Conflicts with native Firewall VPN

I use OS X El Capitan 10.11.4

I have subscribed to a VPN connection provided by PIA (private Internet access) and noticed that the client VPN of PIA disables native firewall protection for OS X El Capitan.  This isn't really a concern as long as the duration of the VPN connection and the computer is protected via the VPN and its own firewall.  However, when the VPN connection drops and I'm not around to immediately re-engage the OS X Firewall, there is a period of time when the computer is not protected by a firewall.  Support to PIA could not provide me with a conclusive answer to this subject, and it seems unsure as to if there is a viable solution to this any time soon.

First question: is there a work around to avoid the defusing of the OS X Firewall?

Second question: is there a way to force an instant VPN reconnect as soon as the VPN connection is lost?

Hello dubwisedude,

Don't worry the Firewall of OS X. It's a waste of time. If you are concerned about these things, don't turn on all sharing services. Firewalls is misunderstood. They are tools for network administrators. They don't have much use for end users. The Application OS X Firewall is particularly useless. Its default behavior is to allow about anything, sometimes without tell you about it.

  • Public static political static NAT in conflict with NAT VPN

I have a situation where I need to create a VPN site-to site between an ASA 5505 using IOS 7.2 and a Sonicwall NSA4500. The problem arises where the LAN behind the Cisco ASA has the same subnet an existing VPN currently created on the Sonicwall. Since the Sonicwall cannot have two VPN both run on the same subnet, the solution is to use policy NAT on the SAA as well as for the Sonicwall, the new VPN seems to have a different subnet.

The current subnet behind the ASA is 192.168.10.0/24 (The Sonicwall already has a private network virtual created for another customer with the same subnet). I try to translate it to 192.168.24.0/24. The peer LAN (behind the Sonicwall) is 10.159.0.0/24. The ASA relevant configuration is:

    interface Vlan1

    IP 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0

    access extensive list ip 192.168.24.0 outside_1_cryptomap allow 255.255.255.0 10.159.0.0 255.255.255.0

list of access VPN extended permit ip 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 10.159.0.0 255.255.255.0

public static 192.168.24.0 (inside, outside) - list of VPN access

    card crypto outside_map 1 match address outside_1_cryptomap

In addition, there are other static NAT instructions and their associated ACLs that allow certain traffic through the firewall on the server, for example:

public static tcp (indoor, outdoor) interface smtp SERVER smtp netmask 255.255.255.255

The problem is this: when I enter the static strategy statement NAT, I get the message ' WARNING: real-address conflict with existing static "and then it refers to each of the static NAT statements reflecting the external address to the server. I've thought about it, and it seemed to me that the problem was that policy NAT statement must be the first statement of NAT (it is the last one) so that it is run first and all traffic destined to the VPN to the Sonicwall (destination 10.159.0.0/24) tunnel would be properly treated. If I left him as the last statement, then the other static NAT statements would prevent a part of the 10.159.0.0/24 network-bound traffic to be correctly routed through the VPN.

So, I tried first to my stated policy NAT upward in the ASDM GUI interface. However, moving the declaration was not allowed. Then I tried to delete the five static NAT statements that point to the server (an example is above) and then recreate them, hoping that would then move up the policy statement NAT. This also failed.

    What Miss me?

    Hello

I assumed that we could have changed the order of the 'static' , the original orders, but as it did not work for some reason any then it seems to me that you suggested or change, that I proposed should work.

I guess that your purpose was to set up static political PAT for the VPN for some these services, then static PAT of public network access, then static NAT to policy for the rest of the network in-house.

I guess you could choose any way seems best for you.

Let me know if get you it working. I always find it strange that the original configuration did not work.

  • Need help with native VPN client for Mac to the Configuration of the VPN router RV082

    Guys,

I am trying to set up router RV082 VPN Client with native Mac for my remote access. However, no matter what I did, I'm not able to make works. Can any give me an example of how to set my router RV082 and Mac Book Pro (Mountain Lion)?

    Thank you

Hi Jixian, the native client MAC does not work. The IPSEC VPN client is the same as the 5.x Cisco VPN client is not supported on this device.

Your alternatives are to use PPTP or a 3rd party IPsec client such as ipsecuritas.

  • problem with windows 2003 vpn servers. and xp pro clients vpn using bridge nic

I have installed 2 guests windows 2003 on 2 laptops. both are configured with 1 CC of backend and frontend 1 nat/vpn server that has 2 interfaces, a bridge and one configured for host only.

