Code 800 b 0100 on Windows for Vista64 SP2 update

Hello

For a few weeks (December ' 09) I started to receive a notification indicating that one of my updates fails with Code 800 b 0100.  I clicked on help and he suggested I run the tool to "System Update Readiness Tool for x 64-based Systems"-I did.  After its completion, I still get the same error code.  I looked through the journal that it produces, but it is very big and I wasn't able to find anything of use.  After looking through Microsoft forums, I found a similar solution (http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistainstall/thread/8f4ab273-8528-487f-8af3-aa75c7bb0186) who gave similar results.  I found another (CheckSUR.log) log file which seems to be more useful.  The log shows:

If there is anything I can to get my file system online (outside of a complete re-installation) please advise.  I'd appreciate any help.

Thank you

Well, you are right when it comes to try to resolve the error 800b0100: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956702 recommend to run the CheckSUR tool & you've already done that.

You are also right when it comes to KB970430 and whether you really need to install it: KB970430 is a 'non security-related update. ' The line less resistance would be just "hide". Below, [2].

That said, Norton applications are notorious for not not upgrade (or uninstalling) itself. You can try the procedure in [1] below first, especially if a free trial of Norton is pre-installed on your computer when you bought it.

Good luck!

==============================
[1]

1. download the Norton Removal Tool, save it to your desktop: ftp://ftp.symantec.com/public/english_us_canada/removal_tools/Norton_Removal_Tool.exe

2. close all open applications (that is, anything with an icon on the taskbar).

3. After completing some you have a copy of your handy product key, uninstall all Norton software (including LiveUpdate and everything Norton Add ons) via Control Panel | Programs | Uninstall a program (or Control Panel |) Programs and features, if you are using the classic view).

4 IMPORTANT! -Online activate Windows Firewall immediately after the restart.

NB: Now you're "working without a net": no to ANYTHING else online (e.g., navigation, reading e-mail, chat) until you have completed step #8 below!

5. right click on the file that you saved in step #1 above, and then select run as administrator.  DO TAP not your keyboard until the race ends, then restart.

6 see if KB970430 now installs. Follow all the prompts, if the operation is successful.

7. now make a clean installation of NIS 2010 using your product ID & reboot: http://www.symantec.com/norton/support/kb/web_view.jsp?wv_type=public_web&docurl=20080514162318EN

TIP: Do not activate or install additional modules of Norton (for example, Norton Anti-Phishing) immediately.

8. manually and repeatedly run LiveUpdate until you get a prompt "no update more".

==============================

[2]

1. stop the automatic updates service:

Start > Right click on run , and then select run as administrator > services.msc (type) > [OK]
Double-click automatic updates > click stop
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

2 remove the contents of the download folder:

Start > Right click on run , and then select run as administrator >
(type or copy/paste) %windir%\SoftwareDistribution > [OK]
Open the download folder and delete its content
Close the window.

3 start | Control Panel | System maintenance and (if you use Classic view, skip this step). Windows Update |  View the updates available (or Select the updates installed): right-click on KB970430 | Click hide update | Confirm the prompt UAC (User Account Control), if any, & OK your way out.

4. start the automatic updates service:

Start > Right click on run , and then select run as administrator > services.msc (type) > [OK]
Double-click automatic updates > click Start
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

--------------------------------
To restore/show updates for Vista: Start | Control Panel | System maintenance and (if you use Classic view, skip this step) | Windows Update | Restore hidden updates: Find and select the update you want to install. Click restore. You can now select once again it and install through the normal process.

    ========================================

System resources, such as file of data, even in the data memory and registry data, can develop inconsistencies during the lifecycle of the operating system. These contradictions may be caused by various hardware failures or can be caused by software problems. In some cases, these inconsistencies can affect the Windows Service store, and they can cause software updates not do not work. The system update tool attempts to resolve these inconsistencies. When System Update Readiness Tool detects obvious incorrect files or the registry data, it can replace the incorrect data with a corrected version.

  • Windows Update KB2491683 failed (error Code: 800 b 0100)

original title: Windows Update failed KB2491683

    Relative to the update: KB2491683

    Hello

This update has failed repeatedly. It is the first time this has happened to my system. I am running Vista Service Pack 2. The error code is: WindowsUpdate_800B0100. I followed the instructions for when an update fails and installed Windows
Setup of launch day, but that didn't work either. I also tried to download it directly from the Microsoft Download Center, but that failed too.

Any ideas on what I should do?

    Thank you

    Marc

    Hi MarcBW,

Since the update by train to be installed is for the editor to Fax, you happen to have any other software that interacts with faxing?

  • Cannot install update KB951847 error code: 800 b 0100

I, too, am unable to perform this update, I get the same error.  I am running Vista 32 bit and we tried the following:

    (1) running checksur (see below)
    (2) checksur running in safe mode.  Received the error, that he could not run in safe mode.
    (3) file system Ran Checker (sfc/scannow). Received the error that I had some corrupted files that he could not adjust.   Gave me the address where to look for newspaper... couldn't find the log.
    (3) separate ran standalone updates for 2.0 (message I didn't need this update).  (the message that it wouldn't install) version 3.0 and 3.5 (same error as before).  Some kind of problem with 3.0?

It was not unclear to me that fix - it, we are supposed to use?  It is the first condition in the section windows update?  None of the correction of his reference to the 800b0100 problem

  • Update for Windows 7 for systems x 64 (KB2388210) will not install, error code 800 b 0100

I am installing this update and it fails permanently despite trying to update the system tool that does nothing and trying solutions such as posted here,http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/thread/1c2ce115-b8a4-489c-87ca-e544907d49e6. Current anti virus I use is Kaspersky, no third party firewall and I have Spybot S & D, but the problem occurred before installation of Spybot. Any help is appreciated :D

    See...

    Windows Update error 800b0100
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/Windows-Update-error-800B0100

Tip: Disable the Tea Timer of Spybot and leave it off until you got the update installed (assuming you still want to install it). See http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?f=26&t=32409

NB: If you don't fully understand what Tea Timer does and how it does, leave it off in a way permanent.

Tip: See if temporarily disabling all protection of KAV in real-time allows the update to install. Contact Kaspersky support or post to aKaspersky Forum appropriate assistance.

  • Windows 7 - error Code: 800 b 0100

I tried step 1 as suggested, but there is no errors with CheckSUR.

I was not looking for step 2 as MS Support told me that I am under a different version of Windows 7 and this hotfix does not apply. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit.

    Other options?

    Thank you!

1 reset the IE8 advanced settings by http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Reset-Internet-Explorer-settings

    2. open IE8 32 bit (only!) at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 & run it in DEFAULT and modes difficulty then AGGRESSIVE. [1]

    3. restart & test.

[1] full Disclosure: the difficulty operating in AGGRESSIVE mode will remove your update history but not the list of installed updates.
