  • Specific update for Windows on Windows 7 disables the internet connection in Internet Explorer

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. 10/14/2010 my computer installed something around 18 updates to Windows. Immediately after the restart, I couldn't get an internet connection on Internet Explorer. My computer tells me I have 90% Wi - Fi, but I get nothing on Internet Explorer. I restored my computer to until I installed updates, and immediately after the restart of the internet worked well. I decided then to individually install each update of Windows one by one and found a specific update that causes this problem on my computer. It's "Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 8 for Windows 7 x 64-based Systems (KB2360131). I am able to install all the updates, only this specific one stop my internet to view Web pages.
On a side note, I have another computer with Vista, and this computer shows no problem after installing all updates. I don't want to change my settings to manually install updates, I love that they install automatically, but that just doesn't work if this particular day keep install and maintain close my internet. Any suggestions as to why it continues to be?
    Thank you!

[I turned first on my new computer on 30 August.] I tried to activate [the 60 days Norton free trial] in the first week or two, so maybe between 7 September - 14 September... not [uninstall before I installed MSE] however.

You must have activated the free trial immediately (i.e., August 30), not a week or two later. In addition, you should have uninstalled Norton free trial AND download / run the Norton Removal Tool BEFORE you installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

I suspect that you see the effects of a hijackware infection. Chances are that your computer is already infected at the time wherever you tried to activate the free trial of Norton. See...

Personal data backup (which none should be considered 100% reliable at this point) then format the HARD disk and do a clean install of Windows. Please note that a repair installation (upgrade AKA on-site) will NOT fix it!

HOW to do a clean install of Win7: see "using the custom installation option" and formatting the hard drive section of http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7

NOTE: If your computer came with a set of disks, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install (AKA a "destructive recovery").

After the new installation, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" once again in order to take care of EVERYTHING on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) AND BEFORE to plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external drive to the computer otherwise:

VERY IMPORTANT!-online The Norton free trial will be reinstalled (but invalid!) when Windows is reinstalled. You MUST uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the Norton Removal Tool before you install any Windows updates AND before installing your new antivirus application (for example, Microsoft Security Essentials).

  • Windows Firewall does not start. Cannot start connection ICS internet sharing service

Hi Please help, my computer has been infected by a pretty nasty trojan, (MEREDROP) I managed to remove it (and all of its subsequent downloaded files), but it was very difficult. in any case since that my windows firewall does not start. I get the error code. 1075 and the msg (windows cannot start (ICS) internet connection sharing service). I tried to replace registry files, I tried the system restore, I tried to change the permissions, I tried to turn it on manually, I've updated my BITS. Ive also ensured that the dependent services are running. According to my list of component services, they are... Nothing works. I need to format the HD for this problem or is there a standalone windows firewall available for download?

Thanks for posting. Please note that the use of system restore after infection and removal of malware very probably re-infected your computer. Please follow all instructions on this thread HERE. Let us know the results.

  • Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP. __This is probably caused by settings of firewall on this computer. __

I recently installed the version of Norton, after that I was unable to use the internet, I thought it was the Norton firewall settings. After having playing with her for 30 minutes, I gave up and uninstalled Norton. I have disabled the firewall, I have reset the default settings. Here is the message I get when I run a diagnostic. A crazy thing is that I can connect to internet when I connected to this same computer as a guess.

    Please help me!

Windows cannot connect to the Internet using HTTP, HTTPS or FTP.
This is probably caused by the settings of firewall on this computer.

Check the settings of firewall for the HTTP port (80), HTTPS port (443) and FTP port (21).

    Hi rhonda9937,

    1. what browser you are using to connect to the internet?

It is not recommended to keep Windows Firewall disabled on the computer.

This would happen if the ports are not open in the Windows Firewall.

I suggest that you open ports in Windows Firewall and check if it works.

Restore to factory state out of the box. Can I install all updates from Microsoft using Windows update or can I install antivirus first before to connect to internet?

Currently Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 x 86 (no patches since 2008). Currently, it has no AV and has not been connected to the internet yet. It will be behind a router.

I had to redo the factory already reset after be connected to the net for 20 minutes and then a bunch of programs kept crashing saying Data Execution Prevention had to close the program StackHash and BEX error when executing update for HP drivers.

Maybe I installed Kaspersky first next time?

    What should I do?

    Thank you!

No problem. Install the updates. You can install the anti-virus later.

Just don't start browsing the inet by updating.

Change the motherboard outside the Windows Starter edition license invalid warranty conditions (all Starter installations are OEM).

You can try using activation by phone - but to prepare for the operator to refuse to activate the system

Follow the instructions - but when asked which service you need the ansafone phone, don't answer - it should oblige the operator to answer, who can deal with you.

  • Windows 7 - connected to wireless but no Internet access

I understand that this has been asked before and there are many "solutions" posted on different forums that are not relevant to my problem or simply do not work.

A few weeks back, I was on vacation, my daughter called to ask if I had cut the internet router and BT Hub as she was not able to connect to the internet. It had been fine the day before. I didn't and I couldn't do a lot the lot so said I would sort when I got home.

I just spent the better part of a week trying to access the internet on his laptop, a Toshiba running Windows 7. I know that the internet and wireless works perfectly as his cell phone is sitting right next to my Sony Vaio running Windows 8. Also, my Sky TV, Kindle, Iphone and iPad to my wife connect seamlessly. It would seem that the possible culprit is a Windows Update which took place on 31 August. I tried to go back to her but she was advised by a friend to uninstall the update and she tried to make a file at the same time and now the reversion will not work.

When the laptop starts up, until I connect, there is a dialog box indicating a wireless connection and correct network is listed.

However, after I connected, even if the wireless connection is still showing as a good signal and 'Connected', it is currently connected to: section shows network not identified; No Internet access.

I ran the gamut of the instructions in uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers of network, playing with the settings of Virtual WiFi miniport and almost everything that is proposed on the other forums but not luck so far.

All I know is that someone will want to see the command ipconfig/all results so here they are. I removed the spaces in line to get them on a single page.

Short using 'rebuild the hard drive' Toshiba, I am now at a loss to know what to do. I would also like to know WHY this happened and how it could be avoided in the future.

Any constructive help appreciated.  Thanks in advance.
