Configuration of user folder

Hi, I think the configuration of the default location of the users folder. By default, the users folder is in C:\Users. But, you see, sometimes we need keep the c: especially when using SSD. Is it possible to configure the location of the all users folder to D: drive safely? Thanks in advance.

You can set these permissions to restrict access to right click on each file, go to properties, then using the tab security to decide who can read the file.

  • Problem by removing the frontendCallback of user folder

    Hello

I'm customizing my own reminder seq frontend and during application installation that copies to the Frontendcallback user folder (IE D:\Documents and Settings All Users\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand 4.2.1\Components\Callbacks\FrontEnd) it overrided the default reminder and worked well.

and during the uninstallation am removing the frontend reminder of this place, but after deleting the files get "WINDOWS TRY TO CONFIGURE TESTSTAND" (see attachment) on opening the TestStand after deleting the messages callbacks.this continues until I have copy the frontend deleted in tht call fuser older.

Why this is happening? any help to get rid of this?

    Thank you

    Biki

This is caused by the frontendcallbacks.seq file is missing.  The Setup program detects that a component is not properly installed (in this case, the frontendcallbacks.seq file) and attempts to repair by re-running the installer.

However, the installation program is not properly designed to take into account your ability to edit or even delete this file.  Question #257564 was created to fix this in a future version of TestStand.  However, until the installer has been changed, the only way to avoid this is to have a file with the name frontendcallbacks.seq to this place.  I would say on uninstall handing the default file in place to avoid this problem.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

  • User account is 'Kristin' but the C:\Users folder is called "holder". Why?

Why the C:\Users folder called "Owner" when the user account is 'Kristin '? How can I change the name of the folder?

You better not change this folder, it is the default name that create when configure you your Windows. If you rename then your PC may crash or it could give the error. This is the default name so don't worry. By the change of account name will change your account name and as long as this is the main issue he could not change.

  • User folder devours free space HDD

I have a 64 GB SSD, which slows the decline of available hard disk space.  I only use about 1/2 the ability, but I am now at 3 GB of space left.  I noticed this a few weeks ago, but the available space was far greater then.  If the problem has progressed to this point run out of free space.

Using the Windows Explorer file manager, I find that my folder 'User' takes now 33.3 GB of space. The user has two folders (user_me and public). Are most of these Go to user_me.  But the data files in this folder are not occupying about 2 GB.

The amount of user data should I expect to see being taken up by Windows, and I can solve this to something more practical?

    Thank you

cCleaner?  No thanks.  I stick with Windows Disk Cleanup.

Well, my problem was solved by removing the "temporary Internet files" in in IE8 (using the general tab of the Internet Tools-Options menu).

I also found in IE8, Internet Options, Advanced tab, a configuration affecting empty folder "temporary Internet files" when the browser is closed.  Allowing that should keep the record more permanently growing more later too.

When I check the size of my file user (only one on this computer), Get Info indicates that it contains 147 concerts.  When I read the information on each of the 11 folders inside my user folder, they add only up to 75 concerts.  Why is there a difference of 72 concert between the file and the amount of its content?

I had a drive hard failure and then spent two days time Machine * (restore failed over and over again) before finally giving the place and moved manually on my supported up to data (ugh).

I moved on my user folder, but it is not recognized in the system (users and groups), just the new preferences (another name) that I created when you install a new copy of El Capitan (former user folder is to El Capitan).

Move this folder to one location other than/Users /, then create a new user. The items in the folder /Users/ are regular folders; the actual list of accounts is stored elsewhere.

If my user under Favorites folder-click, then nothing is displayed.

If browse computer / user /... so I can see my user but it is shaded pale gray and no access is possible.

    My user has administrator access.

I am still able to use the - Mail, Photos, iTunes - apps that access the files that are located in my home folder of the user.

Ideas on how to access the home folder in the Finder?

    Hey RossM.

I understand that you have a problem with access to your files and folders in your user folder. Let's see if we can get access to it.

I would like to start by looking at your home folder permissions. If they are incorrect, you will need to make sure that you are the owner. Take a look at the procedure described below to take care of this.

  • Gray users folder on iMac

Have iMac running El Capitan... on my hard disk Macintosh users folder is grayed out and I can't even see the content.

Same thing when I backup on a disk external DRIVE using Time Machine--that can not see the beak of users folder is grayed out.

    Help, please.

Was it this way before moving on to El Capitan? Was it this way immediately once you upgrade to El Capitan? What have you done since the upgrade as to bring changes, download new software, etc. ? A gray folder means generally that it is invisible. This is the folder/Users to the root of your boot volume. If so, you could see if it works:

Open the Terminal in your Utilities folder. At the prompt in the Terminal window, paste the following text:

sudo chflags no / hidden users

Press RETURN. Enter your administrator password when prompted. It will not echo in the window.

In step 4, you add all of the hard disk (usually called Macintosh HD). This will cause Spotlight to "forget" where your files are. When you remove the hard drive in step 6, Spotlight is obliged to locate your files again. This can take awhile depending on the hard disk and the number of files, but you can check the status by clicking the projector at the top right

  • Time Machine exclude user folder repeatedly

    Hello

My time machine continues to ignore my user folder. ~ is listed in the exclusions and if I delete it it's just go ~ after that I saved and closed the file of the option (see screenshot)

I'm tempted to remove the relevant com.apple.TimeMachine.plist no success outside the delivery of other time machine preferences.

    Any other suggestions.

Found the solution to reset correctly a plist after deleting, you must reboot until the system tries to establish a new preference setting. Erased all settings and kept cleared, will be useful for other problems as well I think.

  • Prevent automatic Expansion of the users folder

It is a loss of a lot of time for me.  When opening explores, it automatically expands the users folder that I can navigate and collapse to get to where I really want to go.  How can I disable this annoying behavior?

Go to start / computer and you will have a view that is not developed (at least mine isn't) - it shows C:\ and does not yet show the subfolders as users.  Or if you want just your own profile information, click on and it will give you just the files and folders in your profile (not developed).

    I hope this helps.

  • Move the Users folder to another drive or partition under Vista 64

I want to move my full users folder to another drive or partition under Vista 64-bit.

I found these instructions to do with Windows 7 and confirm that they work very well on a Windows 7 computer I set up yesterday.
ROBOCOPY, RMDIR, MKLINK programs all exist in Vista and have all the command line switches such as specified in section of Windows 7.
I want to use junction points as described in the article, rather than messing around with search-and-replace in registry. The use of junction points is cleaner and easier to reverse if I ever need to move the Users back folder to its original location.
These same instructions for Windows 7 works with Vista 64 bit to move my users folder to a different hard disk or partition?

Well, I couldn't wait any longer for a response.

So I gave him a test and Windows 7 instructions work perfectly with Vista 64 - bit word. Hope it will be useful to someone else.
  • Why can't I rename a certain user folder?

I bought this computer by a previous owner.  And his name still be on this folder of the user.  When I right click on the file to rename, Rename option is not displayed.  (Content in this folder are all my personal files). I am registered as an administrator and the single user account is the only one with my name.  Also, my computer name is listed under my name. Can someone please help me understand why Windows Vista won't let me not rename this user folder?  Thank you.

    Hello

You cannot rename the user folder because you have already connected (only administrator account) and the account is currently in use.

    This is normal.
