Connect to airport extreme USB hard drive

I have a drive external hard Iomega LDHD-UP that I want to connect to my Airport Extreme (running the 7.6.4)... version but I can't seem to do.)

Currently, the airport is set up as a bridge to my Verizon Fios router.  It all works very well.

The instructions from Apple don't seem to help me, because I do not have "Airport disk utility" - only "Airport utility" - and I'm hit a roadblock there.
(Airport: how to mount a volume of Airport Extreme USB hard drive in Mac OS X and Windows - Apple Support)

Normally, I can understand something like this, I thought I would ask for help rather than making circles for another hour.

Any advice?  Thank you.

OK, so I read all the info in this article, where to get the Airport disk utility >

... and I now know that 'The airport disk utility' is no longer (and does not have the article I cited above), but I'm not even see my drive hard when it is connected to the Airport Extreme.

I have iMac, retina runs El Capitan, I have a fairly new Airport Extreme 6.3.6 running.  My desire is to attach a USB drive and have available files can I access any of my computers.  Also have old iMac and a MBP (about 2012 or 2013).  All three are attached to Airport Extreme, through ethernet cables.  I use the wireless for iPhone and iPad, not for computers.

I have a Seagate 2 TB hard drive. I connected directly to the latest iMac and all is well. Get the connect to Airport Extreme, it does not appear in the Finder.  After reading several articles I tried to install this on a powered USB hub and the HD in it.  Still does not appear in the Finder.

I tried to reformat the hard disk, but would not be able to afford it. I have app NTSF on iMac.

You need to connect to a computer and reformat the drive as Mac OS extended (journaled). AirPort Extreme cannot read USB drives to NTFS or exFAT format.

External USB hard drives lose its connection and work stoppages.      History

    Windows 7 Ultimate - 64-bit
I installed it on a HP Pavilion, OS, 64-bit, and I have this problem.
People report that it does not occur with Windows 7 32 bit OS.

    Problem:
Any brand of external hard drive USB (and other USB devices sometimes) lose its connection and stops working only when copying large files internal drive to external USB drives.
The USB device may appear to work properly when Windows first starts, but later stops working (crashes computer) after the start of large files to copy. You must restart Windows for the USB is working again.
This only occurs when you copy files large files to THE USB port, not on the internal drive. It happened when I synicing my IPhone with Itunes when it started the synchronization of music files.

According to the suggestions I have:
    1) updated the BIOS from the websites of the manufacturers.
    (2) power management disabled on the USB hub for disks
    (3) ensure that the BIOS for Legacy USB is set to.  I don't have this option in the BIOS settings.
    (4) this is not a motherboard problem, it is located on three different MB that we use.
Also tried three different USB drives and different cables.

Because I tested with two different computers updated and USB drives, our opinion is that this problem indicates that the Windows 7 64-bit operating system.

    Someone knows a solution?

  • AC2400 (E8350) router cannot map USB hard drive in Windows network.

    Hi all

I recently bought the Linksys AC2400 wireless router and a USB 3 Western Digital Elements 2 TB hard drive.

The network works perfectly, except for the USB hard drive. The firmware on the router recognizes it okay, but in the windows network, I can't access your hard drive. I simply get a path not found error.

    I tried:

Y access inside or outside Windows Homegroup.

-Re - formatting in the linksys configuration (Fat32... There is room for improvement)

-Test the USB drive directly into the PC, works perfectly and formatted in NTFS.

    -Turn off all firewalls.

-Tried the port USB2/Esata instead of the USB3

Also, from another computer on the network, I get the same error.

Pre-installed on the hard drive was a mediaserver program called Twonky. He wants autoconnet to my router using port 9000, but the web interface I get then does nothing. Also when I enable the mediaserver configuration linksys website, he created a mediaserver in windows network, wth pilots twonk. But I can't change that.

When I test the ftp server, I had access to the hard drive without any problem. This suggests that it is not a compatibility problem.

I could also map the Windows ftp server, but that does not work on my mediaplayer, I need for this network interface.

Does anyone have an idea of what I'm doing wrong and why windows is unable to connect to your hard drive?

I didn't install the new version of firmware, because the changelog mentions nothing about the functions of the USB or storage.

I've added a few photos with the settings, it could be useful.

THX in advance for any response.

  • WRT610N updated firmware, USB hard drive no longer works

    Hi all

Thanks in advance for any help you may have.  I noticed a few people have had this problem, so maybe there is a difficulty.  I updated the firmware to Ver.1.00.02.10 because the release notes, said that it had improved the function USB hard drive.  I've updated the firmware, which is is held reset, pedaled power button, restored my setup, replugged my USB drive & lit.  I am still unable to access the USB drive.  It shows not only upward.

My hard drive is a Maxtor One Touch 750 GB, works perfectly when it is directly attached.  I have 2 PC (one connected via gigabit and either through N), both works very well.

    Any thoughts?

Thank you so much in advance.

