, they can affect some system settings and prevent other programs to function properly. You can use system restore to restore these settings to their previous state

    Follow these steps:

    (a) once you start your computer by using the Windows DVD or the system repair disc, a black screen is displayed with the gray text "Press any key to boot from CD or DVD". Press a button on any.

    (b) select the good time and the type of keyboard .

    (c) click on repair your computer in the lower left corner.

    (d) select Troubleshooting from the Choose an option screen.

    (e) click on advanced options in Troubleshooting screen.

    (f) select System restore.

After the system restore your documents and files will always remain to their previous state.

If you do not install Windows 8 media, I suggest you connect to any other computer and create a floppy disk to install Windows 8. Using this disk, you can run the troubleshooting provided methods.

How to create the installation media for a PC refresh or reset:

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/create-reset-refresh-media

You can also try the same steps using the bootable USB key. You must select USB as the first boot to the BIOS device.

Note: Microsoft don't recommend any third-party partition manager program because it corrupts the registry files and cause the instability of the system.

Write to us if you're still having problems. We will help you.

  • Black screen in firefox... now also no user profile

    Hello

So, I got the same problem as: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1025438

The problem is, I have reset my firefox... which resulted in making the issue worse. I still have a black screen, but now when I open firefox there is also no profile and I get a "missing profile" box which is entirely black.

If I hold the SHIFT key and click on the firefox icon, I get "unable to load your Firefox profile. It may be missing or inaccessible.
If I try to create a profile of firefox, I get a black box of firefox.

For the record, before attempting to reset firefox, I managed to get a startup "set." How I tried to reset option, not realizing that this option would completely ruin my ability to start firefox.

Then, I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox... but the still, black window, no profile.
And now, I don't have the ability to access firefox because of the windows are blacked out.

Reflections on how to access my return to firefox?
I have the "old data firefox' reset folder.
    Thanks in advance,

Oops, what a mess. We will try to copy your old profile in place folder and see if Firefox is still looking for that one. If Firefox does not find this one, we must change a Firefox configuration file point to him.

Go ahead and open these two folders:

    (1) the old data of Firefox

    (2) your Firefox profiles folder. For quicker access to this file, you can type or paste the following text in the start search box menu (and press enter) or in the address bar in a window of Windows Explorer:

    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Then, copy your previous profile from #1 to #2 folder (for example, right-click > copy #1 and right click > paste to #2). Leave these two windows open for now (it is good to minimize their).

Try to start Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the SHIFT key when you start Firefox. If you get the Security Mode/Reset dialog box, click start mode safe and I hope that all goes well and you can proceed to disable hardware acceleration.

If you still get an error of missing profile:

In the #1 window, type or paste this into the address bar and press ENTER:

    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox

In this folder, you should see a file called profiles.ini. If Windows hides the extension .ini, you can display it. See this Microsoft article on measures for this: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hide-file-name-extensions

Right click > edit the file profiles.ini and it should open in Notepad. You should see something like the following:

    [General]
    StartWithLastProfile=1

    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=Profiles/asdf1234.default
    Default=1

The part of the path after profiles / must match the name of the folder you pasted in the #2 window. If that doesn't fit, go ahead and change it to match and save the changes. Then try to start Firefox in Safe Mode, once more. You can get?

  • Changes settings of the BIOS - black screen boot. [TravelMate P453-M]

    Laptop still under warranty.

I recently had a motherboard and replace the HARD drive.

I wanted to install Windows Me, but the BIOS has been defined in the UEFI, and I couldn't start on a USB key.

So I turned on the heritage, booted from the USB and installed Windows very well.

For some stupid reason, I went back to try to change the setting in the UEFI.

Now the laptop turns on, but won't start. I get a black screen, no logo or any what guest to access the BIOS.

I read a little and seems that I have to remove the BIOS battery, let the memory itself to reset the default BIOS settings and try again clear?

    If it's important, I re-installed Windows 7 64 bit.

    Any help would be appreciated!

Ah, I've solved the problem! Created a boot UEFI active USB key with a GPT partition, using the software of Rufus. And it started from it very well.

  • Black screen when closing and activating/deactivating my admin user account - Vista Business 32 bit

    Hello

I just formatted and reinstalled Vista Business, I noticed a slow anomaly at the start of my laptop, when my user account on my admin account (I have a black screen for 5 sec). On the contrary, my Admin on my user account, this can take up to 15 sec. During this time of waiting, I have only a black screen (no dekstop).

1 KSOD (not sure it is) during startup, slow to start (in my case, windows logon and the user interface with 'Welcome' appeared)
2 KSOD by logging into my account (before appearing the dekstop)
3 KSOD when my account is closed
4 KSOD when I change to another account, that is to say, of the user account to the account admin (KSOD for more than 15 sec)

Programs at startup: no Autoruns, Rollback Rx, Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (my graphics driver), Hitman Pro

    Thanks for your help!

    Hello Ramaflore,

If I understand correctly, you saw this black screen problem before a format.  After format and reinstall Windows, you still see the behavior of the black screen.

    This means two things:

    1. There is a program that was previously installed and has been reinstalled and that is the cause.
    2. The hardware is at fault.

We will perform a clean boot to remove all third-party software startup that can interfere with the normal operation of the machine:

Secondly, I would recommend running the diagnostics of equipment provided by your manufacturer.

    clint341,
Thanks for posting on the Microsoft Answers forum.  We cannot guide you more precisely by changing the BIOS settings that the BIOS settings are specific to your motherboard.  However, most (if not all) parameters of the BIOS have an option to restore the default BIOS (sometimes called "default opitimized").  It may be an option in the menu that you highlight, then press enter or it can be assigned to an F key and States at the bottom of the screen, press F? for the default settings.  I hope this helps.  If you are still not able to reset, check with the manufacturer of PC for more information about the BIOS. • How can I create a shortcut to "change user" on the desktop using rundll32.exe in Vista Home Premium?

I am trying to create the shortcut to "change user" using rundll32.exewithout to create the shortcut to "lock", only to pass the user. I already know that I have to right click on an empty space on the desktop, press New\Shortcut and type%windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,but not after the comma. Type so I can only create the shortcut to "change user" and not the shortcut to 'lock '? (This means that I don't want this: %windir%\System32\rundll32.exe user32.dll, LockWorkStation, with LockWorkStation after him.)

Unfortunately, it can be done in your version of Vista (or so they say, hang on a moment.)  I found the article according to that cllaims to do in Vista Basic and Vista Home Premium in addint a file and shows a set of procedures.  As it is a 3rd party file, do so at your own risk. http://www.vistarevisited.com/2008/08/02/create-a-desktop-shortcut-to-switch-users-in-vista/.  NOTE: This is not how you suggested higher, but if it works who cares?

In case you don't want to consider the solution above, you have refused, here is the procedure (how to do it in other versions of Vista):http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/136969-switch-user-desktop-shortcut.html.

    I hope this helps.

As often occurs when the wrong VGA driver is installed.  This occurs when the view Agent is installed on the desktop, and then the VMware Tools is updated after the fact.  The result is the driver included with the Agent to view VGA is replaced with the VGA driver in VMware Tools.  You can see some advantages to the relocation of the Agent of the view, or update the VMware Tools and then install the Agent from the view.
