  • Compaq Armada 7700 series ISO DIAGS/BIOS

Hello everyone, I'm having fun tinkering with an old Compaq Armada 7730MT and cannot get into the BIOS. Using fdisk, I confirmed that I always have the special partition (16 MB, first partition on the disk, etc.), but still, I can not load the bios by pressing F10.  So I found Rainald T (a user on this forum) wonderful guide on how to get the files for installation and a floppy disk DIAGS. I downloaded the files but you prefer to use an ISO. The link ftp for ISO in the guide no longer works so I was wondering if anyone know where I could get the ISO standard. Thanks for any help.

The results of several tests display the files that weed was that obviously would not be not attached - no idea why :-(

  • Compaq Armada

I just installed (don't laugh) Windows 7 Starter Edition on my laptop Compaq Armada 110 and found a Vista/Win7 driver that works for my PCMCIA Sweex card. Unfortunately I did have as much luck with my sound. For now, I have found a driver that works (I tried the audio driver Realtek HD Vista without success). Apart from that, everything seems OK and the installation proceeded without incident.

Does anyone know what works and where can I download it?

Windows automatic updates today released an update of the AC97 audio driver. Voila, problem solved instantly after two days of unproductive web searching!

  • Old Compaq Armada 1520 D questions-front-of-upgrade

First of all, I would like to introduce myself to the community, I am new here, but with the best of intentions to contribute.

So, I recently an old Compaq Armada 1520 D of a loved one and I intend to improve with more RAM, windows 98 and a bigger hard drive.

I got the RAM and updated the BIOS in order to have a better behavior under W98, but the hard drive installed in the laptop is really small, 1 GB, so I intend to replace it with a bigger. I have a PCMCIA-SD adapter, so I guess I could get more space to use it.

So, as long as I was not able to find information related to the maximum capacity of the HARD drive for these line of computers, I would ask here.

What is the maximum size of hard drive this old D 1520 will support?

And what is the maximum storage size accesible via the PCMCIA port?

    Advance thanks! ^^

I have not really tried CF in these old machines via a pcmcia adapter, but according to me, it would be always considered as an IDE drive so probably also limited to 8 GB.

I found the link to the BIOS later:

    Post on the Forum company

However, I am not sure that your model doesn't actually have 32 megs welded to the. I know it's true for torque models in the line, the DM of 1592 and perhaps the 1570, with Pentium MMX processors. The high end I had a Pentium 166 MMX and yours seems a Pentium without MMX 120. The update of the BIOS is always a good thing to do because it allows you to start from the CD ROM and improves the performance of the machine under Windows 98.

  • How to install a printer port parallel port Pavilion dv5 Notebook usb

When trying to install my printer HP DeskJet 610C Parallel Port on my HP Pavilion dv5-1235dx Notebook PC with Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, I followed the instructions given by the HP Support about two years back.

I connected the two devices with a parallel port cable / USB. The PC loaded and confirmed the correct driver. (On the advice of sites on the Internet, I made repeated attempts to install the printer carefully, to no avail).

Then my deliverance, the Print, the printer statement invariably prints two copies of what appears to be "gibberish" in two lines at the beginning of the worksheet. Subsequently, she picks up and ejects then 6-8 sheets of white paper.

Any help to resolve this abnormal situation will be welcome and appreciated.

I would add that the printer works normally when connected in parallel to an old Notebook Compaq Armada 1750 (XP OS). In this case also, the parallel/USB worked as in the PC Pavilion, above.

    Hi khalidem,

Looks like you have a communication problem with the cables from the printer. Have you tried a new parallel to USB cable or adapter?

  • Copy an old hard drive for Compaq laptop.

I have a Compaq Armada 7380DMT with a noisy (noise that feels like the dentist worn forest is in your head) drive hard 4gig. I want to copy it to a disk good 6gig, with diagnostic partition.

What utility actually * operation * so that when I install the new drive it starts in ye olde Windows 95 b instead of saying 'Missing Operating system '?

I tried Paragon Drive Copy 9 Pro with the copy of defining raw partition and Dubaron DiskImage. Or copied the disc correctly so it could start on partition 2, but he could start on the diagnostic partition if I held F10.

The diagnostic partition is FAT16 with a very bare Windows 3.1 on it, with the Compaq utility as shell instead of program manager program. The other partitions are a primary FAT32 and an extended with a logical partition to FAT32 partition.

The PC that I have to do the copy with host is a laptop computer running 32 bit Vista Ultimate SP1 and a couple of USB adapters IDE laptop.

