  The WD drives seem to pose problems of my potential.  I have used other brands such as Seagate and Hitachi without running into problems with external USB drives causing the system to boot.  Maybe it's the USB adapter that I use which does not cause starting problems.

  I used the adapter HP USB 3, which uses drivers NEC or TI and has never had a problem starting via a USB external (non - WD) readers.

  I know what is already on a thread, but here it is again (i.e. thread became uncontrollable anyway and did not offer me solutions). I have an ASUS K53S laptop computer Series and use it as a desktop PC. It sits on my desk and never move, I plugged my larger screen, a keyboard and mouse, printer and external hard drive that I keep all my information on i rarely save to local disk. These things represent more than ports USB to the laptop, I have a hub 4 ports on there also. It is just background information; I mean, the laptop is a must.

  Here's the problem: when I start, as I do every morning, I used to see ASUS inspire Innovation - first of all, persistent Perfection for about 1 second, then the laptop will just get on the job and complete its start-up in about a minute (including login). Which was very good until a few days ago when things started slows down a bit, then I rebooted as I always used to with my Windows XP tour.   Windows 7 sometimes has trouble recognizing external drives connected to the USB ports. There are a number of possible corrections for this.

  My HP Pavilion a824n desktop computer won't start with my new external hard drive 2T connected via a USB port.  The computer stops on the first screen, which I think is the Intel screen, with options for press ESC, F1, F10.  But these keys do nothing.  The only way out is to press the power button until the computer turns off.

  If I disconnect the external drive before turning the power on, the computer starts normally, the internal hard drive.  After that, I can connect from the outside and it works correctly, so I don't think that there is a defect in it.

  I can get into the screen of the BIOS settings to start with the external drive disconnected and by pressing the F8 key.  But the BIOS shows adequate priority, with the hard drive screen internal first, second DVD, third CD.  The internal hard drive is correctly identified by the model number and the new external drive is not at all (because I started without the connected external.)

  My guess is that when I start with connected externally, BIOS thinks it's the hard drive, it is supposed to boot from.  How can I get the machine to boot from the internal drive?

  I would really appreciate the help. I own a satellite 1800-712. I have receently bought a usb external hard drive for some extra memory (IE Toshiba MK4026GAX USB Device)

  When I connect it to my usb port it records any with the computer. The green light so there is power to the hard drive. The usb ports recognized of other fine features (a modem and memory stick)

  I tried the external hard drive on a desktop pc and it works fine.

  I have downloaded all windows xp service pack updates and updated my bios. Don't know what to do now.

  My laptop started clicking and will boot LAN, so I opened it and looked at the hard drive. All seemed well, it wouldn't be fair to start.   Just bought a new drive to HARD drive of 250 GB to transform my L30-115 has a home server.

  My problem is when both the new HARD disk drive DVD/CD-RW drive of origin are inserted into L30, the computer crashes and I can not even get into the BIOS (I have the latest edition).

  However, when I disconnect the CD player, system boots fine in a system of operating "plain" (command-line only) - BIOS recognizes very well and everything is fine. Idem: as I disconnect the HARD drive and connect the CD player, I am able to work (for example with a live linux system).

Mac can not boot from an OS older than what they came with.
