Controllers SCSI for PowerVault MD3000

I connected a MD3000 storage server Poweredge 6850 by using 2 Perc 5/e adapted, but when trying to install Storage Manager, it checks the configuration and the SAA claims 5/e device for the connection... is to operate the MD3000 using Perc 5/e controller in place os SAS 5/e anyway?

Kind regards

Usually, you take NIC 1 gb connections available on your host and configure them as such.

2 network cards go to the San, most of the time that it is actually two networks with different subnets.

    1 network card next LAN

1 network card for the management

We only use three network cards currently on our guests, 2 for San and the other for management and lan. We use two switches dedicated to dedicated networks dual iSCSI san. This allows to easily add additional hosts in the future.

You get to decide a bit, but the double san network is pretty much a given. You can do all this of course with the VLANs as well. We use the switches unmanaged yet in our Organization.

PS: Passing path recommended is to have completely isolated storage of the LAN network / network of the user.

  • Need driver for PowerVault 110 t (LTO-3) for Windows Server 2008 R2

I just installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on my server PowerEdge 2900.  I have a PowerVault 110 t (we also say Ultrium LTO 3 on the front) I want to use with Symantec Backup Exec 2010.  However, Backup Exec is not the tape drive.  Do I need a driver for the tape drive?  If Yes, where can I find this driver.  I can only find a driver for Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2003 x 64 on the Dell driver downloads this unit (Service Tag deleted by the moderator).  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Never mind.  After change of SCSI ID 6, connect the player to the other SCSI port, and restart the server, the drive is detected by Backup Exec.  "Problem" is solved.

  • PowerVault MD3000 to swap MD1000 controller card possible?

    Hi all

We have a few MD3000s end of LIFE that we want to reuse for other purposes. Is it possible to simply replace the MD3000 with ones MD1000 controller card and assign a MD1000 essentially? The reason why we must do, it is because we can buy the slower red Western Digital disks that will work for our needs and with the MD3000 we are locked into buying Dell brand readers. I understand that we need a perc 5 or 6 card as well.

    Thanks for the help

Sorry for the delay, the JT517 is the most recent part number. These are the same just part the JT517 is a more recent reference number and it was used to replace HN240.

I used the script below to add disks to several virtual machines

But currently our requirement for change as if we must add 3 2 GB drives, the disks must the controller use SCSI (1:0) - (1:2)

And next bunch of disks, for example, should use use SCSI (2:0) - (2:2).

  • How to find default VMware drivers SCSI for XP?

After the upgrade to Fusion 5 I get this message when you start Windows XP:

«Windows XP does not include the drivers for the card SCSI BusLogic VMware Fusion uses virtual SCSI devices.»

To use these virtual SCSI devices, install the VMware driver in the virtual machine. Download the driver from "http://vmware.com/info?id=43". " "

(Is also happened after upgrading Fusion 4, but never resolved it then either. Buy a Windows machine to do my taxes last year).

The referenced link does not point to SCSI drivers, at least not directly, but to all downloads.

I tried one was downloaded as a floppy, vmscsi - 1.2.0.4.flp. (Site downloads and knowledge base are offline now, so can't give you the precise link used to download it.)

After mounting the floppy drive and pointing to it after asking XP to update its SCSI driver, then by restarting the guest, I always get the message of needing a BusLogic driver and the guest is really slow.

Is this the right site to download VmWare SCSI driver?

Also, I found an article in the knowledge base on switch between free and BusLogic, editing the .vmx file (called, ""changing the type of SCSI controller used on a Fusion VM ""), but this did not help.

I followed the advice given here of the virtual hardware upgrade.

I try to use the appropriate SCSI driver?

Is there a reason to continue to use the SCSI, or that the only option?

Add the following to the configuration of the Virtual Machine's .vmx file.

    buslogic.nodriver = "FALSE"

Take a look at: changing the file .vmx for your VM of Fusion (1014782)

Note the link above may give a time-out of the bridge as it seems that VMware has problems at the moment.

If you want the driver to take a look at:/Applications/VMware Fusion.app/Contents/Resources/vmscsi.flp

Or download VMware SCSI Driver Disk

  • Microsoft sideWinder force feedback 2 game controllers driver for Windows 8

Original title: Joystick Microsoft SideWinder Force Feedback 2 8 victory Flight

I have recently upgraded to windows 8 and now need drivers for my MS sidewinder force joystick feedback 2 use my FSX flight sim. Anyone know where to find the drivers?

I recently bought Microsoft Flight Sim X on stream. I've performed under a victory 8.1 HP laptop. I am lucky to have a Microsoft sidewinder force joystick feedback 2 which was a purchase of second hand many years ago.

