Computer hangs during the update of Windows 8

My laptop recently posted a message saying that he would automatically restart in 15 minutes to install a Windows Update.  After 15 minutes, it restarts and a screen will appear that says "Configuring Windows updates.  Do not turn off your computer. "He started to install, then stalled to the point 13%.  I rebooted several times, and it keeps the timing at this point.  I can't go past this screen for something else, so I have no use of the computer right now.  Y at - it a fix for this problem?  Thank you.

Hi Rebannle,

What is the brand and model of your computer?

This problem may be caused for the following reasons:

Conflicts of hardware/software.

System files are corrupt.

You can see the steps from the following thread that was answered by MikeSimmonsUK on November 7, 2012, that will help us solve the problem.

Windows 8 updates stuck at 13%. (NOTE: laptop HP - audio drivers)

If the problem persists, you can also see the steps in the following Microsoft article: Windows Update crashes when installing updates in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

Notes:

When you perform the System Restore to restore the computer to a previous state, programs and updates that you have installed are removed.

When running at Refresh: the applications that came with your PC or you installed on Windows Store will be reinstalled, but all the apps you have installed other Web sites and DVD is deleted. Windows puts a list of applications on your desktop after you refresh your PC.

Keep us informed on the status of the issue.

Needless to say, cutting the current during the update process can cause all sorts of problems - many not even related to the update itself.  It is a common branching.

Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.  I don't know if this will solve the problem, but it might.  It's worth a try (and it can be useful if there are other problems that you have not yet detected).  Whether or not it works, you will need to re - install the update (and this time won't turn off - LOL).

If you still have the problem of validation after system restore, and then click Start / computer / system properties and check the bottom of the Activation section.  Your system always shows that it is enabled?  If this isn't the case, then reactivate.  To activate manually, go to start, search, and type in slui 4 enter.  Enter your country and press Next.  You will be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes below.  Dial the number and browse automatic guests until you get to a human being.  Have your handy product code because it will be asked.  Explain the situation, but it's the same PC.  They should give you a code to enter on this screen to activate Vista.

If this does not resolve the "not genuine" message, please post your problem in the Windows Genuine Advantage Forum: http://social.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/genuinevista/threads , where the experts on this kind of problem will be more than happy to help you with your problem.  They will probably ask you to run a program and download the results so they can examine in order to find the problem - just follow their instructions.

    I hope this helps.

  • Way around being hung to one outlet during the update of Windows Vista Service Pack 2?

I have a problem, I have a laptop Toshiba where AC internal adapter is broken, it has been for some time - but my buddy has also a Toshiba laptop computer, where I can just return for batteries between the two and this system has worked fine just now, the problem - I could do my Windows updates business as usual until Service Pack 2 for Vista, it will not allow the installation of the update because my laptop is on battery.  Is there a way to get around this?  I have of course no way to connect to food unless it is repaired, and at this point I just prefer to get a new laptop that money put into this one - I'm hoping somewhere someone has suggestions! :(  Help!  Thank you!

    Hello Victoria MariaElena.

Unfortunately, there is not another way. Your laptop must be powered by the sector during the update to avoid the laptop shut down due to lack of battery power.

However, this morning at the start, I had the 'salvation, while have been implemented... "message, etc.  Weird, I thought... but then I logged as usual.  Applications and the home screen are at the default value.  I looked in my library to find that my documents = disappeared; music = disappeared; pictures = disappeared; downloads missing =

I'm not a happy Bunny, nor apparently I'm the first person that this has happened.  I looked around and used the advice on this thread: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-system/windows-8-update-deleted-my-files-in-all-libraries/661520e2-8009-4f14-bfcf-e9ef3375be61

Although there was no error message for the library, I deleted and tried to restore default libraries... NOTHING.  Seriously, it's like they were never there yet.  I can face the been thing, the pictures are on facebook and the music I can download it again, but I'm in the middle of writitng a very important personal statement for the University and I am afriad my months of agonizing hard work disappeared, just as I am able to apply.

I did restore the several points system and system repair, and nothing helps. System restore failed and system repair said everything was fine.

  • HP Pavilion 23: computer hangs during the boot process

Computer updates been made 2 days ago and has frozen black screen. Now does not start at the top. Starts the process and then freezes. He did start once yesterday and was going well for a few hours, then got a message saying computer had a problem.

    Error message:

    SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (atikmdag.sys)

Now back to not start upward again, hangs with the HP logo on the screen.

    Hi there @ldgie25.

That the Forums are with you!  I understand that, after a few updates, your computer does not start correctly and freezes on the HP logo.   I'm happy to help you with this.

Since it was started once, but then had a blue error screen, I suggest using the computers HP - use Microsoft System Restore (Windows, 10, 8).   Follow the instructions in the section «restore your computer when Windows is unable to boot normally»  See if it will start normally after the restoration. If yes then you probably want to prevent the offending update to install again.

Please see the following for how to do this:

  • Computer hangs during the transfer of 16 jpeg files.

Recently, I replaced my Toshiba Satellite M40 PATA hard drive and reinstalled Windows XP SP3.  Subsequently, I find transfer more than 16 jpeg files (approx. 1 MB each) at the same time causes the computer freezes.  I have to shut down the computer and restart and sometimes the computer is 'always' Hung/frozen after restarting Windows (mouse move no keys, ctrl + alt + delete work does produce no action) which necessitated my stop down and restart the computer again.

