Cisco ISO Custom - VMWare ESXi 5.5 Upd 2 - VMware Update Manager still shows update 2 required

Hi all

I just updated one of my guests with the latest cisco image provided on the vmware website (Vmware-ESXi-5.5.0-2068190-custom-Cisco-5.5.2.3).  After the application as an upgrade of the host and then doing a scan against the host in the Update Manager, it shows that ESXi complete update 2 is missing?

I know this is maybe more a problem of vmware, but wanted to see if someone had run into this?

This thank you for the quick response.

  • Update ESXi 5.1 to 5.5 - should I use ISO custom?

    Hello

We use the DELL and HP servers running vSphere.

When we are improving to 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi ESXi, can we download the ISO from VMware image and use the Update Manager to upgrade OR it is advisable to download the ISO image customized DELL and HP to upgrade?

ISO if custom is preferred, wonder if hardware vendors have different ISO for a different model of servers?  (Some of our servers have been 5 years).

    Thank you

    Hello

Well that depends on the used material (type/server model). If the host has a customized running version, I would use an ISO measure for the upgrade. Custom versions usually include CIM providers for health for example data. If some storage controllers are to use also which are not officially supported by VMWare, you must use the ISO custom to have included the pilot.

For HP servers, please refer to the VMWare HP recipe for compatibility checks on the server model.

DELL provides it has customized the ISOs on their support pages and if you look at the download page and check "Supported systems" you get a list of compatible with this version of VMWare server models, e.g. VMWare 5.5 Update 2 DELL: Details of the VMware ESXi 5.5 driver update 2 | Reference Dell U.S.

  • free "original vmware' update esxi5 for HP custom esxi 5.1

    Hi @all

I have a question about the upgrade of an original vmware esxi 5.0 (free version!) on a G7 HP Proliant DL 380 with HP P2000 G3 MSA SAS attached to esxi 5.1

I can use the customized image of hp for this upgrade or do I use the "VMware ESXi - 5.1.0 - 799733 - depot.zip ' VMware? '"

    https://my.VMware.com/group/VMware/details?downloadGroup=HP-ESXi-5.1.0-GA-10SEP2012 & ProductID = 285

I have several drivers HP and for example the HP ESXi installed Bundle offline...

How can I preserve the 3rd third-party drivers installed and beams when I update? the 3rd party drivers and the beams are compatible with esxi 5.0? (I thought it would be great if I can go to the image of HP custom because everything I need is built into this image :-))

someone has done this before? I have to do it on a production system and I don't really have any other HP hardware to test the vom vmware esxi 5.0 for hp upgrade custom esxi 5.1

    Thanks for your help!

    Kind regards

    Klaus

    Hello vmklaus,

It works smoothly, and you have two options:

    (a) download the file from VMware "VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-799733-HP-5.34.23.zip" (found on https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/details?productId=285&downloadGroup=HP-ESXI-5.1.0-GA-10SEP2012) and put them in the data store.

Then SSH to your ESXi and fire following command:

    Update profile of software esxcli d vmfs/volumes / [your datastore] / [your folder]/VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-799733-HP-5.34.23.zip Pei HP-ESXi 5.1.0 - semi-trailer]

    (b) download the VMware 'VMware-ESXi-5.1.0-799733-HP-5.34.23.iso' file, burn the bootable ESXi HP-Branded 5.1 Installation on a CD for the deployment more far.

Don't forget to load the updates, available on http://www.vmware.com/patchmgr/findPatch.portal

Please keep in mind that the HP SmartArray real driver has a bug. It displays an alert on the Firmware even if you load the current Firmware.

    Kind regards

  • using vmware update manager to update Dell M630 ESXI 5.5 update 3

I use put vmware update manager (VUM) up-to-date Dell M630 ESXI 5.5 updated 3. The Dell build was published on 11/13/15.

The results of the baseline VUM are attached. I was surprised that some older patches from 2014 are suggested, and even complete full update and 2 update 3. Is a common practice to just update with whataver MUV said, or is it best to get VUM to apply the patches after the date of release of a version of the seller?

If missing the update you must certainly apply. I'm just going by what suggests Manager Update and apply all the patches.

