Configure the WRT610N as an access point?
I have a local wired network with a WAP54G access point that connects the 2 laptops wireless for the local network and internet. I want to replace the access point with a WRT610N. How to configure the WRT610N as an access point? Can I connect my access point to the Internet on the WRT610N, or to one of the four ethernet ports cable Cat6?
Thanks for the help.

Connection of comments on the second WNR1000v3 as access point does not connect to Internet
I have a WNR1000v3 (firmware V1.0.2.68_60.0.93NA) connected to the WAN and it works well. His IP address is 192.168.0.1, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1, mask and DNS servers are on 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4. DHCP is configured to 192.168.0.10 to 192.168.0.100. I have a guest connection configured and it works well.
I have a * second * WNR1000v3 (same firmware) bound to the first as access by using these instructions: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/23784/~/how-to-automatically-configure-a-netgear-route...
I gave him the IP 192.168.0.2, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, gateway 192.168.0.1, and DNS servers again the value of Google. It has the same SSID wireless as the main router and I can move seamlessly between the two. The devices connected to the LAN ports on this access point work very well. Wireless connection works fine.
I then configured the connection even guest on the second router (the one running in access point mode) and I can get an IP address when I use it. However I can't access the Internet. Ping 192.168.0.1, 192.168.0.2, and 173.194.33.137 (the IP local google.com) all fail.
Guest connection is not supported on a router functioning as an access point? Or am I missing something really obvious?
Thank you
Bill
@storm1985 I suspect that your configuration means that all the second router LAN ports will also forward only to the Internet. But this gives me a good idea to use another router just like an access point wireless for the connection of comments. (I seem to accumulate old routers.) Unfortunately, I don't have the time to try this out until late in the week, but I'll certainly do and report. Thank you!

PS B110a - wireless configuration will fail if the network has multiple access points
Photosmart B110a (CN245B) wireless AIO printer.
I have several wireless access points using the same SSID to provide coverage over a large area. When you install the printer on the screen TouchSmart wireless installation fails. Print report reveals the following error:
"More than one access point/router wireless was found which matches your network name (SSID). If this is not intended, your HP printer can connect to the wrong network. »
In my case this IS planned but there seem to be no available option to answer "OK, just connect to any point of access by using my SSID. If I turn off all but one the APs configuration complete OK. If I have to do every time I turn on the printer the printer is USELESS for me.
Did I miss something?
sijomi
This should not be a problem. I have a B110 (and another 10 or so HP wireless printers) on a network of airports with 5 access points and they just connect.
Here are a few suggestions:
1. don't use WEP - use WPA or WPA2 with a 13 + character password.
2. enable the SSID broadcast on all access points
3. do not use the MAC filtering acddress
4. make sure "AP isolation" or "isolated wireless" is disabled.
5. make sure that you are not on a private network, virtual, or connected to your network of comments.
6. If different strings on access points do not work, try the same channel.

Satellite P875 - 32L - is unable to reconnect to the last connected WIFI access point
I have a problem to reconnect to the last connected WLAN provider, with my Satellite P875 32 L.
WLAN is switched on and shows all the neighbors access points, but it fails to whoever I logged before the reboot, or before you go to the rescue of the list.I'm going in service options for WLAN, sometiimes up to 5 times, then it undermines meet usually.
It's well annoying.I have had this with the other 30 satellite of P870 too, but something so this behavior have disappeared. So there must be a solution.
Hello
You're talking about your private Wlan at home?
If you had the same problem using another laptop too, it could be possible that this isn't a problem with the network s laptop wireless card or Wlan configuration but with the WLan router.You should definitely reset/reboot the rooter.
In addition, check the settings of the IP router and or mac address filtering.
Change also the type of encryption and Wlan channel.You have to try different combination turn off just to test the WiFi encryption and check if the laptop would connect to the Wlan open correctly.
But the Wlan encryption must always be defined in order to avoid improper use of the Wlan access point. -
How to configure wrt160nl when working as access point
Hello, I have a router wrt160nl works as an access point, so disabled DHCP. First of all, I would like to know how to access the configuration menu. I tried to get his IP address, looking at all the IPS connected to the main router. So I tried to get into the router, but no ip address seems to work.
is it possible to do?
I also wanted to connect to a USB hd it and share it on my network, but I Don t know how to access the hd and for the reasons explained, cannot configure the router.
Thank you
If you connected the WRT160NL in a configuration of LAN to LAN and did not indicate a static address of the router IP address while it would always be to the original IP address. This will not effect operation as long as the WRT160NL IP address is not the same as the main router.
If this is the case you can connect to the WRT160NL by assigning a static IP address on your network card to match the subnet the WRT160NL is on.
Ex:
WRT160NL IP address: 192.168.0.1, configure your network adapter with the IP 192.168.0.2. Then, you should be able to ping it.

