Closed shop of a friend. He gave me an iMac. I don't have the password. Want to just clear the machine and install the latest OS. Can someone tell me how to do this?

Wipe the entire machine and install the latest OS without login password.

The person who gave you the computer is supposed to have done this before giving it to you.  Restore the computer to them and tell them to clean the hard disk, remove all their information from the administrator.
