Changing from Vista to Windows 7

Nice day
My question is very simple, I'm one of the many dissatisfied customers who stuck with windows Vista. My question is for people who has fooled in buying windows vista, they will have reduction if they purchase Windows 7.  I think it's just that I didn't have the choice when I bought my laptop and I was stuck with Vista.  Microsoft will step up and show the customer loyalty, or should I look at just to buy a MAC?

Would really like a response on that.

I'm sorry, but there is no discount for you unless you're in the qualification of the following categories:

How does the Windows 7 upgrade Option?

The Windows 7 upgrade Option is available through participating PC manufacturers on some PC and Microsoft on any purchase of packaged product Windows Vista. The Windows 7 upgrade Option applies to Windows Vista Home Premium, Business and Ultimate editions. Your upgrade to Windows 7 will be the comparable version: so you will get either Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional (upgrade to Windows Vista Business) or Windows 7 Ultimate, respectively. The Windows 7 upgrade Option program works on June 26, 2009 through January 31, 2010. Some manufacturers may choose to shorten the time of upgrade Option.

I want to change my OS from Vista to Windows XP Home on my Satellite A200... once I downloaded the complete drivers compatible with XP I updated my version of BIOS to be compatible, then when I started the formatting procedure I've countered a problem when I want to choose the format of the hard drive... which is "no hard drive drivers were found.

If anyone can help please :) Thank you.

    Hello

The problem is that you must install the SATA driver (among others) in the XP operating system!
You will use the FDD USB external (floppy) drive or you will create a new Win XP CD using the freeware tool called nLite (google for nLite get details).

In addition, after the installation of the SATA driver you shouldn't t format the HARD drive because it would wipe out the SATA driver and the HARD drive will not be recognized!

  • Copy the Contacts from Vista to Windows 7 Contacts Possible?

I have a new desktop under Windows 7 Home Premium. Before the death of my old desktop (Vista 32 Home Premium), I was able to copy my Contacts folder to a backup drive. Is Vista comes in contact with the same type of file as Windows 7 contacts? Is it possible to copy contacts from Vista to Windows 7 contacts folder? If this is not the case, how would I go about importing the contacts? Thank you!

    Hi Fallstar,

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site.

You can import the information book or contact address of several formats used by other programs, convert them for use in this version of Windows and store them in your Contacts folder. You can also convert your contacts to other formats by exporting. Allows you to share them with people who use an earlier version of Windows or a different operating system.

However, you must download Windows Live Mail in order to perform the steps listed in method 1. To download windows live mail on windows 7 click on the link below.

    Windows Live Mail

    http://www.Microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=56883de5-2024-4631-806e-757693072a1c#requirements

After installing windows live mail follow method 1.

    Method 1:

Follow the steps mentioned below to import contacts.

    1. open Windows Contacts by clicking on the button start then on your user name. Type of contacts in the address bar and press ENTER.

    2. on the toolbar, click Import, and then click one of the following formats to import contacts from:

o CSV (Comma Separated Values). It is a format of generic file used to export and import information to and from databases or spreadsheets. If you can't import an address book file directly into Windows Contacts, try everything first convert to a CSV file and then import this file.

o LDIF (LDAP server). This format is used to import information from LDAP directory servers directory.

o vCard (VCF file). This is the most widely used contacts format.

o the Windows address book file (Outlook Express contacts). This format (.wab file) is used by most earlier versions of Windows, including Windows XP.

    3. click on import, locate the contacts file you want to import, and then click Open. The new contacts should appear in your Contacts folder.

If you can't find the contacts file you want to import, see the documentation provided with the program that created the contacts or visit the manufacturer's website. You will need to export contacts from the program before you can import them into Windows Contacts.

    4. when a message appears telling you that the contacts import process has completed, click OK and then click Close.

For more information, see the article mentioned below.

Import, export, or change the format for contacts

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/import-export-or-change-the-format-for-contacts

    Or follow method 2.

    Method 2:

    1. in Vista, navigate to the folder C:\Users\(user name) \Contacts , and then copy all your contacts and groups of contacts to something (ex: DVD, USB drive, etc.) to copy in Windows 7.

(2 in Windows 7, copy the Vista contacts and groups of contacts in the folder C:\Users\(user name) \Contacts .

    Hope this information is useful.

    Thanks and regards.

  • TS-l663b cd/dvd "device cannot start code 10" after uppgrade from vista to windows 7 home

    Compaq CQ60-216DX

Hi, I've updated from Vista to Windows 7 Home, and now the CD player is missing and displays an error code "10" DEVICE cannot NOT START, under Device Manager.

Looked for the drivers updated on the HP Support, there is none for CD player.

    Cannot back driver, grayed out.

Restore opportunity to go back 2 months and still no progress. Installed software recently withdrawn from the HP (C5280) printer as well.

Immediately after the upgrade, the CD player worked fine. Same load of music in iTunes.

I am at a loss. Any ideas?

    Thank you

Paul, thanks for the quick response!

Although the tool automated fix - It did not tour, the link you provided, was told in the right direction.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314060#win7fix

It seems that it is a well known problem of incompatibility between the TS-L663B with the Windows 7 upgrade.

I just had to read the Let Me Fix It Myself solution because that relates to Windows7 and change the registry.

    Thanks again,

  • After the OS from Vista to Windows 7 upgrade, lost bookmarks. Could they be somewhere in "windows.old"?

    Hello

I upgraded my OS from Vista to Windows 7 and lost bookmarks, I had in Firefox. Back up my documents files and they are OK. Unfortunately, I don't think to back up my Firefox bookmarks.html file.

However, I did the upgrade of the operating system from the disk and a "windows.old" folder has been created which seems to have a lot of my old files, applications, and others, but I can't find "bookmarks.html" in the firefox folder or in my user folder.

Is there another place in windows.old where bookmarks could be, or a different file name, it may be under?

Please help, there are a few important bookmarks that I lost and which were accumulated over several years.

    Thank you!

Firefox has not used the file bookmarks.html for storage of bookmark since the release of Firefox 2. You need a JSON bookmark backup file or the file places.sqlite. See this:

    http://support.Mozilla.com/en-us/KB/recovering+important+data+from+an+old+profile

Your old profile is located here in Windows Vista and Win7:

    drive: \Users\Windows login user name\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\profile_name

You may need to display 'files and hidden folders' in Win7 to be able to access the Firefox profile in windows.old files and the new installation of the OS.

  • Move from vista to windows 7 on the same computer. Is it necessary to make a "transfer"?

I'm doing an upgrade on my computer from vista to windows 7.

Am a little confused about the need to "transfer" of data to an external source.

What is a precautionary measure, used to retrieve the data if something terrible happens?

Or is it that, after the upgrade to windows 7, the data is then "transferred", back on the computer newly improved?

Windows Update has nothing to with the upgrade of Windows.
