  My laptop was recently infected by a rather nasty virus that stopped me being able to open my anti-virus (avast) software in order to get rid of it. There was a lot of other programs I could not open the internet including Explorer. I left my computer for a few days and decided to buy a system restore software to completely erase my hard drive. I was quoted £50 so I decided to have a last date. I started windows in safe mode and miraculouly managed to open avast this time, I did a full scan and 9 infected files deleted.
  All the virus seems to have disappeared, but there are a few remaining problems. Now, whenever I turn on my computer windows starts in safe mode (even when I select the option to start windows normally). Windows Explorer keeps not working and closure (for example, when I try to go to the control panel) and my laptop will not connect to internet broadband in my house.
  Is it possible that I deleted some important system files while getting rid of the virus, or everyone recognizes it as something else? I'm scared, I'm just a normal user, and I don't know too much about computers so please go easy on me.
  I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer.

  iMac works fine in safe mode, but in normal mode, it freezes constantly, the wheel that turns, the freezing of the apps, and when I try to restart, it gets stuck. I have to hard reboot.   If you have any type of antivirus, cleaning or ANY other third party maintenance application installed, please find the developers instructions and uninstall. At best, these types of applications are 100% useless and at worst they cause more harm (similar to what you are experiencing) than good.

  If you don't have one of these types of applications installed, run a report of EtreCheckof your system. We then look for obvious problems. Please click on the link, download the application and run the report. Once you have the report, please copy and paste into your response to this post.

  Do you know when this problem started?  Try a system restore to a point in time BEFORE the problem started.  Here is the procedure: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/using-windows-vista-system-restore/.  Don't forget to check the box to show more than 5 days of restore points.  If the first attempt fails, then try an earlier point or two.  NOTE: You will need to re - install any software and updates that you have installed between now and the restore point, but you can use Windows Update for updates.

  If the system restore does not work, do a startup repair, boot from the disk Installation of Windows Vista genuine (or one that you can borrow from someone) or a recovery disc.  Here is the procedure: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html.  You may need to change the BIOS to do first the CD drive in the boot sequence to boot from the CD.  To do this, hold the screen that tells you the key F to push to enter the menu start or start of installation.  Push it quickly.   Ensure that your data is backed up / copied to external media. It seems that your PC has a hardware problem. If it's a name brand PC, for example Dell / HP etc it may have preinstalled utility test read the manual or manufacturer's web site

  The computer starts in safe mode, and work slowly.

  Computer would boot in safe mode if the safe mode startup option is enabled in the system configuration utility.

  Uncheck the boot option:

  Method 1:

  To disable:

  a. Click Start, type msconfig.exe and press enter

  b. now click on the Startup tab and uncheck the option of safe mode.

  Hi Happy New Year!   I've been away during the holidays and the day before where I left my computer just does not respond after trying to enter safe mode.  I ordered a new computer and meanwhile using my Dell laptop which is about 6 years old, but works on my wireless router.

  From what I see in blue, the screen and the black screen is that it is a hardware problem, I'll have to call Dell to get it going one last time, so I can get some files.

  From the dell Web site he suggested out me the hard drive, then put it again.

  A suggestion: as stated above, I thought I was wrong this posted in the Windows 7 Forum.  In fact, the link under XP for updates takes you to the Forum Windows 7 > Windows Update.  It seems that it would be less confusing, if questions update go to a forum, out of Windows 7 and Windows Update as a stand-alone speaker.