This problem occurs during various methods of transfer-to transfer pictures from my card SD using the scanner and camera or Nikon transfer software, trying to copy and paste pictures from the SD in an empty folder, and the problem occurs even when I try to spend more than 16 images from a folder in another.  I tried to transfer images from a folder with the computer in safe mode and the problem occurs when I try to transfer a little more than 16 images at once.  (my SD card, has about 60 images on that.)  There is no error message or any other message - the computer simply crashes.

I did not have this problem before reinstalling XP.  There seems to be no limit to the size of the transfer that I could perform. I can't wait to find out how I can remedy this problem.  I am familiar with writing code, check the registry, etc, but I'm good enough following the simple procedures.  Thank you for your help.

Original title: file transfer causes XP to hang, no error message

    Hi RobertMorouney,

Thanks for posting in the Microsoft Community.

In addition, how are you doing today?

You have a problem with the computer hung on the transfer of files on Windows XP. This can be very frustrating for you, and I appreciate the efforts you have put in. Let us work together as a team and try to get this fixed number.

    Method 1-

    Step 1-

Trying to transfer files in Mode without failure.

    Check out the link-

To start the computer in safe mode

    http://www.Microsoft.com/resources/documentation/Windows/XP/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true

Note: Make sure that you get the computer back to Normal Mode after performing all the troubleshooting steps.

Proceed to step 2, if the problem does not occur in Mode without failure.

    Step 2-

I recommend you perform the clean boot.

Placing the computer in a boot minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must perform the steps in the article-

How to configure Windows XP to start in a "clean boot" State

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/310353

Note: Make sure that get you the computer to a Normal startup after performing all the troubleshooting steps.

    Method 2-

I wish that you run a Chkdsk command on the computer.

    Check out the link-

How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/315265#Method1

Note: The Chkdsk command will try to fix bad sectors on the hard drive. All the data on these sectors may be lost. The computer could go to a State no boot as well. Proceed at your own risk.

  • Computer freezes during the update of the BIOS

I have a hp pavilion dv5-1170ei and he had problems with the audio and the quick launch buttons after the upgrade to Windows 7. I decided to update the bios, because it was the only thing that I had not updated. Now, the computer is frozen with the update of the BIOS still running. I had the same problem with a dv5-1199ei and it worked fine after upgrading the BIOS. Either way, I upgraded from Vista Home premium to Win 7 Ultimate.

I don't know what to do.

    Help!

I had the same problem of problem freezing the computer during BIOS update. I have a HP Pavilion DV5 laptop 1126ee. When I update the bios, I don't notice her latest version of the bios installed on my system. I tried several ways of the various positions in the HP support forum. But I couldn't boot my system. Finally I could start my system. find the steps I did: -.

I first create a crisis recovery HP 2 GB USB key

downloaded Bios F.16A file on the HP (for HP DV5 1126ee) support site

Then copied 3602F16. FD AND 3603F16. FD TO USB

and renamed its copy to 3602.BIN, 3603.BIN, 3602.WPH, 3603.WPH, 3602F16. BIN, 3603F16. BIN. All files in the same USB BIOS.

Then I unplugged the power and removed the battery.

Insert USB drive into the system, Hold Windows + B button, plugged in the power and turned on the laptop. When the USB key is charge flashing I took out the key combination. Then I heard a unique single beep (before checking time is 2 + 1 beep and continuous beep). After the shutdown of the system 2-3 minutes automatically. Then I removed the USB and turn on the system. Now my system works perfectly.

    With our thanks,

    -Noushad

  • E5-571 news froze during the update of windows

Hi, my 5 E5-571 days old froze during windows update last night, left on the screen to update from one day to the next, had not changed by the morning, had to close it using the manual key, lit a few hours later, still stuck on the same screen to update, but no progress on the update.

Call the customer support service, informed it was due to an accumulation of static electricity, said to unplug the power cable, press and hold the button to exhaust excess electricity, then plug in and turn on with a press of the button as usual.

    Computer worked after that.

I was wondering if this sounds an alarm for other Acer users? Has anyone else had the same problem, and it is called a recurring problem? Is this a known in the community of acer solution (unplug and press the start button to get rid of static correction)?

Would be happy to hear the answers!

    Yes, I know difficult.

    nothing to worry too much.

    Hello

    1. remember you number updates that have been installed?

First check to see if there are external devices attached to the computer, if so remove and check.

    Method 1.
Let us run repair system at this stage, it might solve the problem.

Note: When the diagnosis is complete, don't forget to reset your computer to normal startup. Follow step 7 in the above article.

    Method 3.
I recommend you to restore system using a Windows 7 DVD.

    Here's how:
To open the Options menu system recovery using a system repair disc or a Windows 7 installation disc
If your system is damaged and cannot access the menu system on your computer Recovery Options, you can access it using the Windows 7 installation disc or a system repair disc previously.
To use this method, you need to restart (boot) your computer using the disk.
    a. Insert the disc.
    b. restart your computer using the power button on the computer.
    c. If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc.
o If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or a DVD, see the documentation provided with your computer.
    d. choose your language settings, and then click Next.
    e. If you are using the Windows installation disc, click on repair your computer.
    f. Select the Windows installation you want to repair, and then click Next.
    g. in the System Recovery Options menu, click a tool to open it and then choose the system restore and check.

If we are able to boot to the desktop now, I would ask you install the updates one by one andcheck the update is at the origin of the conflict.
