  Hello, I recently installed Windows 7 (Vista upgrade) on my Dell Inspiron 1420 laptop.  I have the manual of the AverTV hybrid express card Tuner in my computer.  Since the upgrade, I can't watch live TV for more than 10 minutes, frost-free photo & finally the computer stops responding.  I downloaded all the latest drivers from Avermedia.

  I think that I finally understand it.  It seems to me that several thousands of Microsoft customers deal with this problem.  Here's what seems to have solved my problem of WMC.

  WMC is simply a graphical interface.  He should not be able to manage your video motion capture or other treatment needs.  Instead, your video card needs to do this.

  On my ATI/AMD HD3800 Sapphire card, I went in the Catalyst Control Center settings.  Most of them (in fact, probably all the I recall) had checkmarks for "Let application descriptor [motion video capture;]» rendering], etc"I unchecked all these boxes and place gave my instructions to the video card for the card itself to manage video, motion capture, etc.

  Voila.  Video beautifully smooth, which also looked richer and sharper to start, was the result.

  WMC is a great product, but it's just a GUI, not a substitute for your own video card image rendering.  Say your card to manage all video motion capture and rendering functions, instead of letting these functions to GUI simple applications such as WMC, and I bet you will have a difficulty also.

  Since the installation of the Windows 8.1 upgrade my AVerMedia TV Player program is no longer in effect.  When I run the program I get a message manually starting the programs AVerRemote and Aver a Service Appendix.  These programs are no the case in the site in the program file.  When I ingnore the question and try to start the service of TV it tells me it cannot find the Aver TV card.  Windows hardware says the card is installed and working properly!  Program made perfectly before the upgrade to 8.1.

  I had the same problem when I upgraded to Windows 8.1. AverMedia TV Player has stopped working. I went to HP Recovery Manager and reinstalled the software and drivers. That seems to work for me.

  If computers were purchased with Microsoft's Downgrade rights, they would be shipped with Windows 7 Pro 64 bit installed in the factory and restore HP 8/8.1 Pro 64-bit Windows included media. We used Windows Media Center (WMC) to watch TV on the computer. We have configured WMC so he would understand the controls on the Comcast remote and transmit on the IR blaster to the Comcast box. We were able to use the remote control supplied by HP to change channels and adjust the volume and mute. (All orders that we needed to watch TV). WMC has some basic record and play facilities that we rarely used.

  NEW PC - we decided to upgrade to a new computer and got the last HP pavilion all in one office. He came originally with windows 8.1 which later, we went to 8.1 pro. Support HP told us we had to 8.1 pro for WMC. WMC on later. We got an Avermedia card with the new all-in - one desktop computer. It worked fine with the Avermedia software. Even if we had to use 2 remotes, one for the Comcast box to change channels and the other for the HP computer change the volume and mute. We got the Avermedia TV version 1.8.1 of player with the card Avermedia H8370 hybrid USB ATSC/QAM. Avermedia TV player is easy to set up.

  We got WMC for windows 8.1 pro and hope we could configure it as our old computer to work with a single remote control. We tried to set up WMC, it stopped and would go no further without an IR receiver. Because the new computer came with a remote, we thought it was an IR receiver built in, and so HP. coming to thin out, the remote works in conjunction with the keyboard and mouse, wireless. It does not work when the wireless receiver is disconnected from the USB port. There is no edge receiver IR in the new computer. We were looking online and a USB receiver connection IR has a HP top brand name, which comes with a remote control and IR blaster that should allow him to transmit the signal IR of the Comcast box. (as our old facility) We ordered and installed. It requires no drivers to install with him. All I can understand is that volume up and down and mute signals must be common to the Comcast remote and HP computer. There was no attempt to reconfigure the remote with all the 'TV' Comcast codes, we are just using the default settings on the Comcast remote.

  All the functions work Comcast normally since we use the Comcast remote, controls only that we really need had to adjust the volume and mute on the computer and now it works. The Avermedia software has a few basic functions of recording and we have now all the facilities that we used to have.

  All we really needed to buy was the IR receiver to make it work. There is need of distance from HP (we now have 2) and cable IR blaster provided as a package. The IR receiver has been listed as a NEW HP USB MCE IR receiver/Remote Controller / Win Vista 7 infrared transmitter. We got it from Las Vegas ECHOMAN. We found it through Amazon for about $19,00. HP can't find it as a product of their business in order to not try. There may be other solutions out there, but it worked for us.

  The new HP 'All IN One' is not really "all-in-One". It came with 4 USB 2.0 ports and 2 3.0 USB ports. I had to use 2 USB port for the work of the TV and 1 for the wireless keyboard / mouse work. The old computer had on-board IR receiver, TV card, and keyboard/mouse IR blaster port/cable and wireless receiver.

  We were very disappointed by HP sales and service in support of this product. Sales did not know what they sell and everything promised, and there was virtually no support for hardware/software support team. We finally got help from HP, but it was a 'Case manager' when we finally threatened to return the product. HP gave us aid coverage is extended free of charge for all our troubles. We contacted Avermedia for help and they would only return us HP because they were second retailers part. AVerMedia gave support, but only after repeated emails. All this knowledge was acquired through the school of hard knocks and seems really simple, when you look back on it.  So we hope this will help someone who is in our position.

  This problem has been resolved.  We sent the rear Hp computer and bought a DELL computer with a port of HD which connects directly to our set top comcast and press us a button and it goes into HDTV mode and push it again and it goes back to the pc mode

  Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 2.2 GHz Cache2: 4 MB. ATi Mobility Radeon HD2600, HARD drive 400GO (updated 1 TB - 2 x 500 GB), memory 2 GB (upgrade to 4 GB), Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit (upgrade to Ultimate 64-bit), HD DVD player (updated writer BD Panasonic UJ-220)

  I don't have not upgraded to Windows 7 yet, but I'm fired her (complete Ultimate) since the launch. I'll finish my backup first before moving on to Win7, which I expected to happen before 2010. I am aware that HP does not officially support this.

  THE POINT: I tried the Windows 7 RC on this laptop. Most drivers for WinVista work. However, many are not:

  The biometric problem is solved - but the State of the driver is "Beta". I wonder if the final version has been released. I downloaded this independently by using the link provided in the Microsoft Forum. I can't find the link by visiting the home page of the manufacturer. HP original vista driver install without problem (but windows doesn't have to admit), but verisoft software does not completely work. I use Win7 built in biometric recognition.

  * AverMedia vista driver install without problems, but could not detect no TV signal - while under Vista there easy to find channels.

  * HP QuickLaunch original vista driver works, but several buttons do not work.

  I intend to run Vista (and XP too finally) out of my computer. Thus, it would be good to have a full computer work without driver problems. I use XP (not supported by HP) when using some programs - but XP, I sat in a dual-boot config, have several drivers does not not with this laptop. I'm hoping to throw by Vista for good, leaving Win 7 because the only OS in my laptop, but if driver problems still there, I would probably keep Vista for awhile.

  Also, if someone knew some other problems that I have not seen, please let me know too.
