Compaitble Linux distro for cdt Tecra520

Hi all

need a bit of information on what would be appropriate for my Linux Distro beast.
I know that ubuntu tends to operate on all the new tosh machine that my problems trying to locate an older distribution that works on older models, none of the 500-550cdt models.

My machine works under XP, right now, with a full comliment RAM@160Mb, BIOS version 6.8, 40 GB HDD, DVD-ROM TEAC (standard CDROM doesnâ? t as CD - RW or DVD disc). I had a CD - RW drive works even if the front was not flat so that came out, not tried a DVDRW drive yet. Currently experiencing an 8 GB SSD, CF, (well get to get rid of some weight :) card

Other users of 500-Tecra 550cdt still out there in the ether?
Any information would be great in my quest for appropriate distribution.

  • Why distribution linux Suse for Vmware virtual appliances

    Hi people!

I was wondering the reason of vmware using Suse Linux distribution for all of their virtual devices?

Thank you very much for your comments!

VMware and Novell have an alliance, so I suspect that is the reason behind this.

  • Debian Linux suggestions for Satellite M60-135

    Hello

I would like to have a Linux Debian functional system as a main OS on my M60-135.

So far, I have tried several Live CD and DVD:
    -4 debian itself
    -Knoppix to 5.2
    -Kanotix 2006
    -Sidux Chaos
-Ubuntu and Kubuntu (the two 6.10)
    -Linux Mint 2.2

    Also:
    -Fedora Core 6
    -Free Mandriva 2007

None of them work due to problems with the X server.
Obviously, the ATI graphics chip does not.
Setup continues correctly - even up to the sounds of the operating system startup - but the screen remains black.
So no way to enter the console, do not change the files or whatever.

    Now my answer:
Anyone who manages to get a Debian system running on such a machine an if-HOW?
Please keep in mind that I am a newbie to Linux and I have for these reasons forward rather 'visible' explanations ;-)

    By the way:
OpenSUSE 10.2 recognizes the graphics card properly and boots up to a visible screen.
    What's different here?
However Suse is not my way of Linux...

    Thanks for all the ideas!

    Hello

the thing is that linux is not perfectly executed on EACH system, so if you want first linux then use a distribution that works out of the box.

Thus, it doesn´t matter which distribution you use, if you are a beginner then start with suse. It s distribution perfect to start and after some time of practice, you'll have more experience and you would be able to configure your system if something goes down.

It s just a matter of time what distro you use, but don t overload with dists as fedora, gentoo, or something else.

Try it with suse and make your way. :)

    Welcome and good luck

  • Linux driver for 3g modem in NB100-12N

The title says it all, I'm looking around for a driver linux for the modem 3 g built-in NB100-12N. Someone had a bit of luck with that? Any suggestions?

    Hello

I think you should ask this question in a Linux or Ubuntu Forum. I think most of the users use Windows because it s delivered on Toshiba laptops.

Sorry, mate, but I think that this issue should t be a problem in another forum. You can maybe use a driver from another laptop that has the same 3G card.

    Good luck! :)

  • Linux drivers for ATI 3470 on Satellite A300 - 15 k?

I have laptop Satellite A300 - 15 k with Ati 3470, there is no driver for linux on Ati or site Toshiba, how to install Linux 3470? :(

    Hello

Toshiba does not provide support for linux at this time. There have been rumors that they would install Linux on their machines, but they have not been confirmed and I know: as long as they don t preinstall something on their laptop, they absolutely can't stand.

Usually, it shouldn't be a problem to install your graphics card under linux, according to which you´re use distribution you should check the appropriate forum (for example if you installed ubuntu, then check out the ubuntu forums..)

    Welcome them

  • GNU/Linux drivers for Tecra R840-10 t PT429E-00M007EP

    Toshiba and ForumFolk greetings.

I am considering buying laptop said, but I will so if I can use it with my "Other Operating System". :)

I'm guessing that this laptop is relatively new and I can't find reliable information anywhere, so I'll try here first. What I see, Toshiba supplies only drivers are windows ones.

FREE software drivers only go as far as HD 5890 series for the graphics card. What is the difference between HDMI and DusplayPort?

I'm completely in the dark about the chipsets are actually used for the other components. Some drivers are supposed to be "OS independent", however, following the links for the 3G driver, I get a list of the 3 drivers/utilities for windows.

