Computer will not activate after installing XP SP2 repair

I see a lot of people have posted on this subject, and some have set.  I did a repair of an old computer installation.  At the start, it says I need to activate my copy of XP.  It just hangs.

I can boot into safe mode (but not with networking).  I followed the 312295 article, which had me do the following

1 regedit-localmachine-software... - winnt - winlogon - notify delete RESETS (there was none this entry, so I didn't do anything)

2... regedit wpaevents OOBETimer 'Edit' (don't know what you mean about a hex file editing, so I just delete a line)

3 renamed WPA.dbl

4 extended wpa.db_ from wpa.dbl installation disc (ran OK)

5 looking for any reset5.* or srvany.exe (no current)

6 restart the computer.

The same problem.   Still will not start.  Any other ideas?

Some recommend to replace IE 8.  I'm certainly willing to do that - except my installation disc is a version of SP2.   So, how can I get a version of SP3 to install in safe mode?   (I download from another computer, but I don't know which version to get).

Why I installed? There was no failure, but because after 8 years of use the computer was bogged down so he could barely work.

But if this was justified is besides the point, because it is already done.

I installed SP3.  I Redid the things listed above.

I still get the message saying to activate windows and it crashes whenever I try.

So I took the advice of others, installed IE8 in safe mode.  Upon restart, it worked!  (An arisen window asking me to activate, I said yes and it worked.

This window looked like IE8 material - probably at the heart of the problem.

Problem solved.

Vista and Windows 7 updated drivers love then here's how update the most important.

This is my generic how updates of appropriate driver:

This utility, it is easy see which versions are loaded:

-Free - DriverView utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system.
For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver,
Description, version, product name, company that created the driver and more.

For drivers, visit manufacturer of emergency system and of the manufacturer of the device that are the most common.
Control Panel - device - Graphics Manager - note the brand and complete model
your video card - double - tab of the driver - write version information. Now, click on update
Driver (this can do nothing as MS is far behind the certification of drivers) - then right-click.
Uninstall - REBOOT it will refresh the driver stack.

Repeat this for network - card (NIC), Wifi network, sound, mouse, and keyboard if 3rd party
with their own software and drivers and all other main drivers that you have.

Now in the system manufacturer (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) site (in a restaurant), peripheral
Site of the manufacturer (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI, for example) and get their latest versions. (Look for
BIOS, Chipset and software updates on the site of the manufacturer of the system here.)

Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - right click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after
    each installation.

Always check in the Device Manager - drivers tab to be sure the version you actually install
presents itself. This is because some restore drivers before the most recent is installed (sound card drivers
in particular that) so to install a driver - reboot - check that it is installed and repeat as
    necessary.

Repeat to the manufacturers - BTW in the DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER device - check

Please let me know, how to start the laptop.

    Hello GoogleGuru,
Thank you for visiting the Microsoft Answers forum.
Because your computer does not start until the desktop computer, we were able to try the system restore to a point before you install SP2.
Thus, with the computer is shut down. Press the power button, then press on and press F8 until you see the startup options, and then it will give you the ability to boot to the last known good configuration. (select it).

If this does not work, you can try to boot from the Vista DVD and use the recovery console to perform a restore of the system to another point in time.

    Post back with the results.

  • Pavilion dv6: Intel Centrino Wireless - n 2230 will not activate after the upgrade to Windows 10

    Model A3E82AV number

I've been avoiding Windows 10 because I knew something like this was going to happen, but I took the pludge.  Anyway, everything seemed to work but my wireless adapter.  After the upgrade, the rocker on the keyboard turns on and outside airplane mode, and I can't switch to map wireless in Windows settings.

I can get wireless adapter to turn on, go into that in a minute, but if I shutdown or reboot, the problem returns.

I had success in the driver update, or by manually installing the driver, I even read a tip to make the battery, hold the power button down while the battery is out and run it upwards.  I tried to reset the BIOs to default settings.  When the computer feels like it, the wireless adapter will start working after a reboot.  If I have the toggle switch, the light goes from orange to white, I can then activate wireless and connect to my SSID.  If I stop or restart, my wireless NETWORK card no longer works and we return to the toggle keyboard turning power on and off airplane mode.  Device Manager says it is working normally and the drivers are up to date.

