compatible external hard drive for HP laptop - 15-af028cl

I have a laptop HP - 15-af028cl with windows 10 and need an external hard drive to back up and store files. My older external hard drive is not compatible. How will I know if one is compatible before you buy?

Hello

What is your old external HDD? Any HARD (USB) standard external drive 2 TB down must be compatible with your laptop.

Kind regards.

I have a Macbook Air with OS Elcapitan 10.11.3. I want a recommendation compatible external hard drive. I heard that some external dives have"problems" with El Capitan.

I am a tech and have a large selection of discs between my personal and professional materials. Each external drive, I have worked with El Cap. In general however I avoid external drives Western Digital WD uses owners chipsets that are sometimes not completely compatible with Apple technology. I have a couple Seagate, Toshiba and IOmega readers of 'ready made '. As I said, they all work with El Cap.

I prefer to create my own OWC external systems or IcyDock enclosure. I tend to buy bare drives HGST, Toshiba and Western Digital these days. My speakers are for backups and a multimedia disc of high quality is very important. I tend to buy Server nu class disks. I prefer to make my own because it gives me total control over quality enclosure recognized with a standard chipset in the industry and also a known internal drive. When I didn't buy an external 'ready made' I have no idea what is inside or who did the speaker. At this moment I have USB 2 and FireWire speakers that are 5-8 years and still going strong (even if I swapped drives several times over the years). I don't think that I have a single 'ready made' disc, which is close to that age.

  • Add SimpleDrive external hard drive for Inspiron 9400

I use a drive external 250G hard SimpleTech SimpleDrive. I had plugged in a Dimension desktop computer and it works fine. I am abandoning the office and try to connect the external hard drive to my laptop Inspiron 9400. When I connect the drive via a usb cable, the disc sounds as if it's hunting and is never recognized by the laptop.  The external hard drive has its power supply on so I won't try to power it through the usb port. Any suggestions?

  • External hard drive for source files

    Windows 7. Body CC x 2014

I would like to set up a or external hard drives for source files so that I can change my laptop on the location of a specific project (that is to say, I can't use my office)

    What is the best solution?

    * USB 3 SSD

    * USB 3 at 7200 RPM hard drive

Can I use two external USB 3 drives?

Can I quote the external drive so that I have no file linking issues?  IE the volume name remains the same whenever I have to reconnect to it?

    * I ask here first of all because I have to buy the appropriate disks until I can test anything.

    Thanx.

USB3 for SSD is the fastest solution. Set both computers to use the same drive letter of the volume on the port USB3, for example of letter P for portable in disk management. For a second port USB3, you can use a different volume drive letter.

    Simple steps:

    1. Format the drive and give a volume name.
    2. In disk management, assign a drive letter, for example P.
    3. Connect the drive to another computer and repeat step 2 here.

The volume name remains unchanged and the drive letter remains the same on both computers.

Yes, you can use an external hard drive on your laptop - just connect via one of the USB ports on your machine, partition and format it in disk management, and you should be ready to go. Here is an article with the steps you can follow to do this:

  • How to get personal files on a backup external hard drive for windows 7

How to get files from a backup external hard drive for windows 7 pro. ? I DON'T WANT TO RESTORE WINDOWS 7, JUST MY PHOTOS & DOCUMENTS.    TO THANK THE TAXI 53 DRIVER

    Hello

Thanks for posting your question on the Microsoft community.

Thank you for details on the issue.

You can restore backed up files lost, damaged, or accidentally modified versions. You also to restore files individual, groups of files, or all files that you have saved.

If you are restoring files from a backup that was made on another computer, the files are restored in a folder under the user name that was used to create the backup. If the user names are different, you must navigate to the folder where the files are restored.

I suggest you use the steps in this article and check if it helps.

  • Denied access in writing to a disk external hard drive for Windows XP laptop.

I have my laptop running on Windows XP. Recently I am facing difficulties to copy the files to my portable hard drive to an external hard drive (Intenso) - the error message "Unable to create the new folder - access denied".

Surprisingly, the last time that I triedto copy some files was in December 2010 and everything worked fine. Even more surprising is that when I'm trying to copy files from my laptop to desktop hard disk Intenso I barely have problems at all! It works very well. Also, the operating system of my portable desktop is also WindowsXP.

    Tilak

It seems that the hard drive is formatted with NTFS, and you must add the "everyone" to the root of the drive with ALL the account permissions and leaves all of the subfolders will inherit this setting.

  • Using an external hard drive for backup

I used Windows backup backup all my files on My Passport external hard drive 500 mgs.  Now my files are all screwed up, and when I try to restore using Windows Vista I get an error message telling me "the disk containing the backup is not accessible.  Make sure that it is turned on and connected to the computer", but it is connected and turned on.   It appears in my computer.  But looked funny, are compressed files and I can't open them. How can I get Windows to recognize the device he used to back up my files?