  • ESXi 4.1 using VMware Update Manager Update

This is my first time using Update Manager to update an ESXi host.  I have vCenter server and the Update Manager Server installed on a physical machine that has ODBC connections to a database Microsoft SQL on a computer located on my single ESXi 4.1 host virtual.  Realizing that I have to put the ESXi host in maintenance mode in order to upgrade to the latest version, I don't know how to and can continue to use vCenter Update Manager.  My only guess is that I'll have my SQL Server VM to vMotion to another ESXi host and have somehow vCenter and Manager update access to this database in order to stop the VM of the SQL Server to put the host in maintenance mode?  I tried to close the VM of SQL Server when you are connected to vCenter but I lost all ability to do something immediately.  My DC is also on that same host ESXi as well, closing the domain controller affect as well?

If you have only an ESXi server and your VC / database etc all SimCity.EA.com ESXi host, you could consider only the upgrade without using VUM?

    http://www.get-virtual.info/2011/03/24/436/

If your ESX host is in a cluster, the 'Miantenance Mode' operation will be vMotion virtual machines to the other hhosts and you should have no problem.

  • ESXi 5.1 to 5.5 update

    Dear Experts,

We currently have a version of ESXi 5.1.0 1065491 installed with a customized Image of Dell. We would like to update to VMware ESXi 5.5 Update 2 (build 2068190). We downloaded the custom image VMware ESXi 5.5 Driver Details Dell Update 2 | Reference Dell U.S..

Is it just a matter of starting the host VMware .iso and then selecting Refresh as opposed to install? What we should consider before updating?

    Thanks for your help.

    Oliver

you're all set, but I still love allows you to check if you check these things before upgrade.

    1. Ensure that enough disk space is available on the host for the upgrade or migration. Migrating from ESX 4.x to 5.x ESXi requires 50 MB of free space on your VMFS datastore.
    2. If a San is connected to the host, detach the fibers before continuing with the upgrade or migration. Do not disable HBA cards in the BIOS.
Note: this step does not apply to the ESX hosts boot from SAN network, they the Service Console on the SAN LUNS. You can disconnect LUN that contains the VMFS data store and do not contain the Service Console.
    • VMware strongly recommends that you back up your host before you perform an upgrade or migration, so that, if the upgrade fails, you can restore your host.
    • After the upgrade or migration, test the system to ensure that the upgrade or migration completed successfully.
    • Apply your licenses from the host. For more information, see Reappliquant Licenses after upgrade to ESXi 5.5 in the vSphereUpgrade Guide.

Also I suggest you to read the KB article. VMware KB: installation or upgrade to ESXi 5.5 best practices

And Yes, good luck for your upgrade

  • M1000 and R 620 blades/VMWare Update Manager

    Small question:

I need to upgrade my 5.1 to 5.5 ESXi hosts.  I'll use the VMWare Update Manager to perform the upgrade to my hosts, who are servers in a M1000 r.620 chassis.  What I need to download the .iso in VMWare ESXi ESIi specific Dell 5.5 5.5 or can I use disc VMWare 5.5?

I did not upgrade since the original install and we used the Dell disk at this time here because he had the pilots but thought that with the Update Manager, I wouldn't need to use the specific Dell disk now.

    Thank you.

    You can use.

Be sure to upgrade your vCenter and Update Manager 5.5 before attempting to upgrade the hosts.

The image of ESXi 5.5 vanilla of VMware and Dell 'branded' start ESXi 5.5 of the same image.

However, Dell adds drivers and additional sensors.

I would recommend going with the image of Dell.

  • Version number VMware update manager

I want to install vmware updatemanager, but it displays: this server vcenter isn't compatile with vmware Update Manager.

My version of vcenter server is: 5.1.0 build 123532

    My 08 R2 64-bit system

I want to use vmware update manager update my vmware environment. So what version of MUV is necessary the download, thanks!

Yes, you can download 5.5 and the environment 5.1 to 5.5.

You will need to start by vCenter, then ESXi hosts.

After you are done before the two, you can go ahead and install VUM.

Another option is to upgrade vCenter, install VUM and then upgrade of servers using AUVS.

  • The downloaded update package cannot be used with vSphere VMware Update Manager

    Hello

I am improving a system of vmware (Vcenter + 3 host) of 5.1 to 5.5

I did a reinstall total Manager Vcenter and updated to version 5.5, using a new database.

Then, I want to update my hosts with Update Manager.

