Computer hangs at startup of the system

Original title: computer crashed win Defrag

I recently picked up win defrag... I have windows xp and tried to put it in safe mode, and it froze.  Now it is completely empty when I try to start :(  I removed my hardrive and crossed norton key usb connected to another computer.  It's still frozen... I'm on the right track?  How can I manually remove the infected files from another computer?  Please help-

K

Hi katkit,

1 did you stop defragmentation on the drive?
2. using Norton on another computer, were you able to remove the infected hard disk files?
3. do you get an error at startup of the system?

You are on the right track if your hard drive is infected with the virus. However if you try to do something else, then I think not that it is a good idea. After scanning of the hard drive, connect it to the computer problem and start insafe mode.

Please provide us with more details, so that we can better help you.

  • Portable CQ58, disk recovery "this computer is not supported by the system recovery media.

    Hello HP,.

I have a laptop CQ58-bf9WM, which had Windows 8.1.  The 320 GB hard drive died and bought a new SATA 500 GB laptop.  had no CD recovery, went online, enter all the important information, serial No., model #, then purchased through HP recovery disk, received the CD (manufacturer 708896-001, 708895-001 708897-001) and put #1 disc in the CD started and that's what I get: this computer is not supported by the system recovery media.  You will not be able to continue to recover this system with these media.  "Error: 0100-169-1855-188 b" then you have the OK, then when you press OK, the laptop shuts down.  I pressed ESC on POST, then I tested memory and the new hard drive and they both passed.  HELP PLEASE!  Thank you

Should not have anything to do with the new hard-both disk that is at least equal or greater than original ability, they work. It is 'possible' that you have received the wrong set of recovery.

Thing of OE to check. Enter the BIOS by pressing F10 immediately after turning on (have to press ESC, then F10 to the menu). Is the serial number, model number.etc all intact?

  • XP hangs at startup and the dialog box provides the following: a problem has prevented Windows to check exactly the State of this computer

I am rebuilding a system that has been attacked by several viruses and had to rebuild XP using the Windows installation disc.  After completing the repair, I was greeted by the XP logon screen and I tried to log in as administrator. The standard screen grass-hill appears followed by a Windows dialog box to activate product indicating "a problem has prevented windows to check exactly the State of this computer.  To keep your copy of windows must be activated with Microsoft. You want to activate Windows now? "If I choose 'No', then Windows drives me back to the login screen.  If I choose "Yes" then Windows does nothing - activation does not occur and XP does not start... the system just hangs.   I also tried to open a session without failure, but he said that I could not activate safe mode and started back me to the login screen.  I am able to get to a command prompt, if I select Mode safe mode with prompt at startup.  FYI, I am able to view the structure of this version XP Directory when I configure the HARD disk as a slave on another system drive.  Any help to resolve this matter will be highly appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem and after 2 days of searching and trying stuff found on the internet, I have solved this problem.

At my computer configuration: Windows XP sp3 with IExplorer 8, but had to go back to the repair facility after that some system files have been corrupted, do not know why.
My repair CD installation was: Windows XP sp2

In my view, the main problem is that after the installation of repair, the system obtained in conflict of existing versions of IExplorer 7 and 8. IE 7 & 8A prevented the application of activation of MS (OOBE) of working after the installation of repair, the OOBE application silently chrashed and prevented the logon process.

I couldn't connect even in safe mode, BUT with failure + command prompt, safe mode I managed to log on! So, choose the mode without failure + command promt in the trunk. Then open a session with success. Then close the command prompt and press CTRL + ALT + DEL to Task Manager. In task manager launches the new application "c:" and answer 'No' to the following question, and after an error message you c: drive open and you'll have office. You can close the System Restore Wizard who opened. Then go to c:\windows\ie7\spuninst and run spuninst.exe. Do the same to c:\windows\ie8\spuninst. After you have uninstalled both, restart windows, and after the first issue of activation, you should get the big activation dialog box.

I have spent a lot more time, because I was told that uninstall IE7 and IE8 is possible to do this via the command prompt. I did, but it has not fixed my problem. Then I tried a thousand other tricks at the same time.

