Connect to home WiFi

While she was living with a friend, I am trying to connect to his account of fi wi with my laptop.   I can't.

I got the message that it is "a firewall" - that I have disabled the firewall, unless I do this correctly.

I got the message that there is no address IP of HIS computer. ?    He said that he has no special password or whatever it is.

I used the laptop in various other locations and connected properly to the public wi fi.   What I don't know.

You have no problem connecting to wi - fi networks to other places.  Therefore, the security settings or firewall on your router your friend probably are preventing your connection.

A firewall on your own laptop could also cause problems, so please also tell us which firewall you use on your computer.

However, there are a few things you should check on your laptop.
Open Control Panel and double-click on network connections.
Click on wireless network connection, followed by "view wireless networks".
Click "refresh network list.

The list includes wi - fi of your friend network?  If so, the list shows the network as long as (WEP, WPA, or WPA2) security enabled?  If so, get the password to your friend.

In the same menu, click 'change advanced settings '.
On the general tab, select ' Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) "then click Properties
On the next menu, select "obtain an IP address automatically" and "DNS server automatically get an address.
Save your changes.

Then, return to the Menu list refresh network and try to connect to your friend network.  If your friend network is secure, Windows XP will ask you the password to your friend.

If your attempt fails, please describe exactly what is happening.

Your friend must also check the router settings.

I'm surprised that it has "no special password or whatever it is." Are you sure?  He/she should really use (preferably WPA or WPA2) encryption, to prevent access by unauthorized persons.

It must also ensure that the DHCP server is enabled. (DHCP means Dynamic Host Control Protocol).  The DHCP server allocates an IP address, whenever a device (for example your laptop) tries to connect to the network and requires an IP address.

MAC filtering might have been enabled on the router (unlikely, but possible).  Each computer has a unique MAC address (a bit like your car license plate).  If MAC filtering is turned on, your friend must add your portable MAC address to the list of allowed MAC addresses.

This morning, everything was fine but something happened with the printer and now my laptop is all out of whack. I used to be connected to my home network where I could access all computers on the network and my hard drive Western Digital World Book Edition II. I don't know how, but now I'm out of the network. I'm always connected to the WiFi which is available in the House but I can ' t do anything else. I can't watch other computers, print or watch the WD hard drive. I tried everything to get me back on the network, but not luck.

    I am using the following:

    -Linksys Wireless-N Broadband Router (model number - WRT300N v1.1)
    -Canon PIXMA MX870
-Western Digital myBook World Edition II (2 TB)

I did steps 1 to 6, but he says still unknown

    Sorry if I wasn't clear.

1-6 steps enable NetBIOS over TCP/IP, which is a good thing to do.  These measures do not affect the type of node.  As explained in the link nitecruzr, there is a good reason to make this explicit parameter instead of the default Windows.

Reset the 'unknown' to 'Broadcast' node type can be performed by following the steps in KB903267 - but it is I think remember that sometimes the steps described in this article do not work and the type of node is still 'unknown '.  What I meant is that it is OK for the type of node be 'unknown '.

  • 9.2 IOS on iPhone 6 and iPad does connect to home WiFi, works Mac very well!

    Greetings to all!

I have problems with the Wi - fi home my two phones iPhone 6. It is the same for the iPad Mini. At the same time there is no problem with my Mac, my PS4 and my Sony TV. All devices except those using iOS to freely connect to home wi - fi.

I have read several articles and does everything that people suggested to be useful. Not for me, as a matter of fact. There is the list:

    -Reboot of the router

    Reset Wi - fi free

    -Forget the wi - fi

    -Added the "8.8.8.8" DNS manually

    -Switch on the flight mode

-Reboot manual (House + unlock buttons press)

    More details:

-Wi - Fi is visible, iOS devices recognize the network and easily connect to it, however, no of applications connect to the Internet, nothing can be regenerated and downloaded.

-Wi - Fi mode is mixed 11bgn, the channel - channel automatic number - width, automatic.

-Fashionable - WP2 - PSK, security - AES encryption mode.

-J' have a Wi - Fi extender device that uses the same network with SSID different. IOS devices "don't know" this second network.

    Then, the problem... Help, please

Try to temporarily remove the security on the network. The devices work when the network is completely open?

Check to see if there are updates available for the router firmware. There may be a problem of basic compatibility between the router and the iOS devices.