I configure nat on both servers windows 2003 rras and vpn services and have them connected to my local network. they are able to access internet, ping between them and other computers on the network, as well as the host systems on which they run.

the problem is that I am not able to connect to the vpn servers remotely from inside a guest virtual machine. I wanted to try a vpn site-to site between the guests 2 windows 2003, but the operation failed.

I then tested customer to type of a guest virtual computer pro xp vpn server. It is also a failure.

but I discovered that if I initiate a VPN from any one of the host computer system laptop or another computer on the physical network I am able to connect to the vpn servers I have set up.

I wish I could have these laptops to operate normally and

time to time be able to turn on virtual machines with vpn

servers and test as dfs things and replication active directory as if

they were running 2 separate real-world offices. the two laptops have invited Setup for 192.168.0.0 networks with subnet mask 255.255.255.192. each host that it supposed to be running a 1 subnet for the popular virtual machine with the servers vpn/nat connect together the 2 sites.

laptop computers are running xp pro and vista ultimate as the host systems. I'm only using the windows firewall but also tested with them disabled vpn connections. also launches the service ipsec on laptops to secure internal lan traffic, I have also tested with two guests with disabled ipsec.

is there something I'm missing here with the installation of the vmware bridge network?

Oh I forgot to mention, I test using pptp and ms-chap v2

I managed to do work by unchecking the tcp/ip settings and the microsoft file sharing on the bridged NIC resaeau.

now it works very well but who explain to me why it cannot work when you are using the same network as the host card. they all have two different ip addresses and mac addresses. but something seems to be in conflict

    Hi Shannon,

I am pleased to see that you're progress.

    Shannon Rotz wrote:

I changed the RM port to 443.  Unfortunately, now I can't connect to the router via browser, either by remote management or from the local network - I get the usual "page cannot be displayed".  How do I get back into the router configuration GUI?

You should be able to reach the GUI by typing https://192.168.1.1(assuming that you have not changed the default IP address) normally once you replace http (port 80) with https (port 443) the internal router web server automatically will redirect you to the https page if you type http. Open your command prompt and try to do a ping of the IP address of the router to ensure that it still meets this address

With regards to the VPN client:   Up until I changed the port, the same error message kept coming up, i.e. "Unable to establish connection" (or something like that), with a list of possible reasons why it couldn't connect. Now the message has changed - I'm getting "Server's certificate doesn't exist on your local computer".  If I continue trying to connect, then it says "Activating Policy", followed by "Verifying Network", then "The remote gateway is not responding.  Do you want to wait?"  This is definitely progress, since I never got this far before.

You are a quarter inch offline. If you look at the log.txt in C:\Program Cisco Small Business\QuickVPN Client, in my view, you will see "Failed to ping router remote VPN! This means that your PC is blocking the ping to the router response. Usually, if you look at this point the status of Client VPN in the router (first of all need to remote management) you will see that your user status is "connected." If the router thinks that the connection is established, but the PC does not work. You might want to try another PC at this stage to verify that it is indeed a problem with your PC. This problem is usually caused by the 3rd party software antivirus/firewall blocking the ping response. Microsoft Security Essentials can do this as well, so if you turn it off. If you do not have another PC to test from, call Cisco Small Business Support and ask a technician, try to connect to the lab. You can find the number to call here

On an impulse, I tried setting up a Windows VPN connection, i.e. created a new VPN connection in Network and Sharing Center, using a PPTP client ID that I had created.  That connection actually worked, except for one problem:  I can't see the remote network.  If I could solve that problem, I'll just tell the other clients to use a Windows connection rather than QuickVPN.

Good thought. If you do not see the remote devices, make sure that they do not block VPN connections. (Windows or third-party firewall, antivirus, antispyware) With a connection, PPTP or QuickVPN, you should be able to go to run, type the IP address of the device that you want to connect to (i.e. \\192.168.1.101 ) and see the list of shared folders. After the PPTP connection is established, try to ping the address LAN IP of the router. If it is successful, try to ping a LAN device such as a network printer or a PC. Again, PCs may block ping requests if they have a firewall running watch so for this.

  • Avast free with comodo firewall - READ-

I read that these two running together will cause no conflict as long as you clear the sandbox in Avast and comodo firewall but my main question is which is the best way to install
First avast then restart then Comodo firewall or vice versa any help would be thank you very much.