Please let us now if this helped you.

  • How can I find what I need at startup of the computer programs, I went to the System Configuration, but do not know what to uncheck to stop running when the computer is started

I ran a report on my computer, in case of problems.  It detected that I needed to verify in the Configuration of the system on the programs that were running at the start of the computer.  I have several here I will list who is here, and maybe someone can tell me that I don't need at start-up.

    1 Microsoft Security by Microsoft

2 updater Java (TM) Platform SE Auto by Sun Microsystems

3 Localnet Express 3.0 - propel Software Corp. (Localnet is my provider and this express is supposed to help my computer go to websites faster)

4 Roc_Roc_NT_unknown-AVG safe search (I was told I didn't need AVG antivirus, so I deleted it out)

    5. default manager by Microsoft

6 adobe Acrobat from Adobe Systems

7 adobe Reader by Adobe Systems

    8 AVG Tray-unknown

I hope someone can help me with this takes 15 min for a loading site approx. 30 to load the game after I finally get it, then the game is frozen and won't do anything.  Even for all other sites, I'm at my wits end and don't know what to do.  I have dial up and Windows 7.  Just started having problems after getting this new service provider.

    Hello Wanda.

One command, but lets see what we can do to whittle the list down. First, dial-up internet connection is slow, so keep that in mind that we work here.

Second, almost all your startup programs are valid and advised to load at startup of Windows. Some possible changes:

    (1) If you need not a specific to Java, such as might have the game that you are trying to play, so you don't need to have it is launched at startup.

    (2) regarding the Adobe programs, why do you have Acrobat on your computer? Do you need to create PDF files? Adobe Reader which has many freeware alternatives that are faster, used to read PDF files. So if you need only to read PDF files, you can stop Acrobat from loading at startup.

    (3) other startup programs are all legitimate. And remember, just because you do not start a program at startup, does not mean that you cannot start later if you find that you don't need it.

    (4) the problems you encounter to "all sites that you visit" could be a function of malware. You don't have AVG Antivirus running on your computer just? I recommend do you a scan in depth and then put in quarantine and remove any infections it finds.

    (5) after you run the virus scan, I suggest that you try to download and run these two scanners. First MalwareBytes' Antimalware, here: http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html.  Secondly, SUPERAntiSpyware, here: http://download.cnet.com/SuperAntiSpyware-Free-Edition/3000-8022_4-10523889.html. Quarantine and remove all infections they find.

    (6) after doing this, restart your computer and see how it works. Please post your results here, and if you have any questions during this process, post here and I'll help you. Let me know how you fare.

    Kind regards

  • The computer hangs during startup until after latest upgrade of Windows 7

My new Dell has a little less than 3 months and so far has worked like a dream. It runs Windows 7. The latest Windows updates, which there were 3 were installed as I stopped last night. When I booted the pc this morning he hooked up with the following message: "Operation Applying 51 51 (\Registry\Machine\Components\...) update".

The pc reacts more than anything, so finally, I manually turned off and restarted. The system returns to a previous Restore Point. Later in the day, I turned off the pc how he downloaded 3 updates (probably the same ones again) and the same problem occurred when restarting later. The pc is running McAfee SecurityCenter, which has been pre-installed again.

Please can anyone help with advice for this problem?  Thank you.

    Peter

    Consider yourself lucky.

Because this update was 'critical', he went ahead and downloaded itself last night while I was asleep.

I woke up this morning to a glorious flashing cursor whenever I try to start.  My computer still runs beautifully, now it does not even start.

Thank God for this update, otherwise I might be able to get for the photoshops I was working on that.

Before restoring personal windows comes to talk here about starting of system restore and all the other _ with windows that never worked for me once, I already tried it.

  • After the updates of windows, the computer stops responding with a black screen at startup of the system

Original title: Windows XP does not start after the update, no error message

Has made no changes to the system, but the last thing that happened was an update of Windows security on stop.

Now when I boot, the BIOS p.o.s.t. shows good HDs, good DVD-Rom, RAM, but Windows never starts, goes just a black screen, HDs are not accessed.