configure my WRT54G Router as access point?
Hi all, hoping someone can explain the process of setting up my WRT54G as access point to connect to my new WRT310N router. I get under the floor and string a long ethernet cable to add wireless across the House but I don't know how to properly prepare for the router, if I can set up once it is hooked, etc.. ? I've read conflicting reports on the question if I need to change the SSID and if devices hooked to the point of access can still obtain IP addresses dynamically.
The mixture of N and G will be as problematic?
best,
Chris
For General configuration, see here.
Use identical settings SSID und on both wireless security. Use many different channels. Then you have a roaming wireless network.

DHCP option to set the controller IP for Access Points (Airespace)
Hello world.
Does anyone have an idea to specify the controller using DHCP options.
We use:
-Controller AIR-WLC4404-100-K9
-AP-1010-AP-5312 poinst access
-Server dhcp DHCPd ISC 3.0.1
Newspapers on DHCP server indicates that access points become the IP addresses, but the controller information are not "read" / "included".
In the productive environment, controllers will be redundant.
So far, we couldn't sucsessful with eighter of these configurations:
Block i. using VTL:
subnet 10.50.107.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {}
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
routers option 10.50.107.1;
option domain-name-servers 10.20.51.11, 10.20.51.12;
option vendor-class-identify Airespace 1200;
the option dhcp-client-identifier 0xf1, 8, 10.20.51.254, 10.20.51.249;
DDNS-updates
DDNS-rev-domainname "in - addr.arpa.";
DDNS-domain name "xxyy.local.";
default-lease-time 28800;
range 10.50.107.101 10.50.107.200;
}
II. using the DHCP Next-Server option:
subnet 10.50.107.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {}
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
routers option 10.50.107.1;
option domain-name-servers 10.20.51.11, 10.20.51.12;
Next-server 10.20.51.254;
III. use of Header Information Option 43 described such in DHCP Manual:
WLAN-apc code 60 option = text;
ip address wlan code option 43 = controller;
subnet 10.50.107.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {}
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
routers option 10.50.107.1;
option domain-name-servers 10.20.51.11, 10.20.51.12;
option wlan-apc "Airespace.AP1200"
option wlan controller - 10.20.51.254;
IV. using header to the DHCP server information:
class "-classes of suppliers ' {}
vendor-class-identifier option match; }
{"Airespace.AP1200" subclass "-classes of suppliers '}
Next-server 10.20.51.254;
}
Does anyone have a working (using the SAI?) configuration or advice?
Best regards

Yes, finally got it work.
I just followed this guide:

