  If you do not, use another PC to create a rescue CD Windows 7.  Download the ISO relevant among the links below - if you are unsure, your laptop is listed as coming from a 64-bit installation...

  You must use an app like ImgBurn ( Note: you can deselect additional software during installation of ImgBurn options) to burn the ISO to a CD - a guide on the use of ImgBurn to write an ISO on a disc is here.

  When creating, type following the ESC key as soon as you start the launch of the laptop Boot Menu, and then insert the rescue CD.  Select the Boot Menu options ( f9 ), use the arrow keys to select the CD/DVD drive and press ENTER.  You can also get a prompt to "Press any key to" continuous - it if requested.

  Select the "Repair your computer" option and follow Option 2 in the guide on the link below to run the Startup Repair - you may need to run this 2 or 3 times.

  Reconstruction of recent software with HARD drive internal extra (March 2011) under Windows XP/Linux dual-boot installation worked fine.  CD/DVD RW drive, started giving errors so replaced cyclic redundancy check drive a week ago.  All still OK.  Change of electricity supplied and increases energy use conciousness off the machine to the outlet of the overnight after normal shut down.  Machine will not re-start not in the morning.  Not load BIOS; all lights came briefly and then die after 3-4 seconds with power still led on.  You can get a similar effect by plugging the keyboard into the PS2 Mouse Jack I did once!

  After 20 minutes or so try all kinds of things managed to boot from the CD of Linux.  Shut down/restarted and everything is fine so I don't switch off at the wall.  Also seems to be OK after brief power off for 5-10 seconds but the problem persists with any long disconnection.  It seems that after 10 to 15 minutes from power-on and 2-3 attempts to restart, BIOS comes up and all is well, but he stopped in the middle of a start of Windows or Linux on a couple of occasions.

  Am I right in thinking the problem might be the result of a dead CMOS battery?  The reason that I ask is that the clock seems to keep time OK and there is no apparent problem with the BIOS once it loads.

  Any help/advice would be much appreciated.  New config info below.

  I don't have all the answers so I went forward with replacing the CMOS battery, but that did not help.  The problem is also obvious if I turn it off and leave it for an hour or more before trying to restart even if I do not unplug the wall plug.  It seems to take about 15-20 will start again before it fires.  I would be really grateful for any clues as to what is wrong.

  OK, guys.  I finally solved the problem.

  I own a laptop CQ56-203SG who did very well for years (I don't remember when I bought it). No abuse, no hard hits. New battery HP for a few months.

  No problem before. Used with Ubuntu which worked perfectly! No M$ Windows never touched this machine.

  It is unbootable. Same BIOS is not accessible.

  Start by pressing the power button led to: in the power button / stop light is on, seeing orange key F12 is on white light in the CapsLock key flashes slowly. No recognized flashing coded signal.

  Fan, slowly, is constant.

  Monitor remains dark. Lamp HD made a short when turned on flashing, dark rest then.

  It does NOT make a difference if the lid is open or closed.

  Yes the gpu is soldered to the motherboard.

  Well you can heat with in-house tools, it could restart the laptop, but that's just temp fix, fix it properly, you have to completely take off gpu and put in a new one, and to be done with reballing station which as I said is not good cheap.

  If you want to go with reception difficulty theres many videos on youtube with the heating phase.

  I used El Capitan 10.11.1 and everything was ok. Before moving to 10.11.2, I had 4 apps like startup items on my account:

  -Dropbox

  -Moom

  -Macs fan control

  After upgrading to 10.11.2, only of Dropbox is still to go. The behavior is baffling to me. I'll try to explain it.

  I opened the apps that have been lost as startup items. I put them to run at startup of mac under applications settings. When I restart the Mac OS X, restart the application, but the startup option in the Mac OS X startup is lost (if I go to the settings that the box is unchecked, if I look on the startup items, that the application is not). Of course, if I don't put it once again, the applications will start during the next reboot. So, this means that, after adding an application as startup item, only starts at the next restart, then is lost.

  The same thing happens if I add the apps manually as startup items instead of through the settings of applications.

  Hi, I have a Macbook late 2009, 4GB, El captain.  Since last year it started to slow down a bit, then applications are beginning to freeze and the beach ball are gone and... for ages (in hours) and even if I try to force that, I couldn't because everything has been frozen. So I had to force shut down the computer. Then, after a while, I couldn't start the computer and when I went to recovery mode, disk utility, the hard drive was still there but nothing about this, so I reinstalled from Time Machine. Was OK for a week, then again the same thing. For these last days, everything was ok, restart this morning I could not at all so I reinstall it again from Time Machine.