-F8 does nothing, can't use the last known good Config or Mode safe

-Change boot order in the BIOS to boot from the Windows XP DVD, hoping to get the recovery console, but the same thing: black screen, no attempt to spin-up DVD or HDs.

-Removal of mobo battery to reset the CMOS, no joy.

-Checked and re checked all connections inside.

-Stripped devices and added one at a time, no joy.

-Traded-in an old video card in case it was difficult to generate the higher res gfx, no joy.

I was construction/upgrade / repair my own PC for 3 decades and can usually solve the problem and fix it myself, but this one me completely baffled.

    Any suggestions?

    Hi Cougarific,

We recommend that you repair your Windows installation in according to method 2 of this article and check the result.
See computer stops responding with a black screen when you start Windows XP

Note: When you perform a repair installation, it restores the current installation of Windows XP to the version on the installation DVD. This requires you to reinstall all updates that do not appear in this version of Windows XP disc.

  • Computer hangs at startup, when you enter the Office

I have a laptop Compaq CQ61. Whenever I connect to a profile, the computer crashes. I can't go on safe mode with network, no problem; but once I go on 'normal' start, it freezes almost instantly after logging into my account (there is no other account on the system). I tried updated/re-installing the drivers, but to no avail. I did an anti-virus (Avast) scan and nothing showed up. I run DirectX Diagnostic report, and he showed up nothing. Device Manager appears nothing unusual. However, Event Viewer gives me many mistakes in the critical, error, warning, Information, Audit success, Audit failure; However, none of them seem to directly affect the question of commissioning their playback (even briefly). Events that coincides with the start 'normally', according to the Manager of the events are wind ID 10-7000.

  • My system hangs during startup "for the first time" after running the system recovery.

    HP G62 - 227 CL

    Win 7 (64 bit)

No error message, in itself; just a screen frozen on reboot.

Months, my computer has suddenly started glitching on me.  I stopped and tried a reboot.  The system froze on start with flying colors.  System recovery tried several times but must have made a mistake because he wouldn't.  Resolved to buy a new hard drive and reinstall from the recovery disks.  Delayed unnecessarily until today, months later.

Before you buy a new hard drive, has decided to relaunch the system recovery.  It worked!  I tried the option that has deleted everything and restored to the software and factory settings.  Everything seemed to work like a charm: hard drive reformatted, reinstalled software, the system prompted me to reboot.  Yes, I did.  Windows started to boot, "Preparting your computer for first use of Setup" appears... and freezes.  For hours.  Hard drive led is off.

BTW, made sure the button Wi - Fi was on what I read on the problems of recovery if it was turned off when the program is run.

Restarted.  Press F11.  A ran maintenance and checked the hard disk for errors.  There are errors.  Unfortunately, the default setting of CHKDSK does not repair them.   A opted for a command line.  RAND CHKDSK again with option '/ f/r' seen in other posts.  Here I am too ignorant to get the program to run properly, I guess.  I ran CHKDSK on the two player X and C.  No error found... sort of.  I know they exist because the system will not start.  (Yes, I tried again.)  Return to the command prompt, I tried to run CHKDSK on the drive C again.  This time I got a message that I must first dismount (remove?) the reader.  As I don't know what that means, I opted for the 'no' and have decided to post this help message.

So.  Suggestions on what do I do then?  More specifically: How do CHKDSK to fix the errors it found?  I think the message was: "errors in $130 of the sector...". "It shows this message two times at the end of 62%.  Freezes for a long time.  Gets will still only slow down to a crawl again around 70%, but no longer.  Then returns to the start of system recovery screen.

System recovery ran again for the pleasure.  Again, seemed to work like a charm.  Unfortunately, the laptop again sits frozen at "Preparing... for first use" screen again.  It heats more turns.  The audible fan works now plans higher... If none of this helps.  I am stopping and waiting for your advice.

    Thank you!

    Zac:

My apologies for the delay to return to you.  Believe you that computer gremlins have not hit my very stable desktop which has been fine for years with sudden instability driver?  McAfee thanks for this most recent update!