I read a post from microsoft that says VPN adapters could cause corruption while making the upgrade.  I'm a professional, so I got a handful of cards, but also virtual cards VMWare Workstation installed, so I tried to come back to Win 7, remove the adapters, are re-upgrade.  It does not solve the issue.  While I was back in Windows 7, everything worked most of the time, but there were some problems with the programs, etc. which would not work right.  When I upgraded to Windows 10, some of these problems persist, so I checked my backups to make sure they were up to date and did a new install of windows 10.  I am now running a new image with just firefox, associate of HP and the different drivers Intel, I tried to install, and I still can't get the card wireless to tour consistantly on / off power after a reboot.  I thought for sure the nuclear option could solve the problem now I can't even go back to Windows 7.  I did mention to try some recommended drivers Intel, I found in other posts... I also tried to uninstall the driver, and install in compatibility mode, but that has not worked, either.

This one had me scratching my head.  I tried literally everything I can find on the internet in an attempt to solve the problem, and nothing will keep the work of consistantly wireless NETWORK card.  Any other ideas out there?

Looking at the forums, appears not to have a lot of people in all areas of this issue with different brands of computers and network interface cards.  If anyone knows anything else to try, I would really appreciate it.

    FIXED!

I think so.  I downloaded and installed the bios for Windows 8.  After that, I managed shutdown and booted my laptop 3 times and restarted once.  Every time you start after the installation of the firmware BIOs, the card automatically turned on and connected to my SSID NETWORK.  Since the upgrade to Windows 10 I saw not the laptop automatically start and connect the wireless NETWORK card and he did successfully 4 times now.

The file that I downloaded from the HP Web site was update the BIOs for Windows 8 version F.2D rev A.  The file name is sp68425.  I will continue to monitor and make sure that it was indeed the fix, but all great so far.

For people who can run on the same topic, here's a recap of what I did to solve my problem:

    Centrino 2230 installed 15.18.0.1 driver
    Update driver Bluetooth 10.0.10586.0

Updated the BIOS to the version of Windows 8 F.2D Rev A

If you decide to play with the BIOs firmware, just be aware that if things go well, you could cause more damage to your system.  I would only try this method if you are uncomfortable for the recovery of a faulty BIOS installation.

  • Reference Dell 926 printer will not print after installing Windows 7

After the upgrade to Windows 7 my 926 printer will not print. I followed the suggestions found here (unplug the printer on the wall, remove the brick, low load patch R166248 to delete the printer, the latest driver to load, R146832 dated 26/01/07, reboot). Restarts, driver going through complete installation process then I get an error at the end of the process, "the Dell Photo 926 Printer printer driver is not installed". I did this several times. In addition, I restarted the spooler to print several times. No luck. Additional suggestions on how I can get my 926 to work with Windows 7?

    Greg,

I think that we all regret our first wedding, well most of us.

Removal of print jobs is a way of really nice to get rid of your documents. After you restart your computer, you should be able to run the fix, Manual printer removal driver and restart once more. Try it to install the Vista drivers in compatibility mode, I used Vista SP2.

Right click on the file setup.exe, on the left, click Properties, compatibility of the left click. Change Vista compatibility. Then, install the appropriate drivers. You will be asked when connect (printer)

To install the drivers, sometimes the file decompresses and does nothing. You must find the setup.exe file, right-click on it, then on the left click on run as administrator *.

  • Computer does not start after installing a new graphics card

I am owner of a HP Pavilion H8-1020 with a processor intel i7 - 2600 s Windows 7 and am trying to upgrade my Radeon hd 6570 to a Gigabyte AMD Radeon R9 280 OC. I improved my diet for a Corsair CX750 to meet the requirements of power and installed with number. After the installation of the new card, which as far as I can tell is well seated in the pci slot and correctly connected to the PSU, my computer does not start.

System powers on, all fans of begin to run including the fans on the new graphics card, but it does not begin the boot process, no entry is received at my monitors, no light on the keyboard, my OS starts loading, I can turn off the system without the delay that will flow normally. Then I reinstalled my old graphics card and the computer started as usual.