    -Tim

When you upgrade the firmware of your router, you must reset your router and reconfigure the settings on it once again, do not restore the Configuration of return still file once on your router. Just reconfigure a fee net settings on your router. That might solve your problem.

  • Is it safe to remove a USB hard drive or flash drive when my PC is suspended?

Suppose that I used my USB hard drive or flash drive.  Now suppose the PC goes to sleep or I deliberately suspended (after which the green light on my hard drive turns off).  Is it now OK to disconnect the device from the USB connection?  Or I have to wake up the PC and go through the procedure of "eject" explicit to remove safely?  You can assume that no files don't care don't is open for output on the disk when the suspension occurs.  (I can't represent some of the things that the OS can be done on a regular basis.)  I could in theory (and unintentionally) open a file media for playback and made a break at a time where the OS hangs.

(I always assumed that, when you go to sleep, the BONE empty buffers and otherwise puts files in safe States, as it would have on explicit 'eject'.)  However, my research on this issue have never turned up an explicit answer, so I've always played it safe.  However, the scenario I describe is common for me, and it would be more convenient if the suspension is that it is safe.  It's a HTPC across the room, so suspend and then unplug is much easier that awaken (possibly), eject, get up, disconnect, go back, suspend and finally go away.  I wonder whenever I'm doing it the "hard".  "I want to know.)

I doubt that the answer depends on the OS; but, if so, please say how it may be different, that I also have a desktop XP machine.

No, put the computer to sleep does not these "flush" or "eject" actions. Files that are open and active are both suspended - that is, to remove all media while the computer sleeps is a risky operation.  You can, for example, to sleep or hibernate a computer in the middle of a software installation, it is clear at this point are activities that could cause more read/write operations once the computer wakes.

  • Cannot see the USB hard drive?

    Hello

I created a new XP Pro VM environment and everything seems great so far, however, one of my devices is an external USB hard drive (this is where lies the VMX file).

Yet I do not see it as a connected device, it is not in the list of devices to be tied down to the machine virtual host?

Why am I unable to see this device USB of the XP Guest VM and how to make it visible?

    Thank you

    1DMF

    1. NOT to assign a USB device to the virtual computer - at least, do NOT attempt to use the disk USB us talk

2 instead of this, make sure that you configure network between the host and guest

    3. create Windows shares on USB drive

    4. access to this sharing of the Interior of the guest

This will result in the host beeing the only system that accesses the USB directly - which is the only safe way to do

  • What type of modem do I need connect my AirPort Extreme to BT infinity

What type of modem do I need connect my AirPort Extreme to BT infinity

The question is not really what kind of modem you need... it is rather one of 'approved' modems which provides the BT will be compatible with the AirPort Extreme.

Unfortunately, the AirPort Extreme and other Apple routers are designed to work with standard DSL and cable type connections.  The fiber is a new ball game, and Apple has not yet learned all the rules for the new game.

Your best bet would be to publish a list of 'approved' BT here modems and then ask other users who might have the same product and an AirPort Extreme about their experience.

You can also just ask BT what product they would recommend to work with the AirPort Extreme.  They tell you that they will not support you if you are using the Apple product, so maybe it's something to consider as well.

  • SanDisk Extreme USB Flash Drive and SMART failure

I just got 3 64 GB SanDisk Extreme USB Flash Drives and all three show SMART failures to reassign bad sectors. I struggle to believe that all three could be bad on first use. I use a program on a Mac (SoftRAID(4)) to certify all drives prior to use, including the SD cards and USB keys. I've never seen a failure so far.

Readers see the successful certification but present a SMART failure.

What is a disk problem or a SMART question or what?

    Thank you

    Lief

I agree that it is unlikely to have failed on the first use. Most likely, it is a problem with the SMART attributes. IIRC sandisk can't CHIP for this product so it formats without error, and data can be copied onto the discs with success, I wouldn't worry too much on this subject.

  • VMHost and USB hard drive?

Is it possible to setup a VMHost to access a USB hard drive? VMHost running ESXi 5.0.

Still not clear as to why you need to do. It may be possible, but I don't think that's how VDP was intended to be used.

Here are the steps you should try:

    • Mount the USB drive to the host and make sure that it is not 'automatically' for use by the VMs.
    • Locate the VMDK with backup files.
    • Determine the size of the VMDK.
    • Determine if there is enough space on the USB drive to the file system.
    • Create a VMFS5 file on the USB system.
    • If the USB and the VMDK are visible both from the vSphere client, copy the VMDK to the USB port.
    • If it is not visible from the customer vShpere, use the tools of command line (vmkfstools, CLI power) to copy or clone the VMDK on the USB.

This seems too real similar work, isn't it?

Given that the amount of disk space available for the device .5TB is 850 GB, it won't probably enough space on a USB drive, if you have been backing up virtual machines for any amount of time.  An SSD or a SATA hard drive would be more likely to have sufficient capacity.

If you succeed to move the files to a USB/SSD/HD, what would be your next step?

If you move the files, wouldn't be simpler to use Storage vMotion?