When I download VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 5.5.0 - 1331820.x86_64 in Update Manager, I get the message: cannot use the update package downloaded with vSphere VMware Update Manager

I also tried to import VMware-VMvisor-Installer - 5.1 (Build: 1065491) but I get the same error

In my view, the vmware KB2009812 is not applicable, because I've updated UDM first to 5.5

    Any idea?

    thx a lot

The iso file has been altered. Md5 verification is sometimes very nigra

It seems that you have two different processor speeds. Try the VCA mode and also check the BIOS version you and make sure they match.

  • VMware Update manager does not appear in Vcenter

I'm in vCenter Server on a Windows 2003 Server; I also installed VMware update manager

I was at a loss on how to run the Update Manager, then I fell on the PDF, saying he should be a supplement that is visible when I connect to my server Vcenter; The problem is, I don't see anything.  Apparently it's suppseose to be under home & gt; Solutions and Applications & gt; Update Manager, but I don't have that

go to your top tool bar and click on Plug-ins - manage Plug-ins.  Do you see VUM in Plug-ins available?  You must download and install the client.  In addition, the plugin VUM is specific customer, so someone else who may need will download and install

  • VMWare Update Manager Server does not work after changing name of host/IP

I have Virtual Center 2.5 update 4 and Manager Update on two separate servers.

I had to rename and change the IP of the Server Manager to update, and now the Server Update Manager does not work.

Here are two mistakes that I get, when you try to activate the plugin Update Manager:

"The server took too long to respond" or "VMWare Update manager cannot accept applications because VirtualCenter.

Server is not reachable, or it's the database is not reachable

    by train to stop'

That's what I did to change the host name:

-J' uninstalled virtual UpdateManager 1.0 Clients Center customer.

-I stopped the Service VMware Update Manager on the update server

-J' I renamed the update server changed its IP address and the host name and then rebooted the server (without starting the VMware Update Manager Service)

-J' changed the value of the fields

    dbo. VPX_EXT_CLIENT. URL

    dbo. VPX_EXT_SERVER.UR

-in the vCenter (on the vCenter server) database reflecting the new name of the server (the new hostnameis to pings to the vCenter server)

    -J' restarted the vCenter Server

-J' started the Service VMware Update Manager on the update server

-J' installed the client plugin update manager Virtual Infrastructure client

-J' have TRIED to activate the plugin, but I got a warning about an untrusted certificate (I guess it happened also when I installed the client for the first time, and everything worked) and then I got two errors:

sometimes "the server has taken too much time to react" and a few other times "the VMWare Update manager cannot accept applications because VirtualCenter.

Server is not reachable, or it's the database is not reachable

    by train to stop'

I think that there are a few other references to the host name of the Update Manager, which I have not changed, on the vCenter server or Manager Update server...

Does anyone have an idea what do I do?

    Thank you in advance.

I would try just reinstalling the update on existing installation manager.  Do not overwrite the database in the process so that you shouldn't really lose anything.  Not the plugin, but since the Update Manager vCenter installation media.

Give that a try and let us know how it goes.

  • Requirements of VMWare Lab Manager

    Hello!

I'm trying to put together a proof of concept for my business help to reach an agreement to buy and implement of Lab Manager, but am having a hard time getting real answers on a licence!  Maybe I'm reading just the documents wrong or something, but here are my questions:

    (1) VMWare Lab Manager does support ESXi?  If so, why do I use instead of ESXi ESX when all management is made by the end before (Lab Manager or vCenter Server)?  ... I have no need of HA or VMotion.

    (2) do I need for 3 products license?  For example, Lab Manager, vCenter Server, and ESX server?

I read in a PDF document that vCenter Server is not a must but could take no ESXi, but a person in chat support told me that Lab Manager backed ESXi but necessary vCenter Server.  I'm a bit confused.

What is the deployment scenario recommended for an environment with 1 physical host (to start) but plans to expand to 3-5 in the year?

Thanks for your help!  Sorry to ask what I am sure is answered somewhere on the website, I just couldn't find where and it seems that the name of the product seems to be different depending on what you're looking at (ESX Server Infrastructure =?)

    -Jesse Reinhart

    Hi Jesse

    (1) lab Manager does not support ESXi.

    (2) Yes Lab Manager 3.0.2 requires the current version VC, it does not work on stand-alone host. Director of the laboratory 2.5.x support stand-alone host.

You need a configuration that Lab Manager-->--> ESX VC even for single host currently.

    Hope that helps
