  • Black screen when you try to start PowerPC G3 beige

I have a vintage tour 1997 beige PowerPC with OS 9 (don't know which version, I think that the last of them he would go - 9.2.2?).  It has been sitting in the corner, turned off but plugged in for years (on a UPS protected against overvoltages with newer computer).  It was probably 2-3 years since the last power successful upward to retrieve something from him.  I am wanting to get data out of an old program on it, but can't get any view of it, just a black screen.

Here's what I know about the material:

    Label says PowerPC G3 233 MHz, 512 K Cache, 32 MB / 4 G HD/24 x CD / 56K Modem, 17/02/98

The memory may have been renovated years ago, there are 3 SIMMS inside.

I use the video port built, with an adapter for the Apple Display Connector to VGA adapter which worked very well all the years I've used the computer.

When I turn on, it is what is happening:

    I get the normal "chime".

The monitor it is connected to the wake mode 'sleep'

The display goes completely black - (no happy Mac, sad Mac or any Mac or gray screen)

The monitor will never return "standby mode" until I have shut down the Mac (at least for 10-15 minutes I leave at the same time).  This makes me think that the port video is send something to the screen.

    • Here's what I've tried so far:
    • Tried 2 different monitors and cables, which has occurred on other computers (relatively modern flat screen LCD)
    • Replace the onboard battery
    • Zap the P - RAM
    • Reset the NVRAM by starting command-option-O-f and strike blindly
      • Reset-nvram (press enter/return)
      • Reset-all (News-enter/return) - at what point he restarted then assume that it took orders
    • Started with the space bar to see if the extensions manager would come to the top
    • Sitting SIMM memory (I remember when a memory SIMM went wrong after years, I'm a his 'breaking glass' at the start so I think the memory is OK?)

The only things I can think to try are changing the ADC to VGA and put in a PCI video card.  Wikipedia lists a couple that were popular with this vintage Mac: ATI Radeon 7000 and 9200.  These will work without having to install drivers? It seems that can be had pretty cheap, I don't know about the drivers.

I have not tried booting from a cΘdΘrom, especially because I was not able to locate them.  I could watch more difficult if it is reasonable to expect a different result, but that seems to be a more fundamental question.  If there are any people with ideas vintage Mac, it would be greatly appreciated!

The Amazon link you posted is for the PC of ATI Radeon 7000 version.  You need the Mac or PC version which took his chip EEPROM reprogramming with the Mac code.  Fifteen years ago, I bought eight of the sale to the retail-boxing, PC version Radeon 7000 s and flashed the ROM, for use in my beige G3s.  It took OS 9.2.2 support the latest drivers that allowed a 2D acceleration.  The Radeon 9200 Mac Edition is the final PCI graphics card that they marketed for Macs and would cost more and be more graphics card that you need, just to retrieve files from the G3.  You may be able to find a cheap, compatible Mac Radeon 7000 on ebay.  In fact, the older (Mac compatible) ATI Rage 128 PCI graphics of a B & W G3 (shown here) would be well suited to your needs.  When you zapped the PRAM, how many times have you let it go through the reboot cycle, while now pressed the keys "command + Option + P + R?  I usually gave it three.  You could try to remove the sound card 'personality' clean oxidation on the pins plated gold with a soft, white gum and reinstall.  This would be the case for modules of memory DIMMS and ROM card, which can also become oxidized over time.  If the Mac to VGA DB-15 you have a set of microswitches adjustable, the parameters of the (resolution) may be different for newer LCDs you've tried, especially if they have an image format widescreen.  "You can also consult the"failures of start-up list' on this page speed up your Mac G3 box. " "There was a problem with the first batch of voltage regulators used in the beige G3s, but I think they were passed to the VRM Raytheon in February 1998.  If "Raytheon" is printed on your VRM, you can probably exclude the problem.

  • Satellite C650 - black screen after BIOS update

My Satellite C650 Windows 7 - won't start afte BIOS update / switch.

Everything worked very well until the automatic update of Toshiba asked me to download and install the new BIOS update, I did. At the same session Windows and McAfee asked updated. I agreed to all. After all updates have been installed, turns off. The next day when I walk, I see only black screen. I also tried F2, F12 and drive recovery. Nothing happens!

    Any recommendation?

It seems that something was wrong during the update of the BIOS and so that you can t the computer unbootable. But I put t understand why you did the BIOS update. If everything works correctly, you can forget about this update. More if you do a BIOS update you shouldn't t run any other updates or programs that might affect the update of the BIOS.

Anyway, in this case you can do nothing and you need professional help. Please contact an authorized service provider and guys can help you update the ROM module On the Web from Toshiba site, you can find a list of all the FSA: > support & downloads > find an authorized service provider

    Good luck! :)

  • Satellite L300 - after the BIOS update I have a black screen

Welcome! I have a big problem.

I improve my Satellite L300 BIOS to the old version that I download on the official website of Toshiba. I turn on the update program and after about minute, the system will shoot down and on the screen I see black screen only. The light on the drive flashes green and the led in the DVD-ROM flashes orange. I have no idea what's going on.

