  • HP ENVY 15 Notebook PC: Intel HD 4600 graphics driver has stopped responding and recovered after upgrade Windows 10 1511

16/11/2015 Microsoft installed automatically 'upgrade of 1511' on my Windows laptop, 10.

(This laptop has been previously successfully upgraded to window 8.1 for Windows 10 in August.)

After the upgrade of 1511, I started to receive the following error while playing at Microsoft games:

"Display driver stopped responding and has recovered - Display driver Intel HD Graphics driver for Windows 8 (R) stopped responding and has recovered."

According to Device Manager, installed upgrading driver 10.18.15.4256 dated dated 15/07/2015.  I did a restore to 10.18.15.4248 as dated 29/06/2015.  This has not solved the problem.

I checked HP Support Assistant and apply labeled sp72370 10.18.15.4248 Rev c dated 05/08/2015.  This has not solved the problem.

I am committed service HP Smart friend and they are reapplied 10.18.15.4248 via Device Manager web search pilot.  It has installed Intel Driver Update Utility 2.2, but the newer driver has not been installed because of "driver installed by manfacturer (HP).

HP support person recommended restore new to restore point before Microsoft «upgrade» 1511   I was not comfortable doing so, as 'upgrade' was an important update from Microsoft by using the same process as the initial migration of Windows 8.1 to Windows 10.  The customer can no longer control the timing of updates and upgrades are cumulative - is no longer able to choose specific updates.

For now I'm wrong to live with this error condition, as seems to have an impact on games and not other normal operations.  My laptop there one provided by HP NVIDIA Geforce GT 740 M, which is Windows compliant 10 and seems to operate normally.  Some of my apps choose the Intel driver, and others choose the NVIDIA driver.  I don't know how applications choose which one to use.

What a problem like this to be resolved when Microsoft control completely the update mechanism and HP doesn't seem to update drivers available via the HP Support on a basis common?

I've disabled the Intel HD graphics driver and used the NVIDIA graphics driver for the game.  No problem.

Disabling the driver Intel resulted in the reving fan at a higher speed intermittently.

Support for HP Smart friend assured me that the behavior of higher fan speed would not result in problems with premature failure on the road.  You agree?

They said that my choice was to keep the disabled Intel HD graphics driver and use the NVIDIA only, or living the problem until HP one releases pilot newest Intel - it affects only game, all other functions seem normal.

  • The screen flashes and goes out, error: "intel graphics driver has stopped working".

    Original title: Intel graphic driver
