Closed vs Hibernate

Can someone explain the difference between standby extended and closed. In addition, what is recommended?  Thank you very much.

Hello

-What means hibernation saves your current session. If you have a laptop and you move a lot, and you want the battery life of your laptop last longer, then you it hibernates. Hibernation does not consume battery when you turn your laptop on standby with the great advantage that it also saves your previous session. You will also get a faster start of your operating system. If you have a lot of applications installed on your laptop and for example, you go to a meeting, then you better choose Hibernate to have a much faster start.

Hope this info will help more understanding between the different shutdown options.

Kind regards

Andrew

  • HP Pavilion 15 laptop: hp is not closed or Hibernate (HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC)

    Hello

I have a problem. (First of all apologize for my bad English)

I just bought a machine (15 HP Pavilion Notebook PC) not even 5 months ago. And I noticed that the machine never goes and does not enter into hibernation mode.

The only way to turn it off is to restart and shut down just after the restart. If I use it for more than an hour and I turn off or hibernated, I the screen turns off but the fan in the computer and hard disk turns off, the LED start button not either. And this until the battery is empty (which is not good at all for the battery and the machine).

I checked on the internet a lot of people have the same problem... You're giving solutions, but with me it does unfortunately not work.

    Hello

On some machines, the pilot for 11 series IMEI has been known to cause that kind of question of the judgment, so it may be worth trying an earlier version.

You can use the following method to install an earlier version of the driver IMEI.

Download driver IMEI on the link below and save it in your downloads folder.

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp66001-66500/sp66228.exe

Disable your wireless card (should be f12 ).

Open your download folder and run the installer - it warns you that it is an earlier version, but simply continue.

    When finished, restart the laptop.

If the computer shuts down correctly, turn on your wireless adapter and use the utility on the following link to prevent Windows 10 to update automatically the driver IMEI again.

  • Satelite A wake up from Hibernate wihle lid is closed

I saw this question posted everywhere here and all over the web with no answer. Those who contacted Toshiba and paid not received a response. It is of course common but there is no solution that I can find.

With my laptop into hibernation, if I close the lid, it will often turn on automatically as if the switch is loose. I don't always find this until I get out my laptop and the laptop is very hot, battery for most dead and the password of the screen. "Wake we ' ALL options are disabled (LAN, etc.). If I leave the laptop in hibernation with the lid open for a day, to turn on itself, tells me that's put anything external, running. It's obviously something triggering the laptop to think that the lid was reopened when the lid is closed. HOW can this be disabled?

I can't find another brand that has the same question. The BIOS doesn't have an option to not wake up the lid open. The software doesn't have an option to not wake up the lid open. Put a rubber band around it or leave the battery is NOT a solution. Y at - it a real solution to this problem with the hardware from Toshiba? If I it hibernates, close the lid, open the lid, let it restart the password then press on turn off there even if I open and close the lid several times. Obviously, logic exists somewhere to do so. Setting hibernate on press the button does not solve the problem.

    Thank you.

  • explaining hibernate vs closed for the computer illiterate

A relative of mine who is computer illiterate asked why she cannot use hibernate all the time instead of shutdown down, as the computer starts much faster. She seemed to have trouble "getting" the explanation of exactly what does each of them, so I tried this explanation. Is it specific enough for someone who can barely send an email or type one letter and often needs help in web forms?

[QUOTE] At the time where you were working, you remember how at the end of the day you had to clear your desk so the janitor could clean it up? Still occasionally you would leave a project on the desk and the concierge would not be able to clean it because of stuff on him. With the help of hibernation is like leaving all your stuff on the desktop. He is allowed to do once or twice, but if you do all the time the system will get dirty and dirt will gum work. Using of closing down, it's like compensation on your desktop if the concierge can clean it up. You want to use shut down regularly to prevent the accumulation of dirt on the computer. [/ QUOTE]

It's a pretty good explanation for someone computer illiterate and I believe that voluntarily ignorant or is there a better?

Oh, and I am aware that Windows 7 is much better on does not need to be restarted as often as Windows 95, but it's always a good idea.

Looks like a good enough explanation for me.

  • ES1 - 512 hibernate if it is open, but not with the lid closed. LED will blink red and blue?

I want a laptop, when closed, to go to sleep, then transition to Hibernate.

When open, transition work. Race walk, sleep, Hibernate.

When closed, transition fails. Running, sleep (slow orange blinking), and then rapid blue/red flashing LED.
During flicker battery consumption is large and the battery goes dead quickly.

I have tried many power configuration settings.

Cover-> nothing or sleep - same results.

Cover-> hibernate - works, but is NOT what I want.

Button to Hibernate, but not what I want.

I want to do what it should - sleep and hibernation...

What does glitter blue/red LED mean?

OK, I found a workaround solution - with a caveat.

The xHCI driver is apparently in conflict with something that causes chaos when the laptop tries to transition from sleep to Hibernate with the lid closed.

This is definitely a bug that should be fixed! Acer needs to work with Microsoft to find the problem and fix it.

If you go into the BIOS settings (reboot and press F2) and disable xHCI.