With the help of new access points with old WLC 4100; LWAPP layer 2 switching 3-tier
Hi all
We currently use two solutions Wiresless LAN - a 10 AP1230 access points-based autonomous (5 years) and a solution based on a Cisco WLC 4100 (4112, running 3.2) with 12 AP1010 LWAPP access points.
First thing, we are considering to replace the stand-alone solution with the WLC one. However, I'm not sure if we can use the new access points such as the LAP1041N or the LAP1252G with our current 4100 WLC. Access reported data sheets 'Cisco Unified Wireless Network Software Release 7.0 or later version' 'software '. Does this mean that these access points can only be used with controllers running 7.0 or later?
If we are unable to use the new access points with our current WLC and need to buy a new controller: can we use access points AP1010 current with a new WLC as the Cisco 4402?
Second thing, it is that we want to expand the networks configured on the WLC 4100 to another site that is connected via VPN wireless. Wireless Setup guide indicates that the LWAPP mode can be changed from Layer 2 to 3 layers so that the access points can be configured with an IP address, which allows you to place access points basically anywhere as long as IP connectivity exists between the AP and the WLC.
Y does it as described in a document with the change of mode LWAPP layer 2 to 3 layers? Or ist just the following steps (if I understand correctly):
-Change the Mode of Transport LWAPP on the controller of layer 2 to 3 layers
-Creation of a PA-manager interface with an IP address in the same subnet as the management interface (tried that, without changing LWAPP mode transport first and not was not possible - error)
With regard to different sites:
-Configure option DHCP 43 with the IP address of the WLC or DNS with CISCO-LWAPP - CONTROLLER.localdomain
-Make sure that the interface ap - manager can reach points on the different site
Is it really just as simple as that? All information about it is very appreciated!
/ edit: I would also like to know if the 1260 series access point are backward compatible with 802. 11B. Whereas it is stated in 1040 and 1250 for example series data sheets, it is not particularly mentioned in 1260 data sheet.
Thank you
Michael
Well, let's start with the simple question/answer
With regard to different sites:
-Configure option DHCP 43 with the IP address of the WLC or DNS with CISCO-LWAPP - CONTROLLER.localdomain
-Make sure that the interface ap - manager can reach points on the different site
Yes, it's as simple as that.
As for other issues, looks like you would be better served with a forklift upgrade. New controllers and new AP.
Now, the AP 1230/1240/1250. all work on the 4.2, 1140 code starts with 5.2 and 1040/3500/1260 are 7.0
The AP 1000 series is not supported after 4.2 code.
Refer to here for the complete list of the AP and taken codes supported:
http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn7.0.html#wp610751
From what I see, the 4100 is not supported after the train of 3.2.
So, it really depends on what you are trying to accomplish with the upgrade. If you are looking for a 80.211n support, you really want to be 5.2 or better, we had some problems with MRR + 40 Mhz channels, 4.2, 5 GHz band only.

With the help of the EA 6300 as Access Point?
I have given up to get the EA6300 to work as I wanted and will get another router. In order to not be from his pocket a piece of plastic and electronics in landfills, I create the EA 6300 as 'silly' access point, just transfer the DHCP and DNS of the router and thus broaden the scope of the wireless network.
The AP today, I use a NetGear, becoming over the years and often disconnect wifi users.
The idea is to have the router using a SSID and let the 6300 EA using the same SSID and password in order to give a 'broad' transparent network
Is there an easy way to implement, and if so, are there instructions anywhere for this?