    Please help me!

It sounds like this during the update of the BIOS, that something was going wrong. I think that the ROM module must be reflashed or in the worst cases, the motherboard should be replaced.

In any case, you should contact an ASP for help. Technicians can try to reflash the ROM module and solve this problem.
If you don't know where is the nearest ASP, you can search on the Toshiba site: decision-making supported downloads & => find an authorized service provider

  • Qosmio G40 - black screen and does not start

A bit of water on my laptop... (bought in 2007, guaranteed on)
I did not cut power at the time because it did not work properly...

    But, the next morning.
Start with a black screen, fan is too much work and I have a beep.
An and after a continuous short beep...

I opened it and dry all (air cold & mild)... paper to remove moisture.

but screen remains black, a beep and the fan not working too.

Please help... What can I do?

It seems that water damged your laptop or at least some parts. In the worst cases, you need a lot of new pieces of equipment, but I don't think that an authorized service provider can help you diagnose this problem.

On the Toshiba site, you can search for them: > support & downloads > find an authorized service provider

Contact them and ask for help. They will help you as much as possible. :)

  • HP 15: I'm just staring at a black screen

OK, so I've had this computer for a good year, and I have to admit, I'm a little clumsy and I drop my computer, not from a high place or anything but perhaps falling about 5 feet but still after a few falls, he worked still, in my view, that I had dropped once before that I went to school and when I got home I turned it on then he started acting lag and that's my wifi so I proceeded to turn off and on after this day, whenever I try to start I hear clicking in the computer and there's just a black screen with cursor not and if I'm lucky, he'll take me to a screen saying error something is not connected , I had my neighbor who looks at computers trying to watch it, but he said there is a screw that can be unscrewed and I think that he try so Ive come here to see what it please can someone! • Satego X 200 - 21U - only black screen on startup

I am owner of a SATEGO x 200-21 U with geforce 8700 m GT. The last time I used it, it freezes within windows. Just the backlight lights up after reboot. I have no picture, just black screen.

Even the Toshiba sign at the start of the laptop, the will does not appear. I think my interface is broken. I wrote to the Toshiba Service several times but I have no answer.
I think that if you're out of warranty, you are off customership... friendly service... thank you Toshiba suggestions where I can get a spare part for my laptop?

    > If you are out of warranty, you're out of customership
This is certainly not the truth. The only difference is that you pay for the repair when the laptop is out of warranty. For me it makes sense that this situation should be more interesting for services because they earn the defective notebook computers repair.

If there are other SPAS in your country, call and ask for help.
In general the graphics card replacement is not possible and I do not think that you will be able to find as unique hardware component. As far as I know, the whole motherboard must be exchanged.
Where to find the new motherboard?

You can try to order directly by Toshiba service partner or try to find that some used one on eBay.
Hmmmmm... I fear it won't be easy to find it m.

  • Update the BIOS via broken WinPlash SATEGO P100-10U. Now just black screen.

I did an upgrade of the Bios via WinPlash as I installed the XBox Live. Upgrading the Bios did not work (stupid me) and therefore, I'll have just a black screen after that I have turn on the monitor. The machine emits no beep, nor does it show anything else.
    I have subsequently:
Downloaded the WinPlash on another PC. As it says in the doc (unziped in a folder), but the file '... ". for bootable CD"is not generated (nothing else that the files have been copied).
Subsequently I have burned (all files = part of Vista 32 Bit) with NERO on a bootable CD, but it does not start the program (CD starts spinning, LED in CD / DVD flashes yellow then it stops).
Then, I only copied their executables on a USB key, tired to load it from there - ZERO nothing but the sound of the screens black and fan.

Tried to access the Bios with combinations of power sur-bouton ' "+ ESC, F1, F2, F10, F12, Del, ALT (as the left of the SPACE key), CTRL.

Could someone tell me if there is a start-up tool or a BIOS image tha starts, or a special touch?

so, you have little chance really bad because this issue needs to be repaired by a qualified technician. I had a similar problem and have searched for a few weeks for a resolution quick and good cheap but I couldn t find anywhere these tools mentioned you´ve.

Your only chance to bring the machine back to life is to contact a [ASP (certified partner) |]
and allow them to correct this problem. I asked a lot of people here, but no one from toshiba is here to give some nice tools... :(

Hope that your machine will come back to life.

  • Pavilion MS225: all on one black screen help

Hi, from Thursday morning, I noticed a light flickering on the screen on and off during the day, then that night, the screen went black all of a sudden, I could put in sleep mode and wake him up, things went very well after that.  I turned it off for the night and kept overnight get this screen black (I could barely see the bottom of screen and icons) but I was able to see my login page for a few seconds when wake-up mode 'sleep'.

I went to updates and saw that the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver need updated, so I tried and failed so he can install from Windows. I could see the screen enough to get on the industrial site and uninstall and reinstall. I reinstalled graphic discs too. Now, it seems to work very well, not black screen or flashing for about 5 hours now since the update the Realtek device. I was wondering if that was the question all along, is that this driver not getting updated cause screen problems? I also installed AMD Catalyst Install Manager and it updated the drivers.