    Hello

Frankly I run Avast and forget about Comodo or any firewall left 3rd. Use of the Windows Firewall
that is extremely effective. Most routers today also have a built-in firewall hardware that works
Well well with Windows Firewall software.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Low-cost 3rd part firewall software are quite a lot of problems delayed. They all have
compatibility, issues and offer only a few improved controls. In fact their problems often actually lower
the overall security instead of laying. The Windows Firewall has no problem of compatibility and is
extremely safe, if you know enough to work around most of the hype. Cost of firewalls software quality
thousands. Most routers have hardware firewalls built in and those are much better additions
for the money than any firewall at low prices and low-cost software.

    Hi Martijn,

    just a few quick thoughts:

-is your ok NAT exemption, i.e. ensure that the return traffic is not NAT' ed.

-Make sure that there is no overlap crypto ACL

-When connected, make a package tracer to see what is happening with the return packages.

    for example

    packet-tracer in the interface within the icmp 10.7.11.18 0 0 172.16.1.1 detail

(where is the name of the interface on which 10.7.11.18 resides)

This will show you all the steps the rail package in-house (routing, nat, encryption etc.) so it should give you an idea of what is happening, for example when it comes to the bad interface, nat evil rule, wrong entry card crypto etc.

  • Firewall VPN, VMs and VLAN

It is just a simple example to help me understand.

Let's salsa in my data center, I have a simple setup with 1 firewall (LAN port) connected to the server physical 1' data network port. The server has two network, 1 data and 1 management ports.

3 branch offices are connected to the WAN port on the firewall via VPN, and each office is on a separate subnet. The firewall is capable of creating VLANs of course. For example, I can direct traffic to office 1 to go to the VLAN 1 which is the 1st Port of the firewall.

The requirement is that each office wants their own virtual machines. Virtual machines for an office are not allowed to talk to other virtual machines for other offices.

How can I set up? How I would order traffic to office 1 to go to the VLAN1 where VMs for Office 1 would also live and then do the same for Office 2 & 3? I need 3 network ports (one for each office) on the physical server to accomplish this or I could use "vSwitch' function?

No additional need to NICs. We establish Setup with existing maps.

    1. create 3 VLANs (for example: 11,12 and 13) for each office.

    2. set the switch port physical/firewall which is connected to taking data network of servers in TRUNK mode. Its to allow the traffic of all the VLANS.

    3. create 3 exchanges in vswitch (for example: 1, 2 and 3 office)

4 VLANs for each card exchanges.

    VLAN 11-> office1

    VLAN 12-> office2

    VLAN 13-> guidelines3

    5. connect the virtual machines to their respective trade.

    My Toshiba Satellite R840 - 12 c has a problem with bluetooth.

On the Device Manager tab, I see a conflict with the RFBUS "Bluetooth."
So my bluetooth setting does not work... In other words my laptop cannot detect bluetooth despite being bluetooth devices "on"...

So uninstall the device first, then download the stack of BT from Toshiba BT portal and after reboot again install this new.

  • Re: Satellite P300 - conflict with the display driver

Yesterday, I suddenly had a conflict with my display driver. While working on my laptop, a blue screen appeared and then the screen went black and stayed like that. When you use an external monitor, it is possible to start in SafeMode (in normal mode, a blue screen appears). It is possible that a Windows Update has occurred, but I can nog
cancel anything (no Windows recovery point).

I uninstalled the display driver and downloaded the latest version, but it doesn't seem to help. Reinstalling Windows won't work or the other cause the installation DVD detects a hardware error (the display driver).

Does anyone knows how to fix this?

    Kind regards
    Jeroen

    Hey Buddy,

    > Reinstall Windows won't work or the other cause the installation DVD detects a hardware error (the display driver).
What Windows disk, you used exactly?
Normally before starting with the installation of Windows, you must format the hard disk and create partitions. If everything is clean at the disk Windows installation starts.

I advise to use the Toshiba recovery disc. This disk can restore the original settings of the case and before Installation starts the drive HARD to wipe completely.

  • El capitan is in conflict with my printer.

El capitan upgrade is in conflict with my Kodak printer. I would like to delete el capitan from my computer. How can I do?

El Capitan is the operating system. You can not remove it. The computer would not go.

What do you mean, exactly, by "competitor" with your printer?