Changing the E3200 as wireless access point
Hi, I recently bought an E8350 router and have a spare E3200. How can I change E3200 as an another access point wireless to work with my new E8350? Thank you very much.
You want to connect your E3200 to your new E8350? You can mount the two cascading, but I suggest you do the E8350 as your main router and connect the E3200 so that it will act as an access point. Wire? Wireless? Status of other computers (if any)? Router? Network devices? Type of Internet connection?
Have you other computers can connect to the Internet using the same network hardware?
You have any kind of 3rd party Network Manager installed, like Hello, Netmagic and the likes?
Do you have the "Fancy" 3rd part security suits, or as the hybrid of nVidia Firewall Firewall.
You are using more than one firewall (including native Windows), AV or other security applications active?
If you use any 3rd part above, try to configure them to work corretly on your network, or get rid of them and see if it helps (RID, means getting rid, not just disable ).
------------------
Assuming that you are connected with the wireless to the router.
First scan the computer against the viruses and Malwares.
When you are sure that it is clean.
These steps and tell us where is the breaking point.
Check the Device Manager for the wireless card valid entry.
http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/net_dm.jpg
If there is no valid entry, remove any entry from fake and re - install the drivers for the wireless card.
Check network connections to make sure that you have a network icon/entry wireless connection, and that the properties of the icon (right-click on the icon) are correctly configured with the TCP/IPv4 protocol in the properties of network connections.
http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/net_connection_tcp.jpg
------------------
The wireless card drivers much also install utility wireless of the seller.
Make sure that if there are teas from Wireless Utility of seller does not work with the native Windows wireless utility (Service WLAN).
----------------
Make sure you firewall No. preventing / blocks wireless components to join the network.
Some 3rd party software firewall continue to block the same aspects it traffic Local, they are turned Off (disabled). If possible set up the firewall correctly, otherwise totally uninstall and get rid of its remaining processes that permit the own local network traffic flow.
If the 3rd party software is uninstalled, or disables, make sure Windows native firewall is active .
party like Hello and NetMagic 3rd network managers can block local traffic too.
---------------------------
Stack TCP/IP work should look like.
Right-click on the wireless network connection card, select status, details and see if she got an IP address and the rest of the settings.
http://www.ezlan.NET/Win7/status-NIC.jpg
Description is the data of the card making.
The physical address is MAC of the card number.
The xx must be a number between 0 and 255 (all xx even number).
YY should be between 0 and 255
ZZ should be between 0 and 255 (zz all the same number.)
The date of the lease must be valid at the present time.
* Note 1. IP that starts with 169.xxx.xxx.xxx isn't valid functional IP.
* Note 2. There could be an IPv6 entries too. However, they are not functional for Internet or LAN traffic. They are necessary for Win 7 homegroup special configuration.
---------------------------------------------------
A message in the small window that says connected wireless doesn't means that you are really a valid functional connection.
Above everything is OK, you must be able to connect to the router.
Connection to the router means that you can enter the IP of the router base in an address bar in one go, being able to connect and configure the router menus see.
If it doesn't connect to the router, journal newspaper from any computer that can connect to the router wirelessly with a wire, disable wireless security, make sure that the wireless SSID broadcast is enabled and try to connect with no. wireless security.
Enable security wireless after you eat to make a functional connection.

Hello
(1) in the direction of LAN, they can access HQ LAN & resource, but cannot access the internet. I did not configure NAT on the router PH
Answer:
You must configure the NAT and crossed to the ASA HQ so that the VPN branch router provides LAN and u-Turn, access to Internet of the SAA. You must first seup NAT for the branch on the SAA router subnet, then you must type the command:
permit same-security-traffic intra-interface
Here's a great example for VPN client hairpining.

(3) in the Site of the Directorate, phone hard cannot work but phone on PC can call to Headquarters. Hard IP phone are same in remote network (172.16.1.0/24 ). What's the problem? How can I configure separately?
You must change your subnet VLANS to be different from the subnet HQ voice phone IP VOice VLAn, it should be fine.

Help to set up the Linksys WRT54GH as Access Point
I would like to connect my WRT54GH to my main router with RJ45 (so I can get the signal full force) in order to be used as a point of access but I m not sure about the configuration. Can someone help me configure my WRT54GH?
Kind regards.

Follow the instructions for 'LAN to LAN' Cascading in the link below:
In waterfall or connect a Linksys router to another router
Thing to keep in mind when cascading a router:
- Change the IP address of the secondary router to something like 192.168.1.254 so its on the same network, but is not in conflict with the main router
- Make sure that the DHCP service is disabled on the secondary router
- Make sure that nothing is ever connected to the Internet port on the secondary router
- Differentiate the wireless SSID by location (Ex: downstairs) and the channel