Unfortunately, before I had the chance to do it, a Microsoft window pops up telling me he had to download a program to read my external backup hard drive.  Then my files were not only foires on my passport, but also on my laptop.  I was too scared to try anything else on my own at this time there and took it to a computer repair store.  They managed to find all my files and all is well.

    Thanks for your comments, anyway.
  • Upgrade hard drive for computer laptop dv6626us

I searched for the hard drive on my laptop dv6626us upgrades. When I read the comments they seem to all be positive with regard to the replacement of my current (factory loaded hard drive). One of the concerns is that the computer has been delivered to the factory with Windows XP loaded. I don't see the comments of those who have Windows 8.

Upgrading the hard drive for the dv6626us with windows xp installed at the factory would be compatible with the hard disk depending on whether I have found as being compatible for windows 8.

recommended update: Seagate portable, SSHD hydrides disk HARD 1 TB Sata-600 n/p.

The hard drive I have on the computer named above is: WD Scorpio WD1600B EVS - training 60RST0 settings: LBA 312581808.  This hard drive has been charged at the factory.

    Hello mikee1960,

HP does not have hardware support for Windows 8 on any system purchased before October 1, 2011.  Most of the Windows 7 drivers work in Windows 8.

Check out this page to see if your computer has been tested by HP with Windows 8.

You can run the Upgrade Wizard, which will scan your PC and report on what is currently installed on your PC is compatible with Windows 8.  This guide was updated for Windows 8 provides lots of information which is needed for all those planning the upgrade.

  • I've just backed up with an external hard drive for the first time, but my profile with my folders for photos, documents, and movies are not there

    Hello

So, I finally got an external hard drive. I formatted for Mac (the device has been verified as being correct), and then he started to do a backup, which stated that a full backup would take 95GB. However, it only supported 19GB.  When I have my 'open' backup drive, I saw that only 'Macintosh HD' received support upward, not my user profile with all my folders containing documents, photos, movies, etc...

I'm quite confused, because I thought that it would save.  I plan on Snow Leopard update to El Capitan, but if something is wrong or I don't like, I'm afraid that I won't be able to restore all my personal files - but only the applications that are on my Macintosh HD.

Should I delete everything in my backup disk and try again?

This is an image of what's inside my external hard drive:

You have not indicated how you have saved, if you've used Time Machine then you do things the hard way and you'll find very difficult TM. Please use the Time Machine interface to locate your saved data. You can benefit from the research on:

Use Time Machine to back up or restore your Mac - Apple, Support the section you want to find is the restoration section.

  • large external hard drive for editing fcpx

Hi, a question of two parts:

    1. I was wondering how people manage their media: is it recommended to store the middle on an external hard drive and the reference to it? Or are the libraries & projects also stored on an external drive?

    2. I have about 4 TB of video and want to buy a large external hard drive that is fast enough for 4 k video editing (with proxy or optimized media, single stream, nothing too fancy etc.). I just bought the new iMac 5 k which has connections thunderbolt.

I read a lot about love at first sight vs. speed USB3, disk hard drive gears, RAIDs etc but am not the wisest. I don't want to it is an exaggeration either.

    It would be good enough: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01BBZ4Q0C/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?ie=UTF8 & psc = 1 & smid = A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

Or is it better to use for backup and should I go for the version of TB: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00FIYJ7LG/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8 & psc = 1 & smid = A3P5ROKL5A1OLE

    Or a USB3 would be pretty quick with a double disc is RAID0? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Book-Desktop-External-Drive-WDBLWE0080JCH-EESN/dp/B00L9 0DX04/ref = pd_sim_147_4? ie = UTF8 & PSC = 1 & refRID = YFMN75KFN652T20XB40B

Price differences are pretty extreme and I know too how much of a real difference it would make to my editing.

I have trouble with my 2010 macbook pro and a portable external hard drive 5400 RPM so would avoid this situation.

    Thanks in advance!

1 - Yes, always put libraries and media on a second fast drive.  Video/audio "data streaming" can bog down the stream of data required by the operating system and the app themselves.  There is limited bandwidth between the CPU and hard drives, as your Internet connection.

RIAD 0 is quite obsolete, stay away from him.  USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt are good enough for 4K editing.  RAID is faster than the single SSD (same).  Spins disks should always be 7200 RPM, even the system drive.  5400 is far too slow.  If you go with RAID, get a 4th unit of Bay, with 7200 RPM drives in a RAID 5 configuration.  MacSales.com has excellent products.  As promises (their RAIDS of you bolt P2 are the fastest on the market) and other well known brands.  I was never a fan of the product line of My Book.