When I connect it via USB the software automatically recognized and installed the driver suitable for the start and reports in devices like a sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick.

Initially using the properties and the calibration does not register any input the joystick game, but as the result of a reboot or run the program MS Flight Sim X everything works perfectly.

Calibration running confirms all the buttons and wheel and look at a hat all them light up and work 100%!

For reference, I am on windows 8.1 and have the auto update on.

So in summary, you should find that you need not track down the drivers and plug and play works, simply because of my experience.

I'm looking for a way to get the information of scsci for a data store if the name of the data store is known. • Creating additional domain controllers 2003 for testing in a sandbox environment

    Hello

We run many production servers in a windows 2003 environment.

To test future applications and internal development, we plan to create a test environment of sandbox for our production environment.

I read that conversion existing DC directly is problematic, what happens if we

-created additional servers in the virtual machine,

-dcpromo + synchronization the new servers with the production of DC

    -Finally the sandboxing them?

There will be issues when the new domain controller is not accessible by the PDC? These DCs in sandbox will be fully functional?

    Appreciate any feedback.

    See you soon

    RAMM

    Hi Ramm,

    Welcome to the forums.

It is a best practice to not virtualize a domain controller. It is better to create a new server and promote a domain controller.

You can divide your domain name and create a replica of lab but you always have to take care of is not to reconnect this isolated domain in production to avoid conflicts.

These are the steps to split a domain:

-create a virtual Windows machine with the same version and SP as production

    -promote a domain controller

-Once the replication completed, isolate it from the network

-in the field of production, remove data from active directory to the remote server

-on the remote server, enter the FSMO roles, DNS and DHCP functionality

I turned off a two different virtual machines to try to change the path and had an error with a certain delay - I stuck this error below. I also tried to redistribute virtual disks tab the MDSM software nothing works support.

By reading, it seems that the LUN should be attributed to a particular raid controller before all I / 0, but I still feel like're missing us something as to why we cannot distribute the traffic properly.

    Hello MrRedPants,

Since you are using a configuration not redundant you will have problems trying to modify the paths between the controllers since the two hosts have only a single connection to the MD3000.  What you could do if possible is to get 2 more SAS cables & connect ports second on the MD to RAID opposite that the host is currently connected to.

Now, if this isn't an option so that you can make is to have 2 disk groups and assign the virtual disks / LUNS that are connected to each host in their own disk group.  If you go to each host their own groups of disks, then you will need to stop the e/s as you move the Ramdisk to the new group of disks so that you want to discard any data loss.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • Join a new MD1000 to an MD3000 existing query

I'm as confused as if I connect our new MD1000 to our exisiting MD3000 in unified mode or in shared mode. Our existing MD3000 has 2 controllers host at the back of the it. Our new MD1000 has a primary EMM and a secondary EMM. What I can do I connect the MD3000 the MD1000 in shared Mode by running a cable from the "in" on the primary EMM in the MD1000 to the available port in the first controller on the MD3000 host (slot 0) then by running a second cable from the 'in' on the secondary EMM in the MD1000 to the available port on the second controller on the MD3000 host (slot 1).

Can you confirm that the above is what I have to do?

Also looking at the requirements for adding the MD1000 it is mentioned that I need to have the following:

"Developing an existing Md3000 with a new Md1000 chassis system".
Follow these steps to fix a new MD1000 to an MD3000 existing extension
    attachment.
NOTICE: The mode dial must be in the position of the mode "Uni" for the MD1000 chassis to function
    with the MD3000 chassis.
1 on the MD3000 chassis, upgrade the controller to A01 or later software.
2 on the host servers and the MD3000 system, follow these steps (in order) to upgrade
    components:
an upgrade of the SAS 5/E driver and firmware. For Windows hosts, use the update package.
For Linux hosts, use the DKMS package.
b upgrade the Modular Disk Storage Manager on each host server. (The latest version is available
from the support.dell.com site.) Refer to the Installation Guide of PowerVault MD3000 for further
    information.
c upgrade pilots multichannel on each host server. Paths multiple drivers are provided with the
Modular disk (MD) Storage Manager installation package.
On Windows hosts, the drivers are installed automatically when you install MD Storage Manager
in Full mode or host. On Linux hosts, you must install Multipath drivers manually.
NOTICE: If you are prompted, restart the host servers during the upgrade process.
3 once all components have been upgraded, to stop one or more hosts, then shut down the MD3000
    attachment.
4 attach the MD1000 expansion on the MD3000 chassis, following the steps in the
Dell PowerVault Compatibility Matrix (available from support.dell.com site). »

Is there documentation that explains how to perform updates to the firmware on the MD3000 and the MD1000? Thank you.

    Doug

The minimum to connect to a MD3000 is A03 and A04 later and came out for about 3 years now, so if you bought your speaker this year, it came with A04 already and the MD1000 itself should not need upgrades (drives in the MD1000 is another story, but you can not determine their firmware until you connect it to the MD3000).

  • Sheet music shows is not on PowerVault 220 s after the Crash of the OS

    Hi all!

    Here's my situation:

I have a PE2550 with two controllers Perc3/DC. A Perc is configured for 5 on-board hard drives, the other on the Powervault s w 220 / 12 disks (7 on Channel 4 on channel 1, 0). Crashed by the operating system (Windows 2 K - what a surprise) and it is unrecoverable. We have decided to rebuild the operating system on the 5 on-board hard drives. Initially embedded readers have been implemented in Raid-0 (don't ask--I don't know why). We decided to reconfigure with Raid-5 and install Windows 2K 3. During the process, we have removed the SCSI cables that linked the Powervault, so we would not accidentally delete any data while we reconfigured the Perc for drives shipped to Raid-5.
Embedded readers have been setup with Raid-5 and Win2k3 has been installed successfully.
We then reattached the cables SCSI of PowerVault back to the PE2550. Rather than see our data, we see nothing. Search in Windows disk management all we saw were two large capacity disks that were "not allocated". We have tried to assign a drive letter to them, but in both cases he asked us to format the disc - which we don't have.

Someone at - he a has any ideas on how to move forward--and the case and that we were wrong, so that we don't make the same mistake again? !!

  • You have a computer with at least two hearts 5.5 ESXi host.
  • The NX/XD bit is set for the CPU in the BIOS.
  • Your processor is supported. ESXi supports a wide range of x 64 of multicore. For a complete list of taken processors supported,
  • You have 4 GB of RAM. This is the minimum required to install ESXi 5.5. Provide at least 8 GB of RAM to take full advantage of the features of ESXi and run virtual machines in typical production environments.
  • Support for hardware virtualization (Intel VT - x or AMD RVI) is enabled on x 64 CPU (to support 64-bit virtual machines). For a complete list of operating systems that are supported with ESXi, hosts running virtual machines with 64-bit operating systems have these hardware requirements:
    • For AMD Opteron systems, processors must be Opteron Rev E or later.
    • For Intel Xeon systems, processors must include support for Intel Virtualization Technology (VT). Many servers which may include processors with VT support VT disabled by default, so you have to manually enable VT. If your CPU support VT, but you do not see this option in the BIOS, contact your provider to request a version of BIOS that allows to enable VT support.

Note: to determine if your server has 64-bit VMware support, download The utility of Identification of CPU on the VMware site.

  • You have one or more Gigabit or 10 GB Ethernet controllers. For a list of network adapter models supported, refer to the VMware Compatibility Guide.
  • You with any combination of one or more storage controllers are:
    • Basic SCSI controllers. Adaptec Ultra-160 or Ultra-320, LSI Logic Fusion-MPT and most NCR/Symbios SCSI.
    • RAID controllers. Reference Dell PERC (Adaptec RAID and LSI MegaRAID) RAID HP Smart Array or IBM ServeRAID controllers (Adaptec).
  • You have a SCSI drive or a local, off-grid, RAID LUN with unpartitioned for VMS space.
  • For Serial ATA (SATA), a drive connected through taken SAS controllers supported or supported integrated SATA controllers. SATA drives are supposed to be remote, no premises. These discs are not used as a partition to scrape by default because they are too far away.

Note: you cannot connect a SATA CD-ROM device to a virtual machine on a host ESXi 5.5. To use the SATA CD-ROM device, you must use the IDE emulation mode.

  • You use a supported storage system. ESXi 5.5 supports the installation and start-up of these storage systems:
    • SATA drives. SATA drives connected behind the SAS controllers supported or SATA controllers support built-in.

      • LSI1068E (LSISAS3442E)
      • LSI1068 (SAS 5)
      • IBM ServeRAID 8K SAS controller
      • Smart Array P400/256 controller
      • 5.0.1 Dell PERC controller
    • SATA drives. Support SATA edge include:
      • Intel ICH9
      • NVIDIA MCP55
      • ServerWorks HT1000

Note: ESXi does not support using SATA internal disks local to the host server to create VMFS stores of data that is shared between multiple ESXi hosts.

  • You have disks Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) supported for ESXi 5.5 installation and to store virtual machines in VMFS partitions.
  • You have dedicated disk SAN Fibre Channel or iSCSI.
  • You have USB devices supported for ESXi installation.
  • You can install and start ESXi a FCoE LUN using VMware software FCoE adapters and network with FCoE adapters discharge capacity
  • . See the documentation for storage for more information about installing and initializing ESXi with vSphere FCoE software.
