Computer is stuck on the screen updates

You just bought a Dell desktop computer new with Windows 7 64 bit installed.  Fired all my files, pictures, etc installed printers, scanner. Now 2 days later, I hit restart and a screen pops up saying update 42 55 it stuck there.  After 10 hours, I tried to restart and got the same screen.  I then tried to reboot in safe mode using the F8 key, this does not work either.  Then, I turned off the machine and tried to restart with the rescue disk, I created the day I got the machine.  Just, it goes back to the screen updating and is sitting there with the small circle twirling away!  How can I solve this problem?

When the first system boot, before Windows loads (the first thing that appears when Windows starts to load is the update progress screen), there should be a page that tells you what button to push to access the settings configuration (Setup) or start-up.

Make sure there is no Dell page appear when the system first boots , which shows the key you need to press to enter the boot or configuration setttings?

Since you have No message from the system model that I asked, tried by pressing the F2 key when you turn on the system.

If the update progress screen appears instead of the startup configuration, shut down, reboot and try the F10 key.

If none of these keys work, then you will need to contact Dell.

My computer is stuck in the screen that lets you choose Safe mode or start normally. When I choose that it just goes back to the same screen. stuck in this screen

If there is a problem starting, XP is configured to automatically try to start again and you can stuck in a loop not being able to go beyond the screen boot options, or none of these startup options you choose will work only.

Sometimes, when XP has a problem starting or falls down and tries to start again, it will give you a "short" menu of boot options and none of them will appear to be good to get your system going again.  You have tried them all!

The options are similar to the Advanced Boot Options menu XP, but the only option that you need (disable automatic error system reboot) are not offered, because XP went too far during the boot process and offers a limited number of boot options.

If this is the case, you must call Options menu advanced boot yourself until you do not see the option:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

When you get the XP Advanced Options correct start menu you want to see, he has options on it like these:

    Safe mode
    Safe mode with networking
    Safe mode with command prompt

    Enable Boot logging
    Enable VGA mode
Last good Configuration known (your most recent settings that worked)
Directory Services Restore Mode (Windows domain controllers only)
    Debug mode
Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

    Start Windows normally
    Reset
    Return to OS Choices Menu

You need to choose in this menu is the option:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

Then if XP does not start normally, you will see an error screen with information and clues about the problem and then you can decide what to do next.

If you do not see the automatic restart on system failure option turn it off, you must reset your system and start typing the key F8 on the keyboard until you see her disable automatic restart on system failure option.

If you miss the window of opportunity F8, you must try again and start tapping the F8 key with more urgency (earlier and more frequently) until you see disable automatic restart on system failure, and then select.

You must keep trying the F8 menu until you see disable automatic restart on system failure option, and select it.

If your system has a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), we need to know what the screen says:

Here's a BSOD example showing information you provide:

    http://TechRepublic.com.com/i/tr/downloads/images/bsod_a.jpg

Send for the nose and the Red arrows (3 to 4 lines total).

Send all * line STOP message since there are clues in the 4 parameters.

If it looks like there is some kind of name listed in the STOP message file, send this line also.

Ignore the boring text unless it seems important to you.  We know what a BSOD looks like, we need to know what your BSOD looks like.

Answering queries and results report of the disable automatic restart on system failure screen and you can decide what to do next.

Pressing F8 does nothing. I tried to restart. I can not open troubleshooting because the computer is stuck on the same screen. If you don't mind not to lose your files, turn the system off.

Turn off the computer.  The next step, you will hear a shrill signal strong.  Be prepared.

Press 0 (zero) key and power up the computer

Key 0 (zero) when the recovery warning screen

Press the F12 key during the appearance of the Toshiba logo

You should then see the Start Menu

You should be able to create a recovery media.  Once you have installed Windows, click Search > Type recovery

If this isn't the case, I suggest that order you them from Toshiba.

  • Stuck on the screen of HP recovery and cannot start windows

    HP Pavilion

If you need the serial number or the fn, just ask. I didn't post too much sensitive information.

It was originally 10 64-bit windows... but now has 8.1 Windows 64-bit
    i5 8gig of RAM processor

Literally just close the lid and open it upwards and it wouldn't boot windows. It is stuck at the screen HP saying it's diagnose my problem. Tried a soft reset and a hard reset when you remove the battery and put it again while it is unplugged. Did not help. I can't start in safe mode. I tried to do a restore which has been a success but it restarts when he says "there was a problem, restart your PC. I'm frustrated and reset a factory and the same factory reset was successful and was when he came back to 8.1 because it's the OS, I bought it with but then it still wouldn't let me in windows. I was going to try and start to repair, but if I had known this would require an administrator I'd never have done the factory reset. I know I've been reckless, but I just wanted to work. But yes, I don't know what the problem is. I feel like if it was a hardware problem is just something to keep windows to operate. Should I try a repair disk? Would that help?

    The SecretLight

    Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post you need to grab your laptop and wanted to help - but we need more information.

You said that your laptop came originally with Win10, but then later, you said you tried to go back to Win8.1, you can then said, it's the original OS.

So, who was the original - Win8.1 or Win10?

Ask because if it came with Win8.1 and you UPGRADED to Win10, while Microsoft tells you that there is no risk in the upgrade of Win10, because they allow you to believe that you can always go back to your original OS and setup within 30 days, the ugly matter faction is that the Win10 GoBack feature turned out to be unreliable - and when it fails She can let the machines in a corrupt State - which is not always the case, it happens often enough to be a problem, but you will get no warning beforehand that he goes to the trash your PC!

The Win10 upgrade is known, in some cases, corrupt the partition of recovery that are stored by the OEM that built the original machine.  It's pretty much guarantee that no HP recovery will work.

What will work restores your computer to its original factory state using HP recovery media. It is a set of DVD and a CD or a USB key, which will erase the hard drive (removing all data, applications and settings, reinstall the original OS, drivers and utilities for HP. In some cases, you will be able to order a USB instead of discs.  You must order at HP; they cannot be downloaded.

You can look online for recovery from the paged media related: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, enter your product name or number. On your software page and download the drivers, select your operating system and version. Click on "Update".  If the HP recovery support is available for your computer, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for the command Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click on the symbol '+' to expand this entty and click on order to press for more details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the United States or the Canada, details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: once you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to someone ' one - it can take a while!

    Good luck

  • Stuck at the screen of the POST - R500

I have a R500 that one of my users has me just. It is stuck on the screen of the POST (ThinkPad splash) and does not respond to any keys pressed. I tried holding down the blue button "ThinkVantage" while turning on and still no response.

I pulled the hard drive and plugged into another machine to be excluded as a possible problem. Which works very well. It seems that the system must be suspended during any of these POST I can't even access the start menu or the BIOS settings.

Any help would be greatly appreciated so that I can get this user online.

A quick search on Google and I've already found my solution. A broken USB port is to blame. Looks like it's a problem on early model R series machines. Here is a link to the post where I found my solution.

  • B1 - 710 stuck on the screen 'formatting data"after trying to do a factory reset.

After occassionly gel to start the past two weeks, causing necessary reboots, the tablet in a loop start.  The last time this happened, about a year, a factory reset solved the problem. This time, however, the Tablet is stuck on the screen layout of the data. Now, even holding the volume up button and the power button on the system goes back to the screen set data formatting and nothing else happens.

Is it possible to retrieve the tablet or is - this one probably a hardware problem?

It seems a hardware problem, to be honest, but may also be a corruption of OS/recovery if you are still under warranty, support Acer a call.
