Com and Lpt ports not in Device Manager

I have not "Ports" option appears in Device Manager in Windows 7.  I have an internal modem and I am trying to attach my blackberry, and there is no port - Com or Lpt.  It's just not there.  Any ideas?

Hi emstaples,

1. check if the device is hidden device.

i. click on view under view hidden devices

II. develop all winks in Device Manager

III. there would be multiple entries in the device in gray Manager uninstall all entries shaded under all the winks and then restart the computer and connect the external device to the computer and check if it works.

2. check in the BIOS (embedded devices) if the com ports are enabled and set to "auto".

BIOS WARNING: Change to the BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

3. If the steps above does not resolve, then you will need to install the driver manually.

If the computer starts with a (not a bootable) disk already in the drive, doesn't it appear so?  If so, just keep a disc in the drive, you can still eject and insert another if this isn't the one you want.  Even a blank disc usually does the trick.

    Your question is confusing.

What is the Device Manager has to do with your question?

You have the printer driver on CD-ROM or downloaded?

If you mean there is no entry in the drop-down list, as shown in this image: http://screenshots.modemhelp.net/screenshots/Windows_XP/Printers/Add_Printer/03_%28Local%29/01_%28Use_Port%29_%28Select%29.shtml then you need to check the "Create a new port" to create the USB port.  Especially with HP printers, however, it is preferable to use the installation software as HP uses a USB port to measure.

  • internal card reader must be disabled and then enabled in before Device Manager it will not work properly.

Whenever I start my computer, my internal card reader must be disabled and then enabled in before Device Manager it will not work properly. I put an SD card in there and auto does not work. I check my computer and it shows that it is there, but when I double click on it to open it I get a message saying: Please insert the SD card. When I go to Device Manager and disable and enable fine orks. I tried different cards, but it makes no difference.
I installed a different card reader, but another did the same thing. This leads me to think it's a matter of Windows.
I tried to do a repair install, but it ends and said that the upgrade has failed?
Anyone have any ideas on how to solve this problem.

I am running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. It is a Renesas controller and I use the 2.1.28.0 with firmware driver 4015.

I'm not sure but I may have found the problem. I see where a guy here was having a similar problem and it was caused by Acronis. I recently installed Acronis 2012. I have been lucky to uninstall, but I will update this post when I do.  He was also running windows 7-64 bit on a motherboard ASUS!

Acronis was the problem.  I uninstalled Acronis and now my card reader works as it should.  Strange!

  • Unknown device named "PCI data acquisition" and signal processing controller in Device Manager

    Greetings,

Yesterday, my brother, who was running Windows 8.1 Overview on his Asus S400CA Ultrabook fell on a big problem of the NTFS partition corruption that made it impossible to recover through the Refresh Utility Windows 8.1. Given the situation, my brother decided it was better to go back to Windows 8, I had to install Windows 8 on their PCs by using an external DVD drive with a Windows 8 x 64 installer I already buy plenty of detail. The computer never asked me for a product key that I have read is normal in Windows 8 PC now having these embedded in the motherboard. So far an installation smoothly, but he's going to be delicate in the part of pilot facilities. Before you remove the computer I went to the Asus website and did my best to find the specific drivers for my brother's computer and downloaded the key drivers, chipset, audio, intel graphics card, bluetooth, trackpad Wireless LAN, LAN and Asus and installed. I used Device Manager to check that the drivers have been installed and which did not exist. I was able to get most of the drivers installed properly, however, said the Device Manager miss me the pilot of "Data Acquisition and Signal Processing controller PCI. Unfortunately I go to Asus website to see that if I can find the driver however, I can't do this right now.
Check the attached screenshots for visibility...
I also tried to use Windows Update to see if he could find the correct driver and unfortunately it's a dead-end. Because of that I write in this forum to see if someone can point me in the right direction when it comes to this missing driver (and others) indicated in the Device Manager.
One last thing that I would ask is if I can use a utility like DriverMax to find missing drivers or should I go and install it manually?
Thank you very much in advance for any help on this matter.

Original title: cannot find drivers for Asus S400CA Ultrabook PCI

    Hi Mike,.

Please keep us updated on the status of the issue. Please do not hesitate to answer, in case you need help with Windows in the future.

    Good,

ASUS technical support according to my brother was a bit of a dead end, so I went to another Google search and found the culprit. I was missing the following drivers of ASUS:
    • Intel® dynamic and thermal platform frame driver
    • ASUS Wireless remote control (a driver for you to enjoy the airplane mode (Wireless) On / Off)
The first pilot took care of the Acquisition of ICP data and Signal Processing controller and all but one of the unknown devices. Finally, the other took care of the last unknown device in Device Manager.
I never thought that ASUS would use this a strange name for their driver because these names are extremely misleading.
Other than that, I can finally say with certainty that the computer of my brother is back in business, and I can call this comprehensive process of restoration of Windows 8.
Thanks for any assistance to Zaki J, I appreciate much all advice through this process!
  • Pavilion network adapter are not not in Device Manager

My Pavilion P6330f lost the internal network adapter (no internet connection, adapter are not not in Device Manager).  Is it possible to re-restore/refresh it?  I tried to do a scan to refresh hardware, but it doesn't show any internal network adapter.

I was able to get back on the network by installing a wireless network adapter via the disk support provided with the wireless USB device and using Device Manager.

It seems that the internal NETWORK adapter has gone (fried) and I need to install a new NETWORK adapter in one of the expansion slots.  Other options?

    Is this a common problem?

    D.

No, it is not common, unless your home has experienced a surge\dropout of power or a bolt of lightning. What you are experiencing, this is usually the result of thet.

Since your office worked five years ago, he certainly provided you a reliable service. You might consider looking for a PC replacement in 2015. SCP last usually about five years before replacement is required.

Wireless, it's that a good option as no extra wire is a good thing.

    Hello

I had a P500 Satellite with Windows 7 weeks and on my network wireless at home, a few days ago the wireless on the laptop disappeared completely! Completely disappeared from the Device Manager, does not even appear as an unknown driver. Updated to the latest driver, but that has not solved anything, switch wireless is enabled, but the wireless near the switch icon is red and pressing fn + F8 does nothing. Its almost as if this laptop is not wireless! No mention of what anyone in the network connections.

It looks like a malfunction of wifi module if it is not listed in Device Manager. To be sure it is hardware related issue, restore the factory settings. If it still does not appear, the wifi module is unemployed. In this case, contact the service center or buy the usb wifi dongle
