Computer will not be put into hibernation when I close the lid

I have a problem with my laptop. It is a series of Toshiba C55. When I close the lid it will not be in hibernation, even if I set power options to do so. This happens not all the time, but it happens enough that it's boring. If I close the lid and it will not be in hibernation, which means that it is in danger of overheating if I put in my backpack. If I use the start menu, it just goes to the lock screen, that's what I suspect it is when I close the lid. Help on that would be great.

Hello Michael,

Please keep us updated on the status of the issue.

I appreciate your time and your efforts.

I suggest you to update BIOS and drivers from the chipset and check the issue.

Please update the chipset drivers from this link:
http://cdgenp01.CSD.Toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/tc50157200c.exe

Update the BIOS from this link:
http://cdgenp01.CSD.Toshiba.com/content/support/downloads/scf6v140.exe

Note: Changing the BIOS / semiconductor (CMOS) to complementary metal oxide settings can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from starting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes of the

the settings are at your own risk.

I hope this helps.

Thank you

  • Windows 8 do not sleep when I close the lid

I just got the Elitebook 850 G1 and I put all the parameters of sleep when I close the lid and wake up when I open it. I checked the two settings in windows and in the BIOS and it's all good, but when I do actually, he does not wake up but restarts the computer instead. So when I was away typing on Word, fortunately I constantly save it but it's not back to where I left off. I thought it was one of the graphic drivers first, because he has dual graphics, intel and ati. He had a few problems with the ATI card, but I think that I fixed it. I am running windows 8.1 Pro.

    What can I do else?

    Edit:

I tried changing the settings to hibernate instead, and what he gave me was a BSOD.  Video_dxgkrnl_fatal_error. I remember that what made the first time I tried to do it before when he was on the way 'sleep'. any suggestions?

is not serious, I fixed it. It turns out that the new graphics driver intel was the culprit. I had to revert to a previous version. works perfectly now

  • Computer locking when I close the lid

I have a laptop sony vaio vgn-aw290. When I got it after you have configured the fingerprint reader it would lock the computer when I closed the lid. If I close and open it immediately and it would make me a password. He wouldn't buy support standby or hibernation, it would simply lock the computer. recently, we went to panama, fl on vacation and this feature no longer works. don't know why or how or exactly when. I looked through the settings and power options and may not know how to re - set parameters to lock the lid closed. I also have an HP that has begun to stay unlocked when I close the lid. I would like to know how to configure it to crash when the lid closes, so I don't need the screen saver locks with a password to send it in stand-by or press win + L before I close the lid.

    Hi Mr. Folse,.

Thank you for visiting Windows Vista Microsoft answers forum.

You can follow the procedure below to change the Power Options.

    1. Click Start, then Control Panel.

2 double click on Power Options.

    3. under "Advanced", set the option "When I close the lid of my portable computer" according to your preferences.

If the steps above fail then I suggest to run a system restore to a date when the option was working properly.

To restore the operating system to an earlier point in time, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, type system restore in the search box, and then click System Restore in the list programs.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. in the System Restore dialog box, click on choose a different restore point and then click Next.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

    4. click on finish.

  • When a close the lid of my portable computer Windows Media Player stops, and when I open it, it picks up.

When a close the lid of my computer laptop wmp stops and when I open it, it resumes. This only happens on the battery. I have it set to not sleep, and there is no screen saver. I want to use my cell phone as an mp3 player without having to leave the lid open. is there anyway to prevent a break?

original title: WMP stops when the lid is closed

Open Power Options - you can do it from the control panel by typing Power Options in the start menu, or by right click on the battery icon in your system tray (right end of the taskbar.)
Click on "change plan settings" for your current power management.  On the next page, click "Change advanced power settings".  On the box that opens, expand 'Power buttons and lid', then 'action close cover.'  Change the selection to "on battery" to the 'status quo', and then click OK.  Close the power Plan window.

This is probably controlled by the power settings. Once you enter the power settings there should be an option something similar to 'change the closure of the hood '. There are probably several options such as sleeping, ect...

  • When I close the lid on my MBP, it goes to "Standby" to "Hibernate" why?

My MacBook Pro for six years had been working perfectly until about a month earlier, when he stopped to stay in Mode standby when I closed the lid.

With the lid closed, initially, he goes to sleep, but after about 30 seconds, it goes into hibernation mode and to turn on again, I have to press the power button. I then get a grey screen and no use of the trackpad. Shortly after, the gray screen disappears and the machine works perfectly.

The battery life is very good (68%), I have reset the SMC and I have not loaded the new software. The only thing I can think is that this started to occur at the time of the last update of Safari.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Comments or suggestions are appreciated.  Thank you.

    Hello, Spring Lake Bob!

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. After reviewing your post, I understand that your MacBook Pro sleeps as expected when you close the lid. Instead, it goes into a hibernation mode that requires you to press the power button to interact with him again. I certainly understand wanting to make sure that the computer sleeps when it should wake up how it should. I'd be happy to help you!

Get help with your situation, I would say using the article below the link to help isolate and solve the problem of sleep.

  • When I close the lid on my laptop, random programs begin to run.

    1. so here's the deal:

    I have laptop Dell XPS L502X in Win7 Pro;

    b. out of nowhere, and all of a sudden the next irritating problem started havoc. When I close the lid on my laptop at night, random programs begin to run. The desktop icons move into other folders or the trash. It changes the size of the larger icons... it changes even the settings 'snap to grid '.

2 until you tell me to turn it off or put it to sleep extended mode... I need to let you know that I need to leave the mobile "awake" so that it downloads my incremental changes to Carbonite cloud, as well as my local/resident of mirror [Carbonite] drive.

3 oh yes: I also went up to disable the 'mouse' integrated glidepoint device, too: same result... madness.

4 I jumped every hoop I can think... to run the diagnostics runs each available from Norton 360 scan... Online / remote - to both Norton AND Microsoft support.

When I close the lid of my new laptop Inspiron I don't get the emails.  I also do not receive if the lid is open and I have not used the computer for a while. Can you still get emails on outlook while your computer is in mode 'sleep'?