  • Unable to connect to home WiFi

Hello. Using a 2012 MacBook Pro runs El Capitan 10.11.4 and unable to connect to Wi Fi home exclusively. We had to Time Warner to get out. They gave us a new modem/router and update the connections/splitter in the basement. All our devices but my laptop can connect to the network. Our iPhones, light fires and Mac Book of wife anything can connect. The mine detects the network but cannot connect. However, I can connect my computer to other networks through my Verizon Wireless hot spot and even a 4 G LTE Kajeet hotspot unit I borrowed from the library. Any ideas what could be going wrong? I ran Wireless Diagnostics and nothing turns upward. The most frustrating part id my computer "thinks" it is online, because the Wifi symbol is obscured. But I'm not connected.

    Thank you.

Routers "dual-band" can use one or two channels to send a signal to your devices.  If you have not a double router broadband, then it is most likely using the 2.4 Ghz frequency band.  I guess that no one has brought any internal changes to your router recently.

  • How do install on my PC at home that uses Windows XP SP3 to connect to the WiFi 802.11 g/n wireless driver?

Hi, I desperately need help to connect my PC at home that runs on Windows XP SP3 to my Wifi network. Currently my laptop (Windows 8) and the tablet of my wife are connected to the WIFI network but cannot connect the desktop home PC. Did some research and discovered that the driver wireless 802.11 g/n is missing from the network adapter in the Device Manager. I suspect that this as being the cause of the non-connectivite but how do I download and install this driver wireless to the computer?

Can you please provide me with the simple steps to follow for installing this driver wireless 802.11 g?

    Robin,

It's the support page from Dell for your computer--> http://www.dell.com/support/my-support/us/en/04/product-support/servicetag/JHDFR1S/config?s=BIZ

As near as I know, your Optiplex was conducted in Australia.  If you are indeed in Australia (and you probably, if you have a modem/router of Telstra), I have no information on what products could be made available to you or where you could buy them.

My personal preference would be an adapter that includes a cable for the antenna is not positioned between the back of your computer and the wall.  However, if your computer will be less a few meters from the router, there is not much difference, and you can use an adapter that looks like a USB key (or smaller).  My guess is that all of the products on this page might work for you--> http://www.mwave.com.au/networking-wireless/adapters-addon-cards-wireless?view=40&pricerangeid=1&filter=383%3Dusb&filteroptions=383%3Dinterface that the correct driver should be included on a CD supplied with the appliance.

  • laptop is no longer connects to the wifi at home

Computer Dell laptop for my son will connect is no longer our home wifi. It's just less than a year and work very well so that there is one month. Other devices (other laptop Windows 7, Windows 8 Wallpapers xbox) connect without problems. It is a Dell Inspiron N7110 under Windows 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1. The laptop detects the network and said that the signal strength is 'good' or 'excellent', yet he seems stuck in the login process, cycling between saying 'sign in' and 'limited access' next to the network name.  At the top of the login window, it says currently connected to: identification... (network name)  not followed by any network access.  I tried running the convenience store and reset the network card, but this has not solved the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • BlackBerry smartphones could not connect to the WiFi system at home - "unable to get an IP address.

Like many of you, I have WiFi connection problems with my new BB9700.

When I'm out of the House, I can see my BB, find local WiFI hotspots and I can connect to them immediately.

However, when I get home, my BB doesn't connect to my WiFi, return the following error message:

    Unable to connect

Reason: Could not obtain an IP address

I downloaded the latest version of the software BB (now running version 5.0.0.351), cold all started in view (router, telephone, coffee table and the cat) but still the same error. My foot pain, the cat is not about me and I still can't connect to the House! Of course, my carrier connection works perfectly like their outrageous fees structure... (They are 3G or Hutchinson Telecom under a different name).

My WiFi access provider (PCCW / HK Netvigator) checked my system configuration and report that everything works correctly. I can connect my PS3, my laptop, my Nokia E71 without any problem and the guy from the hotline can see when I connect each of them to the system.

I tried different combinations of switching the usual options on and off on the BB but always get a connection.

SO, any of you kind of people you have a solution other than the cat suddenly once again?

    Thanks in advance,

    RS. HK.

    Step 3.

    BlackBerry Bold 9700

Delete the profile of my WiFi at home in the WiFi Options

    Step 4.

    BlackBerry Bold 9700

Reentry into the profile of my WiFi at home in WiFi Configuration

WiFi in the House. SUCCESS AT LAST!

    Step 5.

    BlackBerry Bold 9700

In manage connections, unchecked Mobile Network (i.e. Off and No Way can connect to my 3G service provider)

    Step 6.

Turn off the Blackberry Bold 9700.

    Battery pull.

    Restart the Blackberry Bold 9700.

The House immediately found of WiFi Internet and all other functions working perfectly.

Only problem is now my home network is unsecured. (Can't get the IP address if WEP security is enabled)

So it's all good now and forward it to someone else who has the same problem.

    Happy Chinese new year!
