Comodo Firewall or ZoneAlarm free firewall free?

I heard good things about Comodo free Firewall compared to the 1 that comes with Windows 7. Even though they say that Windows 7 firewall is excellent against the inbound threat prevention is not as good as outgoing Comodo as well. Right now I use ZoneAlarm Free Firewall & he did a decent job. However, I'm starting to wonder is better Comodo? The only bad thing I have heard talk of ZoneAlarm is that they are slightly trimmed with ask.com now & their auto-mises to day produce weeks or even several months after the actual release of a new version. I need the best firewall free as possible for both outgoing & incoming, Comodo better then ZoneAlarm?

You can configure the built-in firewall for incoming and outgoing settings without problem. Simply go into the advanced settings.

If you are insistent on going with a 3rd party, my suggestion would be to Comodo. Zone Alarm had problems earlier in 7 life, know if they are all healed...

But really, learn 7 is under construction. Its nothing like the XP / Vista firewall as it was.

    Hello

Frankly I run Avast and forget about Comodo or any firewall left 3rd. Use of the Windows Firewall
that is extremely effective. Most routers today also have a built-in firewall hardware that works
Well well with Windows Firewall software.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Low-cost 3rd part firewall software are quite a lot of problems delayed. They all have
compatibility, issues and offer only a few improved controls. In fact their problems often actually lower
the overall security instead of laying. The Windows Firewall has no problem of compatibility and is
extremely safe, if you know enough to work around most of the hype. Cost of firewalls software quality
thousands. Most routers have hardware firewalls built in and those are much better additions
for the money than any firewall at low prices and low-cost software.

  • Portege R830 - Windows does not start after I have install Comodo Firewall

    Good afternoon

I bought today a Portege R830, and after the Windows configuration, the first program that I installed was the popular free Comodo Firewall. After that I restarted, Windows 7 unbootable. It would be stuck on the user login screen and I know it's a problem with the firewall because if I do a system restore to the restore point created by Setup of firewall, windows restarts.

So I ask if there is any inconsistency between the firewall and software on the Toshiba. A that someone already had this problem? I tried to solve this problem throughout the day with no results. I even re-installed Windows 7 using the Toshiba Recovery and the problem persists. I really like the Comodo and I want this firewall on my laptop, but Windows does not just start!

    Any help would be apreciated.

    Hi jillefsky,.

Have you disabled the Windows Firewall before you start with the installation of Comodo Firewall? As far as I know, Portege R830 is delivered with preinstalled McAfee security software and you must remove this program before you install other security tools.

Generally this has nothing to do with Toshiba and it s advisable to contact Comodo directly. They may know about this so they can give you a proper answer.

But I put t understand why this program is so important to you. Windows already has an internal firewall so that these programs are not necessary in my opinion. Just install a good antivirus like AntiVir and enable the automatic updates of Windows. All that s!

  • Solution: The videos Flash does not not - Win7 w/Comodo Firewall

On a new machine, I have added my desired desired programs. These include Comodo Firewall and Firefox with various plugins and addons (including Adobe Flash Player NoScript, FlashBlock, AdBlock Plus).

I soon discovered that the videos would not play (initially I could see some videos using HTML5, but after some adjustments, they were gone too). I tried MANY suggestions and settings are on various boards of Directors, nothing worked.

I should have learned long ago that I need to document all THE CHANGES, I have in my system - but old habits have life tough. I tried many things, with no written notes. I didn't know what problem prevented the Firefox to play videos. Nothing I've tried has worked. After unsuccessfully, I have reset Firefox (sad to see my custom settings go). When I restarted Firefox with only the plugin Flash Player active, I could not yet play videos.

More follow-up research. Finally, I came across the solution on the Comodo site:

       http://forums.comodo.com/defense-sandbox-help-cis/defense-in-clean-pc-mode-is-blocking-flash-uploader-in-firefox-3612-t64628.0.html;msg459022#msg459022

There, I learned that Comodo Defense + had blocked the Container Plugin Firefox (and Crash Reporter) to run.

I used the following steps to resolve the problem on my system (w/Comodo Firewall 7.0.317799.4142):

       1) Open Comodo Firewall (right-click the Comodo tray icon and select Open)

       2) Select Tasks -> Sandbox Tasks -> Open Advanced Settings

       3) In the "Advanced Settings" Window, select Defense+ -> HIPS -> Hips Rules

       4) Find the entry for Firefox.exe. Right-Click it and Select Edit.

       5) In the Comodo HIPS Rule for Firefox.exe window, select the "Access Rights" tab. Locate the "Run an executable" option. Click the modify link under the "Exclusions" column.

       6) In the "Run an Executable" window, select the "Blocked Files/Folder" tab. Select the plugincontainer.exe entry and right-click -> remove to delete it. Do the same for the crashreporter.exe entry.

       7) Click "OK" on each of the Comodo Firewall widows to save the changes and close the window.

After doing this, videos might play. My next task will be to reinstall my favorite extensions and see if I can get Firefox works as I liked it on my old PC.

I hope this help anyone with a similar setup.

    Thank you.

  • V9.0.1 FF and Zonealarm free 10.1.079.000 - cannot add Firefox.exe in the list of Application control settings (it keeps disappearing)

I just rebuilt my XP SP3 desktop from scratch, so it's a pretty lean, clean machine right now (have all relocated apps yet). Updates are ongoing as of early this am.

I installed FF v9.0.1 and free Zonealarm 10.1.079.000, who I thought were supposed to be compatible. However, when I try to add FF to the list of Application control settings, weirdness follows. I can add it, I can configure it... and then when I get back a few moments later, Firefox is no longer in the list of applications. Repeatedly, he disappears. I try to be pretty serious about security, and gives me a Benin urticaria cases.

This is not expected behavior based on experience several years of using these two programs. But I must admit, these two versions are new to me, if anyone has any clues what / why / that's why?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Advantages, disadvantages of the use of 3rd party firewall vs WIndows firewall?

At the suggestion of PA Bear, I open this thread to learn about firewalls.

I have a Dell Latitude D600 with XP Pro SP3. I use ZoneAlarms free firewall. It seems however, ZA conflicted with my WiFi USB NetGear adapter and threw me the network after about an hour (in one place, totally crashing the machine to a blue screen). At the suggestion of the PA Pooh, I unloaded ZA and activated Windows Firewall - no more conflict.

But I'm missing a couple of other functions, I had with ZA: - visual indication on the taskbar of traffic flow - permit/deny internet access to specific programs - completely locking all internet activity

So is a decent firewall program that offers good firewall protection AND these conflicts of WITHOUT Extras?

    Or:

Why should I stay with Windows Firewall and not look elsewhere for additional features?

Hey, Joel. Thanks for the reply.

I liked the alerts because there seems to be a lot of things happening in the background that I had never heard. I enjoyed being able to see what was going on and kill him. "what do you say every time I open a file that you want to connect to the internet?"

The other part is that I use my laptop and more in environments where I don't have an internet connection I do in coffee shops where I have WiFi. I didn't want the constant slowdown of who-knows-what-and-how-many programs to make repeated calls for a connection.

I don't know what I'd do with a router - it's just me and my laptop and Starbucks (or elsewhere).
