computer does not recognize a dvd in the drive

My computer does not recognize the presence of a dvd in one of my two drives, although she acknowledges a CD.  This happens regardless of what dvd I insert.

Thank you very much

Try this;  Restart your computer before trying again the disc that plays on your DVD player.  If this does not work then there is only one possibility;  your DVD drive is DEAD and you need to replace it, or buy an external CD/DVD drive.    He comes to the end of the mystery.

  • Computer does not recognize that it is the power of the adapter, he seems to think he's still on the battery

My computer is plugged in and the battery icon shows the battery is charged.  I tried to run a test of the battery, but I get a message that the battery is fine but that a complete diagnosis cannot be executed because the adapter is not plugged in.  I checked all connections and all seem to be good.  I can work on battery power, so this isn't a problem.  What is frustrating is that I can't download any HP or Microsoft updates because the system thinks I am running on battery power.  I tried to download the update THE system BIOS and it won't download because the system thinks I'm working on the battery.

    After the foregoing:

References to Vista also apply to Windows 7.

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as is often total
a process that solves the problem.

Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.
RESTART this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a coward
cable or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both
ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and
contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD
Burn and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.