PS, I was do this kind of things computer since nearly 27 years and still have not seen all "fun and interesting" ways to complicate the life of a tech computer companies have set up!

I couldn't find any disk copy utility that could copy all partitions AND create the thing correctly. Here's what I figure out to make it work.

    1. with the original disc in, press F10 when booting to access the diagnostic partition. Use the options to make the diagnostic and installation floppies.

    2. make a startup with Windows 95 disk, then make a copy on C:\ of MSDOS. SYS and change the name to MSDOS. BAK

    3. right click MS-DOS. BAK, click Poperties and uncheck the box system, hidden and read-only. Copy MSDOS. BAK on the startup disk.

    4. install the new VIRGIN hard drive and start with the diagnostic disk. It will take you through the implementation of a diagnostic partition and install the configuration files / Compaq PC diagnosis.

    5. Insert the startup disk and restart. Use FDISK to create partitions. PARTITION 2 MARK AS ACTIVE. It is 2. TWO. Not 1!

    6. Restart then FORMAT C:/s so the file system will be installed. To format all the others that you have created.

    7 A:\>attrib c:\msdos.sys s h - r

    8 A:\>copy msdos.bak c:\msdos.sys

    9 A:\>attrib msdos.sys + s + h + r

    10. remove the disc, connect it and the old drive to another PC by any means. USB > IDE adapters will work.

    11. on the old disk, use Explorer to go to the volume, which Windows 95 is installed.

    12. you need NOT hide all files and to display the name of Windows file extensions.

    13. press Ctrl a to select all files.

14 hold CTRL and click on IO COMMAND.COM. SYS AND MSDOS. SYS to deselect them.

15 drag with the RIGHT button of the mouse on the new drive, release and click on copy.

    16. when it's done copying, stop and then install the new hard drive in the laptop. Start up and you should be to the old windows on a new drive.

This process works even to switch to Windows 95 and 98 on a new disc using the Win 9 x computer is running. You must move the page file to the root of C:, or to another drive is not in the Windows folder. Format the new drive with the /s switch and when you copy everything, deselect MSDOS. SYS, so it will copy the basic version FORMAT installed.

It took me a lot of research to find the last disk of Compaq PC Diagnostics making SoftPaq to the Armada 7300 series, because HP does not have it on the downloads page for the driver of the laptop. This is the version 10.40 a, sp16085 number ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp16001-16500/ here the version removes the diagnostic partition configuration option. 10.39 version has, sp12906, keeps the installation program. It's here. FTP://FTP.HP.com/pub/SoftPaq/sp12501-13000/

  • Delete the file - access denied

I downloaded a bios update file and saved to a folder on my desktop.  It's for another computer.  When I try to delete it now, it says "access denied."  The name of the file is sp24786.exe.  This is a utility to create a disk to update the bios for an Armada 1750.  My laptop is a DV5140US.  Can someone help me?

    Thank you

    Ron2

You probably accidentally "run" the file, and there is a window somewhere waiting for you to click 'OK' or something, when an exe is runing, windows do not allow you to delete it. But it should allow you to remove it if it is not not runing.

  • I wan to turn off graphic Animiation startup and see the startup of standard text information.

I have a Compaq CQ58 (product # C@M29U##ABA) with Windows 8.  I would like to see the screen to normal text for the boot process rather than the funny boot animation graphic that provides no information with a circle of points that move.   In the past, the configuration menu of the BIOS would have a display of verbose configuration to provide this information.  Windows 7 under bcdedit had the command ' Bcdedit/Set bootux disable' or ' bcdedit/set standard bootux' to do this.  However, Windows 8, it is not possible to use this (thank you Microsoft).  Is there a way to get the start screen of regular text in Windows 8 with this laptop?  Thanks in advance for any help on this?

I saw your other post and want to come back to the original thread.

The number of the supplied product indeed returned a laptop Compaq Armada twice on the day of the original research.

Today, it has returned a laptop Compaq Presario CQ58-bf9wm which is a model of consumption.  I can't explain why he returned a professional notebook that day that I copy and paste the product number of the post in this thread that is exactly the same as that of the other thread.  Just a strange consuion on a part of the system.

I can confirm that this model does not have the ability to display information PUBLICATION and results.  I'm sorry.

I asked the original accepted solution to be deleted because it was not relevant to this topic.

  • NEW WINDOWS PRO 2000 FOR LINUX, ETC. ???

I have a Compaq Armada 7730MT (Windows 2000 Professional), which is almost new because I never used it for more than 20 hours... Now, I'm interested to use it as a portable secondary 'passive' (to watch old movies in B & W on YouTube, for example) so I'm surfing the Internet on the laptop to Windows 10.

