Clicking on a file crashes to explore

When I say RH click a file in My Documents to look at properties, or rename etc... It blocks to explore.  I opened the window of the closed folder and Explorer seems to stop and immediately restart.  It doesn't do this on say LH click of the mouse.  I have 2 drives C: for system and D: on which I keep all my data.  This problem occurs on the D: drive.  On the C drive seems to occur in the folders and files on my userspace, say in My Documents or my music, etc... It seems to be limited to this sector.  It seems to be a recent appearance.  Any ideas, anyone else have this problem.  I've seen this kind of behavior on Windows 8.1.  But I am running Windows 7 Professional (64-bit).  All critical patches applied, including the last 20/21 today.  PC is an Intel i7 with discs 2 x 1 TB 8 GB or RAM processor.

The following link has a good tutorial on the use of Event Viewer:

In addition, the following link has some info on right-click crashing with certain locations in the registry of the managers of context menus:

Spybot has been known to cause the problem of such right click reported in this thread if you can try to disable just its managers of context menus.

    Looks like a ShellExtension incompatible.

Run ShellExView [1] and disable all NON-Microsoft extensions. If the error are gone select 3rd party addons 1 followed by the other to detect the addon that causes the problem.

  • Under XP I have right click Start exploring, when I right click on a file, it says Explorer has encountered a problem, I need help.

In the error message, there is a lot of information sent to Microsoft, but I have never had a response from them or been able to correct the problem myself. So what good sends an error problem to Microsoft each time got? Please notify that it is driving me crazy...

Usually, this is caused by an expansion of the Shell program.  Download and run the program freeware "ShellExView".  He will present a screen with all the Shell Extensions present.  Disable them a little at a time by unchecking them until you find the one that is causing the problem.

  • Question about the opening of JavaScript (.js) files in Windows Explorer...

    Hello.

I write web pages with external JavaScript files.

When I right click on a file in Windows Explorer .js, I get a choice when selecting menu "open with...". » :

-Microsoft (R) Windows Based Script Host

    -Microsoft Visual Studio

    -Notepad

Nothing happens if I select the first. What is the first listed selection? Is this something that should have come with Vista?

What to keep in mind, is that JavaScript is coded in the web pages, for example in HTML format.

Go to a web page, right click on the white space and choose View Source and you will see the words such as JavaScript and function. If you look at the coding of the function, you should be able to recognize the commands.

    Good luck with the coding.

  • Double-click to open a Word or Excel file crashes just for centuries before opening it later.

Recently, by double clicking on a file name to open a Word or Excel file, my PC crashes just for centuries before opening it later. Text files, PDF, jpg files and other open immediately, no problem. I have not changed the Word/Excel software recently and the extensions.doc/.xls file are correctly associated with programs. Why don't double-click work properly?

Open Word/Excel and then use the file - dialog box open to open a file.

    Which causes the same delay?

    Hello.

Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for the inconvenience.

To resolve, download the freeware "ShellExView".

When you run it, it will give the list all extensions of shell on your computer.  You start by selectively the deactivation and activation of extensions until you find the (s) which is causing your problem.  Start by turning off all non-Microsoft (right click on a line-> disable) extensions and see if your problem persists.  If it isn't, then re-enable the disabled in small groups until you narrow down which is causing your problem.

  • Windows Explorer closes and restarts (?) when I right click on a file photo.

One time, I installed a software to go with a slide scanner. The software changed to the default program for photo files and then proceeds to seize up after that about 12 slides have been scanned. I removed the software, but every time I do a right-click on a file photo, jpeg, gif, bitmap, etc., or try to open the file menu when one is highlighted, close all Windows Explorer Windows and icons in the taskbar and desktop disappear for a while. The last two return after a minute or two, but not all open windows. Other programs such as Internet Explorer or MS Word are not affected.

I suspect that the defective scanner software installed an entry in the context menu. Search for it and delete it using the ShellExView free program:
