connection ethernet Mac mini

My Mac Mini (latest model 2014) suddenly stopped to connect to my network home yesterday. I can still connect wirelessly, but not via the ethernet cable.

I tried to connect the Mac Mini to different ethernet ports, without passing through routers and switches and using different cables. But it doesn't go anywhere.

Other computers (Windows) to connect very well to all ethernet ports.

Can someone tell me how I can determine if this is a hardware problem or a software problem?

In Network preferences, he says just "Cable Disconnected".

Thank you
Ian

    Hi readingteacher,.

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple. I understand that you want to use your older iMac as a display of your Mac Mini. I am pleased to provide you with some information about this process.

This article has some good information on what is needed to turn your iMac in a view:

Use your iMac as a display with the target Display Mode

As you can see, it takes an iMac compatible with 10.6.1 or later. Since your iMac seems to be a G5 with 10.4.8, I'm afraid that it is not compatible with this feature.

I hope this helps clear of the things up. See you soon!

You should be able to, given the Mac Mini has the correct connections (in this case, a Thunderbolt connection).

  • Is it possible to connect my Mac mini to my Mac Pro laptop using the memory on my mac mini for installing software Ableton as I don't have 3 GB available on my Mac Pro.

Is it possible to connect my Mac mini to my Mac Pro laptop using the memory on my mac mini for installing software Ableton as I don't have 3 GB available on my Mac Pro.

I want to download Ableton software, but it requires 3 GB of free memory that I have available on my MacPro laptop not because most of it is used for my library of music because I'm a DJ.

I'm not sure how I can do it or not at all.

    Thank you very much.

    1. a Mac Pro is not a laptop. Its a big desktop computer.  You probably have a MacBook Pro, which is a laptop.

    2. No, you cannot share the memory (live RAM) or storage (disk space, which is not memory) like that between computers.

However, it is very very bad practice to have so little storage space available for your computer.   If you have less than 3 GB, you should seriously consider an external drive. and unload some files on the outside. Its best not to leave your hard drive to go below 10 GB of free space because it can seriously affect your computer's performance.

    Hello

If you talk to connect 2 machines by HDMI, which suggests that they are close together.  This virtual private network and Remote Desktop Protocol should work quite satisfactory on an ethernet cable.

For example, a SERVER, or a RASPBERRY PI device can be used without a screen, the mouse or the keyboard at all and they run HEADLESS, is the operating system, applications & other software is running and the reorientation of screen output to another machine.

So maybe something I found below can help...

    #######################################

The server is running headless (No monitor, keyboard or mouse). To control it, I use my Mac Book Pro screen sharing. The two are connected to my local network via Gigabit cable/switch.

    ##################################################################

    http://forums.MacRumors.com/threads/headless-Mini-Setup.1209971/

I wouldn't file vault on a machine, that I wanted to act like a small office or home a network file server.

OS X is based on Unix, which means network and services are running "before the GUI is in place". It can run headless, who connected person and you can store files to the thing to your heart's content. From Lion, you can connect remotely to the screen sharing and use your account on a remote computer, rather that on 'look on the shoulder of the current user' which could be pretty useless at times. Apple Remote Desktop used to have a "Curtain" mode allowing you to block the user to see anything (or using the computer) then you did the admin stuff. Even the children don't want to deal with this kind of inconvenience. Starting with Leopard you can connect and do admin stuff as an administrator, even if a non admin user works far not having doesn't need to know you are there.

I do not recommend autologin for a machine without a head. There is no reason someone connects to network to work services.

Here are the steps I would take to put in place a mini "headless":

1 - create the initial admin account
    2. create accounts for each user that I want to store files on the machine
    3 activate the split screen
4 turn the sharing of printer files and (optionally)
    5. in saving settings, select "auto restart after power failure.
    6. Optionally: install crashplan on the mini (and run it to the virtual machine JAVA is installed) If you want users to be able to go back to the mini using crashplan
    7. Optionally: install a huge drive firewire or usb if you want users to be able to go back to the mini.

    Fact.

On client computers, add folder of each user on the Mini as part of login and it will be mounted and will appear on the desktop whenever they connect to their Mac.
Optionally, you can use crashplan to back up on the Mini. This feature is included free of charge and requires no subscription.

I think safe would work for every user files, but I've not tried it myself.

  • Use iCloud ID to connect on Mac

I use my Apple ID to connect my Mac Mini at startup. However, my MacBook Pro does not offer me the possibility to use my iCloud ID to open a session. When I try to change my password, system preferences = > users and groups = > change password gives me only the same old options, no option to iCloud. Both computers are running up-to-date El Capitan. Any ideas?

This feature has been removed in an update to El Capitan. What I read, if you had put in place before the update, you can continue to use it. If it was't put in place, it is no longer an option.

  • Mac-mini - Denon AVR-1910 - Samsung HDTV HDMI

    Hello

I have mi Mac mini connected via HDMI for the Denon AVR 1910 port. My HDTV (Samsung le37b530p7w) is also connected to the HDMI.

The very annoying problem I have is that images and sounds "flicker" (go offshore and on) constantly.

When that happens, I see HDMI, PCM, DTS indicator on the Denon going on and off like the Mac Mini and the Denon were synchronization/handshake. The TV picture go on and outside, and it shows as "searching for signal".

I tried to connect the mac mini directly to HDTV, the flickering thing has not happened.

I can't find my TV box or drive DVD/BR.

I tried all the HDMI ports on the TV and the Denon AVR. It always happens and occurs only when the mac mini shows something.

However, when I listen to music on the mac mini, but the TV is turned off (no picture on the TV, but the sound goes through the Denon AVR), flickering does not occur.

I've read similar questions on the forum, but no real solution.

    Any help?

    Details of the material:

Mac mini: end 2012, OSX El Capitan 10.11.4

    DENON AVR 1910

    Samsung HDTV le37b530p7w

unless denon has a update of firmware for their APR I would say that the best bet would be to connect the mac to the tv and connect the TV to the denon

  • Mac Mini - no Ethernet Interface

    Hello

I have the Mac Mini 2011 model, and I've been using an Ethernet for some time, have not had any problems, connection worked perfectly until now. First of all, there is no internet connection, so I have just connected to wifi for a bit, then I went into System Preferences - network, where more ethernet it indicated "cable disconnected" even if the cable is connected. I checked that the cable is not the issue, work on other devices. So I have that if I just remove the ethernet interface with - button, and then add it again with the + button that would solve the problem. However, now ethernet interface does not even upward in option:

I'm currently under OS X El Capitan 10.11.3.

Please help resolve this annoying problem, because the ethernet port is the key for the speeds for me.

    Thanks in advance!