Now, assuming that the card is not DOA, which unfourtunatly I have no way to verify, and I'd like to see if it could be another problem before going through the process of restitution. I did some reading on the internet, which helped, but did not help for a technological neophyte like me.  Now, I know a few things that could cause this problem but lack the necessary skills to determine what question is making me. What I've read, these could be possible questions:

1: my new graphics card is not compatible with my motherboard. It's something I know now that I should have checked before buying and something I should theoretically be able to do it now, but I am at a loss on how to do it. My card is compatible with my motherboard?

2 could be a BIOS problem. I updated my bios driver with the version provided by the HP site. I am running FRIEND 7.16 05/10/2011.  And from what I've read it might have something to do with my bios to UEFI mode and I would need to go to a legacy mode so he can recognize a new device, is it true? I am extremely wary of messing with my BIOS settings for fear of bricking my system. How can I check my current BIOS settings are and what I should change and how would approach I change them? Will one of these changes affect my system if they are not what is not causing the problem?

In addition to these issues, anyone know any other matter which may be the cause of the problem that I should look for? Thanks for any help.

    Hello @Eric_Z,

I can see why you are having problems with your new graphics card, and to get to the fast response that your motherboard is not compatible with the new graphics card that you have purchased. And here's why.

Your motherboard according to the page HP Pavilion HPE h8-1020 Desktop PC product specifications is the Carmel motherboard, which has the following expansion slots:

    • A PCI Express x 16
    • Three PCI Express x 1 connectors
    • A PCI Express Mini Card x 1

As there is no version indicated for your PCI Express x 16 it slot means that it is version 1.

Now, your previous graphics card was a PCI Express 2.1 x 16, which means that it was version 2 and compatible with your PCI Express x 16 slot on your motherboard. However, the new card is PCI Express 3.0 and will not work in your motherboard due to a compatibility break. While the technology is supposed to be compatible there are many cases where it is not, and I'm afraid that you meet one of these cases.

I am offering an overclock.net article entitled: the final answer to the controversial compatibility of PCIe x 16 version. where your situation has been tested and examined.

I hope this helps. Have a great day and thank you for display on the HP Forums!

In the Boot Options menu advanced F8, choose this option and describe the results:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

Let us know if you do not see this option in the Advanced Boot Options menu.

You will not get far if you can't start something, so if you have a CD/DVD player, do you have a bootable XP Recovery Console in order to have room for manoeuvre, boot on the CD, run chkdsk /r and then you can start solving the problem (instructions below).

You are once started in the Console recovery XP and after running chkdsk/r, then you will be able to see if KB324764 will help you.

Please provide additional information on your system:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the command prompt.

Start by checking the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.  It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

Do, or do not. There is no test.

After you restart during the installation, I got the blue screen of death with a STOP 0x000000F4 error code. I can't use my phone at all now, and it will not work in SafeMode either. I tried to restore the computer to before that Kaspersky was installed but it cannot do so. I tried to restore to the last known good configuration, but that did not work. I have no idea what to do now. My laptop is basically useless now and I am very angry.

If I have the Kaspersky disk in I kind of access Kaspersky, and it keeps telling me it is obsolete and must be updated, but it will not be updated. Also, it tries to mount the drives or something and gets stuck trying to create the swap file. I don't know if it's important, but I'll post it anyway.
I'm at a loss to know what to do...

If you have tried to install an AV program after your PC has been infected you left it too late.

Your safest option is to use your recovery discs to get destructive if you plant (make sure that the external devices are disconnected during this process)

I hope that you, the data has been saved you will lose everything on the PC

Once recovered allow windows update to do its thing for Important updates ONLY. It may take several reboots.

If any update fails cure this problem before doing anything else.

Once the update finished visit of manufacturers of laptop for important driver updates to update necessary.

Only after this has been done, you should start installing software or external devices.

If an installation fails, solve this problem before

Everything is plugged in right and the video card turns on. It will not be output to the screen tho and the computer does not start!

I fixed it, the problem was the safe boot in my bios, when I disabled the system booted and worked perfectly since! Thanks for the advice tho!