I guess that bluetooth and WiFi (a/b/g/n or b/g/n?) will be more simple and easy to support with FREE software drivers, I hope. The manual stipulates that WiFi and Bluetooth work in the same frequencies, is it? Any risk of actual use (network dropouts, etc.)?

I don't really like to drive Optics (or speakers and card-slot machines), but which is not being able to use 2.6 and 5.2 GB DVD - RAM?
    All the lights here?

PS: The Toshiba laptops that do not have vents on the underside are there? It's rather silly to laptop manufacturers.

As much as I know that the Wlan card is 802.11(a/g/n) Intel supporting BT as well.

But why you do not use a tool of hardwarediagnostic for Linux?
That would be the best way to get part of hardware features...

What chip has this laptop? Under vista it says Atheros AR5007EG Atheros and Atheros AR5006EG lspci Linux

    Hello

I also find that this unit L40-137 has been delivered with the Atheros 802.11 g Wlan (XB63L) card information.
In fact, you won't find the Linux drivers on the Toshiba driver page because Toshiba does not support Linux officially ;(

I see only one way. You must googel for a driver compatible Wlan supporting the 802.11 chip (XB63L) g from Atheros.

Good luck and have a nice weekend

  • Linux distro with which it would work on Satellite A100?

    Hi guys,.
My laptop is Satellite A100-011 and im having problems to choose a working linux distribution. I tried SuSE 10.1, SuSE 9.3 and Knoppix 5.1.1 but none of them doesn't work. Respectively - the first takes too long scan the system, the second goes down while the installation program is running and the live cd knoppix couldn't even managed to load - an error (although I don't exactly know it)
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    Hello!

You can try Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn. Installation process is quiet easy (but be careful with partitioning, because the default schema can erase the disc). You will not have problems with wifi, because the distribution of a native Intel drivers for your card. If the sound card is compatible with SoundBlaster, must be nor any problem with this, and if not, there are some howtos to turn the sound on the wiki of Ubuntu (Kubuntu is exactly the same system as Ubuntu, but with KDE instead of Gnome preinstalled). Ubuntu repositories contain nVidia drivers too.

Oh, the installation of Kubuntu program sometimes has problems with partitioning manual, but installed on partitions already prepared (for example using another distribution Setup) is a nice solution for this.

    Good luck! :)

  • There are Linux drivers for the 4351?

    Hello Mike,.

No we do not have a driver that supports the PCI-4351 on a Linux system. The drivers current DAQ for Linux is

    NOR-DAQmx Version 8.0 for Linux

NOR-DAQmx Base Version 2.1 for Linux

In the readme.txt file, you will find information on all the different hardware that is supported by the driver. The PCI-4351 is not there.

Another resource to check the compatibility of the driver is to go to the acquisition devices data (DAQ) Installation/Configuration Troubleshooting - Support of the Driver NOR-DAQ.

I hope that this information helps you with your application.

  • Is a PCI-6120 card in a computer with linux useful for the analog output?

We have a PCI-6120, and we want to use in a computer with linux OS, to the analog inputs and analog outputs.  I have downloaded the driver NOR-DAQmx Base 3.2 for linux, and in the file README.txt only analog input is mentioned for this Council. It is possible to use this card PCI-6120 in linux, with output and analog input computer?

    Best regards

    Hey, Gallas,.

This line in the README file simply refers to the PCI-6120 by its more popular, analog input subsystem (given that it is a simultaneous sampling device, the AI is the most commonly used subsystem). But NEITHER-DAQmx for Linux does not have the same limitations NOR-DAQmx base has. In other words, it supports the ability of analog output on the PCI-6120.

    Kind regards

  • How can I add a Linux system for a computer restore LAN Windows

I have 3 MS Windows computers on a Linksys LAN router. There are two available printers by all three computers. I acquired a 1 terabyte computer with Centos6 installed. So far, I was able to conect to my router and installed the program email Evolution and also installed the Firefox browser. What I can't do, is add printers and communicate with other computers... It seems to work as a standalone computer. This question might be more appropriate for a Linux forum, but I thought I would try here first of all, I would really appreciate any help from anyone who might have some experience with Linux. Mine is limited as I do this as a project of learnng Linux.

    Bruno

What you do not specify how the printers are connected to the network.  They are directly connected to the router with a cable of TCP/IP or are they connected to a Windows computer with a USB cable?  If it's the latter, then to access printers or files shared on your Windows machine, you will need to communicate with NetBios over TCP/IP (NetBT or NBT).  Linux machines usually use the 'Samba' program to achieve this.