The message you receive indicates imminent hard drive failure. There are has a few tools out there like Hard Drive re-Builder who allegedly fix otherwise unrecoverable disk sectors. However, these are not freeware, which means you would have to pay for the tool. At the time when you did that you could buy a new hard drive.

In addition, according to my research your laptop is quite old. Pentium III is very outdated. My advice to you is to get your data on the hard disk immediately regardless of whether you intend to repair the computer laptop or not. I would use the laptop as possible to extend the period of time for you to get your data. I was then looking in a new computer.

  • three questions... one parts, compatibility and a procedure

I think I accidentally posted this in the wrong forum, so will try again here.

FIRST QUESTION - I have a HP 8408us laptop.  And, although I did not notice before (blush), this laptop has two internal hard drive bays.  Currently, only the original hard drive is plugged into one of the bays (a 80gig SATA) so that the other remains empty drive Bay.  That is the problem.

The original 80gig SATA drive is held in place by a metal caddy/stand.  But the 2nd Bay is just 'empty' - with no trolley/carrier in place.  And a local geek shop told me that I had to get this carrier caddy if I wanted to install a 2nd SATA drive (which I do).  Could someone please point me to the HP store web page when I can buy this caddy/carrier?  Or, if this caddy/carrier is "generic" for all drives 2.5 "laptop, where a good place to buy one?  My local geek shop does not have on-site.

SECOND QUESTION - Is my future plan.  I intend to remove the 80gig drive and install a 500gig Western Digital SATA hard drive in the first Bay.  Subsequently, I intend to install a new copy of Windows XP Pro.  The original hard drive currently has Windows XP MCE, which, as I understand it, is simply extra (improved version) Windows XP Pro.  But since I've never used (and never intend to use) MCE bells and whistles, XP Pro will be enough for me.  Is there some incompatabilities I meet by going slightly 'backward' in Windows XP Pro?

THIRD QUESTION - after I have Windows XP Pro installed on 500gig drive, I intend to replace the 80gig drive in the 2nd drive bay and "format" NTFS only for storage purposes.  But to get Windows XP Pro installed correctly, I'm left with a question.  I know where the HP page is on my 8408us to acquire the proper drivers.  But I don't see any indication on this page that there is a preferred facility 'order '.  In other words, are there instructions that say:

    (1) install this driver first.

    (2) install this driver a second.

    (3) - anything... etc, etc, etc.

Is there such a page "driver installation order"... or do most people just ' wing it?

    Thanks to all who respond.

The issues seem to have been answered in another forum:

Hi everyone I have a HP Compaq 8710w and it works very well so far.

There is a problem experienced with Quadro FX 3600 M drivers in Windows 7 If you do not use the old drivers given the HP (186,24) but other than that, everything is ok.

    https://forums.GeForce.com/default/topic/516145/legacy/Quadro-FX-3600m-problems/

    / t5/Notebook-HP-ProBook-ZBook/8710w-Win7-random-freezing-black-screens/td-p/2337373#. VFdIW_msWfw

I want to improve my current Windows 7 Ultimate for Windows 8.1 but I can't find the official drivers from HP and I'm afraid that the blue screens of death will be back.

Is it possible to give official drivers for the Quadro FX 3600 M of this laptop great for Windows 8.1 because it is a known problem that all the other drivers do not work properly.

    Thanks in advance

As for the help of all the other drivers, there is an option that works for me.  If you must use a driver newest to work with Win8.1 (I have) there is a solution, but the will of costs over the life of the battery!

I had been using latest drivers for my 8710w fx3600m rigging using this method and I hope that it is a possible solution for you as well:

Download a newer driver for the fx3600m for Win8.1 and it's a good idea to film for WHQL drivers.

I am currently using the 334.95 driver (334.95-quadro-notebook-win8-win7-64bit-international-whql.exe).

DO NOT install the drivers right away.

    Download"Powermizer Switch.exe" here - http://www.box.net/shared/v7jpoateoq

Powermizer Switch.exe extract on your desktop for quick access.  You will need to be easily accessible.

It may be a good idea to make sure you're clean of any other video drivers Nvidia beforehand.

Now, we are ready to install the driver.

IMPORTANT!  When you install the driver, only select the driver and nothing else and don't forget to restart immediately!

Once on the Windows desktop, start immediately 'Powermizer Switch.exe', click on 'Powermizer Off' and YES to restart!

This will allow all pilots before the xx 192.le and eliminate the blackscreen/blue screen issue.

NOTE: any time you pass or update the drivers (former 192.xx), you will need to use this scheme every time!