In any case, after several diagnoses and find the hard drive has failed in each of them, I decided to install a new copy of Windows 7 as a test while I wait for my upcoming recovery disks in the mail.  I did it by removing all partitions on the drive and do a fresh install.  Here again, everything seemed to go well until that (apparently) a certain area of the drive was used to save/installation of the files.  Even after CHKDSK runs several times (each time he repaired several defective sectors but stalled after only 10% of the disk) the system will become unstable - the last number being a blank screen after logging on to Windows.  So, all in all, epic fail on the side of the hard drive.  The new drive is installed and waiting for my recovery disks.

Thanks for all your suggestions.  They have been a great help with information, but not with the results because of the training.

  • HP Envy: a blue screen at startup, then the system shuts down its own

When I turn on my computer, a blue screen appears and remains.  The boot sequence does not turn on and the computer shuts off after a minute or two.

Hit the ESC key after that market puts me at the page 'option '.  'Advanced options', I tried "System Restore" and "Startup Repair" or solved the problem.  Failed to start in safe mode or change the boot settings because the sequence of starting (reboot) the system is broken.

A hard system reset did not work and pushing the F2 key does not bring to the top of the page of diag sys.

At this point, it seems that the only option on the left are trying to boot from a USB device or do a Reset from the PC (keep my files)?

    Any suggestion would be appreciated.

    Thank you

It looks like you can have a hard/failed drive. If PC Reset is an option try it. If this does not work I would like to replace the hard drive and booting with recovery media to install Windows.

  • No startup or the system tray

I am running XP.  The system startup tray does not appear, including the Start button.  Wallpaper is totally naked.  Stopping with CTRL ALT DLT.  How can I restore the system down status bar?

Maybe, you could try using the Task Manager to reload the registry instead of using it to restart.

try to go to the process tab/section and kill: explorer.exe

Then go to the applications tab / section and launch new task: explorer.exe

it above works for you, then it seems that you must set up your computer, i.e. disk defrag and check the disc.

  • Error at startup of the system

    Hello

I used the product (details as below):

Product name: HP Pavilion a1210in (bought in 2005)

    Operating system: Windows XP

My computer worked perfectly well, all of a sudden when I booted the system and facing this error message:

"Reboot and select proper boot device .

"or insert a bootable media in the selected boot device and press a key.

I rebooted the system and checked in the startup configuration menu, and he showed not the hard drive. A Serial ATA drive is installed in my PC. But only 3 m-LITE-ON COMBO SOHC - 4836 K (which is the CD/DVD player combo) appears in the list of boot devices.

I removed and reconnected the cables, (hard disk SATA connection), in the processor, but it does not help as well.

What are the possible options now (Do I need to get a new hard drive, if yes, then which ones do I need?)

  • Taskbar freezes at startup of the system

    Hello
Since last week, I have problem with my windows 7 and I don't know how to solve.
    problem:
Immediately after my pc on (boot is ok) my lower left panel freezes and does not meet all clicking. Also when I open a file, I can't work with this, because it does not.
This is the only way how to fix - by pressing ctrl + alt + del. Nothing else.
I must say, that I tried to reinstall it 3 times and after each reinstallation, it has the same problem.
I tried to use the command sfc/scannow (all ok), I tried to scan the HARD drive - without errors and verification through the diagnosis of memory did not appear any errors of memory.
I don't really know what to do. This problem occurs on the own w7, x 84.

    Thanks for help

Original title: low start Control Panel freezes

    Hi Soldii,

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    • You did it any significant hardware or change software on the computer before this problem?
    • You get the error message? If Yes, what is the exact error message you get?

I can understand that the taskbar freezes when you boot your system.

It seems that some third party software startup service hinders the normal starting procedure and so you are unable to work with the taskbar.

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if the problem persists.

Try to start the system in safe mode and check if the number is reproduced. If this isn't the case, then clean the computer starts and check if that helps.

    Step 1:

Safe mode is a diagnostic mode in which you are connected with only the minimal necessary services and active pilots. Check if the number is reproduced.

Start your computer in safe mode

    Step 2:

Put your system to the clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.
How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: See "how to reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting" to prepare the computer to start as usual after a repair.

Hope this information is useful. Let us know if you need more help, we will be happy to help you.