The USB ports will return to PCI mode. All USB ports are working, even if I think they are USB 2.0, not 3.0

Now the power level can be set to sleep when the lid is closed and it will cause a transition to Hibernate when appropriate!

I will not be speculating here but I don't think it can be material nuisance.

  • How do I configure my acpi settings lid (in the registry) so I can turn on from Hibernate with the cover of my laptop closed?

I use my Toshiba Satellite 2435-S255 as a server connection to the Internet so I can access my music to any Spot Wi - Fi via my mobile device.  I have a third part closed to the down/power-on demand in hibernation during the night and wake up in the morning.  I don't want to work all night.  I don't want to leave the lid open.

I had this operating system perfectly turning on and at the bottom, lid closed, without supervision... and then the computer's hard drive crashed.  Successor and updated everything and now... this 'thing' WILL NOT turn on hibernation with the lid closed.  I tried everything short of antics with the registry, which is what brings me here.

I put the functions of ACPI, so the cover '' not doing anything. ''

The only difference between the front and after the accident set ups is that, now, the machine is running XP sp 3 and before, it's only the sp 2 (I think).

    Anyone?

  • Cannot hibernate with Firefox (21.0) running. WinXP OS.

    OS: WinXP
    Firefox version: 21.0

My computer won't go into hibernation while Firefox is running. She will be in hibernation with all other running programs except for Firefox. When Firefox works, and I'm trying to Hibernate mode, my computer will look like it starts to Hibernate, but back then on after a few seconds. Only after that I closed Firefox the computer successfully Hibernate.

Try Firefox Safe mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most of the modules.

(If you use it, switch to the default theme).

    • Under Windows, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key SHIFT key when you open the desktop Firefox or shortcut in the start menu.
    • On Mac, you can open Firefox 4.0 + in Safe Mode holding the key option key when starting Firefox.
    • Under Linux, you can open Firefox 4.0 + with leaving Firefox then go to your Terminal and running Safe Mode: firefox-safe-mode (you may need to specify the installation path of Firefox for example/usr/lib/firefox)
    • Or open the Help menu and click on the restart with the disabled... modules menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, simply select "" boot mode safe. "

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to understand that one. To do this, please follow article Troubleshooting extensions, themes and problems of hardware acceleration to resolve common Firefox problems .

To exit safe mode of Firefox, simply close Firefox and wait a few seconds before you open Firefox for normal use again.

When Firefox is in Safe Mode, please try to hibernate your computer Windows XP.

  • Z930-119 satellite crashes in hibernate with black screen - reset?

Since then, the screen is white/black, although I can change with the power button between "operation", including HD, WLAN activity and alternative (long press) 'Hibernate' with a fading power symbol of the operation.

I tried all the combinations of keys, power, FN + F5, FN + F8, long-press-button etc. There is no output signal to the external VGA connector. I haven't reached any change at all.

    All I need is something like a * hardware-reset *.
There is no easy way to remove the battery as shown in the internet.

You have any suggestions or tricks like "press xy and uv.." or similar to produce a true the hardware reset to make the device from the beginning?

I can't believe that a product sophisticated as the Satellite Z930 has no provision for restart in the event of a software failure. In some cases, things like this happen in real life.

    Hello

As far as I know that you need remove the bottom cover just to get access to the battery.

Here is a video on Youtube:
    [Toshiba How - to's: Z930 and Z935 disassembly Instructions | http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSmEhiK3Njs]

But I recommend trying something different.
Did connect you the external monitor to the laptop just to check if something would be seen on the 2nd screen?
    Do this.

Where nothing could be seen on the 2nd monitor that you could try to remove the battery and press and hold the power button / 30 sec long.
Not quite sure if it would be useful, but in some cases this procedure could help the reactivation of the unit again.

  • Libretto U100 - do not hibernate properly

    Hello

My laptop do not hibernate properly. He used to work perfectly. I've changed anything so I don't know why this is happening. The symptoms are:

1 close the lid, XP traverse prepares him to Hibernate process, then is put into hibernation. After at least 2-3 minutes, sometimes like the laptop computer awakends on its own. The cover is still closed.

    2. the laptop awaken itself also when I put in the system hibernation using the following method: select start > turn off computer > Hibernate. Systems wakes up again on its own.

I tried the things below to solve the problem, but unable to solve the problem:

    1 turn off the Wifi.
    2. check the BIOS. Wake on Lan is turned off.
    3. click on Hibernate, and then run the disk check.
    4. disconnect the USB
    5. do not connect to Windows XP IE. Stay at the logon screen, and then close the lid of the laptop. Systems goes into hibernation but wakes up then to randomly on its own. Sometimes after 2-3 minutes and sometimes longer.
    6. I put the system on hold and Standy works perfectly.

I would be very grateful if you would be able to help me.

    Kind regards

Are you really sure that no Windows Update or driver has been updated on this machine? Sometimes, Microsoft distributes updates without the user's knowledge.

I would recommend you to reclaim your machine and see if hibernation works again after reinstallation of the machine...

Would appreciate any comment in this case ;)