Honestly, I don't know much about computers and it is the only one I also gives access, any help would be appricated! Thank you

    Hi there @slyn1234,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!  It's a good place to find the help you need, other users, HP experts and other support staff.  I understand that your computer screen went black, and after updating the driver it works again.  I'm happy to help you with this.

In response to your question, as to whether that was the problem, I'll give you a qualified Yes. It may be that the driver has been updated but that something has happened to the existing driver, the file has been corrupted, or another program or driver was installed that are in conflict. Another option is that a setting has been changed somewhere; There are several possibilities.

If this kind of thing happens again, see if you can boot your system with the help of computers HP - safe mode of Windows 7. Windows safe mode will load with the base drivers and is a way to access your system, if it seems that there is a software problem. Can be modified in Mode safe as parameters to display, or drivers, or uninstalled applications that may not be easy to dismantle a normal start.

Another useful to look at document is: HP PC - computer won't start (Windows 7). I hope this helps.

Please let me know if it works for you and if it does not solve your problem, please mark this message as a solution. Bravo would be appreciated as well.

Leave battery and connect the cable.

  • NB100 implemented black screen after Windows (with bar)

    I have laptop nb100.

My Windows XP is not loading (learn how to Windows with screen bar, then it blocks black).

I thought just re-intall Windows XP, so I tranfered my WinXP to .iso format and placed on my formatted USB (XP and .iso seem well).

I changed my computer to boot from USB and f12 on start up and it goes to the USB port, no probs. Then, I get a black screen with these choices:

1, text-mode Setup (flash start again after)
2nd, continuous mode GUI installation, setup + 1 start windows
---> DEBUGGING Options. Try if you have the hal.dll error<>
Debug the rdisk 1 2 boot partition
Debug the rdisk 1 3 boot partition
Debug the rdisk 1 4 boot partition
Debug the rdisk 2 1 boot partition
Debug the rdisk 2 2 boot partition
Debug the 2 3 rdisk boot partition
Debug the 2 4 rdisk boot partition

Option: text-mode installation 1, (start to flash again after).
kicks in a blue screen with the Windows installation
    wallpaper load some info
then it crashes on Setup starts windows

I have Win Xp SP2, was originally installed SP3, but can not find the drive (have to SP2 and 3) so I have Win XP SP2 through ISO then installed on usb (not sure if that is the question)

All I want is to re - install the computer (no I have not re - install discs), so I thought it would be easier to re XP - install.

    Any assistance received very highly.

    Thanks in advance :)

    > so I tranfered my WinXP in .iso format and put on my formatted USB key

Sorry, man, but I did not understand how you have transferred it.

I advise to get windows copy disk and USB drive to make a bootable usb drive to install windows.

You can make a USB bootable in 2 ways:

    1. manually with the command prompts

2 automatically using programs such as WinSetupFromUSB or Novicorp WinToFlash

A month ago, I got a problem with the screen, one day it's black screen and I could barely icons on the desktop, so I replaced inverter and everything was going well for 2 weeks.

Does anyone know what could be a problem, the motherboard or the screen...

    Thank you.

You have the same problem with an external monitor?
    Check it!

In addition, you should check from Toshiba Web site for a pilot to display and update the BIOS. > support & downloads > download drivers

  • Satellite L450 (PSLY0E) - a black screen after BIOS update

It seems I have "brick" my phone during a bios utdate that went wrong... black screen as suspect: o.

The laptop is a Toshiba satellite L450 (PSLY0E)
The new bios image is named "bwaa150a.rom".

Anyone know if it is possible to recover the bios of the flash or floppy drive, using a sort of toolfrom recovery inside the bios chip?... .or something?

Anyone know who is the manufacturer of this bios?
If I rename the bios image during a recovery, what 12xxxxx be named?

To my knowledge, it is possible to reflash the EPROM module using the special procedure of crisis of the BIOS. But this crisis BIOS disk for Toshiba computers laptops isn't available for download.
This must be done by authorized maker Toshiba.

But I also read in the forum about those who tried some discs of crisis 3rd party BIOS.
Sometimes it worked, but in most cases, you need advanced help technician.

However, to use the forum search option advanced to search for similar topics on crisis disk BIOS. Otherwise, as I said above: you last chance might be the ASP.

  • Satellite U500-1E0 - Webcam shows only a black screen

    Hello world

I have this problem, my webcam does not work. It has a blue light which indicates that it is running but it only shows the black screen. I tried to update software, uninstall, reintstalling once again, but nothing helped. I even downloaded a new driver from the Toshiba Web site but nothing.

Please, does anyone have a any solution to this problem?

    My laptop is Satellite U500-1E0

If the webcam shows just a blank screen, I could imagine it's just a setting incorrect webcam.

On the Web from Toshiba site, I found a helpful article that I think:
[How to change the settings for the built-in webcam If the image is very dark or black? |]
